Thought I reviewed it on our first visit but can't find my review so here we go... It's our second visit to Kungfu Ramen so trying something different. Got the braised beef ramen plus Mongolian chicken and xiao long bao for a new and very tasty adventure! Beef was nice and tender and the ramen soup with hand pulled original noodles was wonderfully savory with a tiny little kick and nice bouncy noodles too! The soup dumplings were nice and packed with flavor and the accompanying dipping sauce was nice. My friend was smiling ear to ear while eating their Mongolian chicken. We also ordered a stir fried rice noodle chicken to go (may have been a mix up and got regular noodles instead of rice noodles) which unfortunately am told was just ok. The dining room is clean and service is fast. Food is nice and hot so it was perfectly timed and just what we needed! It's nice to know the noodles are made fresh in house so you can order the type of noodles you want. Ramen Fact: The word "ramen" may have come from the Chinese word "lamian," a type of Chinese noodle. With that said, don't come here thinking you're getting Japanese ramen. This is very much a Chinese noodle shop. Once you get that cleared up and in your head that you won't be inhaling Japanese ramen like Naruto, you will enjoy yourself! Our party of five got a wide variety of food to eat. Spicy Cucumber Salad, Scallion Pancake, Meat in Bun, and Xiao Long Baos were shared. For my main dish, I got the Sauce Mixed Noodles with lamb and chive noodles (although it didn't taste like chives to me). Everything was pretty good. Their spicy cucumber salad was standard and satisfying. It's no Michelin Star but it was still satisfying.The scallion pancake and meat in bun was nothing spectacular either but still very delicious. It was fast and friendly, so nothing to worry about there. Of course, arriving right at "opening" time helps! ;) There's much more than just ramen on the menu. Since they offered Dim Sum, I asked if they offered Shumai. Sadly, they didn't. The Xiao Long Bao (XLB) was made with beef. Came in with a friend who was craving ramen nearby. We Yelped and this place showed up. Super chill with the staff being attentive and friendly. They spend time talking to you and making you feel at home. The food itself is tasty, had got a ramen which was yummy. I'd g definitely go again and try the other items on the menu. We would have never found this place if it weren't for some word of mouth. As others have stated, don't let the name fool you. It's not a Japanese ramen place! It should be "lamian," which is the Chinese word for noodles. You will only find Chinese staple dishes here (not American Chinese takeout style). The restaurant is super clean and the staff are gentle and kind. I appreciated how one employee helped me package our leftovers :) Portions are HUGE! One dish could easily become 2-3 meals for a single person. I ordered the Chicken Stir-fried Noodles with the default thickness of noodles. The flavor was good, but way too salty for me. Noodle texture was fine. It was also a bit greasy. My partner got the Lanzhou Noodles with thin noodles. I really enjoyed his dish. The seasoning was just right (still a touch too salty for me, but I am more salt sensitive). I kept asking for more spoonfuls of his broth. Something that I don't mind, but my partner does: the dish does mostly come with fattier and collagen heavy pieces of meat. We think Kungfu Ramen excels more with their noodle soups, so we plan on coming back to try their other noodle soup dishes and appetizers. I decided to bring the family here while they were visiting since this place was decent when I visited last. (over a year ago) The quality of the food has drastically changed. We ordered a variety of soup types and they all tasted the same. While I do appreciate the homemade hand pulled noodles - they were too soggy in the broth. The buns and baos were too salty and the scallion pancakes were bland. I understand scallion pancakes are usually more aromatic than savory but it lacked both in this case. They had no cucumber salad available. We also ordered the general tso's chicken which was inedible and tasted very chemically. The waitress who served us had a bad attitude. They still have an open floor seating concept, but with plenty of open tables, they still sat us next to the restrooms. Overall, the experience here felt unorganized and the service was a bit aloof. They are understaff, but who isn't during these times. We order the soup dumplings (xiao long bun), char siu buns, and sauce noodles with lamb. The soup dumplings were delicious and had a good amount of soup inside. They are hot so be careful putting the whole thing in your mouth so soon. The char siu buns were warm and fluffy. We came here for lunch before our theatre matinee show on this side of town. It was highly recommended by many so we wanted to check it out. It's in a typical street mall and a pretty basic restaurant inside. The staff was very attentive and greeted us right away. We ordered the BBQ pork buns and scallion pancakes. We both had the house noodles with braised beef brisket. I was also looking at the soup dumplings but decided not to order since it would have been too much food for us. The appetizers were perfect. The pork buns were sizable and the breading was fluffy. I loved the fresh scallion pancakes. We scarfed those down. We really loved the fresh hand-pulled noodles. I love that you can choose which thickness of noodle you want. The broth was full of flavor. The portion of soup was huge and we both took half home. We could have easily shared a bowl for the two of us considering we had appetizers. I am a spice wimp so be sure to ask about the heat in the dishes. This place had been on my radar ever since they replaced the old Malaysian restaurant. However, I kept putting off trying it for one reason or another until someone told me they offered fresh hand pulled noodles and knife cut noodles here. I absolutely LOVE both types of noodles (wide) and since the Valley doesn't have many places that offer these types of noodles as options, I knew I had to try them out ASAP! We went during lunch time on a Monday, they weren't very busy at the time, and we were immediately seated and asked for our drink order promptly right after. After looking over the menu, we decided to order the flavored bean curd roll salad, scallion pancake, meat in bun (pork), steamed pork buns, and the signature noodle soup with beef (with knife cut wide noodles). The flavored bean curd roll salad was delightfully refreshing, you can never go wrong with a cold dish that has sesame oil! The only downside was that the bean curd at the bottom of the dish tasted overly salty, but not too big of a deal, just shake it off a little. The scallion pancake was bland compared to other ones I've tried before, but the person I went with enjoyed them. The meat in bun (pork) was not what we had initially expected, we thought the bun part was going to be different, and I was skeptical after seeing it, but we ended up really liking it! The meat and the veggies had a nice balance of spices and salt to go along with the bun. The steamed pork buns is a classic dish that one can never go wrong with. A bonus is that the skin wasn't too thick either. The signature noodle soup with beef (with knife cut wide noodles), was my favorite dish of the whole meal hands down! The broth had a nice subtle aroma of spices, suitable for anyone since it can be adjusted accordingly to one's taste buds with the help of the provided vinegar and chili sauces at the table. The beef was super tender, and the noodles had a nice bounce and chew to them, as they should. The portion for the noodle soup was also generous. Other positives: -The service was fast, friendly, and attentive. They were able to answer all the questions we had about several dishes, which helped us narrow down what to order. -The portion sizes ranged between appropriate to generous for the prices. The dishes are typically grouped items you would expect to find in an authentic chinese restaurant. Especially nice is the extensive list of soups, which again feature excellent noodles. The prices are reasonable, and the portion sizes are substantial. You will not feel hungry leaving this place. The dining area is spacious and open. The staff is kind, fast, and efficient. I arrived late in the evening and was still treated and served well, though it was at the end of the evening. The staff was gracious and explained their dishes, and served the food hot (I mean hot!) and fresh to the table. They added in huge hunks of fresh red tomato. Nice! The bad; soup base like bath water. Warm and flavorless. On the up side, the lack of seasoning helps elevate the chick peas, beef, and noodle texture (which I loved). The down side was the lack of depth. It's like adding salt to hot water. You only get salt water, not a salty broth. The killer for me was the heavy hand on the cilantro, parsley, and onion. After seeing so many delicious looking photos of their noodles I knew I had to try some for a family dinner. Ordering was easy online and my items were ready and waiting for me when I got to the restaurant. The packaging was very secure. On the trip back home nothing spilled out or toppled over. I ordered the cucumber salad, beef brisket noodles with sauce, and pork steamed dumplings. Out of the three the dumplings were my favorite, as was the toddler's favorite too! The filling was tender, juicy and well seasoned, and the dumpling dough was a great consistency. The cucumbers weren't too spicy for me, but were a bit too salty in some bites. I did enjoy the overall refreshing quality of them though. While I enjoyed the handmade noodles in the beef brisket dish, I wasn't a fan of the sauce. It skewed a bit too sweet for me. I liked all the various veggies in it though and there were plenty of tender brisket chunks in the dish. This location actually used to be where BP Street Cafe was before they went out of business. With Old Town Taste and Duplex boba shop next door, perhaps this will become the new hotspot for great Chinese style eats! We tried Kung Fu last night and were so impressed. We got the pepper beef with noodles, cumin lamb with noodles and tomato&egg with noodles as our mains. We also tried the veggie egg rolls, cucumber salad, and woodear mushroom salad. We absolutely loved everything. The egg rolls were delicious. Each of the salads had a uniquely delicious vinegary dressing. Our meals were also delicious with large portions that we ended up taking home. The signature soup really didn't have much taste for being called "signature ". I opted for the regular noodles and the chicken. I wouldn't get it again, although the noodles were nice and fresh with good texture. The Mongolian beef was quite overly onioned. And really not my favorite attempt at the dish. I love how you can change the noodle width. The braised noodle soup is my go-to and the brisket is always so tender. You could inject the broth straight into my veins and I think it would make me a superior human being. Service is typical and very quick. I had seen a post on a local group about how this restaurant is the last to offer fresh hand-pulled noodles. That might sound like not the biggest deal to the average foodie but for those that enjoy some great Szechuan-style cuisine, it makes dishes that much better. The only negative in my book is the menu can be a little confusing with what dishes come with rice and which are stir fry. That negative can be easily remedied with a quick question to the server. My wife and I got two dishes to split, the Mongolian beef and a beef stir fry with wide noodles. The Mongolian beef was of course delicious but the stir fry with the wide noodles was out of this world. Flavor across the board and such a great bite on the noodles. We did also get a pork dumpling appetizer which we were impressed with. We typically don't stray from our usual dumpling spot that is pretty close to here but weren't disappointed. If you're a foodie I would add this place to your list of must-tries in the Phoenix area. read more
