Spicy Miso Ramen with corn and extra pork belly
    Grace K.

As a visitor from the east coast nyc/philly area, this is the best ramen I've ever had, and most customizable with sides. I got the Spicy Miso with creamier broth, extra corn and pork belly. The pork belly is clearly freshly made and delicious. The egg was amazing. The broth, delicious and flavorful. I'm not always impressed by ramen places, but Tampopo was truly delicious. The fried chicken was amazing as well. The plum wine was the real deal. Highly recommend trying this place out!

First time takoyaki = last time takoyaki. As far as I'm concerned, DeAngelo Vickers can juggle these ball to his heart's content

Something's changed. The fresh-made noodles I remember have been replaced with pre-made ones that are kinda a sticky mess. Maybe I just came on an off day, but expectations were not met. And I decided to try the curry broth. The bowl of noodles with a ladle of stew was a surprise. Poor choice on my part. I thought it was going to be more of a soup broth, not a thick stew. Wasn't a fan of the takoyaki or the potato/corn croquettes either. Will return later to see if the noodle thing was a fluke or not

Little Japanese eatery specializing in ramen with housemade noodles, dumplings & pork buns. It is cute, small, and cozy. It good there are only two of us. We got the end spots on the long table in the middle. It was nice! We were greeted immediately. It helps that my friend is a regular! I got the Tori Karage, Yaki Gyoza, and Miso Ramen. Our appetizers came out very quickly and they were delicious. Then our ramen came out. Yes, please! It was very tasty, steaming HOT, and so good. The service was great too!

Decent Ramen experience in Tempe. I like the spicy and sour favor, and seems they are not in any take out platforms. The space is a bit small but I am totally fine with that.

Was brought here by a friend and it was almost full! Nice and clean atmosphere and the workers there are very nice! Food tasted good and they have a lot of deserts I've never heard of before so it was nice exposure! Would go again for sure.

The place was smaller but fit a lot of people. They were busy and cleared us a table within 5 min. Around 7-8pm on a Tuesday. Bathrooms were clean and they had awards posted for best ramen in PHX. Staff were attentive and answered any questions from the menu. Pomegranate sake was nice and hot. Curry was delicious although the curry was over powering the white rice ratio imo. But flavor was delicious. Miso ramen was so good and the egg was perfectly soft. They have free refills for broth which was good because the ingredients were a little cold served but once you dug in it warmed up. Broth was flavorful. Gyozas were perfectly crispy and a little doughy. DESSERT? Red Bean was so divine especially with the green tea ice cream paired. A combo I didn't know I needed. We were going to try mochi but I'm glad we picked that Tayaki and I would get it next time too. Would definitely go again and try the Karaage & Takoyaki with the Tonkotsu Ramen

This is our go-to ramen place in Arizona! I always get the tonkotsu ($13) which tastes so clean and good. Also they have half boiled ramen eggs which are my faveee. We weren't really fans of the spicy miso here, but the shio is good as well. We also love the bowls, like the chashu bowl, and usually get it to-go. The takoyaki is a must too! The service is fast, and the store is usually busy but we never have to wait. Plenty of parking in the lot.

Great service, a little warm in the restaurant to sit and eat. The tofu was really good, perfectly fried, and had a great sauce with it, and strips of crispy seaweed make a nice touch. It's nice to be able to see the kitchen. Easy location to get to and plenty of parking.

The name of the game here is consistency. Tampopo is not the BEST bowl of ramen I've ever had, but I've also never had a bad experience here. Staff is pleasant, quick, and the ambiance of the restaurant feels very homey and intimate. I always see people stop by, eat quickly, and head out. I would love to see their tonkotsu be a little more flavorful and have some more texture to it. Their chashu is great - fatty, warm, melts in your mouth. The soy marinated eggs are always perfectly cooked. I have great memories here, and will continue to come back when I am in need of some comfort. I'll probably try the spicy miso as I've heard that's their best broth recently.

Tampopo Ramen is located in a nondescript shopping center at the corner of McClintock and Southern. It's a small restaurant with a few tables, though mostly counter seating. The Tonkotsu Ramen had a flavorful broth and plenty of ramen staples such as egg and sprouts. I'm not a big fan of fungus, though I'm sure you can request certain toppings to be omitted. (Be sure you don't forget like I did.) The Goma Kyuri (Cucumber in Sesame Oil Sauce) was good, though could have used just a hint more salt. The cucumbers were thinly sliced and had good texture. The service was quick. Unless you catch them at a busy time, you're likely to be in and out in less than 30 minutes. Great when you're in a hurry. Of course, they have take out, too. I look forward to returning to Tampopo Ramen, maybe on a cold winter's day when hot soup will REALLY hit the spot.

I'm not the biggest ramen fan, but that changes here. I've tried all the popular ramen spots around the area, and none have the flavorful broth that Tampopo has. I could drink a bowl of just the broth. The toppings are very good too, of course. I even added kakuni to mine, and was not disappointed. I also tried the pork bun, and it was also a must have. Also, the staff were very nice and attentive. After eating here I don't think I'll be able to go to any other ramen spots. I'll be coming back frequently.

When I walked in, I was promptly directed to where I should go so I could place a takeout order. The genuine courtesy of the staff here was just what I needed after a long day. Lots of great options for sushi but ramen sounded amazing on a chilly winter day. I ordered a couple options and requested for the toppings to be separated so my picky eater could pick out what she didn't like. The food was out promptly and packaged with such care. Once I got it back to my daughter's hospital room, we were able to feast on the best meal we had all day. I'm surprised they don't have more, but there's still a great variety to choose from. The space has ample seating and is very clean. Your order comes out pretty quickly! The servers are nice and the $20 combo deal is well worth in my opinion. You get to choose a bowl of ramen and an appetizer for that price. Fried Gyoza: savory and crunchy with the perfect dip to top it off. Shoyu Ramen: Well done egg and comforting warm broth. Love the ratio of broth to noodles. The pork is perfect in proportion and tender bite. Pork Bun: the cutest bun with a piece of marinated pork inside. Pretty good app! I'm not sure if they make smaller pork buns for the combo because if you order a fried gyoza with the combo, it comes with 4 pieces instead of 6. Either way it was worth it as part of the combo. If you're looking for an affordable comfort ramen spot I definitely recommend Silverlake!

The patty was perfectly fried and there was a nice blend of textures/flavors. Would order again! 10/10 Veggie Ramen: miso base, mixed veggies and greens, corn, tofu, mushroom, avocado, fried broccolini, bean sprouts, and black pepper. The flavor was good. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

I loved that the sake came in a clear tokkuri. The ramen was soo delicious. I added some chili oil to my broth to give it some spice. The spice is one of those that slowly creeps up on you, but doesn't linger too long. The chashu pork was thin and savory. I usually don't enjoy bean sprouts, but here they were subtle and added a pleasant texture to the ramen. I also love that they included the naruto fish cake. I think what makes this place stand out is that at this price point, quality ramen like this is rare to find nowadays. Upon entering, we were free to seat ourselves and chose a booth by the wall. It was not busy at all and the service was quick and friendly. We started off with a large sake bomb paired with a Kirin Light ($15). We then ordered two Tonkotsu Ramens, one medium spice and one hot spice ($15.99 each). Honestly, the hot spice level did not taste spicy at all, so I would recommend going extra hot if you like spice. They also provide chili powder on the table if you want to add more spice yourself. The ramen broth itself could have used a tad more flavor. I lightly added some soy sauce to the broth which is something I often do to add a little kick. I loved all of the toppings included, from the green onions to the kikurage (wood ear mushroom). My favorite part was the pork chashu, which was really tender and delicious. I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Also, I found it neat that Nishikawa offers a rewards program, not something I see often at ramen shops. My true rating would be 4.5 due to some of the criticisms I mentioned above, but overall I still had a good experience. Thank you for serving us. Visited 5/2/26

I sat there for several minutes and when she came back, she asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a menu and then she tapped this little sign on the table that had a QR code on it. I guess they want you to use your phone to look up the menu but then she brought me a printed menu and a glass of water. I had about a minute to look at the menu before the waitress came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small portion of the chicken karaage appetizer and the Nishikawa Black Ramen. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.
