Charshu Ramen
Jonna L.

This ramen is fantastic!! I had the Charshu Ramen and it was a great choice. The broth is perfectly flavored and the pork just melts in your mouth. The service was quick and the staff was pleasant! It's a pretty small restaurant, so if you go with a group it may be hard to find seating, but if it's nice outside the outside seating is lovely! The prices are so affordable - I'd come here all the time if I lived any closer. One thing to note - the hours are pretty limited, so going on a weekday for lunch or early dinner is the best move and you won't regret it.

The food was amazing as usual. Everytime i come it's so delicious and quick. The worker at the front desk is super nice and great service. Vibes are great in there.

First time having ramen, I usually get Pho but my friend and I decided to try this spot. We are from the Bay Area and been out here since Friday, celebrating my birthday. This hit the spot, especially after nights of drinking lol. 20/10 definitely recommend. Literally sitting here eating and writing this review. Definitely gotta return, the next time I return to Arizona.

Love hole in the walls like this!! While it's quaint, it's clean and smelled great! The service was prompt and friendly. The food, though was EXCELLENT! I was super impressed with the value of the food for the price. I also appreciated the variety on the menu. Loved this little place, and would definitely go back. I loved the chicken katsu curry, the chicken was excellent. But, the only picture we snapped was the Tantán ramen.

Best ramen I've had in a while. Broth was light and flavorful and not too fatty. Their katsu bowl was also great

My favorite ramen in the Phoenix area! Service is fast, food is fresh, and the price is right. My favorite is the special tantanmen ramen. So spicy and flavorful and yummy!!!

So I walked halfway and then took a Lyft. 25 min walk from Mill Ave or 4 min Uber/lyft. Well worth the walk and the ride share request. I was actually impressed with the availability of vegetables and non pork items and meats available to order. As someone who doesn't eat pork, I appreciated the chicken curry, chicken katsu, vegetable ramen, and the Champon ramen that included a lot of veggies, chicken and shrimp. This was the first time I saw bok choy and carrots and broccoli in a ramen but since I love veggies, my stomach was happy with the variety. It originally came with the soy sauce/salt shoyu broth? I forget the name but I asked if they could do a miso instead and they made my Champon (chicken, shrimp, egg, + veggies ) ramen with a miso broth and it was amazing! Super delicious. There are only a few seats inside, a nice size bathroom, Mexican beers, Arizona ice tea, and some Japanese beers to purchase or water with your meal. You can sit countertop where you can see the kitchen cook, sit at the window, or small tables inside. The service was good, the cashier asks the cook/chef if they're able to get an okay with any changes and then you patiently wait for your food. There's soy sauce, Japanese seasoning, and hot sauce at the table. They also have rice bowls and other items for purchase too. I had a very good lunch and will return! Very filling and very delicious. They didn't skim me on the noodles or the veggies and I appreciate that and the broth was delicious.

Yummy ramen at an affordable price! Small and casual restaurant with limited parking near ASU. Kind service. Ordered the Yatai Ramen and it was pretty good. Not super amazing but for $11 it's hard to beat! Tonkatsu broth was good and not too heavy like I've had at other places. Husband got the combo which comes with ramen and an additional entree for $15. Good value and you'll def be full.

Amazing amazing amazing! This is a small business that looks to be at the end of an apartment building maybe. I saw the reviews on Yelp and saw that they were really good so we decided to try it. When we were there, an older gentleman was the only one working the counter and cooking so it took a while but we didn't mind. He was working hard and we just knew the food was going to be great and IT WAS. So worth the wait. It is a good price and tons of food. We all ended up getting one of the combos and 1 teriyaki chicken bowl. I got the chicken curry combo that came with a ramen bowl and a rice bowl. The curry was so good with both dishes. I literally had two meals. So good and worth the price. Everyone should try this hidden gem. Please be patient when you get there. It may take a while.

House katsu curry rice (pork)

I've been wanting to visit Yatai for some time now and glad that I finally did. The food was great and the prices and fabulous for the quality and value. I initially was going to opt for the teriyaki, then switched my mind to ramen to only change it to the katsu curry rice. It was a great decision! The katsu was fried perfectly and was tasty. The curry was also good and sat on a bed of rice so all the flavor soaked up nicely. I was perfectly satisfied at the end of the meal without feeling overly full or stuffed. The establishment is on the smaller side. There's nothing wrong with it but just something to be aware of. Also, they are only opened on the weekdays. I'm looking forward to trying the ramen next time!

It was galaxy's better than the first one I tried. I can't wait to try a different one next time. Aside from the wonderful food. The staff there was really nice. I ordered a couple options and requested for the toppings to be separated so my picky eater could pick out what she didn't like. The food was out promptly and packaged with such care. I'm surprised they don't have more, but there's still a great variety to choose from. The space has ample seating and is very clean. Your order comes out pretty quickly! The servers are nice and the $20 combo deal is well worth in my opinion. You get to choose a bowl of ramen and an appetizer for that price. Fried Gyoza: savory and crunchy with the perfect dip to top it off. Shoyu Ramen: Well done egg and comforting warm broth. Love the ratio of broth to noodles. The pork is perfect in proportion and tender bite. Pork Bun: the cutest bun with a piece of marinated pork inside. Pretty good app! I'm not sure if they make smaller pork buns for the combo because if you order a fried gyoza with the combo, it comes with 4 pieces instead of 6. Either way it was worth it as part of the combo. If you're looking for an affordable comfort ramen spot I definitely recommend Silverlake!

With ample seating inside and a self serve kiosk to take orders, the initial experience was quick and easy. The menu offers a wide variety from the obvious ramen, to rolls, rice bowls, and a range of appetizers (baos!) We were happy to see vegetarian options available. This is what we ordered: Impossible Bun: impossible katsu patty, shredded cabbage, hot mustard, and katsu sauce. I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would if I'm being honest! The patty was perfectly fried and there was a nice blend of textures/flavors. Would order again! 10/10 Veggie Ramen: miso base, mixed veggies and greens, corn, tofu, mushroom, avocado, fried broccolini, bean sprouts, and black pepper. The flavor was good. It was an interesting mix of toppings (could have done without the lettuce). Noodles were good. The broth could have been hotter, but we were in a time crunch. Overall, good value with a variety of toppings. 8/10 Service was friendly and accomodating without being overly attentive. Would defintely visit again!

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

The music set a fun vibe, and the service was nice and attentive. We ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen ($12.50) and sake bombs with House Sake ($3) and Kirin Light ($7.50). I loved that the sake came in a clear tokkuri. The ramen was soo delicious. I added some chili oil to my broth to give it some spice. The spice is one of those that slowly creeps up on you, but doesn't linger too long. The chashu pork was thin and savory. I usually don't enjoy bean sprouts, but here they were subtle and added a pleasant texture to the ramen. I also love that they included the naruto fish cake. I think what makes this place stand out is that at this price point, quality ramen like this is rare to find nowadays. I would consider this place a hidden gem and definitely recommend it if you are near the area. I look forward to eating it again!

Nishikawa Ramen is a small little ramen shop decorated with anime posters from Naruto, One Piece,…read moreand Dragon Ball. There were also cute little trinkets of My Neighbor Totoro. Upon entering, we were free to seat ourselves and chose a booth by the wall. It was not busy at all and the service was quick and friendly. We started off with a large sake bomb paired with a Kirin Light ($15). We then ordered two Tonkotsu Ramens, one medium spice and one hot spice ($15.99 each). Honestly, the hot spice level did not taste spicy at all, so I would recommend going extra hot if you like spice. They also provide chili powder on the table if you want to add more spice yourself. The ramen broth itself could have used a tad more flavor. I lightly added some soy sauce to the broth which is something I often do to add a little kick. I loved all of the toppings included, from the green onions to the kikurage (wood ear mushroom). My favorite part was the pork chashu, which was really tender and delicious. I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Also, I found it neat that Nishikawa offers a rewards program, not something I see often at ramen shops. My true rating would be 4.5 due to some of the criticisms I mentioned above, but overall I still had a good experience. Thank you for serving us. Visited 5/2/26

I sat there for several minutes and when she came back, she asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a menu and then she tapped this little sign on the table that had a QR code on it. I guess they want you to use your phone to look up the menu but then she brought me a printed menu and a glass of water. I had about a minute to look at the menu before the waitress came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small portion of the chicken karaage appetizer and the Nishikawa Black Ramen. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.
