Chicken Katsu Curry
Adeola O.

I ordered the chicken Katsu curry, it was delicious. Came to me hot and fresh. The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy, seasoned very lightly. The curry was sweet, perfect accent to the savory chicken. The rice was soft and perfectly cooked. My friends ordered ramen and sushi rolls. We thought the sushi rolls would be $5 but they were $20 each. That was unexpected! Huge rolls, meant to be shared! The serving sizes were perfect for dinner. The service was decent, our server was nice. She didn't come to us often so we opted out of ordering drinks. Other than that, I LOVED the chicken katsu curry. I'll be ordering that again before my flight it was that delicious. The ambiance was chill, vibey, very clean place!

MINI CHIRASHI

The food quality is so good here! We've ordered different items in different time we visited, the price was very reasonable. I loved their unagi donburi and chirashi don, you can taste the freshness of sashimi. The beef and tofu sukiyaki is a warm appetizer to start a meal, and the amount of meat was quite generous. The dynamite was on the heavier side, it tasted good but better to share with others. The ramen in noodle combination was a small portion, and I really liked this combination because you can choose two smaller dishes. The quality of food in this combination was still there. Overall, loved the food, service and the atmosphere there.

Gyoza

Happy hour menu had decent deals but was a limited selection. We had the spicy tuna roll, crunchy roll, chicken katsu curry, and the happy hour gyoza. Bill came out to 80ish (including tip) for two people. The sushi was decent, curry just alright, and gyoza tasty but needed a thicker sauce to pair with the crispy fried shell. The waitress was kind and food came out quick. Id say its your basic take out sushi place, wish the happy hour had better options for rolls.

Sapporo Hot small sake Beef and tofu sukiyaki Combo omnoyaki Cucumber salad very fresh wish it was soaked to give it more of that flavor it sits in a love, sukiyaki I thought was gonna be the soup version but guess I was wrong haha super good still tho and the whole reason I came for the pop up street food vendor from Japan the omonoyaki which flavorful asf and amazing I'm addicted to it only con is I got the combo but I had no shrimp in mine idk if they forgot but I still paid the price but like i literally didn't have any in it what the heck xc really good spot honestly tho service was good and it's pretty clean

Chunky yellowtail roll

This spot is such a gem tucked away in Scottsdale. The home of the $5 sushi rolls and the chunky rolls are incredible -- fresh, thick cuts of fish piled generously on top make them taste far beyond their price tag. Quality and presentation are on par with much pricier places. The full menu covers all the classics, from customizable bentos to mix and match entree combos. Everything feels thoughtfully made, and the kind, authentic service from the Japanese staff adds a genuine warmth and authenticity to the experience. I've traveled across town to come here more times than I can count and it takes me back to Japan every time!

Several different kinds!

It was fast service & we ordered HH. Everything was good but the best presentation was the Dynamite California roll. For 5 bucks a plate you can't really go wrong but they are pretty basic rolls. The inside is close tables, very close! I don't know if we'll go back because there's so many other sushi restaurants to try, but it was worth the visit

We went on a Thursday for happy hour . The food was good. Nothing Wowed me. The happy hour sushi roll menu was pretty limited from other places I've been. I didn't have a favorite unfortunately. There was a roll that had eel and octopus that I tired for the first time. It wasn't bad. It was fresh and was not chewy how I imagined it would taste, nor was it fishy. The waitress was great. She made sure we were taken care of and collected our plates as we emptied them. The place was also beautiful and intimate. The decor and setup was really nice. The hot sake was good but the cold sake was great.

$5 HH, I can't complain! Service was quick and great. Our favorite was the shrimp tempura. Also got the yellowtail, eel, and a baked tuna dish. As well as salmon nigiri. Servers were super kind and friendly!

Dynamite California roll

Sushi Sen is the closest sushi place to my house, and my girlfriend and I decided to stop in tonight. We were seated upon entry and we felt right at home. The decor in here is minimalist and sleek. They have this weird statue in the corner that made us go "WTF". Our server was sweet and helpful. This place has some very fresh tasting sushi, I ordered the Dynamite California roll and the Soft Shell Crab roll with fried gyoza. My girlfriend ordered the miso soup. The Dynamite California roll was the superior roll, and it was exactly the flavor explosion I was looking for. It was so yummy! My girlfriend's miso was also very tasty and so smooth. I ordered the Yuzu soda to drink and it was delicious as well, and it came in a very wide glass which was nice. The service here was excellent, the vibe was on point, and the food was delicious, we'll be back!

Bento box- best deal on the menu
Gabi M.

I've ordered both take-out and delivery from Sushi Sen and it has always been top notch albeit a bit pricey. So when my friend suggested we meet here for a girls dinner earlier this week, I was all in! Upon being seated, I was pleased to see a more extensive dine-in menu (including a great bento box deal where you choose one item from three different categories), and a nice cocktail / wine / saki list to... Service was on the slow side to start but it was fine after we ordered. The sushi was all very good but some of the cooked food was blah ie: hamachi kama and chicken teriyaki that were served with our bento boxes. One friend had a noodle dish and enjoyed that. Ambiance was pleasant, hostess team was super nice, and I would definitely go back / order again... at least for the sushi!

As always good sushi and good value for happy hour. The receptionist needs a lesson in customer service. We made reservations and are a regular here but we got lectured about having an extra person and waitress was so unhappy, seriously the place was empty with open tables from when we were seated to when we left.

Chicken Katsu Don
Kandyce K.

I honestly stumbled upon this place because the sushi restaurant I wanted to go to was closed that day. I was pleasantly surprised. I wanted to get a little variety. The oshinko roll was not what I'm used to in Hawaii so that was a little bit of a disappointment. The eel cucumber roll was good! I also got the chicken katsu don as this is one of the dishes I get to test an establishment. It was really good. I loved the flavor and was able to take some home for lunch the next day! I can tell they get busy during prime meal times. I sat up at the bar and food came out fairly quickly. Everyone was hustling to get food out especially from the sushi bar. The location is not directly visible from the parking lot. There is a sign and you have to walk through the entry way a little bit to get to the restaurant. I want to go back and try more things on the menu!

Located in the Seville shopping center in Scottsdale, you'll find Sen Sushi, a wonderful little restaurant serving authentic Japanese cuisine: fresh hand-rolled sushi, sashimi, and bento boxes. They have a great happy hour featuring $5.00 sushi rolls from 4:30 to 5:45 pm, M-F. We arrived about 4:45 and were seated quickly, and by 5:00, the place was packed with customers. We selected 4 different $5.00 rolls: chunky spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail tempura, shrimp tempura roll, and their baked Alaska roll. They were all delicious, with good portion sizes, and the quality of the sushi was very good. A little sake, a little sushi, a great atmosphere, and our lunch only came to $35.00. We definitely plan to return to take advantage of happy hour again!

Nishikawa Ramen is a small little ramen shop decorated with anime posters from Naruto, One Piece,…read moreand Dragon Ball. There were also cute little trinkets of My Neighbor Totoro. Upon entering, we were free to seat ourselves and chose a booth by the wall. It was not busy at all and the service was quick and friendly. We started off with a large sake bomb paired with a Kirin Light ($15). We then ordered two Tonkotsu Ramens, one medium spice and one hot spice ($15.99 each). Honestly, the hot spice level did not taste spicy at all, so I would recommend going extra hot if you like spice. They also provide chili powder on the table if you want to add more spice yourself. The ramen broth itself could have used a tad more flavor. I lightly added some soy sauce to the broth which is something I often do to add a little kick. I loved all of the toppings included, from the green onions to the kikurage (wood ear mushroom). My favorite part was the pork chashu, which was really tender and delicious. I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Also, I found it neat that Nishikawa offers a rewards program, not something I see often at ramen shops. My true rating would be 4.5 due to some of the criticisms I mentioned above, but overall I still had a good experience. Thank you for serving us. Visited 5/2/26

I sat there for several minutes and when she came back, she asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a menu and then she tapped this little sign on the table that had a QR code on it. I guess they want you to use your phone to look up the menu but then she brought me a printed menu and a glass of water. I had about a minute to look at the menu before the waitress came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small portion of the chicken karaage appetizer and the Nishikawa Black Ramen. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.

I'm assuming it's a family-owned joint because the one and only guy working front of house always takes care of me. He's awesome. The place is cute. It's tastefully decorated, and they have a very-on-brand, ginormous full moon light on the wall that's illuminated from behind. It's super cool. I've only ever seen a couple other diners in there with me at any time. The food comes out super fast, which is great, because I'm hungry as soon as i step in the place. I like the interior decor of Shio with cute cartoon cats slurping noodles and interesting looking wood panels on the ceilings and walls. On Friday around 1:45pm it wasn't busy at all. The staff were all friendly, and food came out right away. The lunch special essentially is a discounted price bowl of ramen from $17 to $13 and some additional sushi options at $4 (limit 1). We opted to try 2 different types of ramen so we could share-- Tonkatsu and Spicy Miso. Both solid flavors and my main gripe is that for some reason my tonkatsu bowl used a different type of ramen noodle that was thinner and less chewy than the Spicy Miso. I liked those noodles better. The pork that comes with the ramen is delicious! Rainbow roll was good and I probably didn't need to order the tootsie roll, as it was essentially a rainbow roll minus the fish on top. We tried the green Matcha IPA from Kyoto for fun and because we love Kyoto, it was pretty good. I'd come back on happy hour to try other items and have a drink.

It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!
