My husband surprised me with a date night at Kodo Sushi. It was my first time eating here, but had heard him talking about it many times in the past. Upon arrival, the place doesn't look like anything special. It's inside a strip mall, and looks mediocre. However, do not judge too soon. Once you get inside, everything is well laid out & it's very nice. It was busy when we went in on a Friday night, BUT we got seated quicker than estimated- which is always a win! I was not happy with where we were seated, as it was facing the wall in the small bar area. We are people watchers by nature, so it's always fun to be in a spot where we can look around the room effortlessly. However, it wasn't the end of the world and I certainly didn't want to wait any longer, the food looked wonderful & I was starving! I do not remember exactly which rolls we got, but... all of them were EXCELLENT!! Everything was undoubtedly fresh, and made with quality ingredients. I thought the black rice was really neat! I've never seen that before. The waitstaff were very friendly and accommodating. It took no time at all to get our orders out, which was impressive considering that the place was packed near capacity! As we left, all of the sushi pros behind the glass thanked us for coming in and wished us a great rest of our evening. I thought that was very kind. It's not very often that you find a whole line of people stopping what they are doing to wish you well on your way out of their establishment. All in all, 10/10 experience! I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Sushi!
The sushi was good, but the service was fantastic! They were very attentive. Our server Ana did a wonderful job! I do like the art in there. I would say it's a great place to have lunch near Costco. It isn't the best sushi spot in Scottsdale, but at least the price is reasonable. Our total came out to $62 pre tip for 4 rolls, edamame, and an order of nigiri.
Always consistent and delicious, They are so wonderful and really get to know their regulars so I barely have to ask for a thing when I'm here. Chirashi lunch with generous udon soup on the lunch special is perfect and I always enjoy leftovers!

It's so conveniently located next to Costco that I got my car washed then drove on into the connecting shopping center where the restaurant was at. I had the lunch special that included the rainbow roll, dynamite roll and miso soup. The lunch specials we had were a great deal for the quality and quantity. I had the rainbow+dynamite combo. The fish was fresh and I love the use of purple rice in the rolls. I was pleasantly full from the good food and portions. I would definitely go here again.
I stopped into Kodo Sushi Sake on Northsight Boulevard on a Friday right when they opened at 4:00 PM. I was dining solo and had no trouble finding a seat since there's plenty of seating throughout the restaurant. That said, I was surprised by how quickly the place started filling up after opening, which is always a good sign. One of the first things I noticed was the large sushi bar and being able to watch the sushi chefs at work. There were five of them, which I took as a sure sign this place gets busy. I ordered the spider roll, salmon avocado roll, and steamed edamame. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and exactly what I was hoping for. One unique thing about Kodo is their rice blend. They use a combination of black and white rice, which gives the sushi a distinctive purple color. It's not something you see every day, and it definitely makes their sushi stand out. I also have a food allergy, and the staff handled it carefully and without any issues. They offer fountain drinks, which I always prefer. And I liked their plastic to-go container. It kept my leftovers from getting soggy by next day. Easy five stars.
I want to preface this with I'm kind of a sushi snob because I have one of the best sushi restaurants by my house in Las Vegas that I've ever been to. We decided to try this place while traveling to see one of our friends. This location is in a strip mall it's very clean the service was amazing. Their theme is black rice so all the sushi rolls come out looking darker than you would normally see. The sushi was not bad at all but some of the rolls were a little bit fishier than I would like. I don't remember the rolls and I only took a picture of one of them.
I haven't had sushi in a while, so I suggested this spot to meet up with my boba sistah. We got there a few minutes after they opened at 11am and had the place to ourselves. They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. We were greeted warmly and chose a booth towards the right. I had noticed their lunch specials offered M-F 11-2pm so we both ordered from that menu. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!
Kodo is delicious! I love their lunch specials, especially the udon and two mini rolls for $18 on M-F from 11am-2pm. The service is always friendly. The restaurant has booths, tables, and sushi bar seating. It can get busy during peak times, but I've never had to wait more than a minute or two for a table. There's plenty of parking outside as this location is inside of a strip mall.
Kodo is one of those places that once you try, it becomes your regular sushi spot. Located a few minute away from the Scottsdale airport, it should be the first restaurant on your list as you leave the airport. They offer plenty of parking. Sitting options are plenty -inside and outside. The restaurant layout is inviting and the staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The menu is simple and offers a lot of sushi, nigiri and sashimi choices. In this trip we got some sashimi, a few rolls and the delicious Ahi Tower. Everything was fresh and tasty. The rolls we got were Blue Ocean Roll, Salmon Lover Roll and Mt. Fuji Roll. If you're in the area, don't hesitate to stop by and give them a try. You will not be disappointed!
We came here for dinner and waited a bit since it was pretty busy and we were such a large group. They don't do reservations so you just have to put your name down on the waitlist. Plenty of parking since it is in a plaza. Omakase (4/5): This was 10 pieces of nigiri and a small side of sashimi. Honestly a pretty good deal since it was around $40. Me and a few other people got this combo and we all got different fish for our sashimi. I got yellowtail and it was fresh. here were some raw nigiri and some seared. I don't think they explained the different pieces to us. My favorites were probably the toro and eel. I will say that it took a very long time for the omakase plates to come out. Not sure if they were staggering it since other people ordered normal rolls and plates. The food was definitely good though so I guess I'll let it pass. Everyone else in my party enjoyed it too. This is a great dinner spot but come early to beat the rush.
Finally got to try the famous Kodo Sushi! I'm pretty satisfied with their price and quality. They have reasonable price and their fish quality was good! Had sashimi appetizer- sashimi pieces were big and fresh, and rolls were yummy and portion was good. Also people are friendly here! I'd definitely come back!
Kodo Sushi is absolutely fantastic. I used to come here all the time when I worked in North Scottsdale and hadn't been back in years, so it was great to return. I've honestly never seen this place not busy during the dinner rush, which says a lot about the quality of the food, the employees, and the pride they take in what they do. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a rainbow roll, and both were equally delightful. Big portions with noticeably more sushi than I expected, especially when compared to other places at similar price points. I can't say enough good things about Kodo from all the times I've been here. I'd happily recommend it to anyone looking to try a great sushi spot.
Mediocre but I'd be willing to try it again now that I know what I'm getting into. The salmon sashimi I ordered was spot on, and really good. 8 slices for $15 is also the best pricing I have found in all of Scottsdale. I also ordered salmon skin and here is where the star deduction came into play. The salmon skin was served to me the way I asked - no rice, no sauce, no vegetables - BUT, it was burnt. So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. He said the spicy tuna was good but the spicy salmon wasn't - it was as if the salmon quality that was used was poor.

Saturday 10/10 Came for an early dinner before heading to the Uncorked Arizona event at Chase Field grounds. Last time we enjoyed the sushi so much we had to come back for more. The sake I had was the Omikaze cold and unfiltered: delicious!, we also had the coconut cold sake. The ambiance is very pleasant, relaxed, the sushi preparation is done facing towards the tables, while the fried items are cooked in the kitchen. The staff in general are helpful and polite, our server especially was attentive, made sure there was no chile in what I ordered - and she took care that any spicy sauces were on the side, so we could share the various sushi orders. We ordered the Super Crunch Shrimp Roll, deep-fried, wrapped in soy paper, with shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese, crab stick and eel sauce. My favorite but all are so good it's hard to choose. A nice sashimi of yellowtail and albacore that was fresh, delicious, could've had more: the seaweed garnish was fresh and crunchy. Then the Rainbow roll came looking perfect but it was spicy so I admired it and my friends ate it all. The Kodo roll was also delicious, they kindly put the spicy garlic on the side so I could share with the others, The following review is from my first visit, I somehow thought I had posted it: , oops. Pleasant and efficient, with tables and some comfy banquettes along the side; the sushi station had three - maybe four? - chefs making the rolls and sashimiI while we decided what to order. I was quite impressed by the sashimi, but the whole lunch was delicious. We went around 1pm, so it wasn't crowded which was perfect for enjoying chatting and the food. We ordered sake bombs and for me the cold unfiltered sake: a good choice with deliciously fresh Sashimi, tempura shrimp, the unagi was delicious!, a tuna roll and a platter to share with salmon, the mentioned unagi nigiri and another spicy salmon I couldn't taste because there was chili in it. This review is strictly for the food as I ordered through Uber Eats. I didn't step food into the resturant or have interaction with the employees. I like that they use purple rice for all the sushi here, it's healthy and also adds a bit to the flavor. Fish is fresh and portion sizes are generous - I mean that in a way that the rolls and sushi fill you up quite quickly without the rolls being too large in size. The balance between fish and rice is a solid ratio, although I'll say that everything started to taste quiet similar after a while and I couldn't really differentiate between the different rolls. Anyways, overall a solid sushi spot in Scottsdale, AZ. Mt Fuji Roll- Love that they top with raw scallop! Yellowtail Carpaccio - Fresh and vibrant, jalapeno adds a nice kick Havana Roll - The mango brings brightness to the roll 5 Nigiri & Crazy Roll - Value combo, the bluefin tuna quality is good read more

A hidden gem of a sushi spot! Came in with the husb on a Saturday afternoon so we were quickly seated. The restaurant is medium-sized and has really elegant and tasteful decor - woven basket lampshades, torii gate over the entrance, and a colorful accents throughout the space. Combine that with the dim lighting and it makes for a very warm and inviting space. I'm a Toro lover so I immediately locked in on their signature Kodo Roll that has seared Toro and was really stuffed with ingredients with just a thin layer of rice. Love that they use black rice here! I also adore riceless rolls wrapped in Cucumber so we also ordered the Oasis Roll. Very fresh and crisp. Paired really nicely with the vinegar. Paired our rolled with the veggie tempura and seaweed salad (my husb's must-order). I skipped lunch so I was still a little hungry. I decided to add the Mango Crunch Roll to get some food diversity as it had salmon. Another smashing hit! All in all, they pack their rolls with a lot of really quality ingredients, a thin layer of black rice, and present them beautifully for your enjoyment. Service was fantastic as well. Everyone was very attentive and our water glasses were never empty. If you're looking for high quality sushi, great service, and a warm unpretentious emvironment, you need to go to Kodo Sushi Sake! If I'm in the Scottsdale area, it'll be my mission to eat here again! read more
I had such an amazing experience here! The service was truly five-star -- the waitresses were so much fun and made the whole night feel special. We ordered several rolls and every single one was mouthwatering. The restaurant is small enough so you can see the sushi bar from your and watch the chefs make everything fresh, which adds so much to the experience. One thing that really stood out to me was their rice options. Their brown rice and especially their purple rice are incredible -- and all of their rolls come with purple rice! It's unique, flavorful, and makes the sushi taste even better. This is the kind of place you come to for both the food and the vibe. Highly recommend! read more

This is our go-to all time favorite sushi spot!! The purple rice is light and fluffy. Every roll has so much flavor!! They have the best miso soup I have ever tasted!! Also love the green tea mochi ice cream dessert!! Service is great - everyone is so kind and attentive! read more
Great, delicious sushi made fresh before your eyes and pleasant service make this a must eat at location for sushi. The sushi dudes and dudettes behind the fish counter are focused and yet attentive if you sit in front of them. They do a massive amount of carry out. They do have some Japanese apps available and maybe two bowls of noodles and that is it besides sushi. And they do sushi right! read more

This sushi spot completely exceeded my expectations! Every bite was incredibly fresh and packed with flavor. One of the rolls featured premium toro and bluefin tuna, while the other was topped with perfectly seared salmon: both were absolutely delicious. The quality of the fish was exceptional, and you can really tell they use top-tier ingredients. If you're a sushi lover, I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

My family, friends, and I have come here to eat quite often for the past couple of years. Ever since we found this place it has been our go to sushi spot. They offer countless kinds of rolls and sides as well as the best spicy edamame I've ever had. The service and ambiance is always great and they're typically very fast at this location. I had friends visiting from out of town and they absolutely loved this place. They've been talking about it ever since. My favorite role here is the Las Vegas roll and it is perfect when it comes out. When my friends were here they tried the natto and they said it was good if you're into that kind of thing. We also had the dynamite roll and crazy roll, which is my family's favorite. Overall, this place is the best and we've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. read more

Toro and salmon negiri are amazing, rolls were great too. I had the oasis roll (so good!), gyoza, Toro negiri, salmon negiri, and yellowtail.com. I would recommend all of them. Service was quick and friendly. Ambiance is about like most sushi places in Scottsdale but overall really good quality fish. read more

I ordered take out for two (4) rolls - the combo roll which is 3 choose ur own mini rolls with dynamite, rainbow, shrimp tempura and an eel cucumber roll. I love a combo roll since I like to try a bit of everything and it's hard to do so ordering solo. Rolls were ready really quickly and labeled nicely. Dynamite roll (3/5) it was just a bit too saucy so it made the roll a bit too salty and hid the flavors of the fish Rainbow roll (4/5) enjoyed the fish and it was fresh - their crab meat is with mayo so felt heavier Shrimp tempura roll (4.5/5) my fav roll of the night, shrimp was fried fresh! Eel roll (3.5/5) unfortunately immediately got some bones from the eel but it was tasty and once again was a bit too saucy Overall rolls were really fresh but could use a bit less sauce as it overpowers the flavors of the fish and crabmeat. Absolutely one of my favorite sushi places in the valley. Everything is clean, service is nice and quick, food is delicious. The OMG roll (the one that comes out on fire) is delicious and our family favorite. It has the perfect toasty flavor on the outside. We've even ordered this roll and packed it home for leftovers and ate it! The spider roll is also so crunchy and so fresh. Don't be turned away by the purple rice! It's a unique but it doesn't change the flavor of the sushi in my opinion. The yellowtail carpaccio is also delicious - we like to save the sauce and dip our rolls in there. The nigiri usually comes with fresh wasabi (not the colored horseradish paste) so if you're not a fan, I recommend asking them to take it off. Bathroom is one stall but it's also plenty big for anyone who has ADA needs! read more

Last night we ordered take out off of uber eats and we simply selected the best overall feature. Uber eats does not lie. We've had several sushi restaurants in the area for take out and this was hands down the best tasting sushi we've had in north Scottsdale so far! They also labeled each roll making it easy to know! I live about 15 minutes away from the location and we had our order In under an hour. read more

Do they do hibachi here? I typed in hibachi in Scottsdale and they were listed as number 2 but I couldn't tell from their website?
No hibachi style cooking at Kodo. They do have an Oh My God roll that they finish with fire at the table and it is my favorite, but no table side cooking.
Do they Deliver?
You can use any of the delivery services; UberEats, DoorDash, etc., I've seen them quite busy with delivery orders.
Are all those rolls made with the purple rice and what is the difference with white rice and purple rice?
I did not notice if my rice was purple so I'm going to say that it was white rice
Is there gluten free option?
Yes, they offer a variety of gluten free options and vegan rolls! There is also gluten free and low sodium soy sauce! Kodo can also customize your rolls to be gluten free as well.
I can't eat crab mix, do you guys accommodate taking items off the rolls?
They allow you to sub with spicy tuna for $1, we do this with all crab mix roll since we are gluten free
Do they have uni or yellowtail carpaccio?
Yes uni! And super fresh, one of the only places in Scottsdale I'll eat it at. And yes they have yellowtail
Do they offer a poke salad bowl?
I don't believe so but their menu is on their listing
