Service was super great but I honestly didn't care for the food. It is a strict sushi bar and you can't order anything else other than the katsu chicken which comes with a little rice and a couple gyoza. The veggie tempura and spring rolls were good but tiny portions. My husband loved the kodo and Havana rolls- I had one piece of each and was not impressed. I'm super picky with my sushi. The ambiance was inviting, bathrooms were dirty. I don't think I'll be back. To reiterate- the service was top notch!
Best sushi I've tried in the Phoenix valley! Our server, Ana, was a gem. Super helpful and attentive to our table. The food was exceptional. Try the Apple sake -- it's amazing! I can't say enough good things about this place. Check it out for yourself.
Stopped in an hour before close, as my friend and I were going to see a movie at Harkins right next store. We were promptly seated and given menus where you check which items you would like. Interior is very nice inside, with plenty of tables with a a little dim lighting, which we loved. Ordered our drinks, 'sake colada' was sweet while the 'matcha mojito' was refreshing! Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout the whole experience. As well as the rest of the staff who helped deliver our food & give us our togo boxes. Once we ordered, our food came out very quickly. The tempura was crispy, the gyoza were filled with delicious flavors, and the sushi was fresh! We especially loved the 'Phoenix roll,' it was packed with flavor! You can never go wrong with nigiri and they did not disappoint. Will most definitely come back to try more of their menu, such a great experience!
We were seated immediately and our serve was okay, just did her job and checked on usj to see how we were doing. Since the last time we were here, I ordered the same thing just to see how consistent they were. I had the Chirashi and Salmon Skin hand roll. The Chirashi was up to par just love the different types of raw fish, purple sushi rice topped with Furikake, and two types of roe: salmon and flying fish. The hand roll was below par because the salmon skin was overcooked. My wife had the tempura shrimp and spicy tuna roll, But, all in all, we will be back
Kodo Sushi is one of our favorite places! My boyfriend and I come here every other week and always look forward to seeing the familiar faces. The sushi chefs are absolutely phenomenal, and we've never had anything that wasn't delicious. Also Jenny is a sweetheart! We especially love the hand rolls, and sitting at the sushi bar is a must, you get to watch all the amazing dishes come out. Everyone is incredibly friendly, the restaurant is always clean, and the food is consistently excellent. Highly recommend!
First time here and WOW . What an amazing experience! From the moment we sat down, our server Braxton made us feel so welcome. Super friendly, attentive, and on point the whole night . The sushi? Absolutely delicious! Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated (check out that roll ). Every bite was perfection! What a sad meal. When I took my order out of the take out bag my food was delivered in, I could immediately tell that the salmon skin was going to be awful. It looked dry and bland and when I tried it, those ideas were confirmed. Some of the worst salmon skin I have ever had. The sashimi that I got (sampler & salmon) were fine, albeit a little bland. Kind of tasted like nothing. My hamachi collar was thick and juicy but something just tasted OFF with it. I kind of felt nauseated while eating it. I honestly don't believe it even was hamachi (I could be wrong but I have had so many hamachi collars in my life that I can tell the difference). Over all this experience sucked. And the worst part is that it was VERY pricy. I definitely feel like I threw away money however I'm on the hunt for my go-to sushi spot, so I guess I sort of "had to" try.

(And a little backstory, she's not that into sushi) First by walking in the lighting was perfect and was met with a smile and friendly face! to start with the service it was impeccable really, it took me some time to choose what i'd like between the Arizona Roll and the H3 roll, i'm a spice fan so i went with the H3! (refer to photos below) my lady chose the Sex and the City roll, and i can tell you now the crunch along with the Eel sauce was delicious! i can tell you most about the few appetizers and the H3 roll, i've never had sushi like this before the H3 came with some fish eggs on top and it was really pleasing to the eye. it looked new, foreign and exotic the way everything popped (literally) we ordered: apps- Stuffed Jalepeno, Spring Rolls entree- H3 Roll, Sex and the City Roll she mentions it every other day and i think that's because we shared a nice time and a memory together shout out to the establishment, keep up the team work! -can't wait to come back
So happy this location opened near by! I enjoyed a cup of miso soup before the sushi rolls. My mom and I ordered the Havana roll (this one is spicy I was taken back by the kick), blue ocean roll, albacore roll, and a salmon avocado roll. I love that their rice is purple. Everything was fresh and delicious. The service is sooo good. We constantly had staff checking on us and asked how everything was. They have 2 outdoor patios and a spacious indoor space. The ambiance is great too!
Had another amazing dinner tonight. Excellent sushi and so fresh. The sake selection and mochi drizzled with caramel made our dinner so fun! Service 10/10
Came here with my colleagues and we had the best time! This was my first time in this location and we loved everything that we ordered that evening. Food was delicious, the service was excellent and the ambience was great! I will definitely comeback next time. Thank you! read more

FOOD SAFETY CONCERN -- FOREIGN MATERIAL IN MY SUSHI I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Kodo Sushi Bar on Mayo Blvd. on Friday night, September 25, 2026. I placed a to-go order, including Ikura sushi. While eating it at home, I actually chewed into a piece of foreign material that appeared to be Styrofoam and had to spit it out. I immediately photographed it and have video documentation as well. What happened when I called the restaurant was just as concerning. I spoke with a man who identified himself as Phillip/"Philly," the manager/GM. When I explained what happened, his response was: "Ahhh, that happens." I asked if he meant this happened often. He then said no and responded, "You know what I meant." He also told me he could refund the sushi "if you want." I told him I didn't understand why I was being asked whether I wanted a refund after literally chewing foreign material in my food. Again, he responded, "You know what I meant." While I was trying to explain why I was upset and why I felt this should be taken seriously, he repeatedly talked over me and ultimately hung up on me. I immediately tried calling back, but the phone would not go through. This is not about a refund. It's about finding foreign material in food and then having a manager respond to a serious complaint in a way that I found dismissive, interrupt me, and ultimately hang up. I am sharing the photos because I want customers to see what I found and make their own informed decisions. I am not claiming to know how the material got into the sushi or that this happens routinely. I am documenting what happened to me and exactly how my complaint was handled. I expected concern, accountability, and an investigation--not "ahhh, that happens." NOT OK!!!!! read more
Had lunch here for my son's birthday lunch. There are lots of great options on the menu and unlike some sushi spots, this one mixed things up so that I didn't feel like it was the same roll over and over with only one ingredient change. Service was fast and presentation was nice. While the rolls are expensive like most sushi places, the lunch specials (Mon-Fri, 11 am - 2 pm) provided great, budget-friendly options: Two rolls + 2 pieces of Nigeri or 3 pieces of Gyoza or a seaweed salad + Miso soup, all for $12-$17 depending on your combo. The only negative would be the lack of cooked sushi options like a baked scallop roll, baked salmon roll or baked langostino lobster roll. These are usually delicious and a go-to for me. read more

Solid 4 star. Great assortment of sushi rolls. We started out with gyozas..had two rolls I loved the Las Vegas roll. I didn't care much for the mango roll was kind of chewy. Yellowtail hamachi was very fresh and flavorful. Nice staff, chill atmosphere. Lots of TVs. We will be back soon! read more

My wife and I have tried dozens of other sushi places and Kodo is for the best we have ever had. We have even traveled to Japan many times and this Sushi is better than anything we had in Japan. read more
We tried three different rolls, the squid salad and the miso soup. Everything was excellent. The sushi was melt in your mouth quality. The rolls were tight and full of goodness- very minimal rice. We were provided a gift if spicy tuna that was awesome - tender, flavorful and beautifully presented. The staff was gracious and quick. There were three people rolling and plenty of servers. The menu are complete write in like ordering sushi. I also tried the Appletini which was very good with a very nice aroma of green apple. There is a full regular bar, a sit down sushi bar, and a dining area. The hosted greeted us with a smile and we were permitted to choose our seat. We will be back. So nice to have a quality sushi place so close. read more

This place is probably my favorite sushi restaurant. I often tell people I found the best sushi and it's in the desert! Every time we visit our son in Phoenix we make a trip here. We've eaten at both this location and the Scottsdale one. Both restaurants have great, fresh sushi and fantastic service. Unfortunately, we eat the sushi so quickly I keep forgetting to take pictures, so don't have many. But two items we really like and get every time: the Ahi Tower and Salmon.com. Both are fantastic, really, really good. But, if you just get some of the basics, like a Rainbow or California roll, those are awesome as well. One thing we really like is the purple rice they use - just gives a unique twist. And again on the servers, very friendly, attentive, and quick. Whether it's taking sushi orders, clearing plates, or refilling water, they are on it. Again, really my favorite (or for sure top 2 or 3) sushi restaurant and always a must visit for us. Highly recommend. read more

I'm new to town from LA and Koda was recommended and I have to say from Service to Food quality and price was truly 5 STARS. I really appreciate our server Medi from New Orleans. She was great and we had grest laughs. Please visit Kodo you will truly enjoy. The overall atmosphere and ambiance was definitely relaxing to enjoy all the great food and service. read more

Kudo is a must-try Japanese restaurant in Scottsdale. I have been in many Japanese Sashimi & Sushi restaurants across the US including LA, New York, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and many other places. This is a top pick in terms of sashimi/sushi quality as well as value and service. read more

The location and service of this Sushi restaurant is awesome! We were greeted by such a friendly server, and got our drink orders right away. The water tasted strange. The next strange thing, was our Sushi order came out super fast.. like way too fast! All at once! I'm assuming they must pre make the rolls and have them ready to go... in fact, that's my next mention of disappointment, they did not taste fresh, definitely reminded me of the rolls you get in the grocery store. The spicy tuna was so minced and mushy, we could not eat it. The rolls are relatively expensive, if comparing to other sushi restaurants, that serve made to order rolls and better ingredients. This was a big miss for me. Won't be going back. read more
I'm so happy they have a closer location to me, I love kodo. This is a bigger space then there other location. Nice bar and patio space. The service was great. And the food as always was fresh and reasonably priced. The salmon lovers roll was the bomb. read more

Kodo is my favorite sushi restaurant in the valley. We were excited to see a new location a little closer to us. The interior is very hip and spacious! We went this time for my birthday and ordered the 5 nigiri + sashimi combo, chirashi bowl, and omakase. Everything was so delicious, generous slices of fish, all fresh. Service was kind as always. Another new sushi joint in the area. I love it! The ambiance was great. Good music in the background. Several TVs for news and sports. Great for night out with friends or even date night. The service was great. Staff were all very attentive and helpful. Timely with ordering and circling back to see if I had questions and checking in to see how things were. I'd definitely come back here. They have a great menu. Average priced for sushi. Their toro nigiri was absolutely my favorite! I also loved the kodo roll. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other menu items. read more
This Kodo just opened up and it's officially a weekly spot for us, after tonight. All the rolls are made in this purple rice that's really good. The sushi chefs are surprisingly fast. The rolls are both delicious and not nearly as pricy as I'd expected. The service was air-tight too. Everything flew out, everything was seamlessly handled by like 8 different people who all seemed to be coordinated by bill belichick. They even gave us a complimentary appetizer. Wow. Everything about this place rules. read more
