The sushi chefs are absolutely phenomenal, and we've never had anything that wasn't delicious. Also Jenny is a sweetheart! The way the items were displayed on the platter and the order in which they were served was also within the protocols of sushi/sashimi dishes. The food itself tasted exquisite, and the freshness was uncompromising. The serving staff was attentive and friendly. Had lunch here for my son's birthday lunch. There are lots of great options on the menu and unlike some sushi spots, this one mixed things up so that I didn't feel like it was the same roll over and over with only one ingredient change. Service was fast and presentation was nice. While the rolls are expensive like most sushi places, the lunch specials (Mon-Fri, 11 am - 2 pm) provided great, budget-friendly options: Two rolls + 2 pieces of Nigeri or 3 pieces of Gyoza or a seaweed salad + Miso soup, all for $12-$17 depending on your combo. The only negative would be the lack of cooked sushi options like a baked scallop roll, baked salmon roll or baked langostino lobster roll. These are usually delicious and a go-to for me. read more

First time at Kodo tonight! Was surprised when I stepped in. It's nice and spacious with a really long bar with lots of sushi chefs. We were greeted immediately and sat down quickly. The menu has so much to choose from and everything sounds so delicious. Thank goodness for our fabulous server, Jeff. He was attentive, patient and super friendly. He helped us navigate the menu (some of us have diet restrictions) and made suggestions which we all loved! The miso soup came out piping hot and perfect. The crazy roll was delicious as was the chicken katsu and the peppers. Can't wait to have another wonderful meal here. Service was super great but I honestly didn't care for the food. It is a strict sushi bar and you can't order anything else other than the katsu chicken which comes with a little rice and a couple gyoza. The veggie tempura and spring rolls were good but tiny portions. My husband loved the kodo and Havana rolls- I had one piece of each and was not impressed. I'm super picky with my sushi. The ambiance was inviting, bathrooms were dirty. I don't think I'll be back. To reiterate- the service was top notch! read more

Especially the tuna which was red and had great color, and the texture was equally delicious. Was a great cut which was totally akami with no stringy texture. That is a mark of great tuna! Stopped in an hour before close, as my friend and I were going to see a movie at Harkins right next store. We were promptly seated and given menus where you check which items you would like. Interior is very nice inside, with plenty of tables with a a little dim lighting, which we loved. Ordered our drinks, 'sake colada' was sweet while the 'matcha mojito' was refreshing! Our server was very friendly and attentive throughout the whole experience. As well as the rest of the staff who helped deliver our food & give us our togo boxes. Once we ordered, our food came out very quickly. The tempura was crispy, the gyoza were filled with delicious flavors, and the sushi was fresh! We were seated immediately and our serve was okay, just did her job and checked on usj to see how we were doing. Since the last time we were here, I ordered the same thing just to see how consistent they were. I had the Chirashi and Salmon Skin hand roll. The Chirashi was up to par just love the different types of raw fish, purple sushi rice topped with Furikake, and two types of roe: salmon and flying fish. Was unimpressed. Got a poke bowl to go. The portion size was on the smaller side with half the bowl just green salad. But that would have been fine if the fish was good. Hard to tell because it was so spicy couldn't taste anything and lips are burning 20 min layer. I like spicy tuna well enough and have a decent spice tolerance, but this was on another level. What a sad meal. When I took my order out of the take out bag my food was delivered in, I could immediately tell that the salmon skin was going to be awful. It looked dry and bland and when I tried it, those ideas were confirmed. Some of the worst salmon skin I have ever had. The sashimi that I got (sampler & salmon) were fine, albeit a little bland. Kind of tasted like nothing. My hamachi collar was thick and juicy but something just tasted OFF with it. I kind of felt nauseated while eating it. I honestly don't believe it even was hamachi (I could be wrong but I have had so many hamachi collars in my life that I can tell the difference). Over all this experience sucked. And the worst part is that it was VERY pricy. I definitely feel like I threw away money however I'm on the hunt for my go-to sushi spot, so I guess I sort of "had to" try. read more

So my wife and I went to this sushi spot looking for a good time together and a meal to match. So happy this location opened near by! I enjoyed a cup of miso soup before the sushi rolls. My mom and I ordered the Havana roll (this one is spicy I was taken back by the kick), blue ocean roll, albacore roll, and a salmon avocado roll. I love that their rice is purple. We tried three different rolls, the squid salad and the miso soup. Everything was excellent. The sushi was melt in your mouth quality. The rolls were tight and full of goodness- very minimal rice. We were provided a gift if spicy tuna that was awesome - tender, flavorful and beautifully presented. The staff was gracious and quick. There were three people rolling and plenty of servers. The menu are complete write in like ordering sushi. I also tried the Appletini which was very good with a very nice aroma of green apple. There is a full regular bar, a sit down sushi bar, and a dining area. The hosted greeted us with a smile and we were permitted to choose our seat. We will be back. This place is probably my favorite sushi restaurant. I often tell people I found the best sushi and it's in the desert! Every time we visit our son in Phoenix we make a trip here. We've eaten at both this location and the Scottsdale one. Both restaurants have great, fresh sushi and fantastic service. Unfortunately, we eat the sushi so quickly I keep forgetting to take pictures, so don't have many. But two items we really like and get every time: the Ahi Tower and Salmon.com. Both are fantastic, really, really good. But, if you just get some of the basics, like a Rainbow or California roll, those are awesome as well. One thing we really like is the purple rice they use - just gives a unique twist. And again on the servers, very friendly, attentive, and quick. Whether it's taking sushi orders, clearing plates, or refilling water, they are on it. Again, really my favorite (or for sure top 2 or 3) sushi restaurant and always a must visit for us. The next strange thing, was our Sushi order came out super fast.. like way too fast! All at once! I'm assuming they must pre make the rolls and have them ready to go... in fact, that's my next mention of disappointment, they did not taste fresh, definitely reminded me of the rolls you get in the grocery store.
