Another fantastic lunch date with my wife and our talented friends. We originally planned on bento boxes, which are a delicious healthy value! Then we spotted the incredibly beautiful fresh bluefin that had just arrived. We enjoyed that and yellowtail sashimi. Then two orders each of yellowtail and salmon sushi, and their fried baby octopus. Each bite seemingly was better than the last (which is among why we so enjoy ourselves here!). We also ordered a bowl of edamame, just enough crunchy salty goodness. Sit at the sushi bar and ask every question you have. Try new things based on the chef's recommendation and your palate. Often frequent diners are seated solo; no reason not to. So great having such wonderful food, service and the experience at Hiro. And don't forget the chefs' tip jar in return for their skill and hospitality. read more

Have done high-end sushi omakase in Tokyo, and eaten across Japan - Hiro is the closest thing to the real deal you'll get to authentic japanese in AZ. Not quite as salty as traditional japanese, but great flavors, fresh food, and actual nigiri you won't get in cookie-cutter casual spots. Love the atmosphere, and the staff is incredible, friendly and remembers regulars. We come here about once a month and literally never disappoints. Would love even more japanese whiskies, but otherwise I couldn't love this place more. read more

I know I'm in the minority here because Hiro Sushi is clearly a beloved Scottsdale institution, but after finally trying it for the first time, I left feeling like it just wasn't for me. I stopped in at 5 p.m. sharp on a Thursday, and there was already a line out the door. That said, getting a table for one wasn't a problem. The atmosphere is definitely rambunctious. It was extremely loud and energetic, although no one was being disorderly. Personally, I found it unpleasant. I ordered a spider roll, which is a longtime favorite of mine across different states and restaurants. Unfortunately, Hiro's version didn't work for me. It came with a mayonnaise-style sauce that wasn't listed on the menu, and I've never encountered that preparation on a spider roll before. The pieces were also unusually large and awkward to eat. I would have preferred more moderate, bite-sized portions. I also found the pricing to be on the high side compared with other sushi spots; that applied across the board, from appetizers to rolls. I'm glad I finally gave Hiro Sushi a try. It just wasn't a match for my personal preferences. Three stars for me, but clearly a Scottsdale favorite for many. read more

Best sushi in Scottsdale! The service was very fast, food came out quickly with no errors, and the overall vibe of the restaurant is super fun. I recommend the Katsu Chicken and the Teriyaki Beef. Will be back soon! read more

The best sushi in AZ hands down. The negi toro roll is my favorite and they don't skimp out on the amount of tuna they give you. All of the sashimi is so fresh and melts in your mouth. Get the jalapeño yellowtail sashimi if you like a bit of heat. Service was great just you may need to wait a bit so call ahead to see what the wait looks like. Super cute small sushi bar, there maybe 10 tables in there max but very much worth the wait. 10/10. read more

When I would tell my husband that I loved sushi he would always say "Just wait until I take you to Hiro" and I can say without a doubt that it was absolutely worth the wait. Phenomenal atmosphere, kind service and the most delicious and fresh fish you can find this far from the ocean. 10/10 fine dining experience! read more

Really good quality sushi at fair pricing. Great service. I love the casual vibe. I highly reccomend their crispy rice tuna and the Toro roll! read more

One of our family friends recommended this sushi spot and they were spot on. The location is nothing fancy but inside the restaurant is cozy and inviting. They tend to get busy so check in on Yelp and get on the waitlist. We were seated fairly quickly and the sushi chef was able to provide his recommendations and also advise on what would be good to try according to our tastes. We had the Las Vegas Roll, Spider Roll, Lollipop and volcano as an appetizer. Out of all everything that we ordered, the Volcano and Spider Roll were the tastiest. The lollipop was wrapped in cucumber and it's an acquired taste. The Las Vegas roll was our least favorite. The fish in the rolls was fresh and didn't have any fishy aftertaste. The sushi restaurant didn't disappoint and would satisfy your craving for some delicious sushi. The only thing I'd say could change was the menu to have some sort of visual representation of what the rolls look like. read more

We loved our experience here at the sushi bar. This is some of the best sushi we've had in Scottsdale apart from uchi, Nobu, and Shinbay. The staff was lovely as well. Highly recommend. read more

Delicious, Authentic & quaint sushi house. Consistently great sushi, seaweed salad & miso soup. No hype. Wonderful service to match.

Best sushi in town, consistently fabulous. Worth the wait when you get there. Their fish is so fresh, incredibly delicious!! Melts in your mouth. My Favorite is Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna!! Hiro is a legend!! read more

Date night! Our second time here and this place is still amazing! We were seated at the bar this time and we got to watch the chefs make all of the sushi. This place is always busy and rightfully so! The waitresses were attentive and the food came as it was ready. We were brave and decided to try their Wagyu sushi and it just melted in our mouths. It was such a cool experience! I wanted to try the cold soba dipping noodles. The sauce was great and the noodles didn't stick to each other so dipping them was easy. Then my boyfriend got the bento box dinner and this was so worth it! You get to choose two protein and then it comes with miso soup and a small house salad, rice and seaweed salad. To finish off the night we both got a sushi roll and they were just perfection. We can't wait to go back! read more

Hiro Sushi Salmon Roll is a small portion of salmon but a good tasting order. Caterpillar Roll this is so precise, the caterpillar has antennas and eyes, very creative and fun Spider Roll very well made with a good amount of soft shell crab, this is the real deal. Teriyaki Dinner good generous amount of teriyaki chicken (all white meat), a little lite on the Teriyaki Sauce, but a good meal Teriyaki Appetizer is a lighter version of the dinner and is by itself, no rice or condiments, good size also. Top quality ingredients, fish, sushi. A big thumbs up read more

We sat at the sushi bar, which was a mistake because they were four of us and it's very difficult to talk. It was a little bit loud in there and even though we were on a 135° angle the two people on the ends really could not chat at all. Much better to get a four top table. We started with tempura battered shrimp and fried calamari. The tempura shrimp were crazy expensive I think six dollars per shrimp and they were tasty but not worth that much money. We got them at Kodo sushi (eight dollars for four shrimp -amuch better deal) the calamari were sitting in a bowl with a ponzu dipping sauce underneath. It was a very weird presentation and made the bottom calamari soggy. They should just have them on a plate with a dipping sauce on the side. The California rolls were fresh and fine nothing spectacular, the Toro rolls were strange because the Toro was all smashed up and jiggly in texture. It was not appetizing, even though it tasted fine. The crispy rice with spicy tuna on top was probably the best roll of the evening fairly classic although it might've been slightly too large a piece of crispy rice to eat comfortably in one mouthful. The Shishito peppers were very good with a nice crunchy topping and the takoyaki were creamy and flavorful. We probably won't return because we really like Kodo sushi better, much better pricing and a better atmosphere. read more

Small, packed, and no reservations, but still one of the go-to sushi spots in town We squeezed into Hiro Sushi for dinner (literally, tables are that close ). The sushi was fresh overall, though the uni wasn't quite what we hoped for. But the bluefin tuna and toro nigiri was amazing. They open at 5 PM and there's already a line by then, so go early if you don't want to wait. It's not fancy, not spacious, but if you're here for quality sushi and quick service, this spot delivers. read more

Got lucky with a spot at the bar since it can be a wait to get in. The chefs were super friendly, and the sushi itself was absolutely delicious. We came after a day of hockey tournaments. We had a short wait as to be expected on a Saturday night. It was much quicker than told. Keiko was our waitress and she was wonderful from the very beginning- even giving her recommendations per my husbands request, which he ordered and loved. We had so many great things: the vegetable tempura - very fresh, the sauvy b - great, the toro - 10/10. We will definitely be back! read more

Not really anything you can do with today's economy and the food tastes low quality for a higher price I was disappointed when I read such high reviews... The service was underwhelming nothing bad but not anything that would make me praise it but the place was packed so maybe that was the reason. The Ambiance was the only good thing about the place. Regardless I made my choice and went to this place and didn't leave even when the wait went on longer than I was informed and still bought food and a drink even after seeing the price. To simplify the food was bland the service was blander and the Ambience at least made it a good conversation environment. read more

Decent sushi spot. Service was quick. Place is cozy and small. Nothing really wowed me here. Probably would not come again.

Super fresh sushi, great prices, and lightning-fast service! The fish was melt-in-your-mouth good, and the rolls were creative and delicious. No long waits, super friendly staff , perfect for a casual dinner. A hidden gem for sushi lovers! The edamame was a bit oily but the garlic was legit. The scallop roll was crispy delicious and the spicy crispy tuna was my favorite! read more

The food here is really good! I ordered the sushi dinner ($28) and thought it was well worth it. It came with miso soup, salad, a tuna roll, and 8 pieces of sushi. The sushi was fresh and tasted like it was good quality. We arrived a few minutes before open at 5 pm and we were seated right when it opened. If you come at 4:40 you can put your name on the waitlist early. If you come with a group larger than 2 people I recommend doing that. read more

We came here on a recommendation from a close friend. It is probably some of the best sushi we've had in the valley. All of the sushi is fresh flown in daily and the Chef studied in Japan to hone his craft. The bluefin tune nigiri was to die for and all of the rolls were delicious and not too overpowering I would recommend making a reservation if possible or showing up right when they open at 5pm. They are a small restaurant and it can fill up fast. read more

Delicious, fresh and a great value. Really inventive rolls, including the delicious lollipop served with a wonderful miso sauce.

There's no better place for sushi in Scottsdale than what Ricky and his team offer at Hiro Sushi. The place gets busy from opening till close, so at times you might be facing a wait time for up to an hour. Don't let that scare you away though, it is well worth the wait.
