If you are looking for amazing food you need to travel to Scottsdale! This restaurant gives you top notch "the wow" for beautiful presentation, flavor and amazing service! Our server Dillion was amazing! His recommendations really hit the spot! We had sushi, noodles and mahi mahi tacos. The appetizers to start were pomegranate guacamole and street corn. I will definitely be back to try more of their amazing menu! The ambience when you walk in is so beautiful. I loved the tree in the middle of restaurant and really cool decor! And to end the night as a birthday celebration I had their tres leches cake! 10/10!

The street corn here was delicious. We had a taco trio (it was mediocre ). The edamame is well flavored with a little bit of spice and we had a sushi roll. The Margarita was pretty tasty. Overall the food was actually really pretty good. Service was great. It gets very busy. Fantastic really cool looking venue. It's just overpriced for the portion size and the quantity of the food you get.

2nd time here for brunch and took my fiancé (his first time) and we had a great experience but come hungry! Our waitress was fantastic. She offered us "SAMPLES" of every starter--when you hear the word "sample" you think smaller portions. We said--sure let's do it. Well... It was a plate of everything and it sent us into another universe. We both don't like to waste food so we did our best to not leave too much over and we had to tap out missing a few plates of starters and desserts. We did at least take bites of our entrees but had so much regret trying to keep up with the starters. Best starter for the fiancé was the sumo rangoons and for me it was the pancake street tacos. The bacon and eggs were definitely an honorable mention. The tres leches oatmeal was decent but should have been served more warm I wish the waitress had used better verbiage when stating samples and trying one of each--we thought single serving samples to get a feel--ya know. We were so full we just took bites of our entrees and wasted so much food This would be best with a group to feel better about sampling all the food.

I'm gonna start with the pro tip for Sumomaya: when you enter, the hostess station is right in front of you. The bathroom is to the left of the hostess station. We had a dinner reservation at Sumomaya and were seated at the first booth on the right, in the main restaurant space. Great corner view of the entire restaurant, which I took a lovely tour of while looking for the bathroom. Its not obvious that it's back towards the entrance. Despite this being a QR Code menu restaurant (I am not a slave to my phone, I detest this), we had fantastic service and the food was good. Happiest Ending roll was meh, guacamole and round chips were ok, but the surprise hit was the okonomiyaki style peppers. The Mexican street corn off the cob was also quite good. The service was top notch. Thoughtful, observant, and food was brought out quickly. There was a live DJ Saturday night curating vibes. I didn't find out if the tree in the middle was real but we do love a tree in a restaurant. We saw dates, girl groups, work groups. Twas a good time for all!

Just went to SumoMaya for a late night bite with a friend and it was such a cool spot. For context, we went on a Tuesday night at 8:30pm and there was hardly anyone here which is wild because I've come here on a Saturday morning and it was jam packed from front to back. We were day immediately and our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. We ordered the Dan Dan Noodles and a the Korean Beef Tacos. Both played were packed with flavors and were so fresh. The ambiance is the best part of going here, they had great mood lighting, beautiful art fixtures and beautiful windows. This spot is perfect for a date night!

If you're looking for your next date spot in Scottsdale, you need to go to SumoMaya! The vibes & aesthetic here set the mood & the lighting is incredible. The service is speedy & gives great recommendations! Mexican Asian Fusion is great because regardless of what your order, you're going to get something delicious! If you're a matcha or lychee fan you need to get the Match-A Date! The paella has a great variety of seafood in it & the layers of flavors in the Achiote chicken are spot on; some smokiness, spice and a touch of sweetness! Add it to your list for Scottsdale next time you're there!

I just don't understand the hype around this place. I've been here multiple times for brunch and dinner and it's just not my thing. I've tried almost everything on their brunch menu and I have never been able to find something I like. Yes, I eat it but never finish the dish because the combinations are just weird in my opinion. I get it's supposed to be a fusion restaurant but the Asian and Mexican flavors just don't couple each other very well. The option for all you can eat brunch for $45 or so is a great idea and I do love that option! I just wish the food was better! The most recent time I went the server was not personable and acted like we were bothering her when we asked about recommendations.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to! Can't believe I havent reviewed it yet! I am a big fan of their brunch! But today's visit was for dinner with a friend. We made reservations because it gets busy but for a weeknight, it was not too busy. We had a variety of items...the rock shrimp, the pork tacos, the dan dan noodles and the kimchi fried rice. All were excellent! Definitely go soon, especially for brunch!

    Crispy Rock Shrimp

A very nice restaurant with some hard to pass details: draconian rules on reservations, no splitting of the bill, menu access only by phone, noisy and not enough lightning. Food is excellent and very creative with an interesting "fusion" in every dishes! Perfect service: Rachelle our waiter was professional and attentive to our needs, thank you!

Best. Paella. Ever. Part of a large group and was not expecting how high quality the experience was seated quickly, had great, attentive service and all of the appetizers were perfectly cooked and flavorful but the real treat was my choice for entree. Get the paella if you have ever been disappointed by bland Paella in any other restaurant. The mix of flavors and the pleasant surprise of chorizo mixes with the seafood and rice to make a great dish.

First time trying Bottomless Brunch! You get a choice of one entree per person and then you get unlimited appetizers! My favorite appetizer was probably the yogurt. I ordered Dan Dan Noodles as the entree and it wasn't my favorite. I would say that the appetizers might be better than the entree.

The service was excellent, and the décor leaned more toward a romantic atmosphere than a family-oriented one making it ideal for a date night or anniversary celebration. For our visit, however, that ambiance didn't quite fit since we dined with friends. The food was good, though not exceptional given the elegance of the restaurant, and the pricing didn't seem to fully align with what we ordered. We've experienced stronger sushi offerings at other spots throughout the valley. That said, our waitress was outstanding and truly attentive, which we greatly appreciated and reflected in how we took care of her. I would recommend incorporating more creativity into the menu. Our friends, who are former restaurant owners, shared insights that closely aligned with our impressions. I wouldn't rule out returning--another visit is certainly warranted, ideally for a date night.

This is one of the best places in town for bottomless brunch. For $45, your group gets unlimited appetizers and unlimited desserts and one entrée per person. For an additional $35, each person can opt in for bottomless drinks (once you pick one, you can't switch to another, but each person can pick their desired drink - for example, only mimosas or only bloody Mary's, etc.). They do give you a time limit, but it's more than enough time to get your fill. While I'm not a huge fan of the food, I do enjoy their pomegranate guacamole, sumo rangoons, and liquid cheesecake. I primarily come here for the vibes and drinks. Our waitress this time was very friendly and came back ample times to refill our drinks and take our food orders.

    Yes

When does their late night happy hour start and end?

It has turned into a nightclub with food...

Do you have to make reservations or can you just walk in?

It's a very popular restaurant- reservations are a good idea, if not - there is quite a number of open indoor bar seating.

Has anyone ordered the fcuk it roll? How was it? Was it worth it?

Yes and fcuk no not worth it

What dress code (for a female) would you suggest for a dinner on Valentine's Day?

You can definitely dress up for SumoMaya in general, but for V day you can dress up even more if you like. You can easily do cocktail or even a simple gown. There are no rules for V-day.

Do they offer a kids menu?

No, they don't but they mainly serve tapa style menu. So the portion sizes are super small.

My girlfriend is a vegan and I am on the keto diet - are there options for us?

Lots of Vegan. The restaurant is accommodating to dietary restrictions

What is the atmosphere like? Is it too loud if I want to go out to dinner with friends and catch up? Is there a noise difference between the inside and outside?

We went with a small group of people; while the place is packed, we didn't find we had to yell at one another to have a conversation. I would imagine, if you sat closer to the bar area, it might be a little louder, as the space is more condensed.… Read more

Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

I found a spot in the surface lot right across the street from one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in town. Ambiance (4/5): The Mission is a nice restaurant. There's a small patio in front and a large patio out back. Sit at the outdoor patio if you can pull it off. Inside is great too, and there's nice artwork both inside and outside. The only issue? It's a popular restaurant and they try to pack in as many people as possible so space is at a premium. That also means that if you come at a peak hour, like we did, it's going to be pretty loud. Service (4/5): There was a wait when we arrived and the bar was full (first come, first served). Luckily, a group was leaving right when I lingered by the bar and we were able to snag the seats. The bartender did a pretty good job taking care of us. There was room for improvement as far as her efficiency and checking in, but overall, given how busy the restaurant was, pretty good. Drinks (4.5/5): The Mission has an interesting cocktail list. As you'd expect, it's tequila-focused but there's a good variety. You'll find creative cocktails which is always big in my book. Plus margaritas like prickly pear margaritas. I went with the correndo na chuva which has cachaca, passion fruit, lemongrass, sherry, and lime juice. Cachaca is a Brazilian liqueur which you don't see in many places so this was a treat. It was a refreshing cocktail. Lots of spicy cocktails are available, too. Food (4/5): While the brunch menu is pretty extensive, I think there's a clear winner: the all-you can eat whole roasted pig out. For $19, and only on Saturdays and Sundays during brunch, it's a steal of a deal. You get pineapple roasted shoulder and pork belly carnitas tacos served with your choice of one of five sauces. There's a little buffet stand where a member of their staff will make the tacos for you. I had about 10 of them and they hit the spot! Nice variety of sauces so I tried all of them except for one (two spicy for my blood) and you can request flour tortillas if you prefer that over the corn tortillas they have. Between the two proteins, I thought the pork shoulder was more flavorful and tender. It's no surprise that The Mission Old Town has some of the most Yelp reviews in town. It's a popular restaurant. Just make sure to make a reservation or stop by outside of peak hours or there's a good chance you'll have a wait.
