I'm not sure if these items were only for restaurant week which is sad because everything was absolutely delicious. Our server Marina was amazing and took such great care of us, the whole staff actually! I loved the ambiance of the structure of the place, how big our table was, the lighting, vibes. Restaurant week was nicely priced and I would definitely want to try more options off the menu. 10/10 experience

I've never been to an omakase experience before, and I'm so glad this was my first! My sister and I did the happy hour omakase which I believe was a great deal. It's $120 for 2 and you get 8 rounds of different things. I also let them know I'm pescatarian and they were very accommodating and replaced a pork dish with a fish one for me. We were worried the omakase wouldn't be filling, so we ordered a few extra things, but I think the omakase is honestly more than enough. The only extra thing worth ordering is the mushroom rice. Soooo good! I'm not sure what was the replacement for the pork dish, but at the end they gave us a white fish that was amazing with the mushroom rice! Overall, there wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy and every server was so kind! I absolutely will come back.

We took our out-of-town guest to Uchi and it was all of our first time visiting. The menu can feel a little intimidating at first, but our waitress made it easy by recommending the tasting menu. She asked about our budget per person, our preferences, and was very accommodating of our guest's gluten allergy. Every dish that came out was incredible from the nigiri to the sushi and the drinks were just as impressive. The atmosphere was perfect too: not too loud, so we could actually enjoy conversation. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel seamless. We'll definitely be back.

Just make the reservation. Trust me! The amount of detail that has gone into every single bite was chef's kiss! No complaints! We got seated at the bar during happy hour (everyday 4-6). They offer omakase which was 8 courses for $60pp (if I remembered correctly) and it was so worth it! The beef on the hot stone was divine! They also gave us some pudding/tapioca desert and I'm still thinking about it to this day! 10/10 experience!!

Desiree and Nick area always such wonderful warm faces! It had been too long since I'd been back so such a treat! Introduced a friend to Uchi last night and she loved it, of course! The hot last night was the otoro+caviar nigiri off happy hour! Not to mention the mocktails! The new nonalcoholic bubbly was so good and Desiree made me an outstanding Zero Spritz drink that was so tasty! Had yuzu and zest! Incredible experience all around as always!

Uchi looks great on paper , beautiful decor, nice staff and interesting menu. But I wasn't super impressed with flavors. My expectations were high and Uchi fell a little short. Presentation of the dishes was great. My biggest complaint is the squash was sooo salty in the crispy rice dish. The rest of the dish was trying to compensate with its lack of flavor but the salt overpowered everything. The salmon sake hand roll was ok. Coming from Seattle, I have had way better sushi. The salmon had a strange texture/taste to me. Sakara tempura was nice. The small pieces of pearl onion was my favorite part, wish there was more of them. Spicy ponzu was not spicy at all. Fish pieces had nice texture but flavorless.

Spectacular from start to finish! My friend and I came in and did the Somakase (which is a server-curated Omakase, something every restaurant should have IMHO) and after a few questions to tailor it to our preferences we were off! We tried a wide variety of things, my favorites were definitely the nigiri, the walu walu and our dessert. The only downside is that I don't know what we actually ordered, but I cannot wait to return!

We came during happy hour and stayed through the golden hour on a warm Monday evening -- what a lovely experience it was! The venue is cozy and tastefully designed. We especially love dining outside when the weather is nice though. When we arrived, we were seated on the patio immediately, but if you want to be inside/are visiting during rush hour, make sure you've reserved a table ahead of time, otherwise you may be in for a wait. The food is high quality and heavily inspired by Japanese cuisine, so instead of relying on salt for seasoning, the dishes rely more on umami created by the natural flavors of its ingredients. For those who find that bland, you may enjoy something with more sauce. Bluefin Otoro nigiri was very pricey, but very fresh. And our Kinoko nabe really stole the show with its balanced textures and complex flavor profile: aromatic, rich, and yet light at the same time. The servers are experienced with the house menu, so even if you are familiar with Japanese/Asian cuisines or have been to Uchi before, I recommend listening to your server as they introduce the options (menu items are always changing depending on the market availability). If you're not sure about portions or have any concerns like allergies, let your server know. The young man who took care of our table was cordial and knowledgeable, and we valued his perspective. He was spot on, as we loved everything we ordered! Ps. I will say, if you order the mochi donuts, they seem to be donuts that just use rice flour, which makes them a bit fluffier on the inside. But they don't have that QQ chewy texture like the mochi donuts sold by Mochinuts and other bakeries. However, paired with their caramel gelato and raspberry compote, the mini donuts were still a hit with us. Take that with a grain of salt!

I love uchi and have been several times at this point. We typically sit at the bar, and Kyle the bartender makes very food drinks. We typically order nigiri, my boyfriend likes the Uni varieties when available, I think from Santa Barbara and Japan. I love the toro with caviar. As well, I like the salmon belly, Wagyu, and sea bream as well. We love the crispy rice pot and to add the gyu steak. This is a staple for us and love to add eggs in the morning for breakfast with the left overs. They do have a great happy hour that offers a coursed meal, I think $120 for two people. We typically never make it at this time. As well, we like the Brussels sprouts, ham and eggs, fresh roll style sushi roll. I think the only thing I haven't cared for is the carpaccio on the menu. For dessert, we always get fried ice cream for either at the restaurant or the pint style to go (which we often keep in our freezer at home). Overall, we love this place. The service and food are always spot on.

I was SO SO SOOOOOOO excited to try Uchi Scottsdale after moving away from my local Uchi Miami location and insisted we make it a stop on our itinerary during a recent girls trip. We sat at the bar, ordered a bunch of a la carte items and one Omakase (for two) on HH. The Omakase is always a wonderful experience but felt very cooked fwd with dishes and there was one in particular that we actively disliked (the salmon balls). Overall, I loved it but was a tad disappointed. That on top of the bar service falling off quite a bit as the restaurant got bustling. I do have to point out that they got really busy REALLY fast but it was also VERY noticeable that they were having a hard time keeping up hence why I mention it here. Overall, its an absolute MUST DO when in town, as usual, I always recommend to go for HH and sit at the bar but of course it all depends on how you enjoy your experiences. GO GO GOO GOOOOOO

If you are in the neighborhood of Uchi Scottsdale, you have to make an effort to visit this great place. Lunch or dinner! First must make mention of the staff. Becca our server this visit was incredible. Extremely personable, knowledgable, and any other positive "able" one can think of. Her care and attention to detail was impressive throughout our entire stay while we grazed on delicious eats. Cliff was the host and had a warm delightful greeting. Best way to begin! Drew couldn't be more pleasant and helpful.(we weren't even in his section) Very genuine service from all! The atmosphere in the restaurant is beautiful. Warm honey colored wood sets the mood for an inviting visit. Coupled with tables having adequate space between them, makes for a terrific experience. We ordered the following: *Uchi lunch, with gem salad, temaki, and two chef's choice nigiri and crispy rice karaage chicken. Lots of incredible edibles! (Please see photo) * sushi omakase, with gem salad, temaki, hama chili, two chef's choice nigiri, three pieces chef's choice sashimi. Again, wonderful to graze upon. (Please see photo) Because I am a growing sideways boi : *Additionally ordered *Hamachi (yellowtail) *Hama kama Yellowtail Collar with red curry, piquillo pepper mostarda, trinity herbs! This was Phenom! WARNING!: see photo with caution as it is Amazing! Thank you as well to the kitchen staff providing spectacular cuisine with marvelous presentation! Altogether we had a delightful stay grazing slowly on the great food and drinks. *reservations not required but highly recommended *valet parking available *magnificent bar area As always, thank you for reading!

I just love this place. The bartenders were friendly and made great suggestions. As always the food was 10/10. I really like that the food runners tell you exactly what they are dropping off. As a vegan, this helps me know I'm not about to accidentally eat something I didn't intend to! The fried rice with mushrooms were out of this world. As always the dessert was top tier. Will be back!

I'm intending to write an "updated" review, but the Yelp app is buggy sometimes, so I'm not sure if it deleted my previous review. Either way-- it was 5 stars then, and it's 5 stars now. I've come to Uchi for an anniversary, birthday, happy hour, girls night, and most recently a couple times for lunch. Don't sleep on the Uchi lunch menu! It is possibly my favorite way to casually enjoy Uchi more regularly. Lunch is Friday to Sunday and it's the best entry point into the restaurant if you don't feel like spending a "high dollar" amount. I've done that too, and think it's worth it for sure on the dinner menu, but if you're looking for a way in to try Uchi, lunch is your gateway. There hasn't been any single item at Uchi that wasn't good, sushi wise. I once had an Earl Grey sorbet that I didn't care for but that's really it. For my visits so far, it has been shades of how good something is. Most recently in addition to some sushi, I decided to try the Uchi burger and ah-ma-gawd it's good. They use some Wagyu beef in the burger patty and you can taste the richness and juiciness. The fries that came with were stellar. And because I just ate a burger at a sushi restaurant, it seems to matter for foodies in order to demonstrate that a person has good sushi taste buds, yes I've been to Japan (twice) and I know good quality Japanese style food when I have it. Sushi street cred locked in lol ;) I really enjoy their cocktails too, they are well balanced and a steal on the lunch menu ($5,7,9 drinks). I've sat at sushi bar, patio, dining room tables, and the bar. Haven't had bad service yet. People are generally very nice and attentive. Even on the patio, where sometimes people get forgotten about. Uchi is doing a great job in my opinion and I'll definitely keep coming back-- probably at lunchtime.

They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. We were greeted warmly and chose a booth towards the right. I had noticed their lunch specials offered M-F 11-2pm so we both ordered from that menu. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

I also ordered salmon skin and here is where the star deduction came into play. The salmon skin was served to me the way I asked - no rice, no sauce, no vegetables - BUT, it was burnt. So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. He said the spicy tuna was good but the spicy salmon wasn't - it was as if the salmon quality that was used was poor.

The special was an assortment of various rolls assembled beautifully making each piece stand out. The first bite was divine and as we worked around the ring of rolls they got better and better. The sauces brought perfect harmony and complemented the fish. The sushi was incredibly fresh not having the fishy order lingering. The rolls melted in your mouth like butter leaving you satisfied. It was so good we placed a second order. Bela stopped by frequently checking on us and also telling us about the restaurant and the area and provided a friendly atmosphere that you do not often get in northern Midwest. The Spider Roll was very good except for the sauce on top that did not suite our palate but after removing the sauce it was fantastic. The Hot Mama Roll was also amazing. The flavors went well with the Yuki Mango Nigori Sake. We also tried some of their beers and spent a while catching up. Belas service was second to none and made this reunion fabulous. The sushi at Bei was better than 95% of our sushi restaurants in my state and the price was very good. They also have a cute cat robot that delivers food! Thank you Bela we hope to come back again on our next trip to Arizona to try more food.

I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

The corn tortilla was so small and on top was a layer of ribeye meat. Topped with pickled onion. That's all ! It came with two small tacos. Small enough to fit in a woman's palm. Crazy. There was no option for rice or beans. The sauce itself was not very good and overall I left hungry. I do not recommend this as your entree and is not really even good for sharing as an appetizer. I will still return but I not likely to go out of my way.

To celebrate our wedding anniversary my wife and I enjoyed lunch @ Sushi Sen in Scottsdale. The…read moreatmosphere inside/out had a relaxed and welcoming feeling. Not a huge space but it felt larger because of the high expansive ceilings. When we entered we were warmly greeted and seated. The menu was expansive so we were happy we previewed the menu at home. We both settled on the Bento Combination. You get to pick one item from each of the three categories (Sashimi, Sushi, and A la Carte). I selected the Sashimi - Maguro, Sushi - Spicy Hamachi, and À la carte - Chicken Katsu. My wife selected the Sashimi - Hamachi, Sushi - California Roll, and À la carte - Chicken Teriyaki. A delicious Miso soup accompanied the Bento Box, not too salty or heavy feeling. Our Bento Boxes came out relatively quick, the presentation was excellent, every item was fresh (sashimi melted in our mouths), and perfectly prepared. The portions were perfect (no leftovers and we didn't walk away hungry). The service was exactly as I had imagined it should be, welcoming, attentive, and courteous. Overall, I highly recommend Sushi Sen for the quality, service, and ambiance. Notes/Tips: you could easily miss this location as the only indication of its location is a sign posted high above on an archway (see one of my photos). Another well known dining venue is right next door, the "Alma" to help you with location. Parking is free and plentiful. The walk from the parking lot to the entrance is not too far.

This time, we ordered the sushi boat, chirashi bowl, uni nigiri, and o-toro nigiri. Everything was fresh and tasted amazing. The uni and o-toro were definitely our favorites. The chirashi bowl was also a favorite, yes, we have a lot of favorites here! The staff here are always nice and friendly, which is another reason we keep coming back.
