It was pretty busy and it was a little unclear who our server was ...we had to ask a few different people for things like water and soy sauce, and ordering felt a bit difficult at times. That being said, the food was delicious. Everything we tried was really, really good and the seafood tasted very fresh. It is definitely on the pricier side though -- even during happy hour, most items were around $15, and the rolls were still about $17, which felt pretty expensive for happy hour pricing. Finally checked out Starfish Scottsdale during AZ Restaurant Week and it did NOT disappoint! I started with happy hour cocktail (great happy hour menu by the way) and stayed for dinner because the vibe was too good to leave. Cute spot, great energy, amazing service, and every dish came out fresh and delicious. Only tiny note -- the General Star's Spicy Chicken was a little extra saucy for me, so next time I'd order it light sauce. Still super flavorful though! Always looking for new experiences, and I'm really glad Starfish opened in Mercado. They accommodated 8 of us for lunch with no reservations. The service was great and the staff was genuinely friendly. Our waiter gave us amazing tips and suggestions, and he was spot on. The drinks were excellent .I had the margarita and loved it. Just a heads‑up before ordering food :when they say spicy, they mean it, so order carefully. The kids' menu was a surprise in the best way. For the first time, it was actually hard to pick something for a 5‑year‑old because everything looked so good. Amazing atmosphere, valet parking, quick service. I have been to the Laguna beach location and now I prefer the Scottsdale location. By far one of the best bars I've been to in a while. Fresh hand made Tortillas came with the halibut. Kinda weird but I loved it. Thank god for those tortillas. The butterfly pea martini I posted is very good, and you can't taste the alcohol but all their drinks have a LOT of alcohol. So watch out. The imperial garden was strong but balanced. Piña tini is INSANE!!!!!! Top tier. I loved the espresso marini, it looks like it has a bunch of stuff in it, but don't be afraid, it tastes how it's supposed to taste, they don't do kettle one draft espresso martini like everyone else. The artwork, Southeast Asia inspired details, and big indoor/outdoor patio make the whole place feel fun and vibey. The food was GOOD good. Wow! Great food, great atmosphere and the staff seem genuinely happy and proud to be there. Their menu has a healthy amount of seafood but if you're not into that they have an equal amount of "land". I at first was a bit hesitant to order the sashimi as I'm not normally a fan of seaweed salad but they've changed my mind on seaweed salad. It not only has a wonderful texture, but the color is bright and it isn't very... seaweed-y (for lack of a better description) or soggy. It's a hint of the ocean in every bite, but it doesn't overpower the fish and it's even delicious the next day as leftovers. Their rice is the perfect amount of sticky and it's even more delicious when the juices from the Mongolian beef are in it! The Mongolian beef dish is savory and it has crisp veggies. The beef tastes fresh and it is not stringy. We also ordered the lemon chicken and pad Thai which were also so good! I didn't get pictures of them because I was too busy at that point enjoying my food. The prices are a bit higher, but the portions are quite generous and they gave me a generous amount of house sake as well! Perfect for a date night. Very disappointing meal. Decor is gorgeous. Service was good. Pot stickers were good. Rest of the food was not up to par. Pad thai had no flavor! Went for restaurant week and ordered. They didn't tell me there would be a $10 upcharge to get chicken (or more to have other protein added). No peanuts, no egg, minimal tamarind. No bean sprouts. How is it pad thai without all of that? Bleh. Took cheesecake home. It was nasty. Chunks of graham cracker that were soft, a mouse-y, tasteless cream cheese mixture. SO wanted to love this place. This site has failed multiple times, and it would be nice to have a place there that's not disappointing because it's in a prime location. My husband and I sat at the bar, drinks were good, and the staff were pleasant. We sat next to a vase full of rotting flowers, and the water in it had been sitting there for days. Not so pleasant. We ordered the sashimi, it was basic and lacked freshness, almost dry. We also got the Thai Spicy Beef with Basil which tasted battered and fried, we were hoping it'd be grilled. Also tried the miso black cod that had an overpowering fish smell, although the portion was big. I can't say we'll be back. Disappointed by the food here and the service needs a lot of help. Ambiance is nice which was the only good thing. We ordered several items, but the food quality was unacceptable. The shrimp lettuce wraps had hard shrimp shells in the first two bites and almost choked on them. The sea bass was also a major letdown and half inedible. Cooked to a dry hard mealy texture when being nicely presented as cooked in a banana leaf was a huge fail. The Korean steak skewers were also like shoe leather and inedible by our group. The service was just as lacking. Our table wasn't cleaned after soy and sauces were spilled all over the table and dirty plates were left sitting in front of us for quite a while without being changed out. For the restaurant and vibes they're going for, both the kitchen's execution, safety standards and the staff's attentiveness need to be drastically improved. read more

I'll admit it, I'm a self confessed foodie, so when I heard Starfish had finally opened in Scottsdale after making a name for itself in California, I had high expectations. Somehow, they still exceeded them. It honestly felt flawless from start to finish, like they've been part of the Scottsdale dining scene for years already. The staff was one of the standout parts of the experience. Friendly, knowledgeable, and constantly anticipating every need before we even had to ask. That level of hospitality is rare, especially for a brand new opening. Food wise, everything impressed, but the edamame and the lobster macadamia roll were absolute standouts. Fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented, exactly the kind of dishes you keep thinking about afterward. Oh and real crab wontons... stellar As a parent, I also have to mention the kids menu because you can immediately tell a mom had a hand in creating it. It wasn't the typical boring kid food lineup. It was thoughtful, elevated without being complicated, and filled with things kids will actually want to eat. And whatever you do, save room for dessert. The mango pudding was phenomenal, light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. But the banana wrapped in filo dough was completely out of this world. Crispy, warm, sweet perfection. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming very well designed Scottsdale has no shortage of restaurants, but Starfish already feels like a place that belongs here. When we arrived the hostess said no dogs. I told her we had a Service Animal. She took us out to the patio. I said I am not sitting outside. She stated that Service Animals were NOT Allowed!!! The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly from start to finish.
