I really enjoyed Sala Thai. My favorite dish was the Khao Soi. The chicken was extremely tender, the curry was flavorful, and the egg noodles were nice and crispy. My friend and I had dinner here on a Friday night. It's a small restaurant and it was full, so we put our name on the wait list and got a text confirmation when our table was ready. Only had to wait 13 minutes so not inconvenient. I ordered my go-to: drunken noodles with tofu, spice level 4/5 and an order of crab wontons. The appetizer was tasty and a nice balance to my spicy dish. I like the sweet and sour sauce that comes with it. My dish tasted great and was definitely spicy. Only thing was it seemed like a small serving, there was a lot of space on the plate. Service was friendly and efficient. Found this place on social media and glad I checked it out! The food here is pretty delicious! The papaya salad was refreshing and light. The skewers in the second dish were a bit chewy but the flavor was really good. I always love to order the stir fried glass noodles and this one was really tasty! Not sure if people usually use teriyaki sauce in their glass noodle dish. I personally like it because the noodles were more flavorful in this combination. Sala Thai may be our new favorite Thai place! The online ordering wasn't working (maybe because it was within an hour of closing) so we placed our order via phone. We ordered the chicken potstickers ($7 for 6), Pad Kee Mow with Beef ($16 +$2 extra for beef= $18), and Chicken Panang Curry ($17). We ordered the Pad Kee Mow and Curry at level 4 Spicy (Spice level 1-5 or Thai hot). The Chicken Potstickers were standard potstickers; not sure whether they are made in house or are frozen. They were on the crispier (almost burnt) side. The Chicken Panang Curry was on par with our favorite Thai place. Spice level 4 left a spicy aftertaste but it wasn't so spicy that it overpowered the taste. I think it was a good level! We were especially impressed with the Pad Kee Mow and the wok hay. The extra $2 on beef is worth it, as they use a nice, tenderized cut, higher quality than most! It did reheat a bit oily the next day, but still delicious! This place is truly a hidden gem. Stopped in for lunch on a Thursday at 12pm when they first open. The restaurant is small with cute decor. The restaurant filled up pretty fast right when they open. The Thai Fried Chicken was amazing, as was the khao soi (curried noodles) and the spicy basil leaves with fried egg. Our server made recommendations for us (at our request) and she did a great job in highlighting some of the awesome dishes here. This Thai restaurant is small and in a strip mall and you would never expect it to be the most amazing Thai food ever!! The Thai grilled beef salad is fantastic. The dressing is zingy and so fresh, even with the spice level of three it packs a little chili pepper punch. I really like the flavor of cilantro and lime, and the salad dressing is packed with both. My friend and I also shared Panang Curry with chicken. The sauce (not overly creamy) is slightly sweet and nutty. This came with some vegetables and a few large pieces of broccoli, all served with a side of white rice. I came here for my birthday today, and everything was honestly so good! I got the yellow curry and it was delicious -- super flavorful, and I loved that you can choose your spice level. I also got to try the papaya salad, which was really fresh and tasty; it didn't have that fishy flavor that some places can have. Warning: The seating area is very limited and close. There is a table for 6 in the middle amd seating for 8-10 on one wall and 8 on the other wall. The menu pictures are great and accurate representations of the dishes. The chef is a master as the food was fire. The dishes were aesthetically pleasing and delicious. I saw it had great reviews and can add my own. Service was great and the waitress did a great job. 2nd warning: The spice levels are accurate for Thai food. I usually order a 3 because if it is accurate, I am still ok. I can handle decent spice. Most places a 3 is mid, or not spicy. You also pay $.50 for Thai hot and I think you are brave or stupid because you will get burned twice. I had drunken noodles and appreciated that the vegetables were julienned and that there was not only large green peppers accompanying the noodles. The dish was delicious and cooked correctly. The others in the party ordered yellow curry, curry noodles, Pad Thai and chicken Satay. I got to try them but honestly, I was full from my own and just want an excuse to go back to try some street food dishes. We also ordered 3 orders of crispy roti and the coconut ice cream was incredible. I could have eaten a gallon of the ice cream alone. We were delightfully surprised with this great little Thai spot. It's small but ambience and motif is on point. We started with crab rangoon and the dipping sauce was chef's kiss! By far one of the best in the valley. My dish was the rice noodles with beef and veggies- pure heaven. Aromatic and savory it did not disappoint! Stopped by Sala Thai to try out their pad Thai. Having visited during the middle of the week, the restaurant was not busy. However, this location is definitely on the smaller side -- There's about 8 tables. Despite the restaurant being small, the service was quick, our food came out quick, and it was delicious. We ordered fresh shrimp spring rolls, chicken pad thai, and khao soi. The shrimp spring rolls were refreshing and the khao soi had amazing flavor. I'm surprised and confused I chose 4 stars. I literally eat here every week at least once. I love that they know our order. The food is always on point, I'd say better than any place I've tried in the area. I love the basil with egg- I used to do chicken but have been really into the pork lately. Sala Thai is a cute little restaurant - has probably less than 10 tables inside. My friend flew in to Sky Harbor and wanted to grab lunch and this place wasn't too far away. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines and this place did not disappoint!! They have lots of options including some street food options. Initially, I was looking for another restaurant in the area to dine at, but it was closed that day and we stumbled upon this one while looking around and decided to try it out! After looking over the menu, we decided to order the crispy garlic wings and moo ping with a side of sticky rice to start. For our main entrees, we decided to order a bunch of dishes to share so we could try more items. Those dishes being, the spicy E-San sausages, khao soi, and the suki haang. Our favorite of the three was the khao soi. Not only is their food aesthetically pleasing with adorable plates, but highly delicious too! They do not hold back on the flavors. We ordered all our main entrees at a spice level two, and it already had a nice kick to it. I would say the spice levels are accurate for Thai food, the table next to us ordered their food at a spice level four and they were sniffling and downing their water within the first few bites. Overall, the service was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated in neutral colors throughout, giving off a cozy, intimate and inviting vibe. Our friend recommended Sala as it's HIS number one spot so figured let's give this a shot and we are so glad we did. We usually get drunken noodle/pad Thai as one of our dishes we try at a new spot to gauge how good one of these basic dishes are and boy did they deliver on fresh tasting and not super oil heavy noodles. We also ordered he basil rice and it was also fresh with the zest of lemongrass and basil. My only comment on what could improve are portion sizes. We did feel like the portions were not that great especially for the price. But overall we would return because the food was tasty! Oof. I was really excited to find they had a Tempe location, as I love the Sala Thai in Phoenix, but this was not good. Maybe an off day. I ordered online and arrived to the restaurant to see it packed with a party. A literal party with a table of buffet food in the middle. They were having a good time! I had to weave through people to get to the counter to pickup my food. No problem - it was nice to see everyone having a good time! - but maybe this is why my food wasn't great. The beef salad is one of my favorite dishes in general and the one at the Phoenix location is so good! This one is inedible. I like some char on my meat, but each of the pieces of this are very burnt on one side, and it's all very tough. It didn't taste like it had any lime or fish sauce. Just burnt, bitter, gristly meat. The Pad Kee Mao was OK, nothing standout. It's a little wetter than my preference but that's fine. I asked for no green peppers and it had green peppers. It also has bean sprouts, which I don't care for and aren't listed on the menu. It came with a lemon, which I've never seen before. Sorta shocked to be writing this review based on the high ratings.... I've been eating Thai food for more than half my life and it's pretty hard to screw up honestly. But I will say, this fell short... Got a noodle dish, fried rice, veg&tofu dish, and fresh rolls. While the fresh rolls were decent and tofu and veg(although overcooked) were ok too, the standard Thai items of fried rice and noodles fell so terribly flat. The noodles seemed greasy(which is why I generally would choose Thai over Chinese-less grease!). Secondarily, and honestly most egregious was that the fried rice was so over cooked, and almost had a mush to it(didn't even seem fried). Such a bummer. I guess there isn't much more to say, but maybe give it a pass if you love high quality Thai! read more
