So excited that I finally made it back to Happpy Bao's as I have been craving for another taste of their Chinese vegetables and fried rice. The first time I checked it out their dumplings were super tasty, but it was something about those two dishes that made me want to come back asap. It took a a few months and a quick online order, but I finally made it back! I love that they have an easy way to order online and had a 20% off coupon. My food wasn't quite ready, so I hung out for a few minutes. I love the Mekong Market that Happy Baos is in. Such a great spot to get all kinds of Asian anad Asian fusion dishes! The fried rice and bok choy were absolutely amazing. Full of flavor and not too salty. I added a little red pepper for more heat, but otherwise it was great just the way it was. My boyfriend and I got the Xiao Long Bao, Chinese broccoli, and Beef chow fun. The XLB's was really good, full of umami and fatty flavor and was so delicious with the chili oil. The Beef chow fun was also really good but definitely needs some greens to go with it because it's heavy. We were seated right away and were asked a few times within minutes if we knew what we wanted to order. Are perusing the menu, we decided to share xiao long bao, the dumpling combo and bao combo. My wife ordered the Xiao Long Baos, I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup, and we shared the Chili Dumplings. I guess I always had the misinformed image of soup dumplings being gloppy, overfilled gyozas that would be messy and awkward to eat. I'm so glad I finally tried the Pork Sheng Jian Bao here. Not only are they delicious but I learned the proper way to eat a bao, and realized that it's not intimidating at all. Ordered the THai Iced tea because it's one of my favorite things and this is the BEST ONE EVER you can even taste the carmelized sugar, i love it so much, even my mom likes it and she doesn't usually like them. Wow! So much to say about Happy Bao's. One, so grateful to have had such amazing service both on the phone and in person when picking up my order. Alexis was so fast and helpful. The location is inside a market plaza with other restaurants and treats. An Asian market and little tables and booths with things for sale. The whole experience was actually very fun. As for this dish, being my first, but far from my last visit, I chose a staple knowing I would be writing this review. And wow, so so happy with my choice. I have heard of this place before and was so happy that Yelp had an elite event here! We ended up choosing the cucumber salad (#1), house dumplings (#8), pork dumplings (#18), and spicy beef noodle soup (#22). The cucumber salad was refreshing and delicious- the sesame oil really brought it together. We've tried a lot of cucumber salads and this one is definitely among the top 3. My personal favorite dumplings were the house dumplings, but my husband's were the pork dumplings! Both were good, but they weren't especially flavorful. The bottoms of the pork dumplings were a little gummy. The beef noodle soup is to DIE for! In fact I almost died because I choked on the broth. (To be fair I was guzzling it straight from the cup.) It would have been worth it if that was my last meal... We dipped everything we ordered into the flavorful broth! It was spicy but we could have done with even more spice! We came during a busy time; service was rushed. But it was understandable considering how busy it was. Our food was ready before they said it would be done! The restaurant is definitely very tiny. I have been here half a dozen times and have absolutely loved the food and highly raved about it. However this last time we went we ordered the Honey sauce ribs, Xiao long bao, and the Pork wonton noodles all of which i've had multiple times before. To start the ribs were slightly cold on the inside but still had good flavor so not that much of an issue. The pork wonton noodles' broth left much to be desired almost as if it had been made in a rush when previously its had a rich, and deep flavor. Unfortunately the Xiao long bao had a similar struggle with a less flavorful broth than before in addition to having a starchy taste so strong we could not even finish them. My girlfriend enjoyed her stir fry noodles, but she likes almost everything. I didn't taste it myself. I did like the Spicy Beef Noodles, which was pretty much the Vietnamese dish Bun Bo Hue. I love Bun Bo Hue and have my mom make me the dish every time I'm back in the Bay Area. The soup here was pretty on point besides throwing in some bok choy in it. Apparently I'm late to the game as this place gets packed due to the great food they serve.
