2/22/26: I've been going to Phoenix Palace for years, I can't believe I never reviewed it before. Damn. I've only ever partaken of their dim sum menu, and it is absolutely delicious. I've very picky about my food, but my sweet tooth loves their egg & custard tarts, their mochi w/ peanut, the rice porridge, the pineapple buns. Their rice noodles (pork, beef, shrimp) are great, as is the sticky rice, the steamed buns w/ BBQ beef, the spare ribs, spicy cucumbers. All of it is good. We usually have a crowd of four to six, sometimes more, when we visit so we always have a plethora of food on our table. The staff is always friendly and smiling, even if sometimes there's a language barrier. We point, they provide, and we always manage to have full bellies & great laughs at Phoenix Palace. This particular Saturday we had the opportunity (and surprise!) of enjoying a parade for Chinese New Year. Awesome! read more

Like others have said it seems very premade. Rice roll with shrimp had one of shrimp so you had a lot of rice roll to eat as a result. Got charged for tea but I didn't have any. I had read about the trick they pull. I was sorry to see that they were still doing it. Eggplant treasure was rolling around on a regular cart instead of a steam cart so the food was cold and shrimp filling was dried out. read more

We absolutely love Phoenix Palace. It's hands down our favorite cuisine spot in Mesa. The har gow (shrimp dumplings) and shu mea (shrimp and pork) are incredible, and the Chinese broccoli is always perfectly cooked. I also can't get enough of the lazy Susans--it's so fun to spin around and see all the options rolling past. If you've never experienced brunch at Phoenix Palace, you are truly missing out. It's an adventure: authentic, lively, and full of energy with the carts flowing all around you, loaded with all kinds of delicious bites. The staff is super friendly and always happy to help if there's something you don't see on the carts. Some of our other favorites are the salt and pepper shrimp, noodles, and shrimp egg rolls--the grease is absolutely worth it! It's been about a few months since my last visit for dim sum and decided to go yesterday again to revisit. I'm not sure what has changed but the food is definitely different. The shrimp dumplings (ha gow) is now wrapped in a thick dumpling wrapper rather than a thinner one. It tasted too pasty. Some of the food items came out luke warm. The variety is definitely a lot less than previous. It feels like they've purchased more items frozen rather than make them in house. I know this restaurant has struggled in recent years and the family is working hard to get business back. I want to continue to support hard working business owners so I hope they can find a way to relook at the food quality again. read more

To start with, we visited on a Monday (happened to be MLK holiday) at lunchtime. We thought it seems very busy and hopping, but later we realized they probably get busier at other times, hence the rather limited selection. My dining companion is gluten-free and neither one of us likes pork, so options were limited. We were served promptly and politely and got shrimp shu Mai, congee (which ended up disappointedly having pork in it, but there was a language barrier when the cart came around, so we didn't make a big thing of it). I also enjoyed the beef lo mein- so fabulous! A shame my dining companion couldn't try it. We did love the chrysanthemum tea! We were offered many more pork dishes, and buns/sweets that would have not worked for my friend. We patiently waited, hoping a vegetable or two might come around, but no. The same 3 carts with the same offerings kept coming around. The ambiance was nice, clearly popular with locals! I was visiting from out of town, which is what I'm assuming this. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty much only here for the dim sum. It's just the perfect thing for a weekend brunch. The wait for a table the last couple times I've been hasn't been crazy (watch me jinx it) but that doesn't mean this place isn't busy. The minute you're seated, all the carts head your way and you're well on your way to a table full of yummy dim sum - just the way it should be. It is a bit of a wild card how much each dish costs but there is a handy chart near the entrance of how much each type of dish (A, B, C, etc) runs. That said, that's the same at any dim sum joint. Love this place, plus it's right by Lee Lee's - can't ask for a better location than that! Also, their custard pineapple buns are to die for. read more

While searching for restaurants to try when visiting AZ, I came across Phoenix Palace. After seeing that recent reviews were quite good, we decided that we would give them a try. We were here on a Sunday for an early dinner. Upon entering, I noticed the decor and thought to myself "Old school Chinese restaurant", the type that's rarely seen anymore. The place wasn't busy at all. However, they do a lot of takeout business. A very nice lady who was also our server took us to our table. It was a round table with plenty of room to seat the six of us. Also, the perfect size for a large lazy Susan (as an aside---I never liked that name for it :O). It turns out that the lazy Susan was perfect for our table. There were no worries about trying to pass a plate of food, just spin the lazy Susan until it reached you. My husband and I had looked at the menu and wanted the Mandarin dinner for two . It comes with appetizers, hot and sour soup and a choice of 2 entrees. We both decided on Mongolian beef and shrimp with garlic sauce. Our grandsons and their Dad were thinking of ordering a la carte but the nice lady told them that the cheapest way to go was getting a preset dinner. They agreed to the Canton dinner which came with wonton soup, appetizers and a choice of entrees. They got two sweet and sour chicken dinners. One grandson insisted on ordering vegetable fried rice for himself. We really enjoyed the food. The Mongolian beef was the best I've ever had---tender beef with a hint of spice and lots of green onions. The hot and sour soup had lots of stock with the hot and the sour flavors quite noticeable. The appetizer portion had three different items in it---dumplings, egg rolls and crab puffs (which were similar to crab Rangoon). In the "family dinners", the soup comes in a large bowl with a ladle so one can take what one wants. There is one thing I must point out as the menu doesn't mention it---the wonton soup has shrimp in it. We found that out when the nice lady started to serve it to our son-in-law and we all piped up and said "He's allergic to shrimp". At the end of the meal, we were given dessert items. I don't know what they were called and the menu gave no clue. They were fried balls of some sort. Some had a paste-like filling while the other seemed to have some fruit in it. My husband really liked his shrimp with garlic. The grandkids and their Dad also liked what they ordered. The portions here are huge! We packed up the leftovers with the help of the nice lady. Our son-in-law and one of our grandsons both work in the same place and they had more than enough food for their work lunches the next day. We all agree that this one is a keeper and a return visit will be in order. read more

Sadly the bathrooms need renovations. Please if you are the owner PLEASE spend $$ to renovate your bathrooms. The hot mustard here only one lady makes it and she's so good at it. I highly recommend getting hot mustard. First time coming here today, and I was very impressed with both the food and service. The variety of dim sum is astounding and the service is very friendly and welcoming.. as soon as they opened at 10 AM, People started flocking in and the dining room was busy no time at all.. all the wait staff were very polite and eager to please. Didn't have to wait long at all and there were chairs at the entrance. As soon as we sat down we were asked what we wanted to drink and the carts promptly stopped by shortly after. The food was pretty good but admittedly it might be because we picked what we knew we would like such as chicken feet, shrimp shumai and pork ribs. The one thing we didn't quite like was the calamari since it seemed like there was too much breading but that's not normally something we'd order at dim sum so that's fine. The chicken has no taste at all and the meat is very cold, must sat at their refrigerator for days, it's the WORST chicken I've ever eaten in Arizona and CA. We went on a week day at 11:30. The place was fairly empty when we arrived but it was more full when we left. They have a few carts and they come around often. But we noticed that a number of the plates were only lukewarm. The baked char siu bao was excellent! (but room temperature) The steamed bao was okay but not as good. The siu mai and shrimp har gao were both hot and tasty. The look fun (long rice noodle) was only warm. I didn't care for the scallop har gao, but that might just be me. When my brother and his girlfriend asked if I was free to go to Dim Sum with them this afternoon, I was all in... It had been a long time since I've had Dim Sum and I had never been to this place before. While I didn't try everything (I just could not do the chicken feet or the cow stomach), I did enjoy *almost* everything I did try! My favorite dishes were the shrimp dumplings, shrimp/scallop dumplings, shrimp wide noodle, green beans and Chow Fun Beef. We also had seaweed salad which was a bit random for Dim Sum, I'm told, but it was good! And the egg tarts for dessert. After I was super full, I realized there were a few other dishes I would have liked to try... sticky rice with chicken and bok choy being a couple of them; I guess I'll just have to return for these next time. This is definitely a fun and delicious experience and I recommend it if you haven't been before or if you have a group of adventurous eaters. I will be back! read more

Came in with my pregnant belly to curb my dim sum craving. And this place satisfied it indeed. Walked in on a busy Sunday morning and was seated within minutes. This place runs very efficiently and I must say the ladies wheeling around the carts do give you the nostalgic-aggressive-dim-sum-cart-lady vibes but they are slightly gentler and a little less pushy than what I'm used to. The moment I sat down at my table a pot of tea and my soda came out within seconds (again, the speed of efficiency here!). Their dim sum overall was good. Not the best I've had obviously however, because of the friendly service I cannot go lower than 4 stars. I'm taking my banh bo and Chinese broccoli home to-go with me because I'm way too stuffed from the siu mai, hargow, turnip cake, shrimp cake, etc. I hope my baby in my tummy is happy cause I need a nap now! read more

We didn't do reservations just walked in with group of 6. The staff was fast to serve us Dim Sum even after arriving 2:44pm close to ending Dim Sum services. They made sure we had shrimp dumplings a group favorite chow mien noodles on time before dinner services started. Great staff, fast service and it was all team work on their part. We ending up being super happy with the meals full bellies and joyful hearts. I'd recommend the place. read more

Came here for lunch on Friday and I was surprised how quickly we were able to get a table around 12 pm. Service is always friendly, the ladies that pushes the dim sum carts around are always so nice. I was able to order a lot of the dishes I normally do and each dish is delicious. I will try my best to list the dish out on the pictures. My favorite is the chicken feet. It is so good! I have bought a roast duck and a couple pounds of char siu there a few days ago and it was awful. Whoever did their roast duck and char siu was not paying attention to the amount of salt they were using. It's inedible and I had to return it for a refund. The owner did not apologize or anything. For what they charged, I expect at least a "sorry" for my inconvenience. He was looking at the returned and just thought about how to sell it to the next customer. Five of us went for lunch. It was nice. If you're going for dim sum, it helps if you like and eat pork as most dishes offered had pork, seemed like 70%. About 20% had shrimp or fish. Also, it helps to know what you're getting, or that you're adventurous. I'm more the latter, however, some of my friends were neither. If you're like them, I would suggest you order off the menu. Terrible. I have never been to a restaurant before that charges one dollar per person seating charge. What that means is that if you come in with six people you will be charged an extra six dollars before you even order anything on top of that the food was terrible. Service was good. That's why I gave it two sauces but the food was really really terrible. I ordered one simple dish of egg foo young as an extra to my dim sum and I've never had egg foo young that was just bean sprouts with chicken on the side of it and vegetables on the side instead of being put into the patties as a past owner of a Chinese restaurant it was totally disgraceful, and I will tell all my friends to stay the hell away from this place read more

Come here for a traditional no fuss experience. Classic food and it gets the job done but nothing exceptional. The staff do their best and are quick and decor is what you'd expect. No complaints! My aunt has allergies and they were able to accommodate a sauceless meal for her. read more

Came here for the first time since we really wanted dim sum, and it did not disappoint. This place is the traditional dim sum restaurant where the dim sum rolls around on the cart and you choose what you want. The service is quick once you get seated, but you really have to pay attention and flag down the server if you're not seated near the aisles where they roll around. You can also order dishes if you want something specific and don't see them rolling around on the carts. The food was great, definitely won't be my last time here. read more

Not a cheap place to eat but that also depends on what you order. Just know bigger the plate more expensive . We've been coming here off and on for over ten years now. It's been our go-to place for dim sum on this side of the Valley. We've come for dim sum on both weekdays and weekends. Understandably, weekdays have less of a selection since it's drastically not as busy as weekends. However, on our most recent weekday visit, we found out their smaller selection got condensed even more. Previously, on past weekday visits, we were still able to get about seven to nine different items that we like. On our more recent visit, however, they only had about five items that we liked in their selection. If you're coming here for dim sum, I would only recommend coming on the weekend now instead of any day of the week, but make sure you come early so you can snag a table without having to wait for a long time for one to open up. Depending on how busy they are, service can be a hit or a miss. I will say though, that the taste of their food is average, yet consistent. read more
