The service was excellent, which can sometimes be hit or miss at small casual spots, and the ambience was nice. The broth and ingredients were flavorful, and I appreciated the sauces available at the table. The fire-broiled soup was aromatic without being overpowering. The food did take a little while to come out, and the broth was slightly gritty. Maybe possibly due to the soup I chose. I also noticed the bowls are shallow and packed with meat and vegetables, so there wasn't much actual soup. When I asked about it, I was told additional broth would be an extra charge, which was a bit disappointing. Pop offers another excellent option for hotpot, perfect for those cooler months. They also offer other Taiwanese appetizers for those that want something else. I also liked the option to add additional sides to add to the hotpot. As for me, their mixed pot of mushroom hotpot was perfect. It tasted healthy as there were ton of mushrooms with many varieties. I love Taiwanese street food! I know this restaurant has been around for a while, but what weighted heavily on me and stopped me from going sooner is that I had to overcome the smell of stinky tofu. Also, it was still 100 degrees when I visited, so I didn't order hotpot. My friend and I ended up ordering 3 small dishes and got to try a variety of fried dishes. After the meal, we both agreed that they should give more vegetables options to balance out the "yeet hay". Thankfully, the winter melon tea (1000% recommended!) cooled us down along the meal, and I didn't get a sore in my mouth after the meal. If you're like me, I would recommend showing up before the dinner rush (5ish), so less people are there and lower the chances of stinky tofu ordering (lol!). Love this place! Pop Pot and Tea serves super authentic Taiwanese snacks and comfort food. My go-tos are the popcorn chicken, tempura, stinky tofu, and of course, the Taiwanese hot pot. I came here once when they first open and was underwhelmed. But I recently came here again and had a better experience. I think the food and flavor has definitely improved. I got the Satay Beef Pot and my husband got the Korean Troops Pot. We both liked ours. And we also got the Mixed Fruit Tea and the Winter Melon Tea, which were good. I can't help but compare it to Tasty Pot though. Tasty Pot typically includes noodles in the pot, plus you get an additional vermicelli noodles or rice for free. My Satay Beef Pot at Pop Pot didn't have noodles already included, however my husband's soup has some ramen noodles included. It may just depend on which soup you get. At Tasty Pot, you're able to control the flame under your pot yourself. But at Pop Pot, you need to ask one of the servers to put out the flame. It's not a terrible inconvenience, but you do need to wait until you catch one of the server's attention. I've been a here a few times from their soft opening to a few months after their grand opening and about a year later. The parking lot was small but also shared with Lee Lee's Supermarket on the side. It was busy the first time here and on my latest visit, it wasn't busy on Friday at 6:15pm. It was bright inside so that was good. Their menu had a lot of pictures of the hot pot which was nice and they had the ingredients in each. There was also an appetizer section as well as the drink section. On the first visit, we had the Sukiyaki Pot, the Thai Style Hot Pot, Popcorn Chicken, Classic Milk Tea, and Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea. The Sukiyaki Pot was not bad and their broth was a little bit light in flavor to me. The Thai Style Hot Pot was also the same. The amount of food seemed a lot less than my most recent visit. The Popcorn Chicken was good and both the Classic Milk Tea and Tieguanyin Oolong Milk Tea were not bad to me. On the second trip, we ordered Korean Troops Pot, Satay Beef Pot and the Fried King Oyster Mushrooms. The Korean Troops Pot was good and the Satay Beef Pot was tasty. The Fried King Oyster Mushrooms were delicious and had the same batter as the Popcorn Chicken. On my last visit, we had the Taiwanese Spicy Pot, the Popcorn Chicken Pot, and also the Fried King Oyster Mushrooms again. The Popcorn Chicken Pot was literally popcorn chicken and the hot pot but it was nice to have two in most one. Stinky Tofu: Don't worry if you're afraid of the smell. It is not stinky at all, but overly fried. It needs moisture in the tofu to taste good. Hopefully, there is room for improvement there. The best part was the pickled cabbage. Fried Chicken Steak Rice: Marinated perfectly and crispy. The minced rice comes with the meal. We also ordered on the side. Absolutely delicious! Pepper Pork Tripe Chicken Pot: Bland broth, but not bad. Sesame Oil Chicken Pot: We clearly told the waitress wanted a mild broth, but somehow got a suicide based broth. Service could definitely improve. Although they were nice, I had to get up to ask for things multiple times. We ordered the popcorn chicken, Thai Pot with medium spice, and Beef pot extra spicy. They must have mixed up the spice levels because Thai pot was super spicy and Beef pot had no spice at all. Taste for both pots were pretty bland. The pots did not look anything like the menu picture. It was full of cabbage and broth with one of each topping. Definitely not enough to share. We were excited that another Taiwanese spot opened up in AZ since the only other place to go was Yes Cafe or Tasty Pot! Tbh, hard not to compare them all (although they are different kinds of restaurants too). Made a reso by calling in. Limited walk-ins currently during soft opening. We ordered stinky tofu, fried tempura fish cakes, popcorn chicken, braised pork rice, and the Taiwanese hot pot (#1). Also got a wintermelon lemon tea. About $70 for two people after tax and tip, with a little bit of leftovers to take home. Stinky tofu could be stinkier but it was good enough considering there is no where else to get it. I liked the pickled veggies on the side, wish they gave more since you're supposed to eat the tofu with it. Not enough for each piece of tofu. Fave item was the fried tempura fish cake! Couldn't find that when I lived in the Bay Area. Nice spiced and chewy. Popcorn chicken - liked that they included basil and was fried perfectly crispy, but flavor wise was lacking. Braised pork rice was mostly rice and very minimal pork. $5 for a bowl of white rice mostly. The hot pot was OK. Since Tasty Pot is closer to us I think if we want hot pot we'll just go there lol. Nice that they have stinky tofu though in their hot pot. I get that they're still soft opened but they have been for over a month now I think? I had to ask for water multiple times when the restaurant was only half full. Hopefully this will get better after grand opening. I think we prefer the homeyness of Yes Cafe more. I'm baaaack! Upon further taste inspection, I have to say that the true rock stars of Pop Pot are the appetizers. Our table got fried century egg, popcorn chicken, and squid balls to share, and all were pretty authentic and delicious. (Also ty ty for letting us keep a second serving of century eggs when they were mistakenly made!) The servers are so kind and willing to give recommendations. I love that they have flavors not found at their competitor's restaurant, like the cilantro and century egg (which is a lighter broth). My friends loved the Taiwanese hot pot, which comes in a larger serving, as well. Keep in mind that there's a little inconsistency in their spiciness scale. I believe some broths are naturally spicy, so the Taiwanese hot pot at medium was super spicy, while cilantro and century egg at medium was still what I'd consider mild. Previously, my biggest gripe was that the soup endlessly boils, but I learned that you can ask the servers to put out the flame. Update: After the first experience, I have been back a few times but have not had the chance to update until now. I've been back 3 times with different people. Feb 4th: came in with two friends during lunch hours. We were seated pretty quickly but it took forever until someone came to take our orders. I got the beef satay pot and my friends got the korean troops pot & taiwanese pot. Beef satay was okay. Needs a bit more flavor. My friend said his taiwanese pot was a bit sweet. Other friend said he liked his korean troops pot. There was way too much cabbage in all pots. My friend also ordered the combo appetizer which never came out and turns out the order was never added. I got the rice truffle drink again. That's always good! Feb 10th: came in with a friend for dinner. Service definitely improved this time!! For us anyway. The table next to us left before their food came out. We were seated right away, ordered in a timely manner, food and drinks came out at a good time and the waiter checked on us from time to time. My friend got the korean troops pot and I got the tomato pot. We both liked our pots. The only thing was that there was too much cabbage again. Overall, much better experience! March 4th: came with family. We ordered the cilantro & preserved egg, Thai pot, popcorn chicken pot and korean troops pot. Again, too much cabbage. It's actually pretty big and could be shared with 2 light eater. Chicken is crunchy and tender. Which similar to Popcorn chicken. I enjoyed the tea with jelly! I would come here to order that again. I enjoyed the hot pot but I'm not sure I would order it again. It came with a lot of food and seafood inside the pot and the flavor was good. However I did not like that the flame was not adjustable and you could not turn off the flame, you just had to wait until it burned out. This resulted in the food inside the pot getting way overcooked (all the food is already inside the pot when it is served to your table). The inside of the restaurant is very nice and clean and spacious. I was impressed with their menu. It consisted of approximately 20 different hot pots. When I ordered, I found out substitutions were not allowed. Eats- Complimentary cold green or black tea. I had the green tea and I liked it bc it was sweet. But not too sweet. But if you like yours unsweetened maybe ask if that's an option? I had the seafood soup and crispy basil popcorn chicken. Both were flavorful and I liked it. Just wish they offered ramen or rice noodles for the soup. They had rice or vermicelli. I also wish you could adjust the heat on your pots like tasty pot up in Mesa. You either keep it on or turn it off. Hot pot for a cold night! This was a soft opening and was a busy night too!! Tried calling beforehand but no one answered. We drove there to see if it was open. And yes it was. We put in our name and number of people right around 6:45pm and was seated around 7:20pm. Their menu was extensive with a variety of 21 individual hot pots, appetizers , few rice dishes and teas! A cute hippo resembled the food chain. We ordered the popcorn chicken hot pot, sukiyaki hot pot and popcorn chicken appetizer and then a side of tofu and fish cake. For the hot pot you order the type of hot pot you want. Then add any meats where beef is extra $2 charge. Then select spicy level. And then rice or vermicelli noodles. Instant noodles is extra charge. And then add any extra items for the hot pot. Maybe 15 minutes from when we were seated we were given water. A little bit late but again it was busy. The order was taken by tablet ordering from the server/owner. We received our popcorn chicken first and then later came the hot pots. Maybe 30 minutes into eating I noticed that I didn't get my enoki mushrooms and corn. Enoki mushroom was on a recall nationwide so good thing it wasn't served. And then corn was provided after letting them know. Soup broth was added when soup level was low. All the workers were really nice and wanted to make sure everything was good which I appreciated. The portions were generous and we had some leftovers to take home. The service was good and efficient but unfortunately there were only 2 servers during a busy lunch hour. The food came out quickly and was piping hot. The sauces were already on the table, so we could customize our dishes to our liking. The price was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. We paid about $18 for the hot pot and $13 for the rice plate. I would definitely come back to Pop Pot and Tea and try their other dishes. You may need a reservation if you have a larger party. We also went on a Tuesday night around 6pm and they were busy. I was super excited to try this hot pot place but it was quite the let down. The service was not the best we had to grab her attention to ask for something. I'm not sure if they do the refilling of the soup for the hot pots since we did not get it. We got number one and it was very bland not that flavorful. On the other hand, some of the side dishes saved the day. We got popcorn chicken, Taiwanese sausage, and fried tofu. I believe the tofu they used for the dishes is the stinky tofu which I would not prefer. But the popcorn chicken was crunchy and tasty and so was the sausage it was sweet. Interior was nicely decorated and music choice seemed to fit the vibes. I don't recommend this place if you want good hot pot. read more

I just went there to have lunch with my wife and mother in law. I love this place and the foods are delicious! I just brought a house in scottdale. From now on , I could go here to enjoy my favorite Taiwanese cuisine. read more
