I had a strategy for the 90-minute experience now second time around and gosh, I'm so glad that it worked out - appetizers, main course, then round three if I still had the space in my stomach I would order an tonkatsu ramen, and it happened!! The last round was dessert and I went with the matcha cheesecake instead of the upside down pineapple cake. I finally found a solid sushi spot in Phoenix. My friend and I came to Yama for their $25 bottle & 2 rolls deal we saw on IG. It's honestly a steal imo but I do wish they had another white option besides Chardonnay. Still great with a Pinot noir as the red option. We also lucked out with it being HH as well so added in another roll and some seaweed salads. Our server was friendly and quick with our order. I loved the outdoor patio, weather pending of course. The sushi was really good but I'd love to try some without cream cheese next time. I'll be back for their AYCE menu for sure. read more

We live closer to the Chandler location but they are not dog friendly and we were going to be in the area so we tried this location. The parking lot is pretty small. Luckily we found a spot right away but I'm not sure if there are other nearby parking options. We sat outside and were helped by two servers as one of them was training. They were both friendly and knew the menu well. We opted for the all you can eat option, which includes 10 items at a time. Great selection of rolls, nigiri, appetizers, and even sashimi. We were able to do two rounds and were stuffed. The fish was fresh and didn't taste fishy at all. We really enjoyed the salmon and hamachi collars. Kids under 6 are free and our toddler enjoyed the chicken skewer and yakisoba. On our second round the rolls were smaller which I appreciated because this lets you try various rolls without getting stuffed. Highly recommend the eel, toro, sweet shrimp and wagyu! I was excited to try a new all you can eat sushi place. Well, it's new to me... My regular sushi place is still my favorite, but sometimes I like to venture out. Yama is much nicer and fancier than I expected. A huge selection of items available on the all-you-can-eat menu too. Some specialty items have a 1 order maximum, but there are so many to choose from, this is not really an issue. It's nice that you could sit at the sushi bar and do all you can eat. Most other places only have tables. The service was pretty quick and efficient, which is not always the case in some all you can eat places. You have 90 minutes to complete your gorging, which is ample time. The quality of the fish seemed good, but I wasn't too fond of some of the sauces. If you're familiar with sushi, the same sauces are used on a large amount of the rolls. If you want quantity over quality, this is definitely the place to go. $40 is pretty good for such a variety. If I want to eat a stupid amount of sushi, this is where I'm going to come. Normally, I will still continue to go to my regular spot. read more

Yama Phoenix recently started offering an All You Can Eat menu for $39.95 in July...and I've been 4 times since. They are the best AYCE sushi spot in the Valley and my partner and I have been to most of them. Their premium offerings include beef short rib (galbi), toro, bluefin tuna, uni, wagyu beef, among others of which you can only get 1 order per person. It's worth it- especially the galbi and toro! They also offer robata which is really nice because the bbq sticks help break up the monotony of sushi. Sometimes they come out dry but the flavor is good. We recommend the sichuan (it's not spicy). Sushi roll options are pretty diverse. 1 order comes with 4 pieces which is awesome if you want to try multiple rolls without getting too stuffed. Our favorite is the Dragon Ash roll. The ultimate test for me is if a restaurant is consistent, and Yama passes. The regular tuna is hit or miss but everything else is solid. Don't forget to order the tempura cheesecake at the end. Service has always been excellent! Last call for the AYCE menu is 9:30pm. We learned the hard way. Parking in front can be limited but you can find ample street parking nearby. read more

Family was looking for a new sushi spot, and we think we've found our new regular in Yama Sushi House. I wish I had remembered to take pictures of the menu, as well as the other food items, but we were enjoying ourselves so much that it slipped my mind. As we entered, we were greeted with smiles from the entire staff, welcoming us in. So many good-looking items to choose from, it took us a moment to familiarize ourselves with the menu. We started out with the garlic edamame, which was fantastic. For my entrees, I went with the Tuna Lover and Phoenix rolls. Both huge stand outs for me on the menu, but even more so once I was eating them. There are other rolls that caught my eye, that I will be wanting to go back and try as well. But from what I picked, I will not be disappointed in the quality and freshness of their rolls. The presentation, taste, and quality really had an impact on our overall dining experience here. We are looking forward to being back soon, as we are definitely hooked on this place. Two last things: parking isn't the best, but you can make it work. Im not deducting 'stars' because of a limited parking situation. Makes it that much more exclusive. Daphne was a server, and she was absolutely charming. This restaurant was suggested by a friend. We came for lunch on a Sunday. It was not busy but we kinda expect this during the summer. There is limited parking at the front, my friend parked in the back. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame - it was flavorful but not too spicy. We shared a variety of chef's specialty rolls. My least favorite was the lollipop roll - I think not worth the price. The ninja roll was good. I forgot the names of the other 2 we tried. Tried to place an order over the phone for Mother's Day and was refused to be sold the sushi boat that they don't do takeout and even if I went and ordered it I still wouldn't be able to take it home. Don't waste your time. The host staff and manager, Bijou, have no idea what they are doing or how to run a restaurant. We arrived at 6pm on a Sunday and asked how long a wait would be. We were told 45 minutes and waited the 45 minutes outside. After 45 minutes, we checked in and were told it would be at most 10 more minutes. After 15 more minutes, we were told that there were now two large parties ahead of us and they couldn't tell us how long it will be. The manager came to discuss, and told me that there was a miscommunication and our table was ready. The host then sat a different large party at the table as the manager was saying it was for my group. She asked the server why he would sit them there, and he informed her that they had a reservation. She seemed unaware of the reservations and customer traffic at the restaurant, and there was no solution offered. We wasted the evening waiting around, and left with no dinner. Little sushi restaurant. Probably one of the few great sushi I've had here. When it's that good, you don't dip it in soy sauce. The poke was a good size portion; however, it didn't appear to have any flavor our like it was marinated/tossed in anything of a sauce. So to me it was basically a sashimi that was cubed. They all came out as half rolls for the AYCE, which honestly thank god because you're going to want to try everything. Nothing looks better than the next thing, because they all look too good. I went to this location for my birthday dinner with 2 others. The sushi was fantastic, the service, not so much. Towards the end, we ordered several more items which we planned on being our last round. Some of that order was brought, then our server came back to see if we wanted more. We thought we had more coming and asked if we still had more. Our server said, I don't think so, checked her order pad and said it looks like no. So we order a few more since we did not get as much as we expected the last round. Then part of the 're-ordered' food was brought out, then our server brings over our original last order and says so sorry there was more. We said to them we should probably cancel the replaced order since we did have more from the previous order. Our server tells us we got it and leaves us with all the food. We were unable to finish it all since we had an entire extra round of orders we were not expecting. When getting our bill, our server tells us there is a 20% up charge for leftover food. We say we got more than we expected since there was more from another order we placed after being told no more was coming. Our server looks at us with a blank stare and repeats it's a 20% up charge for unfinished food. That equaled an additional $25 on the bill. Shady practices are going on at this location. Would not recommend, try another location. read more

We ordered squid salad, a hot night roll from the happy hour, and a Viper roll from as one of their special rolls. Squid salad was a boom!! We loved it. The texture of the squid and the dressing had a perfect combination, and it was only $5. The portion was also generous for the happy hour. Hot Night Roll was so good. As I was expecting it was hot, but not overly. A perfect touch of spice. Well, if you are good with spice lol This could be my favorite roll if I didn't try the viper. Viper Roll; omg. It was warm, which gave very nice feeling after I ate squid salad (cold), and hot night (also cold). Eel was so tasty. Didn't feel it heavy as some places do with the eel. I would like to have it when I come back. Overall, the fish tasted fresh. The restaurant was cozy and clean. The price was very affordable. That could be a neighborhood gem!
