Best sushi I have ever had! I was excited to see on Yelp that Harumi had won best Japanese in Phoenix a few times. Had to come in to try! Instantly was greeted and sat by the hostess and service was quick and easy. Loved every dish and drink that we had. There were lots of things I didn't know on the menu but appreciated the detail to help me figure out what each dish was. Can't wait to come back and try more!
I am by no means a sushi connoisseur, but I have been blessed to have lived in San Diego for about all of my life, as well as traveled to Japan to experience sushi. With that being said, I have found my new favorite sushi spot in Arizona. Their sushi is unique because it uses "purple sushi rice," which tastes more grainy than regular white sushi rice, but it works really well and the difference in taste is pretty subtle. The rolls that my friend and I shared were: Aburi, Hot Havana and Mt. Fuji. Out of the three, Mt. Fuji was my favorite, but they were all pretty good! I also ordered two pieces of nigiri: Wagyu beef and uni -- both were incredible. The uni definitely melts in your mouth. I can't remember the alcoholic beverage I ordered, but I didn't like it, so I didn't finish it. The restaurant itself is very modern and beautiful. My friend that I ate with mentioned how the location actually used to be smaller, but they expanded, so now it's definitely much more well known than it used to be. I hope that doesn't diminish the quality, but for my first visit the other week, I enjoyed it a lot! The workers were also very attentive and the food came out fairly quick, especially considering we went right as the restaurant opened.
Back here after four years and just as good as the first time! We enjoyed the trio, oh my god roll (should be a mandatory roll you order), and the salmon nigiri. The purple rice is always my fav way to have sushi! Staff were amazing and so nice as well.
We have beem going to Harumi for quite some time even before the new location which males theor old one look like a shack in comparison. Harumi has some great seafood flown in every day and I cant say enough about how great their Omakase is which I believe is only offered after 6pm. They have amazing sake bombers and also recommend the Unagi Don bown. Sushi can be pricey but for a great offering of sashimi and nigiri, I cant say it breaks the bank. They also have a wide range of rolls that the kids love as well as a flaming one done table side which is fun to watch. They also have real wasabi for just two dollars more which is well worth it. I also recommend happy hour for cheap damage, squid salad, and aforementioned sake bombers. Really a great option if you are staying downtown but also worth the trip from anywhere in the valley. Service is fantastic and quick, plus they have a bar at the sushi station if you want to see tour meal being made.the new location has very modern ambience and a very upscale feel to it. Waits havent been crazy but I recommend coming early. Also ask for the secret yokozunas flying banana. Well worth it.
Very good sushi! They have lots of variety, the fish was fresh, and the purple rice was cute! Service was also super friendly, and it's a really cute place!
We were going downtown for a concert, craving some sushi and found this place on Yelp. No reservations available, I did check their website where you can be adding to a waitlist, but it stated currently no waitlist and invited us to just arrive at restaurant. We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. We truly enjoyed our dining experience and look forward to returning. Highly recommended for a quality sushi experience!
I have been to Harami sushi many times in the distant past, but this is my first visit since they moved across the street. It's spacious, tastefully decorated and either they hit the jackpot with staff or their training is spectacular. My table had lots of questions, but everyone they interacted with was knowledgable, helpful and professional. They were able to satisfy my friends who are vegan, vegetarian, and even gluten free without batting an eye. The sushi itself was all delicious. Rolls and nigiri are served using forbidden rice, which is a great twist on standard sushi. I had hamachi - fresh and promptly served. I also had the omg roll, which is served theatrically on fire in an aluminum foil boat. It's unagi based so totally appropriate. As a late add on we had the ahi tower which is a definite must for appetizer in the future. It was a fun evening and we'll certainly return.
If you work downtown, or near downtown you need to add Harumi lunches into your rotation! The new Harumi, which is directly across from the old one, is huge inside and has a beautiful interior. My favorite lunch special, which is less than $20 comes with Udon & 2 of the signature house rolls. The Udon is a large portion with a ton of flavor in the broth. The AZ Roll is my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of their signature rolls. The purple rice is a staple! If you are up for it or visiting alone sit at the sushi bar, the sushi chefs put on a great show!
This place was easy to find and parking was close. I wish I knew about this place sooner. It's inside a hotel, super high-end decor although the place looks super fancy most customers walked in dressed in regular daily wear. We got there right at lunch so it was super busy during a weekday. We decided to sit at the bar. I ordered a draft jefe, forgot the name. We had a couple appetizers and their own lunch menu sushi. Everything was so delicious. The food was just the right temperature and looked amazing. The staff at the bar was extremely helpful and kind. We can't wait to go back and try other dishes.
First time here and I was not disappointed. All of the staff were friendly and helped each other run food and refill waters, which isn't something you see much of these days. We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. But this is a more upscale sushi restaurant, so it isn't surprising. I will keep this place in my list of spots to hit when I'm looking for a bite to eat in DTPHX.
High quality sushi for a great price in a cool location? Honestly, what could be better! Harumi came highly recommended by friends and family who live in town, so it was a must-try when we were visiting AZ over the holidays. There are plenty of nearby parking garages to choose from, and I don't believe they validate. We made a reservation for four adults and one baby for lunch, and we were glad we did because this is a popular spot! Nearly every table was full by the time we were leaving. I started with an iced matcha latte, which may have been one of the best I've ever had! It was smooth, sweet, and lightly frothy. Their lunch specials are an incredible value: you can get so much food for great price! I went with the Udon & Duo, which was $15 for a huge bowl of udon noodle soup and two sushi rolls of your choice from a select menu. Everything was fresh and flavorful - the sushi is made on purple rice which is a fun twist! Our server was so sweet, and they were well equipped and happy to serve a baby, although a very well-behaved baby at that. This is definitely on my list to revisit the next time we're in AZ!

I'm going to start off by seconding the common opinion -- the black rice is tasty, but it doesn't make for amazing sushi rice personally, as it does tend to fall apart as soon as soy sauce touches it (even when just picking it up, especially the nigiri). I think what shines here are the unique roll options and the fish quality. The service is also always great, I've always had really friendly servers, and the food comes out super fast (like almost concerningly fast hahaha). This time, my family came for a Sunday night dinner, and there was no wait at all. We shared a couple of rolls, some appetizers and udon. The gyoza was the deep-fried kind, which was good, I think I personally prefer pan-fried. The Oh My God roll is always a hit with people, as it comes with a fun little fire show, but I'm not a huge fan of very saucy rolls so I opted for the nigiri and rainbow roll combo -- which was great value! I didn't love the udon personally, I think there was a lot of pepper or spices that kind of overtook the flavor of the broth. Overall, the sushi itself was solid, appetizers were okay, but my family loves their rolls! I will definitely be back for drinks, as I saw some really cool options on the menu -- need to try that matcha martini for sure!

Harumi was so good! This was my first time dining here, but our friends had been to Harumi in the past, before they renovated into a larger space. The restaurant used to be much smaller and now it has a front dining area with bar area, and a back dining room. Everything is decorated nicely and has a great Japanese aesthetic. Service was prompt and friendly which was great since we had a concert to attend right after dinner. What really was excellent was the food! The seafood tasted very fresh and the flavors were subtle and delicate, similar to Japanese food in Japan. They are one of the few places I've seen in the valley that serve freshly grated wasabi root versus the green wasabi paste. That was such a nice touch. They use purple and black rice for their dishes, hence the difference in color. And I loved my cocktail. I went back and forth on a few options and was so pleased with the Off Minor. It's a gin based cocktail with passionfruit curd, falernum, and lemon. It tasted like a lemon square, but not overly sweet. More delicate flavors and very refreshing. read more

F O O D This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. The place was super vibe-y and is a great place to go with the girls or on a date. And the food was delicious! My sister and I loved everything we ate. The Caesar salad was fresh and the dressing delicious, and the sushi is made with purple rice instead of white which set the place apart from other sushi spots I've eaten at (in a good way!). They don't load up on the carbs and the fish to rice ratio was nicely proportioned. I thought that the prices were also pretty reasonable. Japanese Caesar Salad // $12 Scallop Temaki // $12 Oh-My-God Roll // $16 Mt. Fuji Roll // $17 Las Vegas Roll // $13 Trip sampler // $22 S E R V I C E The service was SO GOOD! I'll be honest, the people of AZ weren't impressing me; I went to downtown Phoenix the night before and encountered some pretty overt racism. This was our last dinner and the staff were so nice. Everything was prepared well, food came out fast, drinks were filled, all the things! I only caught the girl's name who brought out the Oh-My-God roll and gave us a show (thanks, May!), but the employees were quick to clear our tables and were so smiley and were so great to converse with. This is a must go-to spot whenever we visit Phoenix in the future. L O C A T I O N It's located in downtown inside what looked to be a business building. I actually have no idea where everyone typically parks, but we managed to find street parking a block away. read more
Surprised such an amazing sushi place exists in Phoenix ! I visited my friend in Phoenix and we liked Harumi so much that we came back the following day. Their decor is beautiful with a modern boho vibe and soft wood tones that's perfect for a date. We shared a few rolls and also ordered some kid friendly options (plain rice, side of avocado, sweet potato roll, avocado cucumber roll). Our favorite roll was the Hot Havana roll! Must get it if you like yellowtail! Also appreciate that they have a very affordable chef special that is perfect for those on a keto/low carb die. It came with 6 pieces of sashimi and the oasis roll. Love that that use a rice blend (purple or black rice?) that gives it a purple hue. We did order cocktails and sadly, my "Seija" cocktail which is a matcha martini missed the mark :( but my friend enjoyed hers. read more
Harumi is one of the top sushi restaurants in Phoenix, with great quality of fish and unique rolls. Their purple sushi rice is a fun addition, and also cooked/seasoned very well. The restaurant is warm and inviting, with very attentive waiters. It can be difficult to find parking downtown, but the meal is definitely worth it! I always will recommend harumi to people in search of great sushi in Phoenix. read more

Yes! Yes! Yes! Fresh fish, quality food, excellent customer service, beautiful ambiance and mind blowing price points! This is the place to be. I had the lunch tower special, miso soup, edamame with the spicy garlic butter (I preferred the sea salt), the mackerel nigiri, the kurodai nigiri and they all did what they were supposed to do; excite my tastebuds and fill my belly. This was great! I didn't have a mocktail because I thought the prices ($19) were too expensive (the lunch menu was cheaper $16). The entire team was remarkable and I already see myself dining in there again VERY SOON! Check them out and enjoy! read more
I'm not a fan of going downtown anywhere, but I will happily make my way to Harumi Sushi Bar any damn day! One of my friends turned me on to this place and I've not looked back since. The ambiance is very classy yet casual, and I believe at 5 pm on the dot, they dim the lights for a more romantic vibe. Great place to take a date! The food as well as the service here is unmatched. From the moment you walk in until you leave, your experience here will be monumental. You are never rushed, the servers are all super friendly and knowledgeable, and if you need anything, you can flag someone down and they'll come right to you. Even the bussers stop and get you whatever you need. The Japanese Caesar Salad has got to be my all-time favorite. It's so unique and the presentation is beautiful! I could eat the whole thing by myself because it's that damn good! I love that they have no rice options like the Oasis Roll which is so satisfying. There really isn't much more to say other than you should try this place if you're a sushi fanatic and you haven't been here already. Parking can be difficult because it IS downtown, but once you circle a few times, you should nail a spot. Pricing isn't astronomical and it's very reasonable for what you get. Drop into Harumi and satisfy your sushi craving today! read more

This was the first restaurant I ate out while visiting Phoenix, which truly surpassed my expectations. Did not expect much from a sushi restaurant in a landlocked state, but the fish was so fresh. All the dishes are reasonably priced for the quality - this is a gorgeous upscale restaurant in downtown with beautiful dishes to match. The service is very professional and friendly - I was given several recommendations for things to do while in town. The lunch happy hour is also an insane deal for the quality. I returned the next day with a large group and everyone had a great experience. read more

My partner and I originally chose this place because we heard they light one of the sushi rolls on fire, which immediately sounded like something fun we had to try. Funny enough, this actually wasn't even the exact restaurant my partner had been thinking of when he brought it up, but honestly I'm so glad we ended up here anyway because the food was REALLY good. We ordered the flaming ohmygod sushi roll, and man... it was amazing. Not only was the presentation fun, but the sushi itself actually tasted incredible too, which sometimes isn't the case with more "gimmicky" menu items. It was so good that I literally ordered another roll to-go and took it on the plane back home with me because I already knew I'd be craving it later. That alone should say enough about how much I liked it. I also tried the matcha martini, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. It had the perfect balance of matcha flavor and alcohol where neither one overpowered the other. Sometimes matcha drinks either taste way too earthy or completely lose the matcha flavor under the alcohol, but this one was super smooth, flavorful, and really well done. The restaurant itself also has a really nice atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor area definitely has a more upscale vibe than your usual sushi spot and that makes the experience feel a little more elevated and perfect for a date night. On top of all that, the servers were super friendly and provided genuinely great service throughout the meal. Everyone was attentive, welcoming, and made the experience feel really comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, this place completely exceeded my expectations. Great sushi, fun presentation, amazing drinks, friendly service, and a really nice atmosphere. I'd absolutely come back again. read more

My only downside was towards the end of our meal when we waited extremely long for our 2nd round of the wagyu nigiri and our desserts... even the waiters were frustrated with the kitchen because of how backed up/slow it became especially since I suppose the chef came back from break? But I know tables around us were starting to be fed up as well. Despite this, our waiter did cover 1 of the desserts which was nice. And overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the decor and the food. My favorite was honestly the wagyu nigiri and uni nigiri, but everything was delicious. I loved the scallops temaki, loved the mango roll (something different) and the toro sashimi. The burnt cheesecake with caviar was also a hit! My friend got the "oh my god" roll which was a fascinating presentation and she got her mochi ice cream which was also very light and refreshing. Easily has become my new favorite Japanese restaurant! Our server Brad was by far the biggest highlight outside of our delicious meal! He went out of his way to take care of us and he was such a delight to talk to. We had a big group too and the food came out so quickly! I would drive out of my way just to come back here . read more

Stopped on a Wednesday evening for an early dinner at Hardin Sushi Bar. The restaurant is clean and much larger than I expected. They have outdoor patio seating as well as nice indoor space. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. The food was really great and the prices were reasonable. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of nigiri and sashimi and superb service. It's not a top tier sushi place but it doesn't pretend to be. Lovely spot for fresh sushi. I loved my honmaguro nigiri the most. The Toro sashimi and nigiri were buttery goodness. I dined alone and enjoyed my time there. Harumi absolutely stole my heart. I have been wanting to check this out for over a year and it was definitely worth it! I'm going to be a regular now! The lunch special was such a win. I loved getting a little variety from sushi to appetizers to miso. Everything tasted fresh and balanced and it felt like the perfect midday treat. I feel like it could be soooo amazing if the schtick wasn't black rice sushi. The fish is good. The ambiance is beautifully upscale boho with a hint of asian. But the black rice hurts me... I love the ambiance of this place, very warm and inviting. The decor is beautiful and the smell of the place is heavenly. I would definitely come back here for a date night. A little bit on the pricier side but I think it's worthWhen I came in I sat at the bar and the drinks looked so interesting. If I was a drinker I would've ordered some. Service was also top notch. Now for the dishes... I had a sea weed salad. As expected, pretty good. Then I had 2 rolls. I cannot remember the names but the first one with the purple rice was really good. No need to add soy sauce for that one. And the second was a cucumber roll. Although the taste was great, it was hard to eat. The cucumber was thick and made for a huge bite so obviously I had to eat it in smaller bites. Making it fall apart. Again great in taste. I would maybe just recommend to shave the cucumber skin rather than just cutting it into circle shape. I would 100% come back to try other rolls. read more

Truly an excellent choice for some good sushi. I came here for lunch today and was greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The decor is beautiful too. I got a miso soup and some chicken gyoza to start. The gyoza was great and the sauce that came along with it made it even better. I ordered the spicy blue fin tuna roll and the oh my god roll. The oh my god came wrapped in foil and the server lit it on fire for some table-side entertainment. I preferred the oh my god roll, but both were good. Yes, they offer a great variety of gluten free, and vegan rolls! Gluten free/low sodium soy sauce too!!! They are also great at customizing a roll, ie, taking something out for your vegan needs.
Is there a parking lot for the restaurant and if not what are closest parking location?
Metered parking, there is a garage in the financial building but it costs a lot. Entrance is between central and first ave on Adams. You can get it validated for a little bit off at the bar or one of the shops on the ground floor.

No - but the menu is generic across all ages groups.. don't think you will have any problems - have taken my kids before and never an issue.
What does purple rice taste like? My husband is very picky anything different and he will not eat it.
Just tell him to man up and eat it.
