The best sushi in AZ! Never ever disappoints when I drop in. My fav rolls are the Kiro Roll, Tuna Serrano, and anything with Toro! The Ube Cheesecake is also a must try!
After hearing great things about Sushi Friend, we decided to go check it out for ourselves. We went on a Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't overly busy. Upon arriving, you'll find limited parking at the front, but there's an entire lot in the back. Then, once you enter the restaurant, you go up to one of the two iPads and place your order. We ordered their signature roll platter, which includes a choice of 4 signature rolls. After ordering, you find a place to sit and wait for your name to be called. The staff were really friendly. Immediately after entering the building, the greeted us and offered to help if we had any questions. The sushi was good, but I must admit that it wasn't mind-blowing per se. It's a little pricey too - $65 for the platter. It's definitely worth a try, however. I have no complaints.
So I usually don't like to give into hype for places, but this place is worth all the hype it gets! My husband and I were blown away by the freshness and high quality of the sushi. The rolls had such great combinations of flavor, and the nigiri melted in our mouths! Usually I like a lot of soy sauce but this sushi was so good the soy sauce brought down the flavors. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

I've been wanting to revisit Sushi Friend for a long time, and I finally did! Pricing is pretty standard, with most items ranging between $15-$17. This time, I tried the seared salmon, Kiro roll, and unagi don. The seared salmon is fairly classic and tastes well-balanced overall. The Kiro roll was refreshing, and I really liked how fresh the yellowtail tasted. It did lean a bit on the sour side for me. I'm not sure if there was a little too much vinegar in the rice The unagi don was savory, and the unagi sauce was slightly on the salty side for my taste. I usually prefer it a bit sweeter rather than salty, but again, that's just my personal preference. I also really like how they've expanded their seating!! It feels much more spacious compared to my visit a long time ago. There's a good amount of parking in the back, which is always a plus. The staff were friendly and welcoming as well. Overall, a solid spot with consistent quality. While a few flavors weren't exactly to my personal preference, I still enjoyed the experience and would come back again if I am in the area!
I do not say this lightly. This is hands down the best sushi in AZ and my personal favorite spot. The staff are all amazing and super helpful, a small hole in the wall neighborhood vibe. Incredibly fresh for being in the desert and they offer REAL wasabi! Which is a massive bonus for me. We got the specialty combo with the seared scallops and fire dragon roll. Both were perfection, incredible balance and blend of flavor, no need for additional sauce or anything extra. The scallops were seared perfectly and you could taste the quality of the ingredients. They really know their stuff here. Their unagi roll is hands down my favorite basic roll they offer. The only drawback is once you finish you just have to get more! Very casual seating, free water you can get yourself and they also have drink options available, no wait staff, but if they are not crazy they run the food out to you. Get there early because they have a ton of options that are not available all day due to demand. They do not load their rolls up on rice, everything is perfectly balanced and you can taste every ingredient in your rolls. Don't sleep on sushi friend if you are a sushi fan.
We were so excited to try this place after hearing so many good things. We used their app to order before heading over. When we arrived, our order was ready! Such a seamless process and the food was packaged so nicely! The toro box (although a little pricey) was so good! The seared salmon was tasty. The sushislope didn't do it for me. The spicy yellowtail & tuna rolls were solid. Star of the show was the ube cheesecake. I should've ordered my own! Not the best sushi we've had but will we be back? Probably.

We picked up this last time and I told them we were there for a pickup and they opened the fridge for me to grab my sushi. I'm used to them handing it to me and I was just thinking should I be reaching in here? What if I grab the wrong one by mistake. However, all was good. Since they expanded we actually ate there this time. I would say it is a little dark in there where we sat farther from the window but hey I love the wall art and the sushi is fantastic.
Lots of buzz over a hot new sushi spot on Central Avenue in Phoenix. Sushi Friend has a new approach to sushi. A small and very tight restaurant located in N. Central Phoenix. Ordering is limited to a kiosk and photos on a computer screen. One orders and waits for the sushi to go or plastic trays filled with sushi to enjoy in a limited seating area. 8 out of 10 orders here are take-out. The take-out business volume is impressive. We ordered three rolls. Fire Dragon Roll with unagi, crab mix, cucumber, spicey tuna and unagi sauce ( spicey, fresh, little bite and decent flavor). AZ roll with spicey crab mix. cucumber, takwan, and scallions (spicey, flavor packed and again very fresh). Sushi Slope Roll with spicey bigey tuna, jicama, salmon, avacado and furikake (again spicey, good crisp bite, nicely melded taste). Service is relatively quick, good flavor, unique combinations with very fresh rolls. The goal here is good food with large platters or combo plates and monster take-out service. It did not meet my expectations with regard to a sit-down relaxing service. It purposely is a grab and go establishment with good quality food. Sushi Friend is pushing the envelope on take out sushi with huge volume, yet good fresh sushi. Unfortunately, it is not in my wheel-house for a night out of dining. If you are hosting a large dinner party or get-together, order a tasty tray of sushi from Sushi Friend rather than a high dollar grocery store. You will be pleasantly surprised.
The best takeout sushi I've gotten in the Valley! I ordered the 4 Specialty Roll Platter for 65$ and chose the Seared Salmon Roll, Scallop Dyno Roll, Fire Dragon Roll, Sushislope Roll. I'd rank the Scallop roll as best, Salmon 2nd, Fire 3rd, and Sushislope 4th. Every roll definitely gets you a complete bite of good quality protein and filling combination. You have to get the 30$ Sashimi bowl that comes with 11 pieces of sashimi and your choice of rice or salad bowl underneath. Great sushi without the fishy smell, great flavor combos, and friendly staff that keep the flow going during any hour of service.
The freshest fish and the quality is truly there. My friends and I licked everything clean.
ASU visit Tradition- Go to Sushi Friend! We're back in town for ASU move-in, and of course, we had to revisit this amazing spot. Once again, the boss was on top of everything so friendly, helpful, professional, and clearly dedicated to keeping things running smoothly. His crew of six was hard at work, putting out roll after roll with care and precision. This has officially become our sushi place every time we visit from NYC/CT. Flashback 5 Months Ago: Admittedly, I almost didn't give this place a chance. We're from NYC, and I was hesitant to try raw fish in the desert I mean, how fresh could it be? From the outside, it looked more like a bodega than a sushi restaurant, and the yellow paint didn't exactly scream "hidden gem." But I decided to check it out anyway while my family waited in the car and I'm SO glad I did. Inside, it's clean and a bit industrial, with two sections: a dining room and a self-serve ordering area using iPads. The system is efficient, and what really stood out was the owner personally checking in with customers at the iPads, offering suggestions, helping with the ordering process, and making everyone feel at ease. His attentiveness makes a big difference and shows how much he cares about the customer experience. And the sushi? Absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. The staff was warm and welcoming then, just as they are now. Whether you're local or just visiting ASU, this place is a gem, and we'll be back every time we're in town! By the way, the cloudy Sake is dessert in a glass! Try it. We had take-out so we skipped, not next time, and I'm making the owner have a few shots with us.

I finally got to try this place! The sushi was delicious! I forgot the name of the roll I got but both the roll and and sashimi had such fresh salmon The roll had a little bit of a kick to it but I like a spicier roll! Also definitely on the pricey side but I feel like the quality of the sushi is worth it All the staff seem super friendly and we got our rolls fairly quickly considering how busy it was! I first heard of Sushi Friend last year when they did a collab/pop up at Highball and I really enjoyed their sushi! I finally recently made my way to their actual restaurant! You place your order through one of two iPads at the front and just pay directly from there. Then find a seat and they'll bring out your order. I was particularly excited about their ube creme brulee, but unfortunately they didn't have any that day. It seems to be a limited item made in small batches. Another popular dessert they have is the ube cheesecake, which they did have in stock, but my heart was really set on the creme brulee. I got the scallop dyno roll and a salmon avocado roll. They also have nigiri, sashimi, specialty rolls, classic rolls, bowls, etc. The scallop dyno roll had seared scalloped on top that added a nice smoky flavor. Plus it had a little kick to it from the sriracha. From the previous event, I had tried their hand rolls and I remember really liking them! There's a few spots for parking directly in front of the restaurant, but there's also a dirt lot in the back for additional parking. read more

The standard for all sushi in the state. You start by ordering from an iPad up front with a total view of the kitchen and all the fresh sushi creations being made. Not one roll or item on the menu is lacking! We went when they were out of Toro but can't wait to return to try that. The fresh wasabi and hand rolls are some of the best we've tasted as well as all the speciality rolls. Owner included a free Ube Cheesecake at the end which was incredible as well! I'm a sushi snob and not because I know anything about fish but because I refuse to eat fish that smells like a lake? Usually it needs to be an $$$$ restaurant for me to eat fish.. but it's got good reviews and a lot of stars..I told my husband if it's not good we are stopping by Mickey d's. First of all - service is amazing. I was able to order my rolls my way. The food is delicious - I ate both of my rolls to my surprise. We will definitely be back. read more

We went big and went home and honestly felt like it's just okay. Maybe it was the high expectations being rated as the best and the long wait, which is fine if the food had lived up to the hype. Definitely solid quality and good ratios of rice to fish but if it's going to be the best then I would need to see more attention going into the ingredients like they do in Japan where rice, soy sauce, and wasabi are the star and high quality fish is a given read more

Prices are reasonable, fish tastes fresh and yummy. Went when the place first opened and there was a line starting outside. Great sushi for Phoenix! We came on a weekday for lunch and there was already a small line out the door waiting for the place to open. You order up front at one of two iPads and then find a seat and they bring your food to you. Service was fast, we ordered a few rolls and they were out very quickly. The quality was great. They weirdly exclude certain rolls from their combo pricing so check carefully what is included in the combos before planning ahead since we were disappointed some of the more premium rolls were not included on there. Our favorite was the Toromigo roll! We'll definitely be back when in the area. read more
The best in the valley and that is NO SURPRISE! The owner Kevin has had quite the journey, serving his fan favorite sushi at a business cafe and now expanding to this hot spot! I'm so lucky to have met and tried his food before, my husband and I couldn't wait to visit at his location, and Kevin should be so proud of what he's accomplished ! Sushi friend, it's in the name, feel good place with feel great sushi! The flavors are incredible, the sushi is fresh and the service is amazing. We were checked on so many times and they were so grateful for us to come in! - We went with Toro box (duh) - pretty much melts in your mouth! - Fire Dragon & Aguachile Roll - both were perfection! However the aguachile roll, one of the best rolls we've ever had! What a fun spin on sushi with Mexican flavors! The jicama was also just a nice texture add and treat! - we were surprised by a friend to try the ube cheesecake and I will gladly say - best cheesecake and ube dish I've ever had! Wow! I have heard nothing but great things about this place and I am so glad I tried it. We ordered our food to go, you can eat in the restaurant but you won't be waited on. You order at an IPad and they will bring it out to you when ready. When I arrived for pick up the sushi was ready and the staff was so kind and quick to help me. We ordered four rolls, two specialty, the Seared Salmon and Seared Scallop and two basic rolls, the California and an Unagi Roll. All were amazing, fresh and full of flavor. 4 rolls was plenty for two people, but we wanted more because it was just so yummy. Can't wait to go back again!! read more

I usually try to avoid take out sushi, but have heard great things about Sushi Friend and gave it a shot. It certainly did not disappoint and was exceptional for take out. All the rolls had great flavor combinations and the fish was great texture and flavor. The layout of the restaurant was neat, you see the sushi chefs behind the order/pickup counter as soon as you walk in and there is seating in a room to the side. The staff was extremely friendly and offered a very well designed to-go bag for our order. Will definitely be coming back and very excited to try dining in! read more
Sushi Friend on top. Their sushi quality is always great as is the service. My fave is the seared salmon roll and really any of the sashimi. I recently came back here for the first time since the pandemic and was surprised to see an entire dining room now with plenty of seats. Had the four specialty roll for $65 plus an extra roll and sashimi special. Price was reasonable for sushi, but not as much of a bargain as I was expecting. My favorites were the seared salmon roll and the Kiro roll. The rolls here have a lot of acidic components and definitely a big sonoran flavor theme. It was all served pretty quickly and the staff are friendly here. There is a lot of seating and it wasn't too busy when we went. It's convenient ordering at the tablet and getting it served to your table, especially if you want sushi and aren't looking to sit for too long. Restaurant was clean and well-kept. read more

2 years ago, they were one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Phoenix. I went back there last weekend and I was so disappointed. Miso soup was served in a paper cup. It was not even half full. No seaweed no tofu inside .... It taste like waterdown powder mixed miso soup. Picture 1 was from two years ago. Around $50. Picture 2 from last week. $90 read more

It's all love from us! My wife and I just got back and are absolutely stuffed full. It was SO delicious we couldn't contain ourselves and nommed our salmon rolls in around 5 mins! Apologies if we looked odd. Our visit was spur-of-the-moment; nearly missed it on our drive-up Central from Northern. It's a little tucked-away - parking at the front and more round the back. Lovely clean entrance, chefs working hard, big bright self-serve screen with many delicious of nom to select (we had the salmon roll and the SpIcY salmon roll) and a Mexican cola, and a bunch of people in the eat-in section in the next room talking, laughing and enjoying their food! The service was SO quick, I sincerely thought we had someone else's order! Serioualy, every single ingredient was mouth-wateringly fresh, the wasabi was sabi-licious and the thinly sliced ginger could've been a drink for all I knew. Impressively top work. Glad we got to visit. Thank you for the hospitality and deliciousness. read more
all hits, no misses. luckily came by around 5pm when it wasn't busy yet. the staff was really nice and helpful knowing it was our first time here. got 4 rolls (fire dragon, seared salmon, kiro and scallop dyno) and all of them were super tasty. I couldn't pick a favorite. We upgraded to the "real wasabi" and it was worth it. super fresh. R&B throwbacks were playing. it was a vibe. My cousin also ordered us a bottle of sake, japanese soda, and some sashimi which was good too. I left very full :) read more

This was hands down the BEST sushi we've ever had! I could make everything gluten free, the people were extremely helpful and friendly, we did get a seat inside and the sushi... omg just to die for! Can't wait to go back read more
Sushi friend is definitely one of my favorite sushi spots in Phoenix right now. Everything tastes so delicious. It's extremely fresh and they have some really fun flavors and combinations and they're constantly adding some new stuff. It's definitely a go to spot for me. I will say I've never dined in. I always take it to go and it's always promptly ready and on time and exactly what I ordered. read more
We enjoyed two specialty sushi platters to take home . The family started ordering sushi from the owner during Covid that he made out of his home . Both platters were filled with unique well " crafted " unique combinations i would highly recommend . My son who loves sushi wife ordered him a sushi birthday cake , unique & enjoyable ( earlier date ) which must be ordered 24 hours in advance . ( another time) There were 4/5 chefs on Friday at 5 pm preparing the food in the open kitchen. Adjacent was a large dinning area . Highly recommended, high quality , satisfying ,clean & healthy . Learned after dinner Sushi Friend is a top sushi spot on Yelp in Phoenix . The north central avenue area seemed becoming more upscale. Delicious and quick service! A lot bigger on the inside than expected, from the outside it looks small and quaint. Very cute vibes and love the yellow throughout. The staff are very kind and helpful and suggested some rolls based on our interests. You order on a tablet and then they bring your food to your table. Two of us split 2 rolls and it was the perfect amount. We did the combo special roll and it was about $35. We ordered the Seared Salmon Roll and Scallop Dyno Roll, both were so good I couldn't pick a favorite! Great little place for some sushi! read more

Can you show me a menu for sushi friend?
Hi! There’s an online menu on our website. If and when the online has been turned off with volume, there’s an offline menu listed. And let me know if you have any other questions.
Do they always have Toro? I see it in reviews but not on their website.
Every time we went in they had it. Best bet is to call ahead and ask if you're concerned. They are so friendly.
I want to pick up an order around 2:30pm on Sept 16, can I place an advance order and choose a pickup time? 1st time ordering
Hi. You can place it early as today at noon and set a pick up time for 2:30.
Is there a time you recommend coming/not coming in order to get a seat? Or how long is the typical wait time?
I’d recommend between 2-4pm. There has been an immediate rush from open and a rush starting around 4-4:30. Typical wait time on a non rush hour is about 15-20 minutes depending on the size of your order.
Do they have anything for a seven year-old boy who is not into sushi? Teriyaki? Anything? I've tried calling several times but they obviously never, ever, answer the phone. Food is supposedly great, but the restaurant operation is a fail.
No. Go to Panda Express with your 7 year old. They are small, don't take phone orders and serve sushi
Which rolls can be prepared gluten-free?
My understanding is that all of their rolls can be made gluten-free!
