A family member and I recently stopped by to try this place out after an appointment in the area. After looking over the menu, we ordered potato croquettes and the cold noodle salad with ham to share. The potato croquettes were okay, nothing outstanding. The cold noodle salad was very light and refreshing. I rarely see this dish being sold anywhere anymore so whenever I see it on menus, it's an immediate must order. I will say that the ham was very salty, next time I order this I'll get it with something different. For our main entrees, we each ordered the Nikumori with a soft-boiled egg. This was delicious, hands down our favorite dish that we tried on this visit. The noodles were bouncy with a nice chew to them and the flavor was plentiful with a good amount of spice to it. Overall, the quality and quantity of the food were reasonable for the prices. Service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. I will say though that there was only one server when we were there, so I would imagine service can be a bit slow once the rush hits. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff, Carlos. Carlos knew the menu really well, super attentive and professional. The only reason why I'm giving this place any stars is because of the waiter Carlos. I mean this in a good way. One of the best services in the district area. As it got closer to lunch the place became packed and he handled it excellently!! However, the food was disappointing. It was quite bland, not authentic Japanese food even though they have many options of several Japanese dishes. I had the Wagu Abura Soba and the Chicken marinade. Barely any real authentic flavors. The noodles were saggy in both of the dishes. The chicken barely had any flavor. I was disappointed. The wagu meat was okay , but rubbery for some reason. We ate the food anyway and were nervous about complaining in the restaurant. I came along with a friend and they had ordered the box. The miso soup that came with it was bland and lacked flavor. It was most likely store bought and not fresh. The gyoza was over fried and hard to chew. The fruit that comes with it comes from either a jar or a can! We couldn't believe the quality.. we paid $20 for the Abura Soba and $15 for the box. It's definitely not worth the money. (This is considered their lunch menu, 2 items). Shortly after eating the food we both rushed home due to becoming sick! I'm not sure which dish it was from but it really shouldn't be taken lightly that both of us became ill after eating here. I'm really not sure if anything in their menu is actually fresh. Everything tasted like it had been frozen and the quality of meat was not good. I hope this can help the restaurant improve for later. We were looking forward to trying this place from all the reviews, ending up being disappointed, not sure if it was not a good night with low staffing in kitchen? Our waiter was friendly but he was the only one serving the whole place. We all enjoyed the broth less ramen I ordered but the wagyu roast beef was not great, basically a grocery store deli cut meat in the ramen. My husband's original aburasoba was lukewarm temperature when he got it, and our son's katsu chicken was perfectly crunchy but he said chicken was meh, he mostly ate the fries. The table we set at was by the windows in corner and the side of the wall was dirty with old broth splatter from several previous customers, edge of table by wall wasn't thoroughly cleaned as it was very greasy. Hopefully the owner will hold their staff accountable to keep up the cleanliness and hire more staff in kitchen to keep food freshness on point when delivered to tables. This is such a good place to eat. I've only been one other time but I had to eat here today since I was at the mall. It did not disappoint. My food was so yummy that there were no leftovers. I ordered the same thing from before which I believe is called Siboro which is noodles with ground chicken , green onions, and noodles. I did ask for the spices to be added thinking it would spice it up , but it did not. It was yummy though. I added a lot of chili oil to spice it up but that did not do anything either. It was still very good though. I enjoyed my time here eating my dinner while reading my book. My waitress was amazing and made sure I and enough water to drink and only checked on me a couple times to make sure I was good since I was deep into my book. When I heard that Kajiken Ramen had opened in Desert Ridge Marketplace (my neighborhood), I was excited. I love ramen. I don't check out restaurants when they first open because it typically takes them a little while to work out all of the kinds. A good amount of time has now passed, so I checked them out for dinner on a Thursday evening. While I walked over, there's plenty of parking in this entertainment and shopping complex. They're located right next to AMC. Ambiance (4/5): Pretty much what you expect from a Japanese ramen spot. Modern, comfortable, and clean. A little on the upscale side without being stuffy. We sat at a table toward the back of the restaurant. It's a relatively small restaurant, that fits around 30 people or so and maybe around 10 on the small outdoor patio. Service (5/5): Pretty much everything you hope for in a service experience. Our waiter was friendly...a nice smile goes a long way. He was consistent, efficient, and stopped by to check in on us at the perfect times. Really no complaints. The only thing that can be improved? Bring a customer copy of the receipt rather than just the merchant copy. This is a standard practice. Drinks (4.5/5): A nice selection of beverages, including Japanese beer and sake. The prices are reasonable, and they even have sake cocktails in a can (I went with the lychee version). My second time trying one. Food (4.5/5): Kajiken is known for their broth-less ramen. For someone who loves traditional ramen, I was skeptical. Yet, when in Rome...so I decided to go with one of their broth-less options that comes with noodles, chasu, green onions, bamboo shoots, nori, and a seasoned egg. Even though there's no broth, think of it as a noodle dish you would get at an Asian restaurant. It was delicious. I also got an order of the potato croquettes which similarly came with green onions and a delicious sauce on top. Delicious yet again. The portion sizes aren't great, my general gripe with Japanese restaurants, but the quality is there. We arrived around 6:00 PM and were seated at a table where the sun hit right in the eyes--unfortunately, the window shades didn't do much to block it. We ordered the Oroshi Ponzu Karaage, Ika Karaage, Homura, and Keema Curry Aburasoba. We had really high expectations for this place, but unfortunately, we left feeling very disappointed. First off, the service was incredibly slow. It was Memorial Day, so maybe they were short-staffed, but at 2:00 PM there was only one server and one chef working. Even though the restaurant wasn't completely full, it took a while just to be seated. After sitting down, it took another chunk of time just to order, and then we waited a solid 30 minutes for our food to arrive. I can't imagine how they would manage if the place was actually busy. As for the food, the fried appetizers were a massive letdown. The karaage was $13 for just five tiny pieces, and the fried squid consisted of only four small tentacles. On top of the tiny portions, the frying technique wasn't nearly as good as what you'd get at other Japanese restaurants. For the main dishes, we tried the aburasoba (soupless noodles). I've had Kajiken in the California Bay Area before, and the flavor profile here was basically the same: extremely salty. However, while the Homura in California comes with chives, the version here used cilantro instead. Also, it's supposed to be topped with a raw egg yolk in the center, but ours came with half a soft-boiled egg instead. The Keema Curry was better by comparison, it wasn't overly salty, and while it looked identical to the Homura, it had a nice curry flavor that made it much less heavy. Overall, thanks for the server who was working incredibly hard that day, he was so busy but very friendly. However, management definitely needs to step up, and the food quality has a long way to go. read more

I ordered karaage to start as I chose the Homura and Curry dry ramen lunch special. thought the curry was fantastic and would order that again. First time at the new AZ location after trying it in Cali! We were really excited since it was so yummy when we had it before. We were seated right away. I was in a soupy mood so I actually got the to katsu ramen, despite the fact that they specialize in the soupless type. It came with one slice of chashu, and no egg. The noodles are different from the ones they use in their regular sobas, and the soup was pretty low in the bowl. Overall definitely not the worst ramen I've ever had, decent toppings, and nice flavor. The star here is the soupless ramens. On Memorial Day they still honored their lunch special, which is 2 half bowls of your choosing, for the price of the more expensive one. We got the curry bowl, and the homura, which was a spicy mincemeat sauce. I personally really liked the curry bowl, I dressed it up with chili oil and vinegar and really loved all the parsley that was included, it wasn't very salty so I thought the light curry flavor was really delicious. My boyfriend really enjoyed the other one, the flavors were more explosive and had an overall more satisfying bite. The lunch special was the perfect way to try two different ones! It has both indoor and patio seating. I ordered a beer while looking over the menu. My dish I got was the Nikumori Aburasobo (spicy minced pork, pork slices, green onion and choice of egg) and my friend had the Tonkotsu Ramen. To note: my friend does not eat pork so they were kind enough to substitute the pork with ground chicken. when the dishes came out the were hot and looked good. I thought my dish was OK, the poached egg was perfect, but the whole dish lacked flavor, was not spicy to begin with at all. I had to add a lot of hot oil to it, which I try not to eat so much oil. The noodles were heavy and by the time I finished, I felt I had a lead ball in my stomach. I think I'm just not used to eating soupless ramen... but I'm glad I tried it, but won't be back. We had been counting down the days until Kajiken opened! My 5-year-old is currently obsessed with K-Pop Demon Hunters, so naturally she has been begging to try ramen. I'll admit, I was a little nervous because this is such an authentic ramen spot, and none of the menu photos looked like something she'd go for. Thankfully, our server immediately put me at ease and let us know she could simply have noodles with broth. Crisis averted, and one very happy little girl! I ordered the traditional chicken ramen with corn, mushrooms, and green onions. Holy moly--the broth was incredible! The chicken wasn't my favorite, but the ramen as a whole was absolutely delicious. The best part, though, was the service. Our server was so friendly, patient, and happy to answer all of our questions. He made our first visit even more enjoyable. After a while became kind of thickening, don't know if that was because of the yogurt, to almost to an overload. Have to say, got to the point where I could not eat anymore, so took home about a little less than half. I actually reheated it at home a few days later, added chicken broth and hom made Char Siu and the flavorful sauce was actually disbursed very nice and the broth was excellent. Kajiken Original was ordered by my daughter and she enjoy her selection, good and full of flavors throughout her meal. I thought they did well in highlighting the raw quality of the individual ingredients, their flavors, and the sauces. I personally love their thick egg noodles and their mushrooms were great. The meat was okay, in both dishes they were a little firm/chewy, not as tender as expected. I really liked the wagyu dish though because the garlic cream sauce that came with it was so unique, so I'd recommend giving that a try. It was pretty filling too. I'd come back for it. Our party of 5 came on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate my aunt and uncle's birthday. It was a 30 minute wait list which was accurate. The host was rude when my aunt thought he pointed at a table for us- "Nope definitely did not say that but I can help you," and when we told him we'd joined the waitlist "Yep you joined 5 minutes ago." We asked about dining outside since there are tables and heaters but the host said they weren't staffed for that. We tried Kajiken at Desert Ridge and now I get why people like it. Abura soba is basically ramen with no broth, just noodles mixed with sauce and oil. Sounds simple, but it's actually really flavorful. I got the Kajiken Original. The chashu was thick and tender, the egg was perfectly jammy, and once you mix everything together, it's savory and very satisfying without feeling too heavy. It's a pretty good size restaurant, and the servers were nice and friendly. We went around 3pm, so it felt more like a tea-time snack than a full meal, which was kind of nice. Came by on a Sunday evening. Very busy as the waitlist was 2 hours. Finally was called to be seated and after reviewing the menu, it took awhile to put our orders in. It also took awhile to get our orders out. We get that it was busy and didn't greatly affect our overall experience. Notable appetizers included the Takoyaki and Potato Croquettes. Both were done nicely and were piping hot. For our Aburasobas, we went with the Kajiken Original, Nikumori, and Soboro. Each bowl was well portioned and well seasoned when mixed properly with the sauce at the bottom of each bowl. There is extra chili oil and vinegar at the table if you feel the need to fine tune the flavor. Overall, a nice experience with very friendly staff. Stopped by Kajiken this afternoon with my husband and was thoroughly impressed! The restaurant is open and it is clean! Looks so nice on the inside and designed well. It's a very comfortable spot and the tables are big enough where you can have multiple food and not feel overwhelmed. We were seated right away and the service was quick! I feel like I barely looked at the menu and he was ready to take my order. They're on top of it! Once we ordered the food was out shortly after! We ordered the Nikumori and the Homura, both were delicious. We didn't have any to spare. No left overs! We devoured our plates. Loved the ramen here. This was my first time trying aburasoba style ramen, where you mix everything together, and it works. They give you vinegar and chili sauce so you can taste it, add a little, mix again, and keep layering the flavor as you eat. I also liked that you can pick how done you want the egg. Service was super friendly too. Here's the thing though. The AC was broken, so it was basically 90 degrees inside, and the patio was closed. They did open it for us since it was a cool 86 degrees outside. No misters or fans, so it still was not great. They were also out of tofu, corn, and a few other add-ons. The ramen that was supposed to come with bamboo shoots didn't. Granted, they haven't been open that long, so I can cut them some slack, but the food was better than the overall operations that day. read more

Came here during the soft opening! Waited about 20 minutes which felt reasonable. The space is not too big or too small! It looks like it can fit about 25-35 people. Tried their nikumori and wagyu roast beef. I love how savory the dry ramen is, and the pork chashu goes really well with it. The wagyu roast beef though felt a bit dry and was different from what I expected. Next time, I'd probably stick with minced pork or chashu slices instead. Side note (personal opinion): the dry ramen tastes even better with a bit of vinegar and you can find vinegar and chili sauce on the table! Also tried the oroshi ponzu karaage and ika karaage. The karaage was soft, moist, and savory, and it pairs really well with their tartar sauce. I loved the ika karaage!! First off, we have been waiting to see this open! And kinda forgot to come back for it (desert ridge is more of a winter activity for us but we watched the spiderman movie so had to finally stop by!) immediately 5 stars for the service. I believe his name was Carlos (young man with dark hair+glasses at 5 pm Tuesday). Super friendly when walking in, checking in, great knowledge of menu and recommendations, and checked in on us continuously WHILE the dinner rush kept picking up! Even had time for quick conversations and wow 10/10 guy. For food, ramen was super yummy. Almost on par with my boyfriend's homemade ramen. Delicious and the vinegar+chili oil on tables was a nice touch! I want to come back for the rice bowls and appetizers. The area was super nice and chill, instructions even on the wall!
