So many five star reviews I had to try it! But here's the down and dirty after visiting Yama Sushi House twice. The first time it was 2:00 p.m. on Mother's Day and very few tables were occupied. This is a large beautifully decorated restaurant with many spacious booths, tables and a glass private dining room up front. We walked in past the chalkboard, an A-frame sign that said happy hour every day 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. We asked the hostess where is happy hour seating, and she said happy hour is everywhere. BUT we're not offering it today, because we are so busy. I indicated the sign outside says happy hour is every day, so if it's not available today you should remove it. She did not. We left without being seated, therefore spending no money. Why would you turn away paying customers, even if they sit at the empty bar and spend a dollar less per item on happy hour specials? I returned at 4 on a Saturday afternoon by myself and was seated at the bar in the back by the hostess. There was a group in an enclosed glass party room to the right, otherwise the rest of the restaurant was pretty empty. A male bartender was very engrossed in making fancy drinks presumably for the large party. He did not greet me or make eye contact in any way for a LONG TIME, until he knocked some glasses off the counter with his elbow. One and shattered, the other bounced and he picked it up and put it back on the counter to be used for the next drink. I said that needs to be washed, and he glanced but still didn't acknowledge me. I later pointed this out to the woman who was sweeping up the broken glass. Because I could not tell her exactly which front row glass was dirty, she took all the nearby glassware off the counter to wash, just to be safe. Bravo! While I was waiting to order my first drink and perusing the menu, I had questions about the ingredients of a couple of the happy hour rolls that are not on the dinner menu. I flagged down the hostess and she tried to answer, although it was clearly not her expertise. After discovering the Godzilla roll was deep fried I did not order it. The other question was about the ingredients in the Hot Night Roll which I do not recall but if it was tuna that's why I didn't choose it. So to the host, if the roll is not listed on your regular menu, you need to spell out the ingredients somewhere else (or on the happy hour menu). Then low and behold, the male bartender materialized at my left elbow ready to take my order. Water and hot sake please! He was very pleasant and actually conversational, so I am not sure what happened when I was first seated (with his concentration on mixing drinks unbroken to simply smile or tip his head to greet at a newly seated guest). To this day, I'm not sure he's aware that his treatment of that dirty glass was a serious health violation and he's lucky I wasn't the inspector. I started with soybeans and squid. Edamame is discounted at happy hour, and was a nice fresh portion with just the right amount of sea salt. There was no discard bowl provided, so I tucked them into the plate around the bowl until I had to stack them up separately. Odd. Squid salad is also discounted at happy hour and tasted fantastic. Very large pieces of fish. Good sized chopped vegetables, which were clearly fresher and brighter than most commercially offered squid salads. There was no lettuce filler underneath. Nice. California roll was tasty, no complaints. Spicy salmon roll was ok, I was getting pretty full and it wasn't my favorite but that is not the fault of Yama. I will note the fish was chopped more coarsely (inside the roll), And this roll had a tendency to come apart. This salmon felt more like hand chopped, versus some restaurants who scoop it out of a premade bucket in a fine grind. Again, nice. The large sake came up at $7 for happy hour. This is actually less than the bartender had quoted me so, yay! It was a fat clay carafe, heavy enough to keep the sake warm through your meal. Also very attractive. There was a long pause when I was ready for the bill. I spoke to another server and got my check delivered by the missing bartender. Both of them offered me a box, but as I was not going straight home, I did leave behind some of my edamame and spicy salmon roll. I see a small business doing a lot of things right with food quality and preparation. Service was a little spotty. Bathrooms were very clean. I would happily try another meal at Yama Sushi House, and experience the table service.

Hungry for Asian food today. My voice this fine establishment. Interior is very comfy, elegant. Staff very good. I ordered sizzling Teriaki steak. The dteak was tender, well done, great presentation. The teriyaki sauce not to sweet. My dinner companion had the shaggy dog roll. Was good however it was some what dry. Viper roll on the money. I only gave you 4 stars for two minor things. One soy sauce was under the bottles and stained table. Two I asked for silverware to cut my steak. It was not delivered. However both situations were corrected. When we came in only about 15 people. When we left about 50 people. Very good restaurant I would highly recommend. See you soon.

I ordered delivery but I'm still leaving a review. I am very disappointed for 30 bucks I received shrimp and red tuna! I would at least expect salmon or yellowtail. But no! Like 6 pieces of red tuna and 4 of shrimp. The freshness of the sashimi was fine and the taste but I am beyond words that I got shrimp which I would hardly consider sashimi to begin with and red tuna. I was really looking forward to a wider variety of options. Especially for a chefs choice selection. I don't usually order sashimi due to the cost but decided I wanted to splurge a bit. I feel very upset about this. Update: I know the business owner responded to me but he has not "been in contact" with me consistently. Last email was from the 13th and I responded on the 13th.

Walked and were seated in about 1 minute. The establishment was clean with good decor. What made this different was the server took our drink orders, delivered them and then left so we could pursue the menu. We ordered the Sweet and Spicy Calamari, a Shaggy Dog Roll and USDA Beef Short Ribs. Food was delivered in a timely manner. The Beef Short Ribs were delivered on a cadt iron skillet and were steaming hot, came with rice and was delious. Shaggy Dog Roll and Sweet and Spicy Calamari were also very good. Would definitely recommend this place for good food.

Woohoo! A good restaurant in an area swamped with fast food and chains. We went last night and I was not disappointed. They have done a beautiful job renovating the former Times Square site, clean, elegant, colorful. The sushi bar is large. We were struck by how quickly the sushi came out, given that we frequent another restaurant of similar size and quality, but the food arrival is sporadic and takes a fair amount of time to arrive. We ordered a toro blue fin nigiri, which I'm told was very good but I thought pricy. Two nigiri were $16! I had a shaggy dog- salmon, cream cheese, cucumber and honey topped with shaggy crab stick, a drizzle of eel sauce and red tobiko. I thought it was an unusual pairing of ingredients with a fun look. It was not overly sweet and the salmon was fresh and tender. The tobiko added a fun crunch/pop. The spicy tuna roll was as expected. And the wasabi brings the heat! Interestingly, the rolls were reasonably priced.

We went here on Valentines Day so it was super busy and the wait was long, but it was worth it! The staff was literally running trying to turn over tables and food came out fast. Everyone was friendly and helping each other and we love to see that. The wall paintings are really nice and it's a good place for a date night for sure!

So happy to see a great sushi place in this business plaza. Came for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Elevated and elegant ambiance no matter where you are seated. Seated myself at the bar area and was greeted by the amazingly friendly staff. Menu had a good selection, but I mostly stuck with nigiri options. Couldn't pick a favorite, but everything seared was perfect! Bluefin and Amberjack were very fresh. Sweet shrimp was nicely done and the heads were deliciously fried as expected. My server (Kenzie) was awesome and attentive the entire time. The owner was quite nice and prepared the majority of my orders. Overall, a great experience and I expect this to be a frequent stop for me. Please treat yourselves and show this new place some support!

Service was great and attentive. Restaurant is pretty and the decor really compliments one another. Spacious for big parties as well! The sushi was really yummy and affordable!

Beautiful and clean inside. Sushi was fresh and flavorful. Staff was so friendly. The only thing we didnt like is our noodles were sweet...almost too sweet for my brother to eat.

We've been back 3 more times to try different items on the menu. 1 time was for takeout. We tried the 2 different ramens, the tonkotsu and the miso ramen. Tonkotsu was good, miso didn't have much flavor. Same for the regular miso soup that we had another time. I've had the house garden salad twice. I loved it the first time but the second time I got shredded lettuce vs spring mix. Still good but wasn't consistent. We tried the beef chow mein. More like yakisoba but it was still yummy. Service has been par. We're going to still come for the sushi. Its quality fish. We love the ambiance. The last couple times we went there has been a heavy sulfur smell. Not sure what's going on there.

What a treat to have this restaurant nearby. Having been to their other locations, we were not disappointed. I love the interior. Lush greenery (some wallpaper, some 3D) covers the walls and even with the busting servers, there is a relaxed and calm atmosphere. They have a gorgeous little glassed-in private dining room that could probably hold about 20--perfect for a lunch meeting or family gathering. This location was fairly new yet the service was impeccable--fast and friendly with great suggestions. The sushi and sashimi was perfection; as beautiful to look at as it was to eat. It was fresh tasting and delicious and I left with a craving for more bluefin. We stuck to tea but they have a nice wine selection. This location is going to be a nice addition to the neighborhood.

This brand new spot is coming in hot with some incredible sushi. We tried a Vegas roll, edamame, and .... Two other sushi rolls... when I can remember which two I will update this. They are all delicious though. The service was on point. Definitely upscale vibe with affordable pricing.

The chef kindly gave me this item to try, and it was delectable.

The shrimp was excellent. Very early in our meal they were persistent in clearing our table. (Um, we kinda wanted another glass of wine...). Why? The place wasn't packed. Why the rush? The food is fine, as I mentioned, but the vibe was off for us. I originally wanted the Asahi but they were out of it so they gave me a Japanese Lager from Los Angeles (?), blanking on the name. The Caipirinia was the other drink which was made authentically as well. No complaints on the bartender. Food was 3 Bao Buns and a Chow Mein entree with grilled chicken added on top. This was the perfect amount of food for 2 people. The Bao Buns were extremely soft and light on the breading. If you get them from Din Tai Fung they tend to be dough heavy. These were NOT like that. Chicken and Eggplant buns were tasty and had a light kick to them. Noodles were probably the weakest items, I prefer the rice/flat noodles, but these were normal chow mein noodles. It's probably the fanciest Chinese restaurant I've been to in AZ. The lunch menu is excellent and quite impressive! There are 8 entrees to choose along with a side for only $20. What's crazy is that a full size seafood and wagyu beef belly jjampong is a side! They're regularly $24 so it's a crazy deal to get an additional entree!! We ordered seafood jjampong and wagyu beef jjampong as sides and genghis khan beef and chili garlic fried chicken as mains. The jjampong had that great umami taste without the oiliness that's unavoidable at other restaurants. The ingredients felt very premium and fresh.
