Tonkatsu - great portion served with a side house salad and white rice and a generous portion of katsu sauce. Really glad we shared this entree between two people. Netflix Roll - a roll that just makes sense. Great flavor, sweet mayo sauce was really good. Perfect bite size. Large Sapporo to share - served in an ice cold cup!! First time here. Our server was incredibly sweet and her smile made us feel at home. The service is great. You can write on the menu to order or just verbal with the server. Space is clean. My friend and I were in the area (Glendale) when we wanted lunch around 11:30. I came upon this place through my searches. So Glad we did! Right when we walked in the door, we had a warm greeting from Sohui, the hostess and our server. The atmosphere was very trendy, upbeat with colorful murals on the walls. We ordered a Sake Bomber while looking over the menu which was quit extensive. We ordered Salmon, Yellowtail, Uni, and Eel Nigiri. In addition we ordered a Lollipop Roll, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll, Spicy Yellowtail Hand Roll and a Salmon Skin Hand Roll. All the Sushi was presently beautifully. The quality of fish was excellent... all tasting wonderful. LOL to note: my friend is very particular on how he likes his Spicy Tuna Hand Rolls to be VERY VERY SPICY while tasting great! Overall, we had a really nice meal at Yellowtail Sushi and Sake! When we came in early dinner time, the place was completely empty. That's usually a bit of a warning sign, but didn't let that stop us from sitting down. We opted for a table, but they also have some bar-style seating as well. Started off with a Sapporo on draft. It came in a chilled glass--always a nice touch! Had fast service and wait staff was kind and attentive. We split the gyoza. This was my least favorite part of the meal. It was a bit more oily than I would have liked. Then he ordered a plate of sushi, and I got the ramen. He enjoyed his sushi, but thought it was good but nothing special. I did really like my ramen and the broth was very good! They had a couple of dessert options, but we passed on them. Overall, it was a nice mix up from where we normally go! Don't know that I'd make the trip back any time soon because we are spoiled for choice living in the Valley. But if you're in the area, it's worth a try! read more

I tried out of their specialty sushi rolls and their egg fried rice. What I really loved about the roll was that it was actually spicy. The egg fried rice was only slightly above average, but they give you a ton of rice for just $8. Service was a bit inattentive, but the food was absolutely fantastic. If you've been to Japan and miss the quality of sushi, you need to try this spot! It's a small restaurant with a dozen or so tables and sushi bar seating, but what really matters is the care that goes into each roll. We ordered the seared salmon nigiri and the fresh (not paste!) wasabi on top took me right back to Narita. We also tried the spicy edamame which probably had 10 cloves of garlic chopped up in it which was perfect for my taste! Really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. read more

My normal sushi place was closed so we ventured over here. Very unassuming entrance. Was concerning that it was completely dead at 530 pm but sat and was brought water right away. Sapporo on draft - chilled glasses were a nice touch. We got gyoza to start, with the tonkatsu ramen and red eye roll- spicy tuna/yellowtail mix. Both were very good quality and tasty. My only note is that the sushi wasn't as tightly rolled as you'd expect- the rolls kind of fell apart when you tried to pick them up. Other wise tasted great! Tonkatsu was a huge portion and tasted good. Probably won't be a staple in our rotation because of how far it is from us - but it was a good experience and the staff was very nice and attentive. read more

We tried Yellowtail for the first time last week. We were impressed. Not the most incredible sushi spots but a pleasant experience. It's a cute spot with nice decorations. It has a good amount of tables. Staff was attentive and kind. They gave great recommendations and checked on us multiple times. We ordered the Big Sumo roll, the My Friend Ben roll, and the mini roll combo (soft shell crab, rainbow, and half/half roll) . Shirley Temples have free refills, which was a pleasant surprise. The big sumo was our favorite. It's was very fresh and a great portion. The mini roll combo was a great way to try several rolls without committing to the 8-10 pieces. Only disappointment were that the rainbow roll was only salmon on top. I would definitely be back for their happy hour. read more

The previous restaurant at this location was Sakana, but we hadn't returned after they downsized the space. We discovered Yellowtail Sushi and Sake by accident while browsing Google and Yelp and decided to give it a try. Interestingly, the previous Yellowtail was located on 83rd Avenue. As we walked in, we were impressed by the beautiful wall paintings. The restaurant isn't very big, but the high ceilings and bright lighting create a warm and inviting atmosphere. We were seated at a table for two, which felt a bit small for the large serving plates. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. We ordered raw oysters, uni nigiri, uni handrolls, soft shell crabs, chirashi, omakase, and OToro sashimi. Every single dish was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious! The prices are very reasonable, making this spot a fantastic find. We're so happy to have discovered this hidden gem and are excited to return to try their Happy Hour and lunch menu! read more

Our second time here and it was every bit as good as the first. The fish is incredibly fresh and high quality. The AZ Special roll is incredible, the lemon on the inside of the roll balances the fish so well. The sashimi is excellent quality and appreciate the fresh wasabi. First time at Yellowtail and the experience was average at best. Tried the chirashi bowl and was disappointed that it included artificial crab. A very low cost American strip mall style touch that I've not seen prior. Not impressed. Google chirashi bowl and you won't see pics with such a low quality ingredient. While most of the fish was good, the salmon was not fresh, tasting and smelling fishy. Dining alone on a Friday night, I decided to choose the bar spot furthest from the door to ensure groups or couples who may want to sit at the bar had sufficient room. This was a big mistake. A servers/bussing cart is right next to this spot at the bar. Plates were constantly and very loudly crashing into the plate collection bowls. With the water bucket and wet rags to wipe down the counters and tables there was a foul odor emanating from the cart. The restaurant should move this cart away from any dining area. read more

We are so happy to have Yellowtail Sushi back!! We were so bummed when the one on 83rd and union had closed a couple years ago, but now everything is right again! My personal favorites are their cucumber salad and their sunset roll, but everything they have is amazing. For the last couple years, I have tried a cucumber salad at every sushi restaurant I tried, and none of them ever compared to Yellowtail's. The owner and chef, Ken, is wonderful!! Not to mention, all the staff are friendly and welcoming. Everything came out so quickly, that we had to play tetris to fit everything on our table. We came on a Saturday evening as a special treat and the whole experience was great! We got the gyoza appetizer (phenomenal!) and 4 sushi rolls - came out to about $70. I was shocked at how quickly the first sushi rolls came out! By far the quickest service I've had at sushi place. Everything tasted amazing and I loved that our server regularly checked on our drinks and filled them before we had to ask.
