Great experience for out first time here. We went out to celebrate our anniversary and this place was the perfect spot. Our waitress was super attentive made great recommendations and the manager on duty was phenomenal. They sent out some surprise items I wouldn't have picked out on my own and they definitely made good choices. My favorite is the truffle salmon, I love sashimi and it hit the spot. Next favorite was the iguana it had a good refreshing taste and the tempura came out hot and tasty. Spanish fly was pretty good but next time I will shoot for more spicy and try the Godzilla. We came here with four of us and it was an early night. We got reservations at 6 PM and I ordered the China doll cocktail. It was absolutely delicious and had amazing flavors to it. We then ordered some sashimi and some maki rolls. My favorite was the green eggs and Hana maki roll. Miso soup is by far my favorite thing in the world but I just didn't love it. There was a little bit of a smell that didn't sit right with me. My husband on the other hand loved it! We ordered the Tidal Wave Roll, the Shrimp Tempura Roll, and, of course, our all-time favorite, the shishito peppers. The peppers are consistently flavorful with just the right amount of char, and they're a must-order every time we visit. The sushi was fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavor. The Tidal Wave Roll was a standout, while the Shrimp Tempura Roll delivered the perfect balance of crunch and freshness. We came in for happy hour which I thought offered a great selection of sushi, apps, and drinks. The china doll cocktail wasn't very strong but I loved the flavor that the jasmine tea gave the drink. As for sushi we decided to try a handful of things on the happy hour menu. I didn't find the mango crab ragoons to have that much of a mango flavor. I saw the mango sauce but there was not enough of it. We tried the lion king roll, the tidal wave roll, the crunchy blue roll, and the Cabo roll. I was not a huge fan of the crunchy blue or the Cabo. They are very simple rolls but I was disappointed in the amount of tuna in my Cabo roll. I have honestly never had a roll with such a tiny amount of fish before but for the price I can't complain. We loved the lion king roll though! We ordered a second one. The service was overall good. I would say for how slow the restaurant seemed it took a little while to get us seated. It also took a little while for a host to make their way over but from there on I feel like the service was good and the food came out in a timely manner. One and done, although edible we will not go back. Although tolerable there is far better sushi with absolutely " no comparison" to Trappers. Trappers is in its own separate league of greatness. Whoever made that review has not had Trappers. And since I'm being honest, I'll tell you why. The 3 rolls we ordered were either made early in morning or day before. Yesterday's sushi served at Blue Sushi is just that - the taste, texture refrigerated dried out rice coldness of yesterday's leftovers. Service was slow. We sat for 10 minutes, asked for menu and after another 5 minutes we had to get up and walk to front desk to get our menu. Hence several other requests were yet another 5-10 minute delays. I have to say the 2 stars are more for the restaurant's cleanliness, upbeat music, beautifully designed Asian feel and center piece being the liquor bar. As well, I was impressed with the presentation of our sushi rolls but again a false representation for they were refrigerated cold, old-dried out rice, leftover taste. Sadly, no showcase of the area where the chef's are suppose to be at work for which there was only one chef behind the counter, during our 90 minute meal, further proving my point the sushi is not made to order, not fresh. That one chef we observed was to perhaps sprinkle the nuts or topper of selected sushi varieties. I believe my review is important - this restaurant is NOT comparable to Trapper's. Trapper's is 5 star, freshly made with a 6 or more chefs actively slicing dicing engaging with customers and tending their freshly made sushi rolls behind the counter. read more

We've been to the Blue Sushi in Tempe but the paid parking is annoying, so we thought we'd take a day trip to Surprise and check out some thrift/antique stores while out west. To start - the drive there from north central Phoenix is unpleasant. We meandered through surface streets and got lost a few times, but we made it eventually. Next time (if there is one) we'll take the longer freeway route. The layout/feel is the same as Tempe - well decorated, open, comfortable and a touch chilly. We were seated immediately and our waiter was right on the spot. We went for their Veganuary specials but ended up ordering of the extensive all day happy our menu instead. I got the vegan lettuce wraps while my husband ordered the Eden rolls - both vegan. I also got a Night Swim saki. My lettuce wraps came out quickly and were perfect. I really love them! The tofu is prepared well - cooked but not dry - and it's just delicious. However, I was almost done with my meal by the time my husband's rolls came out. They were not slammed - it was mid-afternoon on a Tuesday and only maybe five other tables seated. We were near the sushi area so we saw our waiter check twice - it wasn't his fault - they were just really slow. Thusly, minus one star from my review. When they did arrive - they were great. No worries there. But it did seem a bit excessive. Our waiter was apologetic and put up with our talk story for a bit. Overall, we'll go back for the vegan options, but probably to Tempe. read more

This was our first time to this restaurant and really enjoyed our experience. The wait staff was friendly and decor and ambience in this place was upscale / modern. We had the ceviche as an appetizer which was fresh and tasty along with some spicy edamame. We tried a few different sushi rolls and loved the fact that they have an all day happy hour on Sunday's with a wide variety of items to choose from. We ordered so much I forgot to take note of which rolls specifically we had but all were tasty and plentiful. The miso soup was also a great start to the meal. I am glad that they don't always recognize me here yet, but this is one of my favorite places to come and eat at. I'm glad they did the veganuary this year I think last year it was just the Phoenix location. Regardless I always have great service here no matter who I can convince to tag along with me. I appreciate the large menu they have for everyone I've managed to help even the pickiest eaters find something to get here while I go crazy on their expansive vegan offerings. The foods always fresh and taste great. The staff is always attentive and helpful and don't make me feel silly when I come without friends or family or when they've seen me come within a few short days of my last visit. This visit to blue sushi sake Grill was average at best. I've been multiple times and have had a better experience. Today we came on a Sunday which has all day happy hour. I honestly don't feel the happy hour menu is as strong as I would expect or want. And that's my fault and it's very limited overall from each category and it might be a couple bucks here and there that you save. With that, we opted to have a few items off of the happy hour menu, but the rest was off the main menu. We did not have any alcohol/cocktails. We had the Cabo roll in LA roll, thriller, tuna tower, lettuce, wraps, and the coconut crab soup. The soup is always the best. However, I will say we did order one to go and it came in when I thought was a smaller container than the actual presentation in the restaurant in a black bowl. I could be totally wrong, but I guess observation and perception is everything. We definitely did not care for the thriller roll and and would not order that again. Service was friendly and professional, and started out attentive, but towards the end of the meal waned off a little. We had to wait for longer periods for check backs and have our plates removed and we never received any water refills although we were asked multiple times if we wanted a soda refill. Cool vibes great music. We sat at a table along the garage window doors, but the sun was blasting through it and by the end of our meal towards 3:30 PM we were cooking. We probably would've moved sooner in our meal had we anticipated this. There's a large variety of Nigiri, sushi, and including vegan and vegetarian options, which are great. However, I feel some of the rolls are just the same components with a different sauce, for example tuna or crab mix, and then top with ponzu or an eel sauce it's basically the same thing. We probably would come back as it's convenient. Parking in the entire center can be challenging so bring your patience. read more

I first tried this franchise in Omaha, NE 2 years ago and I have raved about it ever since. The closest one to me is in Ohio, which is about an 8 hour drive, so once I heard this opened up near my sister in Peoria, I told her immediately this is where I wanted to go when I visit her. I remember loving the charred edamame, and while it was still good, this one was way too salty. I don't remember it being salty before so not sure if this was a bad batch we got or if it's always that salty. My favorite thing about it though is the crispy garlic and charred flavor. The rolls were just as amazing as I remembered. As a vegetarian, it makes me so happy to have such unique vegan options! Of the two I got, the Thai Hippie was my favorite (and was last time too). I also got the China Doll cocktail, which was so cute and super refreshing. I don't like drinks that taste like alcohol and this one definitely didn't, nor was it too sweet. They had happy hour going on and the server was super friendly and helpful suggesting maki. Happy hour runs basically the entire time the place is open--11am-6:30pm Monday-Saturday & all day Sunday). I moved to AZ 6 years ago and every sushi place I tried either didn't taste fresh, tried too hard to be unique to the point where they rolls were gross, or skimped on the fish and filled the roll with cucumber or some other filler that just left it bland and lackluster. Something unique that we have not had anywhere else. The flavor was Amazing! The shishito peppers were delicious and there were definitely a few that were very spicy. The mango crab rangoons were not too sweet and the mango sauce was perfect with it. Sushi: Cherry Bomb was a bit of a let down as it sounds like it will be spicy, and there was really no heat. Good flavors though. Our kids got The Hawaiian. It was okay, but the kids loved it and the sauce it came with. The Rainbow roll, a classic that delivered. The freshness of the fish was spot on. The Tidal Wave was another one for the kids that they loved. Our two favorite rolls. The Crunchy LA and the Lion King. The sweet chili sauce on the Crunchy LA was problematically delicious.
