Sushi's always great. Mochi and Tempura cheesecake were delicious! Our waitress was lovely.

We come here almost every time we are in town. Always clean, friendly, delicious. Food is always fresh. PLENTY of parking.

Yellowtail Scallion Roll and Salmon Roll both on soy paper

I tried uni sushi for the first time. I ordered a miso soup, yellowtail scallion roll on soy paper, and salmon roll on soy paper. The miso soup was good, just like any other miso soup. I really enjoyed both my rolls! The fish was very fresh and had great flavor. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I definitely would come back.

Thick doughy batter of the tempura plate.

Our normal Japanese restaurant was closed on Sunday, so we decided to try this place. Tempura batter is way too thick, doughy, and it's not crispy. Tempura bell pepper isn't normally supposed to be served either. We left the plate half full as the tempura batter was not desirable to anyone in our party. The sashimi was fresh and the cuts a decent size. I asked for ponzu sauce and they had a choice of regular ponzu and garlic ponzu sauce. The garlic ponzu sauce was quite good, a bit strong, so use sparingly. Would I come back? Probably not.

From left the Buffalo roll, golden California, red snapper roll, and salmon sashimi.

Greeted and seated right away as always. Large open space but seats are old and torn. Waitress was so sweet, helpful & patient. We ordered egg rolls, saki bombers & beer to start. Egg rolls were crispy but more bready than usual. Still flavor was great. Saki bombers were so good. Bf had salmon sashimi he loved it. My son had the yakisoba with chicken and he ate every single bit. We ordered three sushi rolls from the happy hour menu. We loved the flavors in every single one. The Golden California was our favorite. It just had the best mixture of textures and flavor. A little sweet. The Buffalo roll was so delicious and a little spicy, but fell apart probably because it's a baked roll. Then the red snapper roll, which was good. My only complaint would be the bathroom. It was clean enough, but you could tell so many repairs were made over another. The toilet moved when you sat on it. Good thing I didn't go for the bathroom because the food is always amazing here.

Grilled Salmon Teriyaki

This visit I decided to try the lunch steak and salmon teriyaki. Salmon was delicious! I feel the portion was slightly smaller than the last time I had the lunch salmon but I also had the steak so I wasn't too upset. But the steak was a little too well done for my taste, also really thin. I wouldn't pay for steak in the future and will just stick to the teriyaki salmon. Service was friendly and I will definitely visit again.

Beef Bulgogi

I was so looking forward to trying this restaurant....and well, I wish I kept the idea of "this looks like a great restaurant" because it wasn't. The best part was our waitress. We order a tuna poke appetizer which was actually good (hence the two stars) so we were excited for our main entree. The lunch entrees all came with white rice, salad, and soup. The soup was actually decent but the salad was a little lack luster. On to the main dish...my husband had the Katsu (chicken) and I had bulgogi. My husband meal was pretty decent...chicken wasn't too dry. On the other hand, my bulgogi was so dry that our waitress even brought me two different sauces so maybe I could choke it down. Needless to say, not much was eaten. I don't think we'll be back.

Food is pretty, the service was amazing, has the nicest host. Would go back to try different rolls maybe

Sushi on Friday!!

Got a good reference for sushi nearby and decided to try it. Surprisingly was very good but with some issues. Restaurant was clean and service was spot on, love this part about it. Also the hours were open during the day so better than some other sushi spots. Fish: mixed review here, yellowtail sushi great, salmon sushi was not the best. Tasted fishy and that ruins it fast, maybe sat a little too long. Good salmon sushi is like melting butter in your mouth, this was not it. Rolls were solid with Philly outstanding. California roll was good also. Just the salmon wasn't on par. Cooked food: ok here I was surprised to find the bulgogi spicy pork simply delicious. I'd come back just to have that meal again. Overall I gave 4 stars because something as common as salmon sushi should always be the freshest, or we will know and not come back. Saving grace here was the exemplary service and cooked food spicy pork.

Good space for date night, girl's night out, or a group event. There are booths & tables available. The food arrived timely. The only negative is, although rolls were ordered by each one of us, they were presented on the same serving dish. I guess this would cut down on table clutter, but it forces two people that may not have that bond to share Wasabi and ginger. Overall, the food and the service was good. Due to distance, I probably will not be a regular. However, I'd recommend the restaurant to those who live nearby The restaurant is in a strip, so plenty of parking.

Attention to detail matters

Was so excited to try this place and it didn't disappoint! With Uni in its' name I was praying they had uni and they did! I know it's seasonal but since it's winter I had my hopes up. Just here for the night but any Phoenicians on the west side looking for good sushi, give this place a try! Service was friendly and super fast for a Friday night. Got my uni fix!

The $15 lunch Sushi Combo A
Jeff B.

First time at Uni Sushi and Steak. I arrived at 2:30 on a Monday afternoon and it was nearly empty. Obviously I was greeted quickly by my server, who offered me something to drink right away. I ordered the Sushi lunch special A: it came with my choice of salad, soup, entree and sushi roll. I got the ginger-dressing salad, miso soup, beef bulgolgi and a spicy crab roll. The salad was crisp and fresh with mixed greens, purple cabbage, carrots and cucumbers for color and crunch. The miso soup was hot and rich with a strong miso flavor. It had a few bits of tofu and scallions. It was good but I wasn't there for the salad or soup. The Beef Bulgolgi was good but was lacking the tenderness that bulgolgi demands. It was sliced thinly but needed the marination in pear to achieve the tender bite. The meat was also sliced a little sloppily, leaving a few pieces connected to each other. There are no knives on oriental tables, so that was a challenge. The Spicy Crab Roll was 8 pieces and had plenty of spice. No complaints there. The dish also arrived with 4 pieces of tempura, which was a nice touch. I saw six televisions throughout the restaurant. There was also moody, hip music playing. I will return to Uni when I get up this way again.

This place seemed like our best bet. Since this time of year is busy in AZ with so many snowbirds, I booked a reservation through the online portal. It didn't end up being necessary. We were seated right away and never asked about our reservation. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. From the parking lot, it looks small and more like a fast food place, but it is actually looks double the size once you get inside. It has a nice sit-down ambience with new, clean, and somewhat rigid booths. Straight posture was definitely encouraged here in these upright seats. Although it does seem like a lot of people might order items to go, we were shielded from any traffic while eating. To start, we shared some sushi rolls. The spicy salmon was nice, but I really liked the sweetness of the unagi eel roll. They were a little sloppy in preparation, but this didn't impact the flavor. Each plate came with 8 pieces of sushi, some sliced ginger, and a small ball of wasabi. My uncle asked for an additional plate of wasabi and the server delivered it, but he commented on how they usually end up throwing it away because most people don't eat much of the green ball of fire. The table had a container of disposable chopsticks as well as two types of soy sauce. I was delighted to find the 50% less sodium variety with the green label. small plates with one paper napkin each were part of the setup. We had to ask our server for more napkins after my husband splatter soy sauce all over himself. The server brought just two more. It really wasn't enough to fix the 101-dalmatian spots he had acquired from the black soy splattered all over his white jacket. We also ordered curry. My uncle indulged in the pumpkin curry with shrimp. The bowl was massive - much bigger than mine. I had the red curry with tofu. It was beautifully presented with perfectly formed cubes of extra firm tofu lined up in the yellow soup. There was also bright red strips of bell pepper adding a pop of contrasting color. Unfortunately it didn't seem like my curry was well blended. It was as if they added cold coconut milk to a hot pan and it possibly heated up too fast causing it to separate and slightly curdle. Despite this, it still tasted good. I did have some trouble with the large size of tofu and the length of the bell pepper strips. I wish both had been just a tad bit smaller to fit in my mouth. I only had a spoon, so cutting the pieces wasn't an option. To go, I ordered the spicy green beans with shrimp to take home to my mom. She enjoyed two meals out of it. The shrimp was large and plump. Plus there was no shell or tail to pull off making it much easier and more pleasant to eat. Our bill came out to just over $100 with iced tea and sake added to the above. It seemed reasonable for the five plates we ordered. We had come during happy hour where certain items are a dollar cheaper, but I don't think we ended up ordering off that discounted menu. All and all, it was a decent meal and experience. I might come back here because of the convenient location and the availability of both sushi and Thai curry on the menu.

I really enjoy the ambiance and service there, but learned quickly that with larger groups the Peoria location is best for us. One of my kids graduated from college last week and he wanted to celebrate. All he wanted was to have sushi and to celebrate with our relatives who came from out of state. We didn't know if it'd be doable since we were on the other side of the valley. We called, gave them our party size (12) and eta. Low and behold, they were able to get us a reservation. We get on the road to make it to our reservation 0745-0800, they close at 1000pm worse case scenario we get there by 0800 and we still have a good amount of time for the AYCE 90 minute experience. We get there and they have a sign out for the AYCE, last call 0830pm. We go inquire about the last call and our reservation being at 0745. They reassure us that we would still get the full 90 minute experience. At about 0800pm they tell us our table they thought would be available is not available, they say individual parties instead. A guy comes out and tells us that the time frame they gave us was an estimated time, we let him know that was not what were told, but we also got a text confirmation. He tells us, well the Weather is nice. We can accommodate you outside. We agreed. They got the tables all settled and we're about to sit down. The same older man tells us, that the last call is 0830PM, ummm what? They tell us well we can try and get everything in, but the last call is at 0830. You can stay until 0900, what?! I let him know that was not what there hostess had told us, we told him they said we'd still be served and given the 90 Minute experience. He said well I don't know why they told you that, I am going to have to go let them know that is not the case. It's now well past 0800pm and restaurants are closing soon and we are a large party. I was incredibly disappointed at how everything was handled, and how easy it was for the gentleman to just dismiss and shrug his shoulders like oh well. I was incredibly disappointed at how everything was handled, and how easy it was for the gentleman to just dismiss and shrug his shoulders like oh well. What was supposed to be a special celebration for our son's graduation turned into unnecessary stress and disappointment. We made the reservation based on the information their staff provided and planned accordingly, only to be told something completely different once we arrived. Had we been told upfront that they couldn't honor the full AYCE experience or accommodate our party as promised, we would have made other arrangements. After being loyal customers and recommending this place to family and friends, this experience made it clear that customer service and honoring commitments are not a priority. Unfortunately, that was our last visit For reference, when they sent the last text, we were already onsite.
