I stopped by at Yen Sushi and this place never disappoints! Everything is always so yummy. I love the vibes in here. I also love you can see the sushi bar when you walk in and you can sit by it and watch them get to work on the sushi making! It's pretty cool. The service is always good when I stop by. My friend got the fried shrimp appetizer and she loved it! We both also got the chicken teriyaki bowl with rice and omg soooo good! Their teriyaki sauce is so heavenly! I always ask for extra cause it's that darn good!! My son got the beef teriyaki bowl and wow his looked and tasted amazing! Definitely gonna get that next time! He loved it and finished his whole plate! He keeps talking about it haha. Definitely will be returning. Highly recommend to check this place out if you have not already.

We decided on this place for our monthly girl dinner. Got there at 6 pm. We got sat right away. Drink order right away. We took a few to look at the menu. It was a bit hectic because it did not seem there was one waitress more like everyone helped everyone. We put our order in and that took about 40 minutes to get the sushi. Which was a bit long. But the food was very good. I got the yellow tail sashimi , the baked scallop roll and the yellow tail scallion roll. All so very good. The ambiance was a bit loud and hectic but again the food was good.

Ok this place!!! Our new go to spot after going to kabuki for years! Great service, Great fresh sushi, great happy hour!! Just all around 5 stars. Glad we found a new sushi home and we visit often! They have a sushi bar and regular seating, not a huge place but when busy it's pretty packed!

This is off their all day happy menu. I had the salmon tempura roll, the spicy tuna roll and the crispy rice spicy tuna roll.

The all day happy meal is pretty good if you just want a little bite of something and a good drink. They had large ($8.00) or small size Kirin beer & I had a Applenini cocktail (pretty strong) for $8.50. It was pretty good. They also had a lot of other choices on rolls at regular menu price. That's pretty fair and decently price. Overall, I would recommend this establishment..

Wonderful smoked salmon sushi, outstanding Vegas roll ... This place never disappoints, probably why it's been there for decades ... well done !!!

A wide variety of sushi options is what drew us to this sushi restaurant. The sushi prices were very reasonable and while we carefully looked for rolls that did not include "crabmix" we made sure by asking the server to ensure that none of the 5 rolls we ordered had imitation crab and in fact one of the rolls contained imitation crab even though it was not listed on the menu. With the notation by the server we received the roll sans imitation crab and it was very fresh and tasty. All of the fish was very fresh and the rolls were prepared like works of art. Lastly, a number of items we ordered were reduced for happy hour but we were never provided with a happy hour menu so our reduced bill was a pleasant surprise. Looking forward to going back.

I came in and ordered at the bar and it was great to watch the sushi chefs hard at work. I started with the yellow tail sashimi and also got a hot night. It was nice to get the added veggie tempura for the roll. Sushi was amazing and make sure to get a kirin light to enjoy. If you are looking for good sushi come here

You wouldn't expect this place to be so big in the inside. We were recommended by this place from a friend because she knew our love for sushi. Our family owned restaurant was bought out by a sushi franchise restaurant. Anyways. Lol. Yen was very good. Although busy. They were fast and prompt. My 6 yr old son over the salmon and I got the rock and roll. The fish was fresh. Very good. We'll go back! You can tell they're used to having a lot of traffic. They're fast. Glad we tried them. Go check them out!

The recent 1 star reviews left me very worried as this place is a long established neighborhood favorite for myself and many others. It has been several years since my last visit and I was very much missing it. I took a leap of faith and hubby and I had our anniversary dinner here last night. It was so good and I'm relieved it went so well for our special meal. Our order consisted of miso soup and chicken curry rice for hubby and baby octopus and chicken curry udon for myself. Miso soup was standard and the baby octopus was borderline tough with too much breading for my liking. Our curries were excellent and something we would both order on a regular basis. Service was pleasant and our items came out at a good pace. We got in at a really good time at 5pm before the dinner rush. It quickly filled up after we sat down at our table. This is a great place for families and getting together with friends. It will be tough to have a quiet, romantic meal as this place isn't really built for that but I still very much recommend this for a date night. The all day, everyday happy hour menu is an incredible gift and will help keep costs down if you are on a budget. I am really looking forward to my next visit!

Every single sushi place I've ordered Calamari were prepared the same way. Thick, fat rings. Try Calamari in Hawaii! It's much better!

Late night sushi crave. Usual spot was closing so decided to hit this spot up. Service fast and attentive. Ambiance little to none as everyone was closing up. Sushi was ok, spicy pork not so much. I don't have much to say except maybe I should come earlier however to me service and food shouldn't matter the time.

I'm 2 weeks past my gastric sleeve and I'm sorry trying to take in small portions of food and I figured I don't think there's anything much smaller than sushi. The restaurant was really nice as far as the ambience and the staff. They have a really nice open sushi bar as soon as you come in. I ordered the shrimp shamai for appetizer and it was so very good and soft and chewable and made my stomach happy. The chicken teriyaki was really tasty but it was still a little rough on the stomach so I didn't need a whole lot of it but it was really good and I didn't get to eat any of the rolls unfortunately that came with it. Losing 80% of your stomach definitely Alters your eating habits and these reviews are going to be bits and pieces of what I order at these different establishments going forward. However, this is a really great place and it was packed and people were very happy and it was very good eats.

Funny enough, this actually wasn't even the exact restaurant my partner had been thinking of when he brought it up, but honestly I'm so glad we ended up here anyway because the food was REALLY good. We ordered the flaming ohmygod sushi roll, and man... it was amazing. Not only was the presentation fun, but the sushi itself actually tasted incredible too, which sometimes isn't the case with more "gimmicky" menu items. It was so good that I literally ordered another roll to-go and took it on the plane back home with me because I already knew I'd be craving it later. That alone should say enough about how much I liked it. I also tried the matcha martini, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. It had the perfect balance of matcha flavor and alcohol where neither one overpowered the other. Sometimes matcha drinks either taste way too earthy or completely lose the matcha flavor under the alcohol, but this one was super smooth, flavorful, and really well done. The restaurant itself also has a really nice atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor area definitely has a more upscale vibe than your usual sushi spot and that makes the experience feel a little more elevated and perfect for a date night. On top of all that, the servers were super friendly and provided genuinely great service throughout the meal. Everyone was attentive, welcoming, and made the experience feel really comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, this place completely exceeded my expectations. They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. We were greeted warmly and chose a booth towards the right. I had noticed their lunch specials offered M-F 11-2pm so we both ordered from that menu. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

On a Sunday evening, after checking out the Desert Botanical Garden, I was looking for some food in…read morethe area. I came across Zu Izakaya and it's great reviews as one of the options. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!
