Japanese restaurant run by a lovely Korean lady. The lunch sets have a great selection and look appealing. I went for the ramen, which in hindsight was probably my worst choice -- the noodles tasted like instant noodles rather than fresh ones. The pork that came with it wasn't very tender, and the frozen pork flavor was really strong.

This is the best sushi place in north Phoenix an it's not close. John the server is so attentive and makes great recommendations every time. It has such a good vibe every time we come and packed basically all times of the night. We haven't tried a bad roll here but our go-to rolls are: Pretty in Pink, Matthew's Roll and Vegas Roll.

I love a good sushi spot! As I was in route to Sedona from Phoenix I stopped by this shopping center to grab a jacket and saw this place. It's a small space with minimal seating they offered dine in and takeout options. I obviously got take out. I ordered some rolls spicy tuna/salmon plus spicy garlic edamame. They made them fresh and they give large portion sizes! Really high quality sushi tucked away in a shopping center. I highly reccomend!

Service is always great. John is an absolute gem. I love coming here great for a date night or even a family night out. Food is fresh and absolutely delicious variety of things on the menu. My favorite thing so far is tears of ninja and the Las Vegas roll!

Stopped in for a quick lunch while shopping. Ehh.... it's just ok. The sushi rice was a little dry, which was really a downward. Staff was friendly and the environment was pleasant. Looking at the other tables, I would try something other than sushi if I stopped by again.

I will frequently stop at Bento Box on my way back to Flagstaff. This unassuming place in a Happy Valley strip mall consistently provides well-prepared sushi and sashimi, incredibly fast service, a clean environment, and affordable meals. I don't mess with all the rolls--I'm a straight sashimi, nigiri, or ramen person--so I can't comment on those, but they look good at other tables. I am usually there at lunchtime and often early in the week, so I miss out on some fish options. I'm told the shipment comes on Thursdays, so weekend diners have a full pick of the menu! This is one of the more reliable restaurants on my list.

Found a GEM!!! Met up with my friend as she just moved into the neighborhood. When we walked in it's pretty small, only 8-10 tables and 5 seats at the bar. So plan accordingly!!!! We luckily were able to call and make a reservation. The decor is dark, modern, and had anime figures (which was pretty epic!). They had neon dry erase boards that had the specials. And the music was not too loud where we couldn't hear each other. We started our meal off with miso soup! It was so hot when it came to us, which is the best! It was on the verge of being too salty but I have a high salt tolerance. For an appetizer we got the tears of ninja which is a jalapeño popper that has crab meat in the middle and is tempura fried. The tempura was some of the best I have ever had!!! The jalapeños weren't super spicy... if you are lucky! For our entrees we all got the bento box, please see the photos! The meat was cooked perfectly, the rice was good, and the California rolls were okay. But my favorite part of the box was the house salad and the tempura! I am a sucker for the carrot ginger salad dressing and theirs is amazing!!!! Finally their tempura was an assortment of veggies and they were golden brown and crispy! They remained crispy throughout our meal. I can't wait to come back and try out their rolls and other bento boxes!

Tiny space, minorly busy but service wasn't bad. Came here mainly for the tonkotsu ramen. Got a Mexican roll & gyoza. Gyoza was standard tasting, nothing over the top. Mexican roll was mad spicy, but good flavor. Ramen was tad disappointing -Broth wasn't too bad actually, a little salty, but still good flavor profile -Noodles were sub standard -Egg had nothing special about it -Meat was lacking flavor They probably excel in their rolls but not ramen

I came here with my son to enjoy a sushi night to catch up on life and enjoy great food. This is a 3 star review and this is why: The good: food here is fantastic, you won't go wrong with ordering sushi. This is top notch fresh sushi. The interior is gorgeous, has a very romantic and happy vibe going on here. This is a place you can propose marriage at the table and it would feel right. Host was very friendly and was accommodating to take a picture of me and my son in the beautiful lobby. The bad: the waitress had some off and weird energy going on. She was quite attractive and neat in appearance but . . . She came checking on our table every 30 seconds. No joke! I asked my son in humor "I think she likes you". Not sure why she would come to our table way too frequently. This is probably how George Clooney feels when he goes out. This was very strange that it was flattering at first but soon became extremely annoying. Strange, right ?!?! 2 Filipino males just enjoying sushi night and the waitress really made it weird. So please come here and eat but hopefully you don't get that kind of paparazzi in your face kind of service by the waitress. Waitress, if you are reading this: I'm married so that's a no go for me. My son is single but it would've been way less weird if you just asked him for his phone number. This place was packed during our dinner time so there's no logical reason for the waitress to check on us every 30 seconds. Thanks for making me feel like a celebrity that night but we just wanted to eat and enjoy. Next time please just check on us maybe every 5 minutes only. We like this place and we will be back. Also yes we tipped anyways.

We also started with the Japanese Lettuce Wraps, these are also delicious! Sooo good and refreshing!! My man also got the Calamari Strips and he loved it!!! Their side salad they bring to the table before the meal is sooo good, I love the dressing. I get two salads instead of soup and salad because I love the salad that much haha!! My man got steak and shrimp for his meal and my kiddo got steak and rice for his like his momma! We love coming to Ah-so it's always delicious. My man also got Sake bombers with Kirin and he always loves these lol!

So we decided on Ah-So and so blown away. First we were greeted and got to pick where ever we wanted to sit which was great, but we didn't expect the stream with Fish!! It was so cool to see that! We loved it. We always love seeing an attraction like this so it already bumped it up. Secondly I havent been into any Miso soups lately no matter where I have gone, it just hasn't done it for me. This changed today. I enjoyed and loved the taste of the tofu behind my combo meal, Dad also got one. I got the Chicken Katsu and Dad got the Teriyaki Chicken combo. We hadn't expected the miso soup to be added to it so that was a plus. The food was amazing! Dad loved the grilled taste and how the vegetables were grilled with the chicken and you could taste it. I loved the tempura and the crunch of the Katsu. All in all amazing. Something we really loved was the fact that it feels comfortable here. The set up of the restaurant made us so relaxed and it didn't feel too modern or pretentious it just was perfect like going to the local Japanese place in Japan. Highly highly recommend. The lunch combos were also all 18 bucks even on weekends! We will be back to try the teppanyaki and the teriyaki salmon when we are able.

After perusing the menu for sometime, we decided on the rainbow roll, which is a California base with an assortment of fish. We got tuna, salmon, and a white fish, which I'm guessing was Hamachi. The California base means that they included surimi and avocado in the mixture. Another dish ordered was the Diablo Tower roll. This roll consisted of a rice base, crab stick, avocado, tuna, Masago, eel sauce and spicy mayo. You could substitute another fish for the crab stick which we did. We ordered salmon instead. Lastly, we got an 8 piece salmon roll. Everything was really fresh and superb. If I were to choose a favorite, I would take a Diablo tower again. It was the most beautiful presentation I have seen and also delicious. Our eyes were bigger than our stomach. We could not finish the other portions of the meal. Water and food service was great as were the staff. They have tables and booths along with the sushi counter for seating. There is a large bar as well. Our only small complaint was the hostess seated us next to a large group when the restaurant was empty. It wasn't the end of the world, but we would've preferred to have a booth by ourselves. Shared parking outside.

(It pains me to give this rating)…read more This review genuinely bums me out to write because Kawaii Sushi normally has great food. The cooks generally do a solid job. Unfortunately, whatever is happening on the takeout and bagging side of the house is completely unacceptable. Whatever you do, do not place an online order for takeout. For the third time in a row, our takeout order arrived with no rice. Every entrée comes with white rice, and we even paid extra for an additional side of rice. Rice is essential to this cuisine -- it's not optional -- and when I'm paying $107 for a relatively small meal, I expect to receive what I paid for. When my wife picked up the order, she was rushed out the door and didn't have an opportunity to check the bag. I wasn't feeling well, so I had to call the restaurant, wait on hold, explain that our rice was missing, and then be told that I'd need to drive back to pick it up, turning the entire meal cold. To make matters worse, the initial offer was a $2 credit for the missing rice. Only after asking to speak with a manager did they eventually offer a $25 credit toward a future visit, which frankly required far more effort than it should have. On top of that, while the food is usually very good, tonight my entire family independently noted that the chicken had a strange plasticky, almost metallic taste, which was very odd and concerning. That's not something we've experienced here before, but it definitely added to the disappointment. Again -- the food is typically good. But the repeated takeout mistakes, lack of quality control, and poor handling of a reasonable complaint make this a hard place to recommend right now. This has happened three times, and at this point they really need to get their act together.

I will, however, write this review based upon the only reason why I go to Safeway and that is due to their sushi. In other words, I cannot comment on the length of their lines, their lack of cashiers or store cleanliness. I'm not stating those things are not of any importance, but for the sake of my review - that's simply not part of what I intend to base my liking on. I go to Safeway once a week for their sushi. The best in Arizona? ...not by a long shot, but if we're talking about grocery store sushi - then I'm willing to stake my reputation on the fact that Safeway can outdo Fry's sushi any day or time of the week. Anywhere. Period. I've never gotten bad sushi from Safeway, but I have, however, gotten bad sushi from Fry's. How bad? ...praying to the porcelain Gods all night long bad. Safeway sushi is fresh. It tastes fresh. It smells fresh. Their itamae (sushi chefs) are excellent at what they do and their ingredients are the freshest around. Again, I'm not going to sit here and tell you that the sushi you can buy from Safeway on Happy Valley in their little plastic container is better than what you're going to get from a 4-star restaurant in Scottsdale. God knows I've had better... BUT for grocery store sushi, it's pretty darn good. :) Check my pics! Their sake is excellent. Their maguro is phenomenal. Their poke is good and their ebi is sweet. Their prices are more than fair. Just how I like it. If you've not yet had the opportunity to try their sushi at Safeway on Happy Valley or perhaps you've walked past it while heading over to the bread aisle, do me a favor and check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Now known as "AFC Sushi at Safeway"…read more Setting the bar for grocery store sushi... Ah, the despair of grocery store sushi. I don't know why I inherently frown upon it - probably because most rolls look a little sad and the price tag is generally equivalent or greater than what you'd expect to pay in a cute little sushi restaurant - and cute little sushi restaurant happy hour will most definitely beat grocery store sushi in both price and quality. But sometimes, you just need to grab and go. Ya know? Well, took a chance here and we weren't disappointed. The two workers behind the counter were very friendly, the fish all looked fresh and they were slicing away as I stood there on a Wednesday around 4:30 pm. I requested extra ginger and the lady gladly took one of my containers and filled it up. She was very proud of her sushi/sashimi offerings, so that was very pleasant. The seaweed salad was the only item that looked absolutely pathetic not to mention tiny, and not worth the near five bucks they wanted. Will visit here again in a pinch. Note: not truly a sushi bar/no sushi bar seating but there are tables in the store
