We have been ordering from Sushi on Tatum for years. Our family still calls it "Sushi Station" which was the original name when it opened. They are friendly, sushi is good, it's fast, it's fresh, price is right! They always give plenty of chop sticks, soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger with take out orders. They also have chop stick cheaters for the kids if you ask. The kids also like to dine in because they like the revolving sushi bar. They time how long it takes something to go all the way around which keeps them busy. They also love stacking the plates and color coordinating the dishes. They don't have all the rolls we order for take out on the revolving bar so we just order those from our server. My son also loves their kids chicken tempura and gets extra sauce. My only wish when dinning in is for them to bring the plates for soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger sooner bc my kids start grabbing rolls, but don't have everything to start eating. They have some great "Special Rolls." We love the Phoenix, Hawaii, Texas, and New Mexico Roll! I guess we have a thing for cities and states, Ha! They are good with allergies and they also have vegetarian options, plus a menu of things for anyone not wanting sushi!

I'm a HUGE salmon skin lover. Eat it every day. Always order it when I go out to eat at sushi restaurants (or order takeout / delivery). This was the first Tim ever ordering from Sushi on Tatum and I'm always a little skeptical because sushi restaurants have like 3 ways of preparing salmon skin and more often than not, they prepare it poorly. Welp, unfortunately, Sushi on Tatum's salmon skin was prepared "poorly"-- at least it was prepared one of the ways I am NOT a fan of. Tiny strips, scales on, smoked... And crisped up. The only decent thing about the salmon skin was that it did have a little bit of a crunch to it. Such a bummer. Also, the portions were TINY - but since the skin wasn't even all that good, did I really want more of it? The sashimi I ordered on the other hand was GREAT. Fresh. Flavorful. Really good! But unfortunately -- the salmon skin FAIL and the fact that my husband hated the sushi I ordered him too, we definitely won't be getting Sushi on Tatum again.

The best sushi in town at the best value. While I always do carryout, the conveyor sushi belt inside always looks fun. The sushi is always so fresh and delicious, I truly can never have enough. Sushi on Tatum is always beyond accommodating to preferences and allergies when it comes to sushi and I am always very appreciative of that.

Pretty yummy! The service here was excellent, and water refills were brought often. The music is tranquil, but you can still hear it, making it easy to listen to the person beside you--definitely one of the better revolving sushi places in the area.

Great stop midday for a delicious lunch. Fresh sushi and salad options. Great service. Visibility from the road is tough and a lot of trees in the parking lot make it hard to spot but worth the search!

My first time trying revolving sushi and it was fun! The prices were super reasonable and I was so full- loved the sushi and enjoyed the starve try mochi and Oreo cheesecake they had a variety of selections which was nice! Jake was very kind. I'd definitely come back!

Was excited to see macarons here, so small and cute. Taste was 3/5

I haven't been here in years but I was excited to visit once again. I remember this being a favorite spot back in my high school and college days. This was the first conveyer belt sushi spot I tried so it holds a dear place in my heart. I love the concept of sitting down and immediately choosing what to eat. The colored plates (referring to the prices) is a fun way to do math and see how much you can eat. My most recent visit was purchasing a surprise bag from Too Good to Go (check out my Yelp collection of places I've tried from this app). I arrived a few minutes early but the gals working were nice and went to prepare my food. It was packed nicely in a container with pickled ginger, wasabi, and shoyu (soy) sauce packets. It was a great variety of sushi! Some fried (New Mexico and jalapeño poppers) and a range of rolls, several which had cream cheese - a personal favorite. For the price, this was a great deal and I got to save some food that would've been thrown out. Definitely recommend trying this spot!

Pretty hungry for sushi so stopped by to give this place a try, it was ok. Place is clean and waiter was very nice. We came at a later time so less items available on the roller. Mostly cake, mixed fruits, and fried rolls, not really anything I go for when wanting sushi, but the menu is available to order other items. I feel the quality was ok but it was expensive for what you get, so that knocks off a star for me.

Pic is all the fatty salmon I had to remove from my Big Boy roll cause it was like biting into straight fat.
    Lesley A.

Dang. The salmon quality has slowly declined to the point I had to poke it out of my Big Boy roll yesterday. So much "fat" on this farmed salmon that it gives me stomach issues. Other rolls without salmon are still good. Hope they get the quality of salmon back on track.

Always fresh, always exactly like I ordered! So many options!!! Mostly do take-out from there but have a full restaurant with a revolving conveyor belt with every possible option including desserts!! Always quick service with a friendly staff!!! Their prices are great as well!!

Ask the Community - Sushi On Tatum

What is the dine in experience since covid? Do the belts move or is it more of a sit down and order place?

You can do either or both! The belts are always moving but depending on how busy it might only be moving through half of the restaurant. All of their tables are setup to have the belt running past them though.

    Do they have gift cards?

    Yes they have

Why did they change the name from Sushi Station to Sushi on Tatum?

They told me that their registration of the business name expired and someone else bought it before they renewed. Don't know if it's true but that's what we were told. Same great sushi though!

Also got cold sake and poured it for each other which was awesome :D. And just seeing the conveyor belt of sushi was lots of fun..the conveyor thing was longg and went all around the restaurant! There were quite a few people in the restaurant too showing it's a good sign. Sushi quality wasn't most high-grade though. Although they had dishes of watermelon and various cakes floating around the conveyor belt too =p. And fries on the other menu you could order stuff from (along with ramen and hand rolls), so yeah it was like an American fast food meets sushi place a bit. Also they had a robot that helped deliver the sake!! That was really cool aha. Definitely an experience.

First, I think the nigiri style sushi they offer was good and as fresh as I've had anywhere. I was impressed by the sea urchin in particular. It's the rest of the operation that I found frustrating. There were hardly any "roll" options on the conveyor belt and there very few fried items like gyoza or tempura available for picked on the conveyor. After sitting there 10min, there was nothing I hadn't already seen. They get a "D" for variety. Also, the interface to order anything "non-nigiri" was not easy to deal with; placed above me seated at the bar... the extra step necessary to order items like tempura, every other kind of roll and noodles was to me overly complicated. I came into the restaurant around 445 or 5pm, so perhaps that's why the variety was so uncreative. I like conveyor sushi but I've been to other restaurants that execute it better; that offer more variety in terms of nigiri, rolls and fried items like gyoza on the conveyor belt. The food is good but if you're like me you'll find the entire process here at Kura more tedious than fun.

They have a table or two outside but they're not setup for outdoor seating, fyi. The restaurant is nicely decorated and dark, which took some getting used to. I got the L/Cali+Shrimp Tempura Combo: California Roll (Half Size), Shrimp Tempura Roll (Half Size), Gyoga(3PCS), Miso Soup. My companion got the L/Rainbow+Dynamite Combo: Rainbow Roll (Half Size), Dynamite Roll (Half Size), 2PCS Nigiri (Chef Choice), Miso Soup. Our soups were brought out pretty quickly and our food not long after. For the price point ($12) and quantity, my lunch special was definitely worth it. It came with 10 California rolls, 5 shrimp tempura rolls, and 3 gyozas. I was pleased to see their gyozas have chicken in them, usually they have pork so I can't eat them. I love their purple rice - so unique. I don't think I'd tried it before and it was good. All of the items I tried were fresh and flavorful. Service was great and I was surprised it wasn't busier during their lunch hour. Maybe later on or dinner gets more of a crowd. I'm glad we tried out this spot and I'd love to come back!

So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. He said the spicy tuna was good but the spicy salmon wasn't - it was as if the salmon quality that was used was poor.

As someone who's a bit picky, that meant I had to sit and wait quite a while for the specific items I wanted to come around on the belt which was kind of frustrating. That said, I've figured out the hack: come right when they open for lunch after 11am. It's a completely different experience. You can order exactly what you want, and it comes out almost immediately. Way more enjoyable and efficient. Even during my first visit, I still had fun. The little robot that delivers drinks and wasabi is a cute touch and definitely adds to the experience. The concept itself is great, it just depends on timing. Food-wise, it's a bit hit or miss. I do NOT recommend the spicy tuna or regular tuna. The quality hasn't been great in my experience it tends to have stringy fat and sometimes tastes fishy. On the other hand, the spicy yellowtail hand roll is consistently my favorite. It always looks fresh with a nice color and texture. The app is also a little confusing. When you try to pay, it still redirects you to a QR code and opens a webpage instead of using the app directly, which makes you wonder why you even need the app in the first place. One more tip: double-check your to-go orders. They've forgotten utensils, soy sauce, and wasabi for me before. Overall, the staff are really nice, even though interaction is pretty minimal. I did try some of their limited time menu items -- their fish taco and the crispy rice hot dog. The cod in the fish taco was way too soft and disintegrated in my mouth, I would like a firmer fish.. the tartar sauce was great though. The crispy rice hot dog was interesting... the sausage was nice a plump -- juicy but the rice did not make sense. The rice was also a little sweet and did not taste right.. ** please bring back the crispy rice salmon and spicy tuna instead of this. We did not enjoy our last 2-3 visits to Kura. Service was always bad, food did not taste good and it was becoming overpriced for what it is. We would happily come back now and spend what we did again if the quality stays the way it is.
