Finally came in to try for the first time! We went (unknowingly) during a weekend marathon so it was a bit crowded despite having reservations. The staff were so accommodating and helpful to ensure we still had our space despite the unexpected rush. The space is beautiful with all the exposed wood and lanterns! We were seated in some tables that were pretty close together, I could reach out next to me and touch the other patrons' food if I wanted to LOL so I would keep that in mind. The signature rolls were so yummy-- especially the Tataki Maki, the crunch of the shrimp tempura paired with the tuna aburi was an amazing texture experience and I will be ordering it again when I come back. The Fukushu roll was equally enticing with a generous portion of spicy salmon in each bite! There is so much more on the menu that I'll have to try because I Will be back! read more

Absolutely Outstanding!!! Obon is in a superior location, literally across the street from the Phoenix Suns Arena... making it an ideal pre-game or post-game/concert spot. We started with the spare rib bao bun, which I believe was a special, and it set the tone immediately. It was tender, full of flavor, and clearly well braised, finished with a gochujang sauce that gave it a nice kick. It was so good that I changed my entrée and ordered the Braised Short Rib Donburi. The donburi was a different profile, more savory and rich, but just as good. Both dishes were excellent in their own way, and it was a great decision. We added several sushi rolls and everything was great. No misses at all. My son, who is very particular, ordered the Obon Ramen and said it was really, really good. Spicy chicken, pork belly, several proteins. Clearly their signature dish. The service was great, and the manager, Po, stopped by our table and was welcoming, extremely knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere was polished but comfortable, again and the location is ideal, for ambiance, downtown flow and overall vibe. For a Monday night the crowd and energy were impressive. The ramen, sushi, and drinks are always spot on, plus the restaurant itself is so cool and beautiful. I love that they offer some vegetarian and vegan options for people like me. I always enjoy getting an order of veggie pot sticks to share with my boyfriend and the Death Free Ramen. The mushroom base they use for the broth/soup is soo good! My boyfriend has tried a few different things on their menu and is never disappointed. The service is always really great and everyone is super friendly. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised to find a non-alcoholic drink option that actually tasted great--the pineapple drink was incredibly refreshing. We started with edamame, which was fresh and delicious, followed by seaweed salad and pork belly. The pork belly was surprisingly large and incredibly tender. We also tried shishito peppers, miso soup, and spicy tuna crispy rice, all bursting with flavor. My favorite was the tuna tostada. For our main courses, we ordered sashimi and ramen. I was eager to try the Deathfire ramen but ended up compromising with my guest instead. We topped our delightful dinner with sake and cheesecake, and it was the perfect ending! read more

Stopped in for the grand opening and was pleasantly surprised. The service was really friendly and helpful and the food was all really good. First we tried the soju spritz and the watermelon soju. Both drinks were refreshing and not as sweet as I expected them to be, which was good. To start we got the pork gyoza, but veggie was also an option. We also chose fried rather than steamed. They came out quickly and were tasty. The neo-genesis roll was my favorite from what we tried. It had a wonderful variety of textures and a little spice, but definitely not too spicy for anyone. We also tried the cucumber, avocado and veggie rolls, which were all pretty good. The veggie roll had bigger pieces and felt a little more substantial, but they were all worth getting. Place was cute but the menu didn't have descriptions of the rolls. They gave a paper and pencil to mark what rolls you wanted and a laminated menu with some of the signature rolls but none of the handrolls were listed so it was a bit confusing. There's a variety of seating options (sushi bar, high tops, booths, tables, and a bar). They also validate parking if you ask. There was a great variety of offerings on the menu, everything was fresh and delicious. Sushi chef Po is a legend and puts a lot of passion into his work. Everything was outstanding. The handroll was one of the best I ever had. The wagyu, chutoro, and otoro were insane. The Yuzu Yellowtail was refreshing. The chirashi bowl was a mixture of everything. Had to ask for plates, utensils, etc. We chose to sit inside given the outdoor temps, and when asked to close the open door to the heat on the patio I was told, "there are people out there. Sorry." My friend and I did not have a reservation, but we walked in around 5 o'clock on a Wednesday. The place was pretty much empty, but they still said reservations are best.. when we sat down we both ordered drinks and looked over the menu and the waitress came over at least five times within 10 minutes to ask us if we were ready. I feel like she kind of had an attitude and wasn't very friendly. They did not let us know that it was happy hour, but we found out on our check from our drinks that it was. I'm not sure if they have happy hour food specials or not, but that would've been nice to know. We ordered the crispy rice trio which I felt was overcooked because it was very very crunchy and I've had crispy rice before. The best thing we ate was the Ramen Takatsu?? Not sure if that's the right name. We got a roll also , but I can't remember what the name was but it was very fresh. I have never been to any other location, but I do know that they have a few. Oh boy. We ordered a ton of nigiri and miso soup. The soup was hot which we always want and the flavor was good. Most miso soup is made from a mix so it tastes and looks the same almost everywhere. Here it was slightly different and with a ton of seaweed which I liked. But there's a massive problem at this location, the sushi rice. The top sushi chefs all say that the art of sushi is 90% rice because anyone can buy the same fish. This sushi rice had no flavor. There was no vinegar to be found. It just tasted like white rice from a rice cooker. Unacceptable. Service was just okay except for... Olivia! She's a star and was helping us towards the end. read more

I was really excited to try the food at OBON Sushi Bar & Ramen, but the experience was deeply disappointing. I placed an order for a few items at 11:38 AM, and by 12:30 PM, it still hadn't arrived. When I followed up, the staff simply blamed "staffing issues" with zero urgency or accountability. Poor staffing is an internal operational problem, not the customer's. If you cannot fulfill orders on time, you shouldn't keep your Uber Eats app turned on to accept them. I visited this place 2 months ago and was disappointed overall. My family had ordered 3 ramen bowls, as well as steamed buns and California rolls as appetizers. It wasn't very busy at all, but it took 40-50 minutes to get the ramen. The waiters/waitresses seemed to have shared our frustration, so I assume someone in the kitchen was slacking at the time. On top of that, even after the long wait only 2 of the 3 bowls of ramen we ordered actually arrived. We weren't interested in waiting an hour to get the 3rd one, so we just accepted what we got. Our waiter was kind enough to only charge us for the appetizers, which was greatly appreciated! The servers themselves were pleasant and understanding, though unfortunately the food itself was somewhat disappointing considering the price. The steamed buns were quite nice, and the California rolls were as you would expect. The ramen itself was okay at best, and I'd probably order ramen elsewhere. The ambiance, however, is ideal for little social gatherings! If I just so happened to work nearby and wanted a bite to eat with some friends or coworkers, Obon would definitely be in consideration!
