    Camarones divorciado
    Ken R.

Another 5-star experience at this amazing restaurant. My first visit was on a busy, packed Saturday night with a large group of friends. This visit was during a very quiet Tuesday evening with just one dining companion. What was unchanged: the service and the food! I again tried camarones divorciado, which is just fabulous. It was made slightly different than the last time, yet delicious! We also had Tacos al pastor. Each dish was prepared and presented with perfection. The service was great and the portions good.

My husband and I tried this place for the first time and were thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious, warm, and generously portioned for a fair price. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and fast with the service. Highly recommend, and we will definitely be back!

We stopped in for an early dinner on Thursday before a show at Stand Up Live. The place was empty when we arrived, which made sense for a weekday, and the décor was cute. Service was genuinely good our server was attentive and friendly throughout the meal. What I didn't realize until we sat down is that Cielo Rojo is a sister restaurant to Restaurante Playa Hermosa. Their logo was on the chip basket, and the menu is identical. I wish I had known that beforehand because we had just eaten at Playa Hermosa the week before and were hoping for something different. I expected more traditional Mexican dishes, but the menu leans heavily toward mariscos.I love Playa Hermosa, but the food here didn't hit the same. I ordered the tacos Mar y Tierra and barely ate them--the shrimp was hard and chewy, and the overall dish just wasn't enjoyable.Three stars strictly for the good service and cute atmosphere, but the food wasn't what I hoped for.

Wow wow wow! This has been on my "to try" list for a couple of months. The inside is so cool, amazing paintings on the wall, very chill environment. We were seated right away. Chips and salsa was good- loved the green salsa. They brought up ceviche on tostadas - so fresh and delicious. Then I had the beef flautas and my husband had the el chingadazo fries. They were intense and the portion was HUGE. Service was so friendly and fast- this place is awesome!

Absolutely amazing fajitas! The meat was flavorful and cooked perfectly, and both the corn and flour tortillas were fresh and delicious. Everything tasted amazing, and the service was great. I'll definitely be back!

I picked up my sister from the airport and thought this would be a good spot to try. We arrived around 8 PM on a Friday, so I was expecting a long wait--but there wasn't one, which was a nice bonus. We were seated right away, and at first, the service seemed good. Unfortunately, after we placed our order, our server wasn't around much. I ordered the fajitas, and the food itself was solid--the meat was flavorful, the shrimp was good, and the rice and beans were tasty. The restaurant was also clean and well-lit, which I appreciated. One downside for me is the digital-only menu. I think they should also offer paper menus, especially since they seem to market themselves as an upscale Mexican restaurant. Would I go back? Maybe--for lunch, yes. But probably not for dinner.

Food was FANTASTIC! So well seasoned and cooked all to perfection. Excellent service- they were offering free shots and free desserts for couples as it was Valentine's Day. Lupita our waitress was so attentive and kind. They decorated inside and outside with balloon hearts and roses everywhere. It was lovely and we can't wait to go back

This place is....da bomb yo....love it. Everything was fresh and crisp. Service was excellent. They speak to you in both Spanish and English.

The best part of the meal was the fries appetizer. I would come back for that but everything else was just okay . My taquitos were pretty dry inside and flavorless . The green sauce on top of them didn't have. Inch flavor either . They had a musician who came in around 5- 6 pm who sounded good . A homey feel and clean but just okay food in my opinion.

    Molcajete
    Carrie V.

The food was delicious. We started with the guacamole and then had their Molcajete- so good, highly recommend. The margaritas were also really good and we enjoyed the saxophone music for the dinner hour. My only piece of constructive feedback for the owner is to install some dimmer switches on the lights. Ambience is an important part of the dinner experience and some mood lighting would make a big difference- it was a bit too bright for our liking. Other than that, great experience!

Amazing lunch with my mother food was amazing. Best shrimp ever and Jenny is great and very attentive!

Tequila blanco and Michelada with tajin
    Patti B.

This is a modern Mexican restaurant with upscale food and beverages. Modern upscale Mexican atmosphere. The service was a team effort with a small language barrier. Size of dishes were big enough to share. My husband had the Michelada which he enjoyed with the tajin on the rim. We split the delicious and original chicharons, the ceviche, and the lobster and crab enchiladas Enough to share and very tasty.

    Sangria Blanca

Came in on a Friday night with a party of 6. We had reservations and had no problems getting seated right away. There was live music and we really enjoyed it! We ordered the El Madrazo Fries as an appetizer. The dish looks chaotic and is packed with many types of flavors but it all worked together well. We're still talking about how good they tasted! I ordered the Sangria Blanca to drink and Tacos de Pastor as my main dish. Not my favorite sangria but appreciated that it was a large beverage and I was able to share it. The Tacos de Pastor were great. The pineapple is the perfect to tie this dish together. Just an FYI - the orange sauce that comes with the dish is very spicy imo so test it out first. Would recommend!

The bar is clean and the surrounding tables and chairs make for a good hangout spot with friends. Located in the Melrose part…read moreof Phoenix, I checked out Bar 1912 after having dinner at Valentine (hint, hint: the speakeasy is located inside the restaurant). They have a small parking lot, but it's free and I was able to find a spot on a Friday evening. Ambiance (2.5/5): Speakeasies are known for their sophistication and for their hidden entry. Bar 1912 isn't much of a mystery. There are two entry points. Either a door in the back of the restaurant or a hallway inside the restaurant that's relatively easy to find as there isn't a door or anything in between the restaurant and the speakeasy. Our waiter took us there after our meal. Bar 1912 is nice, but just about average in terms of ambiance compared to other speakeasies. Part of the reason is that it's very loud (seats 30 people or so) and all of the seating at the bar are back-less bar stools (which I personally hate due to my back). I would have preferred to sit on the various couches/sofas next to the bar. Service (4.5/5): Friendly, attentive service. Exactly what you hope for when you're grabbing a drink (especially when they take a little longer to make due to their sophistication). You're provided with water without asking which is always a nice touch. I had to grab the bartender's attention once or twice, but outside of that, a job well done. Food (N/A); Since I had dinner at Valentine prior, I skipped food here. They have a small menu consisting mostly of appetizers (many, but not all, which are offered at Valentine). One option which isn't at Valentine, but which piqued my interest is the Sonoran hot dog. Had I been hungry, it would've been a no brainer. They have four or so desserts on the menu, and I had room for dessert, but none of them seemed appetizing. Drinks (4/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I look for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients. You certainly have that here. There's a focus on Native American and Hispanic influences here, which is pretty cool, and fitting since we're in Phoenix and everything. I tried two cocktails, one was a hit and one was a miss. I'm pretty flexible when it comes to cocktails, and I know what I like, so I rarely miss. Unfortunately, it happened here. With that being said, I tried some liqueurs I had never had before which is awesome. And I enjoyed the cocktail menu. This isn't the type of spot you'll find an Espresso Martini...thankfully. With a couple of tweaks, Bar 1912 could be in line with some of my favorite speakeasies in town.

We had a reservation for 3 on a Friday night and I recommend doing that if going on the weekend. It was pretty full when we arrived at 8:45pm. The bar is not a huge place, there's an area up front with couches, bar seats, and high top tables along the bar. Main takeaways for me-- the cocktails are fantastic and complex. Really well balanced. I also appreciate the service was great, even with a busy bar. I love clarified cocktails and there were 3 options, our server was able to help me decide which one to try based on her descriptions and what I like. The menu is detailed which helps as well. My friend is vegan and she ordered the Living Color cocktail but she didn't notice the taro root cream, only after getting the drink and taking a sip, she realized due to how creamy it is. The bartender had no issue with making her a different drink that doesn't include dairy. But just know I'm not vegan, so down the hatch it went! I liked it as my final drink due to the desert feeling it has-- creamy and almost reminded me of an adult milkshake once melted a bit. During our time there, we ordered a couple drinks each, no snacks this time, we had already eaten dinner. Drinks we enjoyed: living color, passion project, quiet luxury, twig & berries, climate control, and a beer & shot. If you like to imbibe at a bar that isn't gimmicky, just great flavor profiles and spirit forward drinks come here. I'll definitely be back.

However as soon as I found it and immediately after entering Pretty Penny I was transformed to the cutest little restaurant. I was greeted immediately and had made a reservation so even though my friend hadn't arrived yet, they sat me down. They instantly offered water and menus (food and cocktail). I noticed that the menu seemed very small and the dishes were shareable -- I don't eat meat so I was hoping my friend wouldn't mind sticking with fish and seafood (which she didn't). As soon as I got to my table there was the cutest sign that said welcome to Sarah Sherman and guest -- it was such an adorable and personal touch, I loved that! As soon as my friend got there we immediately both ordered the cold brew old fashioned -- we thought about the espresso martini but this just sounded too good to pass up -- and we were not disappointed! This drink was so tasty and strong. We immediately ordered the bread (sourdough boule) to soak up some of the alcohol as well as some oysters and the salsa. The oysters were so well spiced and were absolutely delicious. But the bread, the bread, the bread -- the server mentioned that it took almost 9 months to develop the bread recipe and it served. It was the best bread and butter that I think I have ever had! The salsa was good but probably was my least favorite of everything and it was still super yummy. We then moved on to the octopus tostadas. Sometimes octopus is not my fav -- it can be too chewy but this was so amazing and incredibly flavorful. It was starting to be my favorite dish until we ordered the Hamachi -- OMG!! Talk about a mouth orgasm-- both my friend and I were yummming it up -- but seriously this bite was so complex with different flavors coming up with every chew -- it has coriander candied peanuts, fermented pineapple, avocado, pickled fresno, toasted coconut and aji amarillo yogurt -- The server mentioned that this was the chef's least favorite dish which I totally do not understand because this was off the charts in my book. We also tried the earl gray whiskey sour, which was light and delicious, and ended with the shrimp toast and the espresso martini. By the way the toast on the shrimp toast was like a little fried dough triangle -- sooooo gooood! The martini was good but the cold brew old fashioned really stole the spotlight for me. Other details I loved that just elevated the experience: Purse hook (very important to me), the little trays for your utensils, metal coasters, incredibly attentive servers, fantastic music, great ambiance and the cutest was the penny they put on top of your check. So cute -- was not expecting such an enjoyable all around experience!! Will be back 1000%!!!
