I've given this restaurant plenty of chances, and it's always been hit or miss. There are only a couple of the older gentlemen whose service is truly superb. Unfortunately, some of the other staff can be quite rude. For example, when I asked a waitress to remove a dish from the table, she responded, "I don't do that--I have to get someone else to do it," which was very unprofessional. The food is just okay. It's not truly authentic Mexican cuisine--it feels more like Americanized Mexican food. The portions are small, though the prices are about average. My coworker and I wanted Mexican food and it wasn't too far from our hotel. We were greeted warmly and after being seated our server came with chips and salsa. Like the hostess, he was also friendly. The restaurant has a fun, vibrant setting, lots of cool decor. We both ordered the Carne Asada Plate and it was great. Ordered to go at this place for dinner. The parking was very easy, and the restaurant seemed welcoming when we walked in with a cozy and relaxed ambiance. The staff was friendly and quick to assist us when we came to pick up the food. We arrived 10 minutes before the pickup time, but unfortunately, the food seemed to have been sitting out, as it was at room temperature when we got home just a few minutes later. The burritos we had were lacking in flavor, which was a bit of a letdown, and the chips that came with them were stale. The red salsa was a bright spot, though - it was flavorful and had a nice, spicy kick. Overall, while the service was great, the food didn't live up to expectations. It all started when i ordered i green burro to go. Did check, when i got home is a red burrito, i mean very skimpy, all flower tortilla. I like to be compassionate , so I let it go. Next time I order I green burrito an a green tostada, the order was incomplete. Talk to the owner, he said come back we got you! Did just that, and no one knew the situation. I called 3 days later, the manager hung up on me twice. They gave me some reparations, but I am not eating that food, I am afraid they were so upset that tainted my food. I've come in here often for the last 15 years. The roasted chicken on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays is the absolute best! They have epic specials and when it came time for Christmas tamales I was floored with how pricy they were but after I had one I was hooked. The flavor and the size were so impressive. Decided to give this new place a try since we were craving Mexican food. When we walked in, the dining room was filled with mostly gringos - which, honestly, isn't the best sign when it comes to authentic Mexican food in Arizona. Service: Probably the worst I've experienced in a long time. The server didn't greet us, just walked up with a pad of paper and stared blankly. No check-ins during the meal. At the end, he dropped off the check without a single word. We sat awkwardly waiting to pay, only to realize we had to go up front to pay. Food & Drinks: - Margaritas: tasted like straight sweet margarita mix, no balance. - Chips & Salsa: good, one of the highlights. - Crunchy Tacos (friend ordered): they said these were good. - Chimichanga: it seemed like they forgot to deep fry it, then smothered it in green sauce, which made it super soggy. Flavor was decent, but texture was a letdown. Rice was pretty good. Overall: Some food elements were okay, but the service was so poor it overshadowed everything else. I am incredible PICKY, or should I say, "SELECTIVE!" about my guac. Some places "water" it down with too much sour cream, onions and/or tomatoes, that take away from the beauty of the avocados flavor. I plunged my chips into that little portion of green goodness & oh my! Their guacamole is so PURE!!! Meaning it's avocados, some spices and that's IT. Based on their guacamole alone, I give this place five stars. Also, we ended up having a pot luck for friend's birthday, but still: BIG thank you to Stephanous/Stephanie for their hospitality! Service was friendly and very quick for both drinks and food. We even received individual salsa dishes and they offered to replenish chips and salsa without us asking.
