My best friend and I have been wanting to try El Chullo for quite a while. We finally were in the area and able to visit a few weeks ago. We were able to nab a table after a quick wait. Just long enough to give us some time to browse the front of the restaurant which had an area of Peruvian foods and artistry. Our server was super sweet and attentive and answered all of our (many!) questions on the menu. We started off with a chilled chicken and potato appetizer. It was delicious and unlike anything I have ever tried before. For my meal, I had the pollo saltado. It was delicious and again, very unlike anything I have tried before. Peruvian food is amazing and the food we had here was absolutely delicious! Everyone was very friendly, greeting us and saying bye as we left. They brought us out each our own little bowl of roasted choclo to enjoy while waiting for our food. They took our order and got our food out quickly and we were checked on once or twice after that and then left alone to enjoy the meal. The lomo saltado was sooo good and so was the aji de gallina. The passion fruit cheesecake was served with a scoop of coconut ice cream on top and it was one of the best desserts I've ever had in my life. They also have several cocktails with classics as well as some on their own unique inventions. Their chicha morada recipe was great, very sweet and spiced. I also loved the space. This was my second time at El Chullo and my first time bringing friends to try Peruvian food. I'm a big chaufa lover, and theirs is excellent. The portion sizes are huge, which made pricing reasonable. We had the yuca frita as an app and it was crispy, filling, and really well done. We tried the pisco sour as well, and it didn't disappoint. Even though they seemed busy, the service was smooth and quick. I also love the art on the outside. It adds a lot of character to the place. The staff were friendly and had our table decorated for our birthday dinner. The food was great (although the sauce was a bit salty). I had the noodles with mushroom, and while I enjoyed it, the noodles didn't soak up the sauce like the rice saltados. The green sauce was a great spice topper and they brought us extra. I would've preferred the yucca fries to be cut thinner as they were a bit dense and not as crisp as I'd prefer. The Peruvian ice cream had such a unique flavor and the strawberry ice cream was fresh with chunks of strawberries. The BEST Lomo Saltado I've Ever Had! I'm a self-proclaimed connoisseur of Lomo Saltado -- it's my favorite dish, and I go out of my way to try it at every Peruvian restaurant I find. This place absolutely blew me away. At first glance, I thought it might be a little dry since there wasn't much sauce, but one bite in and I was hooked. The meat was perfectly cooked, so tender and full of rich, savory flavor, with just the right amount of juice soaking into the fries and rice. It was pure perfection -- easily the best Lomo Saltado I've ever tasted. The restaurant itself is adorable, cozy, and welcoming, and the staff couldn't be sweeter. You can tell they really care about the food and their guests. I'm honestly tempted to come back tomorrow just to have it again -- or maybe bring my grandchild and explore more of their amazing Peruvian dishes. I door dashed ordered the beef hearts, octopus and a side of yucca fries. I've had beef hearts cooked different ways before which were flavorful and tender. These on the other hand were chewy and flavorless. Very small portion of octopus for the price and again bland in flavor. Yucca fries even with a dipping sauce wasn't anything to write home about. We were introduced to this place by a local Americana-Peruvian friend. It's definitely a good place for Peruvian food -- which is delicious! We ordered Pisco Sou, Ceviche Clasico, Puloo A La Parrilla, Empanadas, Yucas Fritas, Anticuchos, and Delicia De Maracuya (dessert). We shared all dishes as a family style to taste all the tasty dishes -- definitely a good way to start out. We learned that this location, owned by the son, is related to the other Peruvian on 7th Ave (same name by the father). This location is newly opened and offered a more playful menu, not as traditional dishes. We have dined at the 7th Avenue location a few times. This is new location for us. I tell people about Peruvian restaurants all the time. Most people have never tried Peruvian food and it's a shame. Because it's delicious! Peru has a large Asian population so when it comes to their food, it's a nice fusion between Latin and Asian, particularly Chinese. I stopped by El Chullo Peruvian Restaurant on a Sunday for dinner and parked in their complimentary lot without any issues. One thing to note is that they have two locations. One is on 7th St. and the other is on 7th Ave. Pretty confusing. I imagine lots of people have showed up at the wrong location. This is the newer of the two locations. Ambiance (4.5/5): As you approach the restaurant, you'll see an awesome mural on the side of the restaurant. Llamas are included which are one of the symbols of Peru. Once you walk in, you'll see bright colors that make you feel right at home. Lots of Peruvian decor. I was seated at a table in the corner of the restaurant. Lovely ambiance. Service (4/5): Our waiter did a great job taking care of us. He checked in periodically, was friendly, and efficient. Everything you want out of a waiter. They weren't terribly busy but still, a job well done. Drinks (4.5/5): El Chullo has a nice list of craft cocktails. Many of them incorporate pisco, Peru's national liquor. I had El Milagro Sour and a Pisco Old Fashioned. I had never had an Old Fashioned with Pisco so this was a treat. They also have Peruvian beer. In addition to chica morada, a delicious (purple colored) Peruvian juice. Or, Inka Cola, Peru's version of Coke. Food (3.5/5): Lomo saltado is arguably Peru's most famous dish. I was surprised to see that in addition to the classic, they have a lomo that is served with noodles instead of fries and rice. I had to try this twist on lomo saltado as I love noodles. Unfortunately, they underwhelmed. The noodles tasted like the spaghetti I would make myself at home and the sauce that lomo saltado is marinated in didn't work great with the noodles. I wouldn't take this as a testament to the restaurant though as I sampled another dish and it was delicious. I just picked the wrong one. The prices are a little expensive for Peruvian food. Not outlandish but a bit more than your typical restaurant. Bring cash if you want to get a 4% discount on your bill. read more

They were busy but still attentive. Great atmosphere and clean. We loved the look. The food was the real star. You will see several reviews mentioning the lomo saltado and there is a reason why. It was great. The causa was awesome. The ceviche was great and can very in style slightly by region. This one leaned towards the creamy side. The flavor was excellent and spice level was great. We love this place! It's been a few years since we've been here and had to take it to go this time. Loved it then and loved it now. Lomo saltado did not disappoint, especially for the price. Felt like a great size. Incredible flavor, perfectly juicy but not over saucy. Aji verde was delicious! My husband got ceviche (I'll have to add the photo + review later). You can choose your spice level, we chose to put it on the side this time. Alfajores were great size and perfect consistency that I remember from my childhood when my obachan made them. The kids couldn't wait and devoured after I got my mom tax from each lol (reason for the half eaten photo)...though I didn't ask if they made them in house, curious to know! Will be back when we are on that side of town needing some Peruvian flavor in our tummy! Even though we only got take out we had great service. As soon as we walked in she was ready to seat us, was attentive and patient as we browsed the menu for our favorites. She gave us some cancha while we waited. It wasn't very busy, as you can see in the photos just a couple seated, went around 4pm before dinner service. We kicked off 2025 International Supper Club UYE in January at El Chullo Peruvian Restaurant. After checking out the menu I went with the Lomo Saltado for dinner. It was steak strips sauteeded with red onions, tomatoes and cilantro with some delish spices over French fries with a side of white rice. This dish was delish, the falovrs of the steak and sauce was so good! I also got to try the Yucas Fritas with huancaina sauce. These were tasty, and a good way to start the meal. We've been visiting El Chullo on 7th Street for almost ten years and have always, always been happy with their traditional, laid-back, downhome Peruvian establishment, especially their authentic food, culture and hospitality. We recently tried out their new location on 7th Avenue resto which they created as a sibling to the original site. Compared to the senior location, this place is massive. Tables are set apart in an expansive open area. The furniture, although nondescript, is tasteful and accommodating. A bar much larger and seating more comfortable. And the eating area is surrounded by windows overlooking 7th Avenue - not to mention an ample outdoor seating area. Being extremely familiar with Peruvian Cuisine, our selections focused on some traditional mainstays in order to compare the sister restaurants. We began with a super well prepared and flavorful Pisco Sour cocktail. For starters we ordered a well prepared Yuca Frita and Anticuchos, medium rare, (beef heart skewers), my fave dish, it was perfectly seasoned and grilled a much too thickly sliced beef hearts - very good (but keep in mind they should not call it an appetizer as the portion is in reality meal sized). My wife's main consisted of their Lomo Saltado; super delicate large cut strips of Beef tenderloin sautéed in tomatoes, strong red onions and cilantro served up over tender and fluffy white rice & French fries. Although tasty, we found it lacking the traditional appetizing ingredients of Ají Panca (a mild and spicy Peruvian Chili Pepper) and Rocoto (Peruvian Red Pepper). My Chupe de Camaron; a unique shrimp chowder consisting of the perfect integration of fresh Shrimp, Onion, Habanero pepper, a substantial amount of Garlic, Choclo (corn) - sometimes Hominy, Potato, heavy cream, oregano, green peas, crumbled queso fresco, eggs and cayenne and salt, was unfortunately not to my expectations. It was very good but lacked its siblings' taste magnificence I've had so, so many times before at Chulo's! Somehow I hope I'm not getting the impression the tastes and ingredients may be getting Americanized as it would be totally against the nature of the fantastic tastes and fundamentals of Peruvian Cuisine. Oh my goodness, THIS PLACE. It is amazing.. Wonderful, outstanding food. Outstanding environment, and amazing staff. We had a party of 8 and they were ready for us when we showed up. The food was out in a timely fashion and service was impeccable. We were celebrating three August 2025 family birthdays and they did not disappoint. All meals were fresh and hot and my family LOVED everything. Please do yourself a favor and give this place a try. We got anticuchos, yuca frita, pollo saltado, lomo saltado.. the fried fish, a hot dog kids meal and my favorite- the pulpo. It's all amazing and we loved every part of our experience. As much as it pains me to write this, here goes.....I am a frequent visitor of El Chullo and they have hands-down, the best Peruvian food in Arizona. You can never go wrong with anything on the menu. Unfortunately, the last few times I have come to this specific location on 7th avenue the food has just been so so. I recently came a few weeks ago and order the Anticuchos and asked for them medium but came out well done, dry, and lacked seasoning, which is entry so unlike El Chullo. I also came today, 1/19, and ordered the Salchipapas and Tallarine Verdes with a medium steak and the steak was just not done right and so overcooked. The Salchipapas normally come out perfect with juicy hot dogs but today burnt dry as a bone, I'm not sure if the cook today just dropped everything in the oil at once but that's what it tasted like. On the times I have come the owners son is the one cooking and his skills are on point! 10 out of 10. So not too sure if they switched cooks or what. Hopefully these last 2 times were just a fluke or something because we absolutely love coming here. read more

We started with sliced yuca... very nice with a garlic dip, and potatoes with a creamy sauce - very yummy. We tried a Pisco sour -- oh my soo good, and a homemade NA drink with cinnamon and clove. For dinner we had ceviche , the 1/2 chicken, a fish platter, and the three meat dinner. Every item was very good with unique flavors . We will be back! I went here once for a friend's birthday a few months ago and I didn't have to think twice to get my friends to come back again for mine! The Peruvian food is so good here! I have yet to order something I didn't like. The arroz con camaron is delicious. It reminds me a bit of paella. I know it's not, but I enjoy it regardless. It's flavorful and rich! The plantains are sweet and just right. The fried yucca was a great appetizer, and everyone wanted us to share with them. We couldn't decide on which ceviche to order so we did the trio sampler. It was light and refreshing and fun to try different types. The Classico was my favorite out of the three, followed by the carretillero ceviche, and then the Nikkei. My husband wanted more protein so he ordered the anticuchos, marinated beef hearts. It was tender and savory and not gamey at all. We would definitely order this one again as an appetizer. The empanadas were probably the best we've ever eaten. Our whole table was beaming over them and were pondering ordering dozens of them to go. We did not since we were full by the end of the meal, but perhaps next time! As far as cocktails go, I was the only one that enjoyed one today. The Tropical Chilcano is unique with lychee puree, raspberry infused pisco and lime juice. It is dangerously good, but I loved it so much last time that I had to have one again today! The jalea mixta was a bit plain the seasoning for the seafood could have been better, crunchier, a lime on the side would have been good too. The tallarines with the lomo were okay. Ok, this is now going to my go-to Peruvian restaurant in AZ. I've been to two other places in PHX(one is El Chullo in other locations) and two in Tucson and this place was by far the BEST! First of all, the fact they have Pulpo al Olivo already won my heart!! Food overall was excellent! I've eaten at MANY Peruvian restaurants including ones in Peru as well so I think I know how to judge Peruvian food pretty well. I had Pescado a lo macho(special of the day) for entree. Such an authentic space with the best and friendliest staff! Our second visit here and just as wonderful as our first visit. There were three of us this time...two ordered the Ceviche Clasico and I ordered the special for the night, Pollo Al Horno. Their Ceviche is some of the best and one of us is Puerto Rican and she loves it! Hers was medium heat and the other was non-spicy. Such light and delicate white fish in a creamy lime sauce that is oh so yummy! The Pollo was spectacular with a flavorful seasoning on the outside and then cooked so the chicken just fell apart. The meal was a half chicken and I personally am a dark meat person so found the breast to be a bit dry but nothing to frown at! It was served with Russian Salad, which was a surprise! It's a potato salad with carrots, peas, and beets in a creamy mayo dressing. None of us had had something like this before and we all loved it!
