This was our second visit to the 7th St. location after years at the original 7th Ave, spot. Apparently the two are owned by the same family/group, but the buildings and menu vary. The menu differences are minor for us and what we order. This location is much bigger, with more parking, and also louder due to the solid wall construction. Service was OK. The waitress was very soft spoken which is problematical in a loud environment. We asked for the appetizer, which we were sharing, to come out first and then our entrees. Three entrees arrived along with the appetizer. The fourth entree came about 5 minutes later. As the fourth entree was the same as one of the first three, I can only assume that because I asked for the appetizer first, my entree was delivered after the appetizer, while everyone else got their entree at the same time as the appetizer. Some of us shared the appetizer while the entree sat - cooling. Others tried eating both at the same time. The shared appetizer was the Ceviche Mixto and it was terrific. Definitely 5 star worth. Plenty of seafood and the Leche de Tigre was spot on. The entrees were Saltado variations: two Lomo Saltados with rice and fries; A Pollo Saltado with spaghetti; and a vegetable Saltado with spaghetti. The sauce was perfect, the rice fluffy, the fries nicely cooked, and the pasta was al dente as it should be. The only complaints were the proteins, chicken and "steak", were overcooked (after asking for the beef to be medium rare). When we started coming to the original location, I seem to remember the menu listing New York steak as the beef protein. I am pretty sure that is not true today as the beef was tough and not even Sirloin quality. Piscos are always a pre-requisite to a Peruvian meal and we each had a different one so we could compare. Other than the traditional Sour, I don't remember the names of the other ones. But they were all wonderful and it was hard to choose one over the other. A minor complaint is the price at $14. Once we had been served the waitress disappeared. It took a long time to get her to bring to-go boxes. Then another wait for the check. This place is awesome! I booked a reservation for 12 people for a birthday lunch and they treated us so well. They had the table set up nicely when we arrived and our server Marco took such great care of us. The food is delicious! I highly recommend the octopus. Everyone in my party enjoyed their dishes. At the end of the meal they brought each celebrant a free dessert and came out dancing with sparklers and music. It was such a great way to celebrate. Definitely check this place out. We love the original location, and this new location is just as great! Their website markets the 7th st location as serving "traditional recipes" and this new 7th ave location as serving "traditional recipes with a modern twist", so go in expecting a mix of classic dishes and dishes that contain some extra creativity. Tiradito Clasico was so flavorful. Chaufa Especial was a no-brainer for me since their fried rice is always great (and now the fried chijaukai chicken makes it 3x better). The highlight of the evening though was Tallarin a la Huancaina. We were very excited as it combined two of our favorite things, tallarin and lomo saltado, in one dish. I went here for a new dining experience with a friend. I started off with the yucca fritas and a traditional pico sour. Both were delicious and would definitely get again. My friend arrived 30 minutes late)! They ordered the lomo saltado with rice and fries. I ordered the pollo saltado with Peruvian spaghetti. The lomo saltado was a beef dish and very good, the chicken was amazing with the spaghetti. I was unsure about the pasta since I'm use to more Italian style cooking of pasta dishes but I'm glad I ventured out and tried something new. I would get again! Meanwhile I had the El milagroso cocktail and for desert we had the crema volteada and both were amazing. The only sad drink was the margarita amazonica, which just didn't hit the mark. This place has been years in the making. It's super awesome that this location has finally become a reality. There is ample parking in the rear and the restaurant is beautifully decorated inside and out. There is more seating for diners than the original location and they even have a little lounge cutout if you want to hang out and enjoy their delicious cocktails. The food and cocktail menu has a little bit more of a "mavericky" flair than the original location. It is nice to see them allowing the chef/s to show their creativity. We had some of the new ceviches and Piqueo on 7th Ave, and for dessert the Crema Volteada. Everything was as tasty as expected. This location will now create a nice little turmoil in my heart, though. Now I have to decide whether I want the classics at the original location, or if I'm going to test out the exciting derivatives at this location. That's a great problem to have, and I hope it works out for El Chullo in the long run. I look forward to bouncing back and forth. read more

It was slow Thursday night, so I expected services to be fast & food to be on point. The same dude who greeted me at the door offered me some water & corn popcorn, i think. We ate here last night to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She really wanted to try a Peruvian restaurant since we had visited Peru years ago and loved the food. This place is amazing and exceeded our expectations. First, the server (I wish I remembered his name) was very gracious and welcoming. He answered all our questions and explained levels of spice for certain dishes as well as options if we wanted to make modifications. He encouraged us to let him know if anything was not to our liking and assured us he would do his best to ensure our meals met our needs. Secondly, but just as important, each dish was outstanding. The ceviche mixto was not only beautiful in its appearance, but all the fish, seafood and other ingredients were fresh and tasty! The arroz con camaron was colorful and included perfectly done shrimp and delicious rice. The beef empanadas were a nice addition and we'd order them again.....but at least two servings instead of sharing only one serving. The Peruvian ambiance was very tasteful. I loved all the colors and did not feel overwhelmed. Finally, the prices were very reasonable and I was surprised! We have traveled a lot lately and eating out has gotten so expensive. I came in never having been to the older location. For a while I've been eyeing the restaurant space waiting for it to open and finally got around to it and wow. I had one of the pisco specialty drinks, it was pineapple and cinnamon flavored, absolutely delicious and presentation was awesome. I also ordered the arroz con camarón thinking it would be a light dish, however it was very rich and creamy. Also, absolutely delicious. Overall had a great experience but while I did think it was slightly expensive, they do serve a large portion. read more

I've been coming to El Chullo on 7th st for years, since I discovered it in 2020 when I moved to PHX. In my opinion a truly hidden gem. I knew I had to visit their new location and as expected just as good as their OG location but a little more big. I ordered my favorite which is the classic ceviche. The best ceviche in my opinion is Peruvian. Nothing beats the freshness and the pairing of spicy with a lil sweetness from sweet potato. Service is great. Came here because it was recommended. But was sadly disappointed. Sat for 20 min before we got out drink order taken, because I finally waived down the server. Waited ONE hour for our food. Service was horrible. Food was basic. Food has no taste. Just go to marisco boys down the road if you want good ceviche. Drinks were also horrible. We prefer this newer location to the one on 7th St. because there are a lot more tables and space. The restaurant is decorated festively and there was a DJ playing what I assume was Peruvian music when we were there (5pm on a Saturday). There was a small dance floor in front of the DJ booth where some of the customers were dancing. It added a fun ambience to the experience. The music was pretty loud, so if you want to have a conversation with your table mates then perhaps go at a time when there isn't a DJ. We really enjoyed our food and it tasted very fresh. Would be great if they could add an additional vegetarian/vegan dish to their menu, although the one they have is good! Our server was very nice. We will return! read more
