Not the best tostada I had

The food was not what I expected. I ordered the tostada de chicharrón because it looked amazing, but instead of chicharrón, it was topped with carne asada. While the presentation was beautiful, the dish itself was disappointing. I also asked for salsa, but the server never came back with it. On top of that, our group was charged for an extra drink that no one ordered, and it was still left on our bill. The bathroom was not very clean, and the area outside the restaurant felt a bit sketchy, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. Unfortunately, between the incorrect dish, poor service, and billing mistake, I don't see myself returning.

The food is delicious and the drinks are delicious. The place is super cute and the service was top notch. The ladies were super kind and attentive. I'll be going back soon!

I'd like to start with the ambiance. We visited on a "Sabor and Sax" night, it was a very pleasant evening. The service was excellent the staff was attentive, and our waiter Alexa made sure we had everything we needed and checked in often to see how we were doing. If I could rate this place on service and ambiance alone, it would be 5 stars without a doubt. I always like to be honest in my reviews, so here's my take on the food: it was decent. However, I feel the menu and pricing could use some improvement. The birria tacos, for example, were good but nothing special--and I know I can find similar ones elsewhere for a lower price. The ceviche tasted fresh and flavorful, though the portion size felt small. I am not sure they have it as a main dish or appetizer. On the brighter side, the drinks were excellent; I really can't complain there. We also tried a complimentary chocolate cake, and it was moist and delicious. Overall, I would definitely come back for the atmosphere, live music, and drinks. I just hope to see more "finger foods" added to the menu to better match the lively, social vibe of sharing a good time with friends or loved ones.

Last minute choice to dine before the James Taylor concert at the Footprint. Incredibly close to the Center and a great choice for Mexican top shelf food. It was Cinco de May night and totally booked but managed to snag a table at the bar. Alyssa was a super friendly bartender that was quick to serve us and enjoyable to watch. Dinner was very scrumptious and a first for my friend who is more of a meat and potatoes type of guy. He ventured into the menu choosing the tacos. He loved them! I, in the other hand went for the rice and pork highly recommended by Alyssa. Can't go wrong with a rec from the staff! Highly recommend this intimate spot located on Jefferson. BTW, the Marg looked amazing although we chose an excellent white wine. Cheers!

What amazing customer service from even before you walk through the doors! I called ahead to ask about recommendations for parking since it can be quite the headache in this part of town. Jared and Celene were both SO incredibly sweet and joyful! She gave me several suggestions including options for at least partially validated parking at the nearby CVS and Fryes parking lots! So thankful for them! Joined a foodie group to enjoy this establishment this evening and Casa De Julia did not disappoint! I ordered the Caesar salad - so delicious! I also ordered the Tacos Julia with steak. The steak was tasty but the tacos lacked a bit of flavor. I added salt, pepper, and lemon juice which helped. I found the cheese melted on took away from the enjoyable taste and texture of the tortilla. So I'd say FIVE stars for service but food was a bit pricey and not as flavorful as I wanted and parking is very expensive in the area. Parking and purchasing at CVS definitely helped offset the cost as it covered 2 hours but their customer service at CVS wasn't very friendly so that made it a bit awkward. Definitely recommend popping in here at least for apps when in the area.

Decided to have lunch here as my friends mentioned they had their anniversary dinner here and it was superb. Take note that reserving through opentable they need $$ to reserve to make sure you don't dip. I called for my reservation and was seated right away for 4 people at 2:30pm. It was a Saturday and it seemed like they were short staffed but our waiter was super nice. It did just take long for our drinks to come but they were delicious. One of us though did not get a drink as the waiter forgot but did tell us honestly he did forget and would take it off the bill. Then forgot to take it off the bill but when pointed, he did remove it. The overall ambiance was super cool. It was upscale Mexican but still nicely casual. The lunch menu was limited unlike the dinner menu that I saw my friend send me when he went. The food is pricier but it is delicious. I didn't get to take a photo of all the drinks and food but loved my Caesar salad so there's that! It's a nice spot, would love to see what kind of happy hour they'd do. Also their website is not working so that kind of sucks. All in all, the experience was ok so I give it a 4 stars cause the food was good but the service was slow.

3 Mini Quesabirria tacos.

The good...pozole was very nice, although not sure how I feel about chopped lettuce rather than cabbage. Also, no radish? Probably the meatiest pozole I've ever eaten. Quesobirria tacos as appetizers were good but pretty small. The not so good...the NOISE and VOLUME. There was a DJ inside and the volume was ridiculous to us. People yelling across tables to be heard. We requested to sit outside...and it was still waaaay too loud with the speakers out there. There's no way we'd go back to CdJ without an option to sit somewhere away from the GIANT CONCERT WALL OF SOUND, like sitting right in front of the speakers at a show. Hopefully you can tell it wasn't about WHAT they were playing but HOW LOUD. We wouldn't recommend for couples or anyone that doesn't want to feel like they're at the club. Food? Good. Place? Cute. Environment? Uninviting unless you wanna go home with hearing loss.

Came here after finding this place online. Online says happy hour Monday thru Friday from 2-5. When we arrived we were immediately taken to a table because it was completely empty. We asked about happy hour and were instantly told, ooooo we need to change that. Happy hour is only Monday thru Thursday. They not only need to update their website but also their door. As someone visiting from out of town, this was def a waste. And to me, I feel like it should have still be honored because it's being advertised in 2 places. So 1 star but really no stars.

Muy bueno el ambiente, la comida y el servicio! Mi comida favorita son las enchiladas de mole con pollo y la noche de despecho!

Their false advertisement

Made a reservation to take my friend to dinner. Manager demanded that we could only eat dinner in 45 minutes as others had reserved weeks in advance and our reservation was not valid for the evening event.

Birthday brunch! Party of five, Reservations were made same day. We felt like celebrities being the only ones in the restaurant. Aguachiles appetizer was delicious and presentation 100%. Veggie omelette was cooked to perfection. Chilaquiles had the right amount of crunch and flavor. Wagyu Burger 10/10 with no flavor missed. Overall, a very chic birthday brunch. The only take away was the small table plate of chips could have a better presentation of chips and salsa and the amount. Salsa was too yummy for a small plate of chips.

Incredible experience for our friend's birthday party. The service was wonderful, and the food was fantastic. We had a party of about 15 and didn't hear a single negative comment about any food or drinks. They had a mariachi playing and it was a great time they weee fun and made our birthday brunch so much fun. Highly recommend and will be back! In had the chilaquiles and added chicken and it was deciduous. They make a delicious espresso martini and the La mezcalita was delicious. Check them out!

Casa de Julia was such a pleasant surprise! From the moment we walked in, everything from the food to the service was spot on. Every dish we ordered was full of flavor and beautifully presented, and the our waiter was incredibly attentive throughout our visit. The ambience added to the experience--stylish yet cozy--with great music playing at first (though they switched it up later, which slightly changed the vibe, but not enough to take away from the overall feel). The drinks were on point, perfectly balanced and creative. Definitely a 5 out of 5. I'll be coming back and recommending it to friends without hesitation.

The space is cozy and full of character, though the limited basement footprint means it's not the most intimate setting if you're looking for a quiet, private dinner. The food was outstanding from start to finish. The lamb lollipops were perfectly prepared and packed with flavor, the potato and artichoke dish was a delicious and unexpected standout, and both the veal and Wagyu carpaccio were excellent. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The house-made jam cocktails were especially memorable--creative, unique, and absolutely delicious. It's refreshing to find a cocktail program that offers something different from the usual menu. Service was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the evening, adding to the overall experience. He then confirmed we were still within the happy hour window and offered to bring us a menu. They used to have an extensive happy hour menu featuring several drinks and food items and now their "happy hour menu" consists of a cheeseburger for $22. Not sure that that really constitutes as a happy hour menu... I asked him why they changed the menu and he put up his hands as if to say he's not to blame and said he doesn't have anything to do with those decisions. He said that "management decided to make a few substitutions but they're pretty good" and didn't provide any further elaboration. I ordered the appetizer lamb lollipops which had four small pieces for $25. My friend decided to try the "happy hour" cheeseburger and he said it was good but it did appear a bit overpriced for an average burger with a pretty hefty serving of french fries. I really wasn't impressed by the quality of the food, the portion size, the price, or the service. Unfortunately, I'll be taking Rough Rider off my list of regular places i frequent and restaurants I recommend to others.

Main level/Upstairs vibe is well-lit with a true cantina bar feel. High-top tables, seats at the bar & happy hour from 4-7 pm make it ideal for some $7 drinks!!. The collection of Tequilas is GREAT. Many of which do not contain additives. I won't lie, I thought I was a big fan until I realized I didn't recognize a lot of the tequilas they had on hand. Downstairs is a whole different vibe. Custom craft cocktails, dim lighting with artwork, and more make it feel like an upscale NYC spot in your basement. I did 2 of my favorites, Paloma De Guayaba with the custom block name etched and the Baya Nueva. It was busy, but not packed, which made the service stand out more than it should have. I had to ask for water twice, never got a refill, and overall felt largely ignored--minimal eye contact, no real warmth, just an impersonal feel that didn't match the space. It felt like a place that may be a bit of a victim of its own success--popularity has grown, but delivery hasn't fully kept pace. Part of the appeal here is the permanent taco truck outside, which I know from past visits is excellent, and I love the truck's outspoken, unapologetic support for immigrants. That said, the cocktail itself was excellent. I was specifically looking for a coffee-based drink before heading to another event, and the Cambures al Estilo Foster delivered on flavor. It was tiny, though--served in a small stemmed glass, gone in a few sips. It did the job, but some may find the portion underwhelming for the price. No major complaints, but nothing pulling me back either. I'm adding a fourth star on a bit of a hunch--I'd like to think they can dial it back in if I return.

My party and I had a reservation on a Saturday night at 9pm (when it's 13 people, what can you do). What kind of sucked though (and mainly why I'm deducting a star) is that we did wait an additional half hour to be seated after our reservation time. Our theory is that they didn't think the entire party would actually arrive, and they were not ready to accommodate us. To be fair, the restaurant IS on the smaller side, but there was 0 communication during that half hour on what was going on... which isn't really good for us either. We got the original set, and this somewhat confused me as well. The food was really good, and was definitely a restaurant that I'd go to for the experience, but for some reason some of the meats were doubled while others weren't. The double portions were really nice since our party was so large, we needed to split the food between 4 different grills (so each table got 2 grills each, feeding 6-7 people in total or 3-4 people per grill), but then we had to share the portions where we only got one serving. It wasn't bad, but to me, didn't make sense. The food was really good though; I didn't care too much about the soup, but the green sauce was SO good. Mixing a little with the soup was incredible. I thought the beef and pork were really good. I personally left the restaurant full, but many others in my party did not. I think it's a really good amount of food for 2 people, but when you push to 3+, you probably do not want to come hungry. Also--the live music at Pemberton next door is SO LOUD, you're going to be shouting at your table the entire night when you sit outside. I think I would come back if I wanted to show this place to someone who didn't live here, but it isn't on the top of my list for when I'm trying to eat out, but I will definitely consider this for special date night occasions. It is extremely expensive for what it is though. For $70+ you risk the chance of leaving not full which SUCKS.
