Came here with a friend, it took the waiters almost 10 mins to notice us and to sit us down. I ordered the Tacos Baja de Camaron. It was very delicious! My friend ordered the Ribeye. My wife decided to bring me here for my birthday this weekend. I share the same day as Mexican Mother's Day. Start of with the ambiance of walking into the restaurant, its small but quaint with beautiful artwork. The service was amazing, from our server suggestive selling and knowledge of menu was excellent. She also surprised me a birthday shot and then a shot for my wife for Mother's Day. Not sure if the young man who was bussing tables was the manager, he went above and beyond telling us about the restaurant and taking care of any questions we had. Love the details in the plateware, silverware , and glassware all fully thought of. They had a back room for bigger parties. As a Chef, I found the menu to be well thought out with abundance of Latin Flavors. Salt, sweet, textures like creamy, crispy etc.... This place is crazy good. Since they opened it's been on my list to try and today was the day that the stars aligned. As good as everything on the menu looked I kept it basic so I could give and honest review. Chips and salsa are complimentary and that red salsa had a heavy kick and the quac crema was great as well. The elote was really good grilled just enough for a nice char to pair with the other seasonings. Carne Asada tacos were some of the best I have had recently. You're paying a premium at this spot but the meat is premium and it's seasoned really well. They don't hide behind over salting or sugaring the meat just delicious tender cuts. Wasn't a fan of the napal on them but wanted to try their rendition, didn't take away from it just not for me next time. My coworker got the fajitas and it was huge definitely big enough to share 2 maybe 3 ways. All this with scratch tortillas makes this a must for you to try. Food was good, presented lovely and plentiful. It's a cute place with a ginormous front door! Saturday night and there weren't as many folks as you might think there which is maybe a concern. No live music playing but the background music was loud and seemed to increase a few times. Kinda dicey part of town, place seems to stand out. Cielo Rojo would be a good place to take visitors or for a special night out (like we did). Prices are a bit high (I love mole but $37?) but, again, it's plated nicely and was decent size. Salsa was good. Guac in fajitas was tasty and I liked the beans quite a bit. Overall the food is stand out. Service was a bit slow, odd due to the lack of patrons. I was really excited to try this place. Their menu looks great and they have a lot of great options. The food was good (not great). We decided to order a few dishes to try a couple things out. Macha Fundido was delicious! The enchiladas mineras were also good and reminded me of authentic enchiladas I had as a kid in Mexico (Guanajuato to be exact, since this place prides themselves in serving food Gto style). We also tried the mole negro. Now there are many different ways to prepare a mole and everybody has their own twist, this mole was good. Haven't found another place in Phoenix with good mole. Finally we tried the Una Discada plate, this was an enormous amount of food, with a lot of different options in terms of protein. Again this plate was good. My biggest concern or issue with the meal was the freshness. Everything came out about 10 minutes after ordering, I thought they couldn't have made this fresh (mole aside since it is a long process). A lot of the food was warm at best, including all of the proteins on the Discada plate. They have some great cocktails a bit overly prices IMO. read more

Cielo Rojo is my new favorite spot. The way they elevate the dishes but keep the flavors of a traditional dish is drew me to them. Their Tiradito is a must have for sure! But my favorite dish so far is the Mole Negro! We came on a Friday night and their was live music which made the meal that much better. The other plates we ordered were camarones al mojo de ajo and camarones empanizados, both cost $25 each but did not taste good. I'd say if you want AUTHENTIC Mexican food, this is not it. Also, there was a long wait to get our food and a long wait to even get a waitress. Our host was the waitress and she was eating in the back with very long nails, kept touching her hair. If I could give this place no stars I would put molcajete had no flavor and too much flavor the salsa diabla don't taste like anything the fried fish was overly salty and the ribeye we asked for medium well and it was so over cooked we couldn't even cut through it. The waitress was so inattentive she hardly ever came back we would ask for things and she wouldn't come back with them items were missing from our order that we had to ask for horrible experience. To top all of that when we told her about the steak being overcooked the manager came to the table and said it was our fault it was overcooked and that we should have ordered it medium and not medium well. He brought us a replacement steak the was supposedly cooked medium but it was still raw inside so I took it home to cook it before I ate it and the manager didn't even give us a discount for our order being like that will never go back again read more

Read an article on ABC news talking about some new restaurants in the downtown area and this place caught my attention. A family own establishment that brings their regional cuisine from Salvatierra, Mexico?! I had to give it a try! The ambience of the place is very appeasing to the eyes, the beautiful murals, wonderful colors, and nicely decorated bar. I had the option to sit at a table but wanted to sit at the bar since they had full dining available there. Let's talk about the food, cause that's what it's all about! I got several dishes I wanted to try and knew I was gonna bring some home to my wife. The ribeye and bone marrow was on point! Very nicely cooked and for that price, you feel you're getting a nice steakhouse quality steak. I'm a huge fan of oysters, so I sucked down a dozen! Thought about getting another, they tasted very fresh and had a great briny taste, but held off the temptation. The pièce de résistance was that mole negro! Holy smokes! I only wanted to take a few bites but ended up eating half the dish! Simply amazing flavors and tickles the palate, truly amazing beautiful dish! Highly recommend Cielo Rojo. So happy to see what they've done with the old La Santísima. Completely remodeled and decorated so nicely with local muralist's paintings on the walls. The ambiance was perfect for a date night with a live singer/guitar duo. We started with chips and salsa (salsa selection rotates weekly but the one we had was delicious). My partner ordered Las Pinches Carnitas Light and it was perfectly seasoned and tender. I ordered the Larga de Salvatierra Rajas con Crema (vegetarian) and I can't stop thinking about it! The meals came with sides of rice, whole pinto beans, and house-pickled jalapeños and carrots that I could eat ALL day. The service was great. Sarah was our server and she was so friendly. Lilly, our server was absolutely fabulous - so friendly with great recommendations we started with a the El Picate cocktail which was the perfect combination of sweet and slightly spicy. So good! We were a party of five so got to try lots of of the items. I had the Raja Con Crema and ...OMG! It was fabulous and I am still thinking about it. Can't wait to go ack for another order. Underwhelming. The fact that the tortillas chips are red and green should have been the first sign. Nothing screams gringo like colored tortillas chips. Simple foods like chilaquiles tasted straight out of a Las Palmas can. The tortillas were rubbery. Both the albondigas and menudo lacked flavor. We had guacamole and queso fundido for appetizers which were both mid. Best part of the meal was the cafe de olla, which was perfecty cinnamonny and sugary. We were there for Mother's Day and expected it to be busy, but service was slow which could have been avoided with some planning. Both the mariachi entertainment and the ambience were good. I never felt so uncomfortable walking into a restaurant. There were 6 servers working. Empty restaurant. Literally, I was the ONLY customer. I had 2 friends joining me. They felt equally awkward arriving. There was a very serious dissatisfied look in all their eyes. The bartender was friendly. Unfortunately, he was not well versed in English. Which is completely fine. I gave the 2 stars because I felt he actually tried, and cared. We felt uncomfortable that he had to ask the other 5 girls standing around for help every 2 minutes. They looked annoyed, and completely aggravated there were customers. Our 1.5 hour of the most miserable meal Over consisted of 5 guests total. Us being 3 of them. Food came out too fast. Like buffet express style. Food was mediocre at best. I'm not sure if the service turned us off. Needless to say, I'll never be back. I live walking distance and usually go to another restaurant up the street, Casa Corazon, Should of stuck with my gut and did that. They were constantly speaking in Spanish while looking at us. ONLY 3 people at the bar. Talk about uncomfortable. Then addressed us like we were a complete inconvenience and then proceeded to talk about us. Spoiler alert: 2 of us 3 speak Spanish. Jokes on them. We tried this bomb spot for the first time tonight and were blown away by the food, the service, and the ambiance. First, we arrived thirty minutes early (we're from out of town, and we misjudged the distance), but they quickly accommodated us, despite our untimely arrival. Second, the gratis chips and salsa arrived promptly and were next level light, salty and flavorful. David, our excellent server, actually made great suggestions when we asked for recommendations. He didn't even wince when we ordered "mocktails" instead of more expensive drinks. We both enjoyed the fajitas, especially the delicious homemade corn tortillas and the creamy beans and seasoned rice sides. I understand they are new to the menu.
