Had a great pre-concert dinner at this restaurant with friends! The service is great and the food was awesome. Everything was really tasty and their cocktails were balanced and good too. They have a wide selection of different cocktails and other drinks. The food is very good with a variety of authentic Mexican dishes. I would definitely come back to try their other stuff. We liked the Herb Guacamole and Macha Fundido. The salsa macha packs a punch! I also had the Sopes de Chorizo con Papa and they were delicious. The sopes were homemade and the dish tastes very good with the beans, crema and queso fresco. The chips and salsa were also good and they are free and available to share for the table. Portions are large for the prices which was great! My friends shared the Discada dish and there was plenty of food. We also had someone try the flautas and they really liked those as well. I would recommend this place for a good Mexican dinner. read more

The front room of this restaurant has such a fun vibe. Service was great and they even gave us a complimentary appetizer. The macha fundido was delicious and depending on where you dipped depended on how spicy it was. The steak fajitas were so so good. Fresh homemade tortillas with all the accompaniments. This might be one of my new favorite Mexican food restaurants. read more

I really wanted to love this restaurant. We love Playa Hermosa and since this restaurant is of the same family tree our expectations were high. Ultimately there is nothing we tried that was screaming delicious. The dishes are a decent attempt at something great. But it falls way short of spectacular. The salsa Macha is hot and tasty but that's about it. The ribeye was a tough cut. I think Texas Roadhouse makes a better steak. Anyway, The servers are great. Midweek there wasn't wait time. I don't think you need reservation. People celebrate birthdays here and there is a loud celebration each time. It's kind of annoying night club spectacle with strobe lights; if you're into that sort of thing. Unfortunately we will not be back. read more

Tacos De Pastor are filled with huge pieces of Al pastor that are cooked to perfection with some char and the classic taste of a good Al pastor. The orange hot sauce on the side is spicy and adds the perfect amount of acidity to the sweet meat. The rice is fluffy , and the side of beans topped with cotija cheese tasted great. The chips and salsa were ok. This was the only opportunity for improvement. The red salsa had a strange after taste, the green salsa tasted good with a hint of lime but it was not spicey enough for me. The staff was very kind and attentive. Two thumbs up , I will be coming back during their lunch hour specials to try more items on the menu. read more

Service is great but food is horrible. Only thing food was red sauce with chips and horchata.

Amazing!!! Great ambiance! Fabulous food. Service is very very slow! We got our chips n salsa but did not get our water for at least 30-40 mins. We went on a Saturday so I understand but it would have been nice if they had a few more people working. Looking forward to going back n getting better service. read more

My first time here. My sister and I went for lunch. We had a friendly greeting at the door. We sat down and Melissa asked what we would like to drink, then brought menus, chips (beautiful multi colored) and hot sauce. We had the Carne Apache appetizer and split the flautas and chicken enchiladas. The food was all delicious. The restaurant was tastefully decorated and very clean. I was impressed and will definitely return, for the great food and service. Thanks again Melissa read more

We REALLY enjoyed our dinner here. Our waitress was fantastic! I ordered the fried shrimp, and it was delicious. The beer was ice cold, my Oaxacan old fashioned was perfect. We will absolutely be back. I have gone to playa Hermosa for a long time, it's nice to see them growing! I think they are some of the best Phoenix has! Now this fits in read more

I was really excited to try this place. Their menu looks great and they have a lot of great options. The food was good (not great). We decided to order a few dishes to try a couple things out. Macha Fundido was delicious! The enchiladas mineras were also good and reminded me of authentic enchiladas I had as a kid in Mexico (Guanajuato to be exact, since this place prides themselves in serving food Gto style). We also tried the mole negro. Now there are many different ways to prepare a mole and everybody has their own twist, this mole was good. Haven't found another place in Phoenix with good mole. Finally we tried the Una Discada plate, this was an enormous amount of food, with a lot of different options in terms of protein. Again this plate was good. My biggest concern or issue with the meal was the freshness. Everything came out about 10 minutes after ordering, I thought they couldn't have made this fresh (mole aside since it is a long process). A lot of the food was warm at best, including all of the proteins on the Discada plate. They have some great cocktails a bit overly prices IMO. read more

The food was really good. Good portion sizes and worth the cost. They brought us sample tacos that we weren't 100% sure what they were but tasted good. I had the fries, husband had breakfast burrito and daughter had kids quesadilla, little to much seasoning on kids fries. They had a great singer! She's there on Sundays from 12-2pm, worth checking out. read more

Came here with a friend, it took the waiters almost 10 mins to notice us and to sit us down. I ordered the Tacos Baja de Camaron. It was very delicious! My friend ordered the Ribeye. It was tasty as well but a bit too tangy. The pricing is more on the expensive side. But definitely recommend at least trying it. read more

My wife decided to bring me here for my birthday this weekend. I share the same day as Mexican Mother's Day. Start of with the ambiance of walking into the restaurant, its small but quaint with beautiful artwork. The service was amazing, from our server suggestive selling and knowledge of menu was excellent. She also surprised me a birthday shot and then a shot for my wife for Mother's Day. Not sure if the young man who was bussing tables was the manager, he went above and beyond telling us about the restaurant and taking care of any questions we had. Love the details in the plateware, silverware , and glassware all fully thought of. They had a back room for bigger parties. As a Chef, I found the menu to be well thought out with abundance of Latin Flavors. Salt, sweet, textures like creamy, crispy etc.... Wife got mango margarita and I had the Cowboy Boot Modelo Cerveza . As a Chef and my wife hospitality executive we value great teams and great service. Loved everything here. Hope you foodies and customers enjoy this review and will be helpful to your decision. PS you can go online look at their full menu and reserve your table. #ChefLife read more

Food was good nothing crazy and the guacamole needs some little flavor but yummy food all the same great service great margaritas

Cielo Rojo is my new favorite spot. The way they elevate the dishes but keep the flavors of a traditional dish is drew me to them. Their Tiradito is a must have for sure! But my favorite dish so far is the Mole Negro! We came on a Friday night and their was live music which made the meal that much better. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their dishes. read more

Read an article on ABC news talking about some new restaurants in the downtown area and this place caught my attention. A family own establishment that brings their regional cuisine from Salvatierra, Mexico?! I had to give it a try! The ambience of the place is very appeasing to the eyes, the beautiful murals, wonderful colors, and nicely decorated bar. I had the option to sit at a table but wanted to sit at the bar since they had full dining available there. Let's talk about the food, cause that's what it's all about! I got several dishes I wanted to try and knew I was gonna bring some home to my wife. The ribeye and bone marrow was on point! Very nicely cooked and for that price, you feel you're getting a nice steakhouse quality steak. I'm a huge fan of oysters, so I sucked down a dozen! Thought about getting another, they tasted very fresh and had a great briny taste, but held off the temptation. The pièce de résistance was that mole negro! Holy smokes! I only wanted to take a few bites but ended up eating half the dish! Simply amazing flavors and tickles the palate, truly amazing beautiful dish! Overall, go ahead and give this place a try and thank me later! read more

Highly recommend Cielo Rojo. So happy to see what they've done with the old La Santísima. Completely remodeled and decorated so nicely with local muralist's paintings on the walls. The ambiance was perfect for a date night with a live singer/guitar duo. We started with chips and salsa (salsa selection rotates weekly but the one we had was delicious). My partner ordered Las Pinches Carnitas Light and it was perfectly seasoned and tender. I ordered the Larga de Salvatierra Rajas con Crema (vegetarian) and I can't stop thinking about it! The meals came with sides of rice, whole pinto beans, and house-pickled jalapeños and carrots that I could eat ALL day. The service was great. Sarah was our server and she was so friendly. The owner, Manuel, came to our table and told us how the menu was inspired by family recipes in Guanajuato. Will definitely be back. read more

I frequent Cielo Rojo 2x monthly roughly. Excellent and authentic regional Mexican food, a nice break from the Sonoran Mexican food scene in Phoenix. I typically get the menudo, which is remarkable, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Friendly and helpful staff. read more

In my personal opinion, the food is super, super expensive, the portions are small, and it's not good at all.

On my first visit, I went to the restaurant for a quick meal before going back home. Everything - food, service, atmosphere - was just excellent! It is a basic place, yet the food and the drinks were wonderful. The flautas sauce was jaw-dropping. The Picante and the Oaxacan Old Fashion drinks were marvelous as well. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

The Food and Service was on point. The live Music was wonderful. Was not expecting it. Good treat for an out of towner.

This place is crazy good. Since they opened it's been on my list to try and today was the day that the stars aligned. As good as everything on the menu looked I kept it basic so I could give and honest review. Chips and salsa are complimentary and that red salsa had a heavy kick and the quac crema was great as well. The elote was really good grilled just enough for a nice char to pair with the other seasonings. Carne Asada tacos were some of the best I have had recently. You're paying a premium at this spot but the meat is premium and it's seasoned really well. They don't hide behind over salting or sugaring the meat just delicious tender cuts. Wasn't a fan of the napal on them but wanted to try their rendition, didn't take away from it just not for me next time. My coworker got the fajitas and it was huge definitely big enough to share 2 maybe 3 ways. All this with scratch tortillas makes this a must for you to try. Service was great only thing is for lunch the music was really loud, would definitely make it difficult to have a productive work lunch meeting. Excited to come back read more

Got the Largas: Chile Negra which is something I've never had before. It was so good! We also got Flautas and Enchiladas Mineras. Pretty good too. For drinks: A La Madre drink was a tad on the sweet side but still good. Try La Nacional but with mezcal tho, that was bomb! Service was good for the most part, our waitress didn't come to our table as often after food was served. Although I'm a very patient person and this isn't an issue for me, others might be bothered. Ambiance is great! read more

Food was good, presented lovely and plentiful. It's a cute place with a ginormous front door! Saturday night and there weren't as many folks as you might think there which is maybe a concern. No live music playing but the background music was loud and seemed to increase a few times. Kinda dicey part of town, place seems to stand out. Cielo Rojo would be a good place to take visitors or for a special night out (like we did). Prices are a bit high (I love mole but $37?) but, again, it's plated nicely and was decent size. Salsa was good. Guac in fajitas was tasty and I liked the beans quite a bit. Overall the food is stand out. Service was a bit slow, odd due to the lack of patrons. It's pretty laid back in there and we stayed a while with no difficulty. read more

The food presentation is good, but the taste generously I'd give 2 star rating. The tostada tasted like straight up tomato juice and salt. Not worth $17. The other plates we ordered were camarones al mojo de ajo and camarones empanizados, both cost $25 each but did not taste good. I'd say if you want AUTHENTIC Mexican food, this is not it. Also, there was a long wait to get our food and a long wait to even get a waitress. Our host was the waitress and she was eating in the back with very long nails, kept touching her hair. I would understand if she's on break to eat, but she wasn't, made me question the cleanliness of this place. I wouldn't return. Save your time and money read more

What an amazing meal! We luckily beat the dinner rush on a Saturday and had a great experience all around.
