The family that runs this place is friendly and cool. I do think they have some of the best tortas here in the valley, and I always try to make a stop when near. This time, I was placing an order for some friends who were unexpectedly staying at Phx Children's Hospital, so I thought I'd share my experience with them. The Torta & Taco Plate combos are $15.99 each. It's a bit higher, but that's turned into the new norm with everything. Taco plate includes rice & beans, while the Tortas include Fries. 2 Taco Plates & 2 Tortas Combo @$16 add up quickly, but the food is always consistently good. If you're coming in for tacos, take advantage of the Taco Tues specials, which change up a bit but can include rice & beans or just tacos. Tortas are filling so I kept it simple with Carne Asada and Chicken. The inside is kept clean and the fridge off to the side with all the beers is always calling my name.... I resisted the last 2 trips, but not sure how long I will be able to hold off!!! Until the next time, possibly lunch in coming weeks. read more

This place is all right: three stars only for prompt, courteous service, and delicious food. So, I gather that this is a family owned business (?). However, just one--or maybe two--of these ( family ) workers speak English. This is very discouraging when you're ordering your food and these said people are not there. Not only do the other people NOT speak any English, but equally frustrating is that the menu--which is written in chalk on a baseboard behind and above the counter--is entirely in Spanish. Came on my lunch break, and was pleasantly welcomed in by a lady and a man. They were really friendly, and made sure to let me know what was inside my torta when I ordered incase I wanted to make any changes. (Which I love) they have a nice space where you can sit and have your meals as well. My order didn't take too long, and it was really tasty! I love that they included salsas on the side as well. My only concern would be that the fries had a very strong taste of oil. Other than that my meal was delicious. read more

I ordered a Cubano for my husband and another type of chicken sandwich for my son. They were both enormous and very well received. Each one came with fries that were cooked right and not mushy. They have a great selection of agua frescas. We got Jamaica which was cold and delicious. Service was fast and efficient and so sweet. This lovely elder woman offered to help me to my car with the order! ALSO, they DO take credit cards although I got cash before I went after reading other reviews. The bread for the tortas was soft with a crisp outside, which was perfect! We also loved that the tortas were not too messy or greasy and each torta order came with fries and sauce. The mango aguas frescas were very delicious and we liked how they were not too sweet. Would rate this a 4.5 only because it was a little on the pricier side. I'm really disappointed with my experience at Tortas El Güero. I checked online before heading out, and it said they closed at 6 PM. I drove 30 minutes to get food and tried calling several times along the way no one answered. When I finally arrived, the lady told me they decided to close early. No sign, no update online, no courtesy to answer the phone or let customers know. It's frustrating and honestly disrespectful to waste people's time like that, especially when they go out of their way to support your business. If you're going to close early, at least update your hours or answer the phone. Simple communication goes a long way. read more

Wow, we're we impressed with this spot. Recommend to us by a friend and it is now one of our favorites. They have a big selection of tortas from Hawaiian to Alhambra. The tortas are huge and my gosh are full of flavor. We also ordered the tacos plate and the asada tacos were 10/10. The meat was so tender and flavorful these tacos are some of my tops in PHX. The rice and beans taste just like my grandmas and paired nicely with the salsa. If highly recommend if your wanting authentic Mexican food. read more

Parking is plentiful, so you will have no problem getting in and out in a pinch. Inside has a fast casual setup, with a main counter for ordering and several 2 and 4 tops for dining in. Everything was very clean and well organized during our visit which was perfect for our impromptu lunch. The menu is displayed over the register. One small gripe is that I wish the overhead menu had a breakdown as to what is on each sandwich. I had to pull up the menu online to see what each sandwich entailed, as some include more than what their menu name entails. Service: 5/5. The Staff at Tortas El Guero were great! We were immediately greeted when we walked into the restaurant and they were very helpful in explaining the menu. They also brought our food out to our table when it was ready, not a necessity in a fast casual restaurant environment, but certainly a nice touch! Food: 5/5. The tortas and tacos are fantastic! My group of 4 opted to try the torta Cubana, al pastor tacos, carne asada tacos and the torta Pacifico. Everything came out at the same time piping hot and with lovely presentation. My cubana was generously filled with breaded steak, pork pierna, ham and gooey cheese. Each bite was insanely flavorful, with the bread being the perfect vehicle for the fillings due to its soft interior and crusty outside. Local, casual family-run business that I appreciated hanging out at. Sweet lady who speak Spanish to you and manages the place will take your order. I got the asada torta for myself and the asada taco for my baby. The torta was quite satisfying and very juicy! It's probably the ideal food for when you are hungover. It does have quite a bit of grease on it so if that's not your jam, stay away. The taco was simple, with some meat, onions, and cilantro. The only reason I'm not giving four stars is that the torta is almost $20, which is quite a lot for a hole-in-the-wall Mexican street food meal. It certainly does not have enough meat or avocado to justify that. I am all for supporting local businesses with all of my heart, but not at ludicrous prices. The tortas here are amazing, especially the alambre de pollo, cochinita, and the mind-meltingly good al pastor. Even the fries that come with most dishes are better than average crispy (though they're sometimes hit or miss). You can't wrong with anything here. Even the average at TEG is miles above most other places. The ambiance is laid back, clean, and surprisingly styley for a multi-generational family-run place. The only drawbacks are that they're kind of weird about taking cards for payment (they used to hide the card reader under the counter), and I could without the TVs playing Newsmax and OAN all the time. Lunch here was great! We arrived a little after 11am so it wasn't at all busy. The cashier was very friendly and helped us right away. We ordered their quesadilla special which includes the quesadilla, rice, beans, and a canned soda. We then also ordered one torta de milanesa de pollo. We paid about $26 for the two plates and a canned soda. The salad bar was really clean and fully stocked and the dining area was clean. We sat down and about 10 minutes later the food was brought out to us. The torta was delicious! They have three different torta sizes. (mini, regular, large) The bread tasted homemade and the milanesa de pollo (breaded chicken) was perfectly flavored. The torta also came with seasoned French fries! The quesadilla was really good and the carne asada filling was delicious. The beans and rice were also very good. People started trickling in around noon, so it's definitely a lunch spot! The torta ahogada here is really good and it is hot. If spicy food is tough for you, I'd prob get something else on the menu (which I'm sure will still be great). But if you like spicy food and pork and stuff the ahogada is great and we should ahogada more things. The salsa has a lot of great flavor and the pork is tender.
