So I have been eating at Rositas Place since it opened in 1987. I am writing this review in the hopes that the family reads this and makes some changes back to the way it used to be. I once considered this my favorite Mexican Food, not so much lately. In the last 4 visits I have to say it has really slipped. My once favorites have really dropped off. The green corn tamales used be stuffed with cheese and green chillies, now the filling is the size of your index finger. My favorite Red and Green Plate that I had today was horrible to the point that I picked out the meat which was sparse and skipped to ditched the gravy. The beans have slipped, the rice was good. I ate maybe 1/3 of the plate and I have never not taken home leftovers but today I left it. The once amazing meat and potato taco are now mostly potato filler. My final favorite was the green chili chicken enchiladas which I have not had recently. I get that prices have gone up but raise the price if you have to rather than reduce portions or use fillers. There are so many options these days, dont put yourself out of business. Make it like it used to be. read more

Went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. We ordered the green chile chimichanga and made it meal with rice and beans at an additional price, and the Rosita's special. They were both very flavorful. The chips they bring to the table have a small additional price which we didn't mind because the bowl was big and the chips are fresh. Well! Y'all know I'm a huge foodie. Always searching for the perfect meal. I work hard, play hard, and eat well. I found this place on TikTok. Let me tell you - we will be frequent patrons. I woke up craving some red chile menudo. But, I don't eat canned hominy. It messes with my tummy. I ordered the red chile menudo and noticed the variation in hominy sizes which tells me they make their own. The menudo was yummy! They also serve the menudo with a hoof for an additional charge. Going to try that next time. Everything was delicious. We also ordered the hard-shelled tacos. I ordered the machaca tacos and was pleasantly surprised to see green chile in the machaca. I've been on this green chile kick for a while. Hot green chile. Rosita's salsas sit on your tongue for a while. Reminded me of my uncle Stephen's hot green chile sauce. Upon entering the restaurant we noticed the place was packed with Mexicans. A sure sign the restaurant was definitely good. read more

Chips and Salsa are both top notch, super spicy if that's your thing! Combo plate gave a great sampling of their food overall, and it was delicious. Guacamole was also spectacular! Called to see if they can accommodate my family of 15 on Sunday for lunch and they did!! They have a great colorful room in the back perfect for large groups. Our server Carmen was AMAZING! My son and I went today for lunch. I ordered the beef short rib and I thought combo of rice and beans and iced tea. My son ordered taco,cheese enchilada, rice, beans, tea. Started with chips and salsa, we weren't told they charge handsomely for this culinary treat. When food arrived my sons looked ok. My order consisted of 2 tiny burnt up pieces of mainly fat. I tried to eat my lunch and had to keep spitting it out. Rice , beans and tortilla was nothing to brag about. Now the really bad part. Our 2 putrid dinners 56.00 dollars with tip 70 bucks. I told my son for that kind of money we can go to a good place that isn't in a scary part of town. I will never again return to this overpriced , outdated sewer. read more

An institution since 1964. I've been coming here for 50 years. OK the meal was fantastic. As usual. But, as I was paying a storm hit; the likes of which is rarely seen in this fine town. The way that the staff came together to protect and calm the patrons down it was it was beautiful it was. Lordy, the Staff at Rosita's cared for us like a family should.....They are so nice and the food: I had shrimp fajitas And I couldn't even come close to finishing. it was perfect And my buddy had chicken enchilada dinner and he pronounced it fully legit! Service was amazing our waitress was exceptional. The chicken soup, however, was very bland and not seasoned, and the burrito had so much meat that it kept overflowing. The tortilla tasted great and definitely felt homemade, and the chips were super crispy and fresh. If you're looking for huge portions, this is the place for you, but in terms of seasoning, it wasn't what I expected. The refried beans were delicious, but I found myself seasoning almost everything as I ate so if you prefer to adjust flavors yourself, you'll enjoy it. We have been going to Rositas for 20 years and as of the last year it has really been disappointing. The service has been so bad, and the food is somehow not as good as it used to be. Moved from California to Arizona almost a year ago and let me tell you how difficult it's been to find an authentic Mexican restaurant. This place does not disappoint. Service can always be a hit or miss when it's busy but the food compensates for the wait. Servers are fast, food comes out fast, and the location is clean. I'm so sad the pozole is seasonal but the menudo is just as good. My boyfriend orders the bean and cheese burrito every time we go and loves the food. Came here for lunch during the workweek. Pretty busy but we were seated quickly. Was given an option of a 4-top but they did have a booth available that we chose instead. I had been craving cheese enchiladas so that's what I went for and they were absolutely delicious! I love their rice and beans as well. A very hearty portion. Service was great! We've gone to Rosita's many times and have never had an issue. The food has always been good and the service decent, which is why we continue to come back. Unfortunately, our visit last Tuesday during the dinner rush was extremely disappointing. While the restaurant was busy, it was not overly packed. Our waitress, Gabby, was very unorganized, rushed, and inattentive. The service was poor from the beginning, and we felt overlooked and disrespected. Because of the lack of service, we decided to leave and asked to pay only for our chips and soda. The owner's daughter-in-law was gracious and kind enough to comp our bill, which we truly appreciated. However, just as we were preparing to leave, Gabby came running out stating that our food was ready. By that point, the experience had already left us feeling frustrated, disrespected, and completely turned off. We were no longer hungry and did not feel comfortable staying. This experience was very disappointing, especially since Rosita's Place has always been a place we've enjoyed. We hope management takes this feedback seriously, as this level of service does not reflect the quality we've come to expect. 3 times I have been overcharged or charged for food I did not order .... trying to get it removed from my bill was like pulling teeth .... Sadly, now that the parents have passed away and their kids are running it, customer service has gone down the drain. Super slow, they barely take your order, give you your food, then the bill, never seeing them again. Sad, the place used to be really good, now it's gone to hell. The red menudo was delicious. The green tamale was ok. The sauce on top made it soggy. I would not get that again. Our waitress was not the best. She didn't check on us. Gave us the wrong tortillas. Other than that we will be back. I do think the menudo bowl could be better. It seemed like a pasta bowl was used with a shallow bottom. read more

Maybe that's why people like it. I ordered a Machaca Chimi and it was almost inedible. The meat was sweet and not yummy at all. My guy ordered a red chile burrito, enchilada style. He said it was the definition of mediocre. He didn't even want to take the uneaten half home. The margarita WAS good. I used $46 of my hard-earned money for less than meh food. We visited on Wednesday Feb 4th. Totally disappointed and our family has lived in Phoenix for over 30 years and have eaten at many Mexican restaurants but this one was the worst ever. All three persons were disappointed with three different choices/meals. Some of the food was cold. Beef ribs were overly seasoned and rubbery. Hot shrimp meal was cold. The waitress was dismissive and we felt rushed at a time that was not crowded at all. Embarrassing for my visiting sister from NY who really wanted good Mexican food but determined she has had better at Mexican restaurants in New York, really ??? Ambiance was just okay but in a run-down section of Phoenix. Chipotle commercials on TV are much more appealing than this place. Would never recommend it. Shop around before going here. read more

Update to my update... So whenever I'm in PHX this is my go-to place for Mexican food. I actually make excuses to travel to phoenix in order to eat at this place. It starts when you sit down and they ask you if you want chips? Whaat? Never been to a Mexican restaurant and they ask you that. Welp it's cuz they make the chips fresh for each order. I mean they're straight out of the deep fryer hot hot hot! This is the journey of greatness that this little Mom and Pop place takes you on. Only plate I've ever ordered is the Rosita's special. Why? Because it's so good that I never want to try anything else. I did venture off onto a breakfast burrito once and it was delicious! Service is always excellent and the waitresses are always very busy. Old school Mexican restaurant in the Central Phoenix area. FYI - parking lot is behind the building. Saltillo tiles, bright colors, booths and tables. A bit of a nostalgic flair. The menu covers all the standards - enchiladas, burritos, tacos, etc. The service is fast and friendly. Chips and salsa are provided when you are seated. Comes with two salsas - red (spicy) and green (tangy). Both are good. I opted for the Rosita's combo - enchilada, taco, and tamale plus rice and beans. It was very good. Also, was a lot of food. Went there on today, October 28. My wife and I sat at the bar and were met by two unfriendly staff members , we each ordered a margarita and were given menus. 15 minutes later after not having anyone come back we walked out. We found out about this place from Yelp. We sat outside and had a really hard time getting served. We waited 8 minutes to order drinks and an appetizer.
