We really enjoyed the creativity and the deliciousness of the food offered here at Chilte. We tried the quesadilla with huitlacoche and chapulines (grasshoppers!), the birria tacos and the mole. My favorite would be hands down the mole. It was so good that I could have eaten the whole thing by myself. That sauce is unreal. Cocktails here are superb too my favorite is the hibiscus Paloma the baklava cheesecake and ice cream is a must after your meal. The service was excellent! Ambiance is nice. The restaurant is located within the Egyptian motel so most people wait by the bar inside the motel prior to the reservation. The place is small but it's okay. When we first arrived the host was rude. She turned out to be our server which was odd but her attitude got better. The food is okay and expensive. The drinks are also just ok and expensive. I didn't like the fact the they charge a "staff fee" and still request a minimum of 25% tip. I normally give 20% but the service has to be good and in this case it just ok overall. I felt awkward when the server came over with the bill and placed the machine in my face without giving me a chance to review and then the tip was set up high to 25% so I just signed. Honestly I didn't think she deserved that percent but I felt more uncomfortable that I just gave it. Needless to say, I won't be back here. Wasn't that great. read more

Made it back to Chilte to try their new Summer menu which blew me away. Since coming here when they opened, I have noticed improvements in all of their dishes and the menu as a whole. The dishes have became more complete and the options are curated to tell stories through various dishes. The servers here do a great job at explaining the dishes and helping you choose one you will enjoy. The Chefs Choice was a Pork Tomahawk that may have been the most deliciously dry aged meat that I have ever had. I will be going back for this dish alone!! The three Antojitos were delicious and the perfect appetizer to share with a group! My favorite was the pear & oyster shrooms topped with ground up crispy chicharron. The yucca fries were delicious and the chef tostada listed at MP was good the aqua chile broth outstanding. Would I have ordered it for 32$ not too sure. the birria jaimaca tacos were fantastic and the main chicken with mole rescado was tasty with the salsa from the tacos but was it a 65$ dish absolutely not. From start to finish I can't say enough about this place. The level of quality food and flavors was outstanding. The vampiros were so flavorful and had the perfect balance of seasoning with a touch of citrus and the bit of the red onion was perfect. The off menu fish tacos should absolutely be on menu all the time. It was like bitting into summer. The fresh fish with the light batter, the creamy sauce and the crunchy slaw again just a beautifully balanced dish. We ask tried the Pork Chop molea. The sauce has a depth of flavor like it has been cooking for days. The Pork chop was cooked perfectly and the hominy added a little something extra. The entire staff was so friendly and welcoming. It felt like having dinner with you family. Our waitress was helpful in curating the best order for our dishes to come out. I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu and anything off menu as well as the dessert which I just didn't have any room left for but looked delicious. Margs were good, for $16 for a short glass they should be. When we asked staff what they recommend they said the "burger", Huh? that is the last thing on our minds when we visit a new Mexican restaurant. We want to try complex, interesting flavors. I was there last year sometime. I ordered a mole dish, forget what meat it was (lamb neck?) I had some sort of Chilada to drink. I forget what my comanions had, but they enjoyed their dishes. The food was excellent, no complaints there. I was not happy with the service. It was our first time there and the lady at the desk (hostess, owner?) mostly ignored us, but seemed to lavish attention on what appeared to be some regular customers. It was not very busy and the waitress, was not friendly or chatty at all. I understand everyone has an off night, but I felt as that its such a small place and we were newcomers, the staff could have done a little more to make us feel welcome, so that we might come back. I live in Gilbert and its a long haul to go there. I do plan on going back someday, I just hope next time the service and hospitality are as good as the food. read more

Their parking lot is tight and limited. You may need to park along Grand Ave or within the nearby neighborhoods. Came back to try their drinks & food with friends, and they loved it! We made a reservation well in advance for the Valentine's Evening Special promoted as Larry's Steakhouse. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations and ultimately fell far short of what should have been a memorable end to our Valentine's Day. My girlfriend and I genuinely enjoy dining out and make a point to support local restaurants whenever possible. As a local mural artist and business owner who collaborates with bars and restaurants in the area, I understand how important community support is. That is exactly why this experience was so disappointing. When we arrived, several employees passed by without acknowledging us. The restaurant was not particularly busy, yet we stood waiting for several minutes before being greeted and seated. The first course we received was bread that was hard on the outside and undercooked and doughy on the inside. We politely sent it back without requesting a replacement. The response from our server felt dismissive and lacking any sense of concern. The second dish, prawns, was equally disappointing. They were mushy and had not been properly cleaned, which made them inedible. Again, we sent the dish back and were met with a similar lack of attentiveness or apology. The next course, a chili relleno, was sent out with an extra portion to compensate for the previous issues. This dish was enjoyable and well prepared, and we appreciated the effort to correct earlier mistakes. However, another course followed that was a cheeseburger. While it was well made, it did not align with the expectations set by an event marketed as a steakhouse Valentine's dinner. The menu choices throughout the evening felt inconsistent with the theme and price point. Service overall remained underwhelming. We had to flag someone down for water despite the restaurant not being busy. It also appeared that the hostess was serving tables, which contributed to a sense of disorganization. The ambiance did not reflect a Valentine's event. There were no noticeable decorations, and instead of curated music, we listened to loud football fans just feet from our table. At one point, one individual fell into a heavy planter filled with rocks, scattering debris near our table. While the restaurant cannot control everything happening outside, hosting a special event calls for thoughtful planning to ensure guests have an appropriate setting. Dessert was a very thin slice of cake. It tasted fine but felt underwhelming for a prix fixe Valentine's dinner at this price. In total, the evening cost over $350, including a 25 percent gratuity. Given the quality of food, service, and overall experience, it did not feel justified. The shared portion sizes and execution did not match the premium pricing. I do not take leaving negative reviews lightly. I prefer to support and uplift local businesses. However, after noticing social media comments being removed and concerns seemingly unaddressed, I felt it was important to share our experience honestly. Valentine's Day is meant to feel special. I have been reading about Chilte ever since it has opened. I have read nothing but wonderful things about the restaurant, and I love the fact that it is in the newly renovated Egyptian Motor Hotel. I was so excited to be able to finally get a reservation. The restaurant is very cute and eclectic inside. Has a fun vibe. We were seated at a table that literally came up to our chest area as we sunk down in the chairs that were with the table. We made a joke that we were just gonna scrape the food right off the table into our mouth. While it wasn't uncomfortable, it was a little awkward to eat. Service was excellent. Their blood orange margarita was so delicious that I think I can say it was the best one I have ever had. My friend and I started with the yucca fries and street corn appetizer. Both the yucca fries and accompanying aïoli had absolutely no flavor at all. The street corn came in a very small bowl without any chips so I guess you were supposed to just eat it on a spoon. It, too, was lacking in flavor. My friend and I ordered two entrées to share... The Smashburger and queso Birria tacos. I would have to say the tacos were probably the highlight of the meal food wise. They did have a lot of flavor, but were quite messy to eat (had to use a fork). I don't think I would've wanted to eat a second taco as they were really quite Rich. The Smashburger itself had again absolutely no flavor. It had a secret sauce on it that was also flavorless. I know this sounds like I'm being super negative, but this is just an honest critique about the food. I just expected so much more flavor with all the past reviews. I love the vibe of the restaurant and would love to have one of those blood orange margaritas right now, but I don't think it will draw me back as the food was a letdown for me, especially for the price My friend felt the same way. The cheese was like snow on top and the dip was tangy (Buddha hand aioli). Didn't feel oily at all Mole - the sauce was savory, lots of spicies that blend very well together. The shells were crunchy and the mutton was tender. A great mix of textures and flavors. Quesadilla w/ grasshopper - the green sauce (tomatillo based?) was flavorful. The grasshoppers alone were a bit salty but with everything combined it added a nutty, earthy taste to the dish. The place is both cozy and eccentric. Full disclaimer, I have had Mexican food but not a lot of variety. So this review could be very subjective. # Santa quesadilla: 4/5 a special type of quesadilla but the tortilla is creatively added with a layer of some green leaf. I also added the Huitlacoche. FYI, I googled it. It's considered Mexican truffle (it's some sort of mushroom that grows on the corn and destroys the corn, but the mushroom itself is edible). The look of it is interesting, u can google it after your meal, but don't do it before :). The Quesadilla is good, not excellent but I got to learn something new. # Green chorizo vampiro: 2/5, very thick Chorizo and birria is just ok. The mole taste is strange and interesting since it has chocolate in it. I'm not sure it goes together quite well though # Bedtia smashy burger: 3-4/5. Decent. I'm so sorry but I'd like the IN-n-Out Burger as well and it's cheaper. # Pozole recardo w duroc pork tomahawk: 5/5. This is the best in my opinion. Very tender pork and cooked to perfection. The butter sauce is very flavorful. The chickpea has a bit tanginess which I don't quite like. Anyway, the combination is still good. Overall 3.5/5. I give them 0.5 more stars because the chefs here are very very bold and creative in mixing flavors from many things at the same time. U should give it a try and compliment creativity. Grand Avenue is my favorite thoroughfare in Phoenix because it seems the most creative in the city. Chilte is a very well-appointed anchor to the recently renovated Egyptian Motel. The beans were underwhelming and a little undercooked. But other than that, it was delicious. Bestia smashy burger with a side of Bone Marrow: I forgot to take a picture lol cause it was so good. Next time I wouldn't add the bone marrow since it really didn't have much flavor. Tacos de Birria (beef): The corn tortilla was crunchy, with the right amount of cheese and the meat melted in your mouth. I definitely would get this again. Pozole Recado: This was my absolute Favorite! This plate had flavors that I haven't tasted before. The chicken was cooked to perfection and all of the other components just elevated it. First time here. Our friends recommended this place. Cute corner restaurant at the Egyptian Motor Hotel. Party of 4. 3 had the Maya-Tai which they said was very good. I had the Margarita with pomegranate ponche. Very tasty! Our appetizers: Yuka Frites and Santa Quesadilla (the best corn tortillas which are probably made in-house) Black Pink which my friend said was very good. Quesadilla Birria tacos: again with the delicious tortillas and I also liked the consomé. It had a little bit of cinnamon Mole Lamb flautas really good mole. For dessert we had a corn cheesecake. Nice and soft and flavorful. Hotel parking is $15 but there's plenty of street parking. There's only about 10 tables. It's a good idea to make a reservation. Great service too. Grand Ave has a 2 headed monster of Bacanora and Chilte. Chilte is a fusion of the cuisine from several Mexican cities. The frequently rotating menu is small, but extremely creative and highly customizable. I ordered a quesadilla and added grasshopper (+5$). It was delicious . I wanted to lick the plate and make sure to make sure I ate every single grasshopper. My girlfriend had the torta. It was super loud inside. I'd recommend sitting outdoors on a nice evening. We enjoyed that aguachile, some wine, a cucumber/chili appetizer and vegetarian birria (made from hibiscus). Our server was knowledgeable with recommendations and patient with our questions. I've been wanting to try Chilte for a while and finally made reservations for my husband and I to go to dinner one night after stopping by during the morning for their coffee and pastry service. It's a small space, but beautifully decorated. The staff are very kind and offered great service. They have a limited menu and switch it up frequently. It really feels like every detail of this place has been extremely well thought out. We both ordered the chorizo burger, split the yuca frites, I had a cocktail, and my husband had a beer. Cocktail was overpriced in my opinion, which are cocktails nowadays, but it ran us about $20. The yuca frites were delicious. The server informed us they had no chorizo or pineapple for the burger, so two ingredients missing from the meal. We decided to stick with our order, and the burger was good, but we ended up paying full price for a burger that was missing two key ingredients. It seemed a little odd to me that they had no chorizo or pineapple as we came in at 6:30 and dinner service started at 5. And for having such a limited menu and only a few main courses, I feel like extra care and planning should go in to having the listed ingredients on hand.
