It really pains me to have to give Cleaverman two stars. This was the last PDC restaurant on our list, and we finally made it there for dinner last night. I want to be clear. The music, seriously - the best playlist I have EVER heard in my life (I love the disco era), 100 out of 5 stars. The design? Again, absolutely incredible. Service? Top-notch. The appetizers and drinks? Great. Wine selection? Not a crazy markup; worth it. The steaks, though? The whole point? A disaster. My husband had the 22oz Bone-In, Dry-Aged Ribeye; I had the 20oz Ribeye. We had considered the 4oz Tohoku A5 Strip Loin, but opted to pass (we figured we'd come back for it. Both were ordered medium rare, and maybe they were on the outside edges, but as you got in, it just got tougher, and tougher, and tougher. You shouldn't have to practically hacksaw a steak that's medium rare. And of course, we got these at 9:30 PM; we're not gonna send it back and make everyone wait. What is interesting, though, is that after the steaks came out, we were never asked how they were until it was clear that we had given up; we were asked about dessert - and again, the waiter was great; service was great. But if you're coming here for steak, you may need to order it rare or blue to get medium rare. What pains me is that a similar experience happened at Filthy Animal (which I've noted in my past review). Yes, we went right when it opened, but I've never had a tomahawk steak that was brisket on the outside and rare on the inside. However, I will say that Roman (we went this weekend) actually did a really good job with their steak (review to come), and Wren & Wolf? Also, a pretty great steak. But ultimately, we had looked forward to Cleaverman really setting the record straight for PDC, and it didn't. I don't know what it is about PDC restaurants. They're light on salt, heavy on the flame, and honestly, it seems like they just have a bad meat buyer/supplier. At the end of the night, we asked ourselves, "What if we had ordered the A5?" and thought, "We would have absolutely loved the music, but it would've been heartbreaking to hear it while eating what would've likely been an even worse steak." read more

We were seated in the bar as soon as we walked in. Ambiance is incredible - this place really sets the tone with moody lighting and fitting music. The meatballs were delicious according to my partner, but the fries were VERY mediocre and honestly gross. The food was not our favorite. It started off great with the French onion meatballs and escargot appetizers. I thought both dishes were unique and excellent. We also got the shellfish gratin (crab), which was a bit salty and too much like the escargot (which was better). I wish our server would have told us that. Dinner was not the best. The steak quality was not great. We ordered the very expensive lobster wellington because we wanted to try it, but it just didn't work well. The prosciutto made it too salty and since lobster is hard to cut, the whole thing fell apart. The lobster inside was cooked well, so we would have been better off ordering lobster only. For the sides, we ordered the creamed corn bread and creamed spinach. We were expecting creamed corn but it was literally bread with corn underneath, and the spinach was too salty so we had to send it back. For my husband's birthday the only dessert they offered complimentary was the Dubai chocolate parfait. Meh. There was hardly any chocolate and it was mostly filled with the kataifi. Two had cocktails and I had a "never-empty" Coke Zero. We were well-taken care of from the moment we walked in, until our last moment there. I did notice a manager catering to a woman that was alone at the bar? He didnt really seem to care that my party and I were standing there waiting to be seated at one of the five empty tables around me. Awful. It's worth mentioning that I booked on open table with my sapphire reserve card that is meant to get preferred seating? What a joke. I brought some of my staff to impress them. The Cleaverman is a really nice establishment. I have only been to the bar area on both occasions but each time I'm really impressed by the overall ambience and quality of food choices. On the first time that we ended up at this location, it was kind of Luke. We sat at the bar enjoyed happy hour and that was a nice treat. The prices are extraordinarily affordable, but I believe it's only for one hour at the beginning of opening up the establishment. On this occasion, we just had drinks, but we were so impressed with the quality of them and the service. We decided to come back and try it again. On our next occasion, we sat at the bar also, but we tried some appetizers. For this time it wasn't happy hour, and the drinks were a lot more pricey, but overall the quality was still there. For appetizers, we got the Wagyu meatballs, the duck fries, and crabcake. The crabcake was so delicious and tasty but you only get one and the price is high...high...high Anyway, I definitely wanna come back and actually get a reservation and have a dinner at this steakhouse. Was really nice about is that they do have a fresh meat display so you can see all the current cuts and what they're looking like. In addition, my understanding is they have a beef Omakase and what you basically get to try several sample sizes of meat all beef. So I thought that was kind of cool my understanding that that is not every night you must have reservations and it's a cost of pretty penny. I will come back here, it's likely gonna be a special occasion. Would love to try some of the desserts as they did have a Dubai chocolate parfait that looked divine. For this location, remember it is attached to the Arizona center, so if you do in a parking in the garage, make sure to bring in your ticket. I came here for my anniversary. First off the atmosphere was really nice, it felt you you were in a restaurant from the 1920s. Our server Sky was on top of everything and she made recommendations of what works with what every dish, and described everything to us perfectly. The drinks were all delicious and strong. With velvet booths in the bar, leather booths in the main dining area and golf and wood everywhere, the place feels quite upscale. You get 2 of them, but each one was like 5 bites each. We each ordered the 8 oz NY Strip with mashed potatoes and charred broccolini. I love charred broccolini, and I loved this one! I did a regular ribeye medium with béarnaise sauce, and it was perfection. The béarnaise sauce was phenomenal. The hamachi was delicious. The brussell sprouts were good but better the next day as leftovers. The wine list is good. I always drink a can with my steak, and I went with what my sister was drinking, so I don't know what I had which is unlike me but I trusted they had nice wine to pair and they did. Came here on a whim on a Saturday night with my husband before a comedy show because I was craving a really good martini. I started with the house brine martini (vodka), and honestly, it wasn't my favorite, the onion flavor was a bit overpowering. The brine is supposed to be pepperoncini, olive, and pickle, but it didn't quite hit the balance I was hoping for. We also ordered the bread, which I think would've been much better served warm. It came out a little cold, and the topping leaned a bit too heavily on bacon bits for my taste. For starters, we had oysters on the half shell half West Coast, half East Coast. We ordered the A5 Australian Wagyu filet and added a caviar-topped lobster tail, and both were phenomenal. Everything was cooked perfectly and felt like a true treat. I have the best bosses! For lunch on Admin Professionals Day, they took me to Cleaverman. And it was so good! We tried so many dishes! There were definitely some standouts. Let's start with dessert. We tried both the cheesecake and the chocolate cake. Please don't make me choose a favorite because I really can't. Both were amazing - so full of flavor. Ok, back to the beginning. The Oysters! We had both east coast and west coast. I hate to say it being from New England, but I liked the West Coast best. East was good, but west were just a little better. Being from New England, we had to try the lobster roll. It was decent, but IMO, too many additions. I prefer my lobster roll without all the fancy accessories. All I need is a whole lot lobster, a little mayo or butter and a nice toasty roll. The French Onion Meatballs were unique, but absolutely delicious. Another favorite was the shrimp ceviche. The addition of the horseradish was unexpected but really worked well with the shrimp. Check my photos to see everything we tried. All of it was so good! They definitely upcharge for a larger group. I know it's supposed to include the appetizers, the sides, and the dessert, but you don't get that much as it's all shared, and for my entree I ordered the chicken, which is normally $38 on the menu, so to pay $175 was pretty steep in my opinion. They also charged us all for the still water, which I thought was crazy! I didn't think there was an upcharge on still/flat water unless you were ordering sparkling water. Went to Cleaverman Steakhouse in downtown Phoenix. Parking was easy if you can grab a meter out front, and they also offer valet. I was a little bummed there wasn't any Christmas décor or seasonal specials. We started with the charbroiled oysters, which were really good, but for the price I wish you got more than three. The duck fat fries were a huge win--super flavorful, crispy, and topped with pieces of duck that almost turned into a gravy. Definitely one of the best things we had. The baked potato rolls didn't live up to the hype. They mostly just tasted like bread with herbs and butter, and I didn't really get why they were so highlighted on the menu. The branzino was cooked perfectly with great crispy skin. My only complaint was that the tomatoes served with it could've been cooked a bit more. We paired it with whipped potatoes and mac & cheese. The whipped potatoes were solid, but the mac & cheese was honestly the weakest dish--it tasted like boxed mac & cheese, which was disappointing for a restaurant like this.
