In case you hadn't been to Downtown Phoenix in a while, it's no longer an area to visit only during sports games and leave immediately afterward. It's got wonderful shops and fantastic restaurants, like Cleaverman. It's got a retro-lounge feel that mixes 70s playboy with modern flair. Thick chocolate brown velvet curtains line the entry way and part at the hostess stand to reveal a gorgeous bar, golden accents, and walls adorned with vintage artwork and rich textures. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They'll keep your drinks topped off and make sure you're comfortable and well fed throughout the night. I had the 6 oz filet with macaroni, whipped potatoes and broccolini. The potatoes had a little more garlic than I prefer, but otherwise the rest of the meal was perfection. The steak came out exactly as ordered, medium, and the crust was flavorful and not too thick. Macaroni and cheese could have been a meal all to itself and the broccolini was al dente and coated in breadcrumbs and Parmesan. Add this hidden gem to your list of places to try. Came here to celebrate my husband's 63rd birthday and loved it. The atmosphere is very upscale and inviting. A special occasion restaurant for sure. My husband ordered the ribeye and said it was the best steak he has ever had. I went with the shellfish gratin with lobster and it was very tasty. We tried the crab mac and cheese but wasn't a big fan. It was good but seemed like it had a tomato base and neither of us like tomatoes so that's on us. I came here for my anniversary. First off the atmosphere was really nice, it felt you you were in a restaurant from the 1920s. Our server Sky was on top of everything and she made recommendations of what works with what every dish, and described everything to us perfectly. The drinks were all delicious and strong. This is now my favorite steakhouse. It is elegant and with wonderful service as expected from a steakhouse. The ribeye was outstanding. I did a regular ribeye medium with béarnaise sauce, and it was perfection. The béarnaise sauce was phenomenal. The hamachi was delicious. The brussell sprouts were good but better the next day as leftovers. The wine list is good. I always drink a can with my steak, and I went with what my sister was drinking, so I don't know what I had which is unlike me but I trusted they had nice wine to pair and they did. It was served at perfect temperature as expected. My sister had the petit filet and loved it. We plan to return. I will again order the ribeye. read more

The Cleaverman is a really nice establishment. I have only been to the bar area on both occasions but each time I'm really impressed by the overall ambience and quality of food choices. On the first time that we ended up at this location, it was kind of Luke. We sat at the bar enjoyed happy hour and that was a nice treat. The prices are extraordinarily affordable, but I believe it's only for one hour at the beginning of opening up the establishment. On this occasion, we just had drinks, but we were so impressed with the quality of them and the service. We decided to come back and try it again. On our next occasion, we sat at the bar also, but we tried some appetizers. For this time it wasn't happy hour, and the drinks were a lot more pricey, but overall the quality was still there. For appetizers, we got the Wagyu meatballs, the duck fries, and crabcake. The crabcake was so delicious and tasty but you only get one and the price is high...high...high Anyway, I definitely wanna come back and actually get a reservation and have a dinner at this steakhouse. Was really nice about is that they do have a fresh meat display so you can see all the current cuts and what they're looking like. In addition, my understanding is they have a beef Omakase and what you basically get to try several sample sizes of meat all beef. So I thought that was kind of cool my understanding that that is not every night you must have reservations and it's a cost of pretty penny. I will come back here, it's likely gonna be a special occasion. Would love to try some of the desserts as they did have a Dubai chocolate parfait that looked divine. For this location, remember it is attached to the Arizona center, so if you do in a parking in the garage, make sure to bring in your ticket. First, the ambiance of this place is top notch. The moment you enter and walk down the small hallway that is draped in brown velvet, the atmosphere is set. With velvet booths in the bar, leather booths in the main dining area and golf and wood everywhere, the place feels quite upscale. Our server came promptly and was fairly attentive throughout the evening. There is a buzz of staff so around, so our water was constantly being topped off and empty plates were cleared right away. I ordered my usual amaretto sour, and it was delicious. The egg white foam had a little feather drawn on it. Hubby ordered a Heineken on draft, but they were out and he had to have it in a bottle. He was disappointed, but it was okay. We started with the French onion meatballs with crostini and the colossal shrimp cocktail. If you know me, you know I'm weird about onions, but I did that the French onion meatballs, and they were good. The shrimp in my cocktail were HUGE. You get 2 of them, but each one was like 5 bites each. We each ordered the 8 oz NY Strip with mashed potatoes and charred broccolini. I love charred broccolini, and I loved this one! The steaks were cooked perfectly. For dessert we shared a chocolate fudge cake with raspberry sorbet. Delish!!!! This meal was so good! Started with the Wagyu carpaccio and the escargot and both were fantastic! I had the fancy girl cocktail and it was really good. It was a little small but so tasty. then for my main I had the fillet and I loved it with the Bernaise sauce! My mom had some issues with her prime rib, but that was partially on her and even still the restaurant really made sure that she got something that she liked. Came here on a whim on a Saturday night with my husband before a comedy show because I was craving a really good martini. I started with the house brine martini (vodka), and honestly, it wasn't my favorite, the onion flavor was a bit overpowering. The brine is supposed to be pepperoncini, olive, and pickle, but it didn't quite hit the balance I was hoping for. We also ordered the bread, which I think would've been much better served warm. It came out a little cold, and the topping leaned a bit too heavily on bacon bits for my taste. For starters, we had oysters on the half shell half West Coast, half East Coast. As a West Coast girly, those were my favorite! Super fresh huge,and absolutely delicious. Dinner, though, was the highlight. We ordered the A5 Australian Wagyu filet and added a caviar-topped lobster tail, and both were phenomenal. Everything was cooked perfectly and felt like a true treat. We also tried the mashed potatoes, which unfortunately were a bit gluey and overmixed. I gave the martini another shot with a classic olive brine vodka version, but it still didn't wow me. I have the best bosses! For lunch on Admin Professionals Day, they took me to Cleaverman. And it was so good! We tried so many dishes! There were definitely some standouts. Let's start with dessert. We tried both the cheesecake and the chocolate cake. Please don't make me choose a favorite because I really can't. Both were amazing - so full of flavor. Ok, back to the beginning. The Oysters! We had both east coast and west coast. I hate to say it being from New England, but I liked the West Coast best. East was good, but west were just a little better. Being from New England, we had to try the lobster roll. It was decent, but IMO, too many additions. I prefer my lobster roll without all the fancy accessories. All I need is a whole lot lobster, a little mayo or butter and a nice toasty roll. The French Onion Meatballs were unique, but absolutely delicious. Another favorite was the shrimp ceviche. The addition of the horseradish was unexpected but really worked well with the shrimp. Check my photos to see everything we tried. All of it was so good! I have been dying to try this place and see what Pretty Decent Concepts newest addition was like. I'd say they hit it on the head with this one. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday, and the restaurant decor is absolutely impeccable. Super nice upscale restaurant with nice service. We attended a group birthday party dinner with a set menu and were surprised at the group rate of $175 per person. They definitely upcharge for a larger group. I know it's supposed to include the appetizers, the sides, and the dessert, but you don't get that much as it's all shared, and for my entree I ordered the chicken, which is normally $38 on the menu, so to pay $175 was pretty steep in my opinion. They also charged us all for the still water, which I thought was crazy! I didn't think there was an upcharge on still/flat water unless you were ordering sparkling water. Went to Cleaverman Steakhouse in downtown Phoenix. Parking was easy if you can grab a meter out front, and they also offer valet. I was a little bummed there wasn't any Christmas décor or seasonal specials. We started with the charbroiled oysters, which were really good, but for the price I wish you got more than three. The duck fat fries were a huge win--super flavorful, crispy, and topped with pieces of duck that almost turned into a gravy. Definitely one of the best things we had. The baked potato rolls didn't live up to the hype. They mostly just tasted like bread with herbs and butter, and I didn't really get why they were so highlighted on the menu. The branzino was cooked perfectly with great crispy skin. My only complaint was that the tomatoes served with it could've been cooked a bit more. We paired it with whipped potatoes and mac & cheese. The whipped potatoes were solid, but the mac & cheese was honestly the weakest dish--it tasted like boxed mac & cheese, which was disappointing for a restaurant like this. However, I'm writing this as a former restaurant owner and operator from the Bay Area because the kitchen needs a wake-up call. To the owner: you need to change your steak distributor immediately. The Australian Wagyu was the worst I have ever had. Between Cleaverman's and Filthy we spent over $1600 for the night and while we don't look at pricing when we go out, we do expect a decent meal for that kind of money. The kitchen quality is just not there. I love to try and review dishes at places I dine at, and the rest of the table was equally disappointed. I tried the prime rib, and it was just okay--certainly not the best. The lamb had a nice presentation, but the flavor was mild and very mediocre, definitely not life-changing. Our friend's girlfriend didn't even touch her steak. She described it as dry. It's not chicken, yet it's dry? It was well overcooked and not tasty at all. It's disappointing because the front of house is doing everything right, but the product being served is a letdown. I'll be making a separate post about Filthy, but for Cleaverman's, the sourcing and QC need to be addressed if you want to match the premium experience you're charging for. Feels super exclusive and the decor is like on the 20's. we got an edge salad which was probably the best tasting salad I've ever had, 12 oz filet the Brussel sprouts and mac and cheese! My friend booked us for dinner at 4pm on opening weekend. We got there about 10 minutes before 4pm and were seated immediately. Upon entering you will feel transported to a different era. It is pricier but I understand that the ambiance comes with eating here and the price. The bread and the escargot will not disappoint so definitely try that especially if you've never had escargot before The guys all got steak which they said was good but more on the well done side instead of medium rare like they asked. Seasoning is still good but the char was too much. Broccolini, Brussels sprouts and Mac and cheese was also delicious and worth a try. The side dish with corn was not good st all so don't get that unless you really love anything with corn hahaha I got the branzino and that did not disappoint. I know it's a steakhouse but if you offer fish, I will give it a shot to see if they really know what they're doing back there and this was a hit. My friends did say they wish they got something else instead of the steak due to the excessive char and not getting the cook done correctly. Drinks were strong but delicious! Not a lot of vodka choices but the way they mix their drinks, even if it's a scotch it won't taste that heavy which is good. We didn't get dessert but went for more drinks at the filthy martini bar. The season for the 4 stars is due to the water situation. It may seem like a small detail but it's not. Two people got sparkling and two got still. Every single pourer got it wrong. One of them even poured house water in the sparkling and the still. So that was definitely awkward. We tried Cleaverman Steakhouse on their very first night open to the public, and overall we really enjoyed our experience. My drink, Mischief in a Glass, was absolutely delicious. The bread itself was phenomenal, although the raw onion and bacon mixed into the butter weren't really for me. The Caesar salad was really good, and the duck fries had a lot of potential. They came out hot, but the bottom was a little soggy. I wasn't a fan of the cheese sauce, but the duck confit with just the Parmesan would have been perfect. For entrées, I had the lamb chops and they were very good--although a red wine reduction or sauce option would've taken them to the next level. My fiancé ordered the porterhouse, and both the mac and cheese and the broccolini were good (the mac was just a bit too cheesy for our taste). Service-wise, our server was kind and attentive. She seemed a little nervous, which is completely understandable for opening night, but I would've loved to see her personality shine more. The staff as a whole felt a bit on edge, and as someone who dines at fine dining restaurants often, I've noticed that the most memorable experiences come from servers who feel relaxed and personable.
