Some family and I decided on having brunch and came across Valentine which had food choices to our liking. Fortunately, for my group of 8, we were able to call ahead and make a reservation where they put us out in the patio area. The area was well shaded and the cool weather made the experience pleasant! Onto the food, I decided to have hot fried chicken and waffles. This was actually pretty good as a classic sweet and savory dish. Fried chicken alone had great flavor and didn't need the side sesame dressing at all. It was a bit dry despite being thin. The pickled veggies were a nice palate cleanser. The waffle was moist and delicious as well. I would say I was still hungry after this so pairing it with some crispy tater tots would be solid. Visited today for the first time. Be careful when driving by because the sign out front is easy to miss. Good lively crowd for a Thursday afternoon. I went with the jalapeño cheddar cornbread with honey butter. It was good but the consistency was a little dense. I prefer a little more moist piece of cornbread. I then went with the burger and Tater tots and they were very good. The squash bun was unique and tasty. The tots were good but the birdseed sprinkled on top felt completely unnecessary. Valentine had been on my want-to-try list for way too long, and it did not disappoint! The food was outstanding. My favorites were the tomato salad, the shrimp toast, and the fig dessert. The pastry chef turned figs into a beautiful, delicious masterpiece, and the cactus-shaped cake with ice cream was such a fun Arizona touch. There were so many other dishes I'm already dreaming about trying next time. We also loved the non-alcoholic drink selection, with plenty of creative options beyond the usual mocktail. Well, I was born the day after Valentine's Day, so I was certainly intrigued by a restaurant with a name like Valentine. I stopped by on a Friday evening at 7:45 with a friend. We had a reservation, but there were several tables open, so we probably would have been find. They have a complimentary lot, but it's not that big. Thankfully, I was able to find a spot. Ambiance (4/5): Valentine is a charming restaurant. Relatively small but comfortable. They have an open kitchen and there are also some couches in addition to your typical seating. We sat at a two-person table. It was a little small, but it was fine. And it was a little hot inside. Something to be mindful of, especially during August in Phoenix. Service (4.5/5): The service throughout was great. Attentive, efficient, and friendly. Our waiter did well taking care of us. No complaints. Drinks (4.5/5): Valentine has a nice wine and cocktail list. I ended up going with a Chilean wine. Potentially the first time I've had wine from Chile. My dining partner liked her cocktail. Food (4/5): We started off with the Sonoran what pretzel as an appetizer. It's served with whipped hen butter and honey comb which is an interesting take. A little mix of sweet and savory. And hey, I'll take a healthier pretzel every day of the week as long as it still tastes good. It did. Crispy on the exterior and soft on the inside just as you hope. One of their most popular starters. From there, I had the elote pasta which is their most popular dish. The presentation is awesome. The pasta is made to look like corn on the cob. And this was my first time having elote pasta. I love elote and I love pasta, so I was excited to try this fusion. Sadly, while not bad, both me and my friend agreed that it could have been better. We appreciated the creativity, including the dry corn kernels sprinkled on top, but the sauce was just too dry. It needed more creaminess to take it to where it could be. Pro tip: Valentine has a speakeasy inside of their restaurant. Stop by afterwards for a night cap. You can get in either through the restaurant or through the back. Here's a Short-cut summary: Exceptional food! Exceptional service! Cute place! We dined here on a Sunday morning, late in September, in the year of our Lord, 2026...and It really was exceptional and memorable. Every beverage, and every entre' had layers of subtle flavor that had us all raving and passing around spoon and fork-fulls of samples that we shared together. My daughter had the breakfast sandwich and it was great (*beyond great, actually). I had just eaten the free breakfast offered at the hotel we stayed at last night, so only ordered the tomato salad (it had a catchy name that I think had something to do with a Bloody Mary, but I didn't take notes and my buhh...buhh...brain is not as sharp as it used to be, so I could be completely wrong about the name. Ask the staff and I bet they will know what I am refering to. It was fantastic and had others at a neighboring table asking what it was and how it was (I gave the "oh my gawd this is soooo good' eyebrows) to indicate that is was to kill or die for. Finally, my wife went for the mashed avocado toast selection, and I can honestly say that the bite I took to sample it was enough to have me come to the conclusion that it was the best avocado toast that I have ever had. When our waiter checked on how we were doing, the conversation lead to his sharing that almost all the offerings at VALENTINE are made with near-by farm to table ingredients. I hinted at how pleasant the beverages that we ordered were. Our waiter (who goes by the name, Jake and was super-personal, professional and caring) suggested the Cajeta Latte. I have never been let down by suggestions from staff at restaurants, so that was my choice. Muy Bueno! My daughter did the same, except that she went low and I went high (regarding temperature of the drink). My wife ordered a chai and kept saying how good it was as she sipped hers throughout the meal. To summarize, this place is fantastic and if you like food that is made by those with love of cooking in their souls--who appear to take joy in "wowing" others as they dine, VALENTINE should be put on your culinary bucket list. So a fellow Yelper and I decided to cross another one off our list. Enter Valentine in the Melrose District. It's very dimly lit for dinner service, but makes for a great romantic ambiance if that's what you're after. We started off with the Sonoran Wheat Pretzel as an appetizer. It comes with a housemate whipped hen butter which was amazing! Very light and fluffy in texture and smooth on the palate. It meshed well with the honeycomb. The pretzels themselves were nice and fluffy on the inside and we liked that they were hot and fresh! I couldn't decide on an entrée, but ultimately chose the Elote Pasta. We both did. It was unique in flavor and we especially appreciated the presentation as it literally looks like an elote corn on the cob. I ordered the Jungle Bird cocktail and I loved it. Perfect balance of sweetness and alcohol. You know how I like 'em! Service was fantastic as we never had to flag anyone down and we were very well taken care of throughout our visit. I did drop a star because it was pretty hot in the dining room. It made the experience slightly uncomfortable but we worked with it. Also, the pasta was tasty, but we both agreed it needs more sauce. My son and I came here for breakfast just a couple days after they got the honor of being listed in the Michelin guide. It was pretty full, but they were kind enough to ask somebody to move down at the bar to make two seats together for us. I really appreciated that because a lot of places won't do that. The decor here is so bright and airy with lots of tables and chairs. There are more loungy areas with low, upholstered chairs. If all has kind of a mid-century modern feel. There is a bar on one side. You can see right into the kitchen which, if you know me, is something i like. We sat it at the bar, which somehow feels very communal - - and I love it. I ended up making a new friend while I had my breakfast. In the same building is a vintage store, which is definitely worth a visit. There is a speakeasy, too, but, you know, it was only 9:30 a.m. I ordered the Chiltepin Shakerato, which is an iced espresso shaken with Chiltepin chile and cacao. It was sooooo good! For breakfast I had the daily quiche (which comes with a side salad) and my son had the Tres Leches French Toast. Both were delicious! The French toast was ooey and gooey and so good. One of the things that I noticed here and that I really applaud this place for is the wonderful hospitality. Drinks have a variety of cocktails wines and coffeea all sounded grea. We tried a peppery coffee and tumeric latte which were the best. For food we got the croque madam and the dulche de leche gf waffle. Both so good. My only thing was the waffle was incredibly sweet and covered in so much flavor. I came to the Valentine because I'm an Amex Platinum card holder, and it's nearby and on Resy. We had a Resy credit expiring that night and were celebrating me and my lover's anniversary with a romantic dinner. Given the reviews, we were excited! We booked for 7:30 P.M. It looked busy but not so busy, and we were seated immediately. We didn't get an introduction to a server. Our drinks were served right away, and a gentleman we thought was our server took our order. We told him we'd never been there, and he walked us through the menu, shared recommendations, and gave us a lot of attention. He brought our appetizers, checked how they tasted, and helped us order dinner. Someone else brought dinner, which was fine, though in hindsight we wondered where we'd done something wrong. We enjoyed dinner and each other's company so much that we hadn't realized nobody had visited us for 51 minutes after dinner arrived. We thought our server had forgotten us, but we saw him covering nearby tables without making eye contact with us for the rest of the evening. The woman who'd taken our drink order and seated us cleared our plates. We asked for the bill. She said sure, made an awkward face (didn't seem pleased), nodded, and walked away. We watched her fill drinks and clear tables, but not get our bill. The gentleman continued servicing nearby tables without returning or looking our way, almost seeming to avoid eye contact. We were both staring, and not a peep in our direction. He'd been attentive before dinner, but after that--nada. I have a time stamp because I photographed dinner when it arrived. We hoped to enjoy a sweet treat for our anniversary, but with no menu or attention, we figured we should go. We'd already been there an hour after dinner arrived. I finally stood at the counter, where we'd seen others get attention, and was ignored. After about two minutes, I stood next to the party being attended until "our" server looked at me. I asked, "Aren't you our server?" He looked me directly in the eye and said, "no, I'm not." I was baffled, given he'd attended us all evening. He said, "tonight we're doing a Group service, so that's possibly why there was confusion." I felt a little gaslit being told he wasn't our server when he had been. I said OK, no problem, we'd like our bill to head out, could he help? Only then did he apologize for missing the mark. He mentioned the team being busy and the printers not working, rambled, and apologized. The woman we'd asked almost 20 minutes earlier came to the host station, avoided eye contact, grabbed something, and stepped away. He offered to remove our drinks--my partner had only a beer and sparkling water--saying, "maybe it can help soften the blow." I said that's all right, though he did not remove them. He gave us the bill. I think this was the first time I didn't leave a cash tip, regrettably. One of the worst service experiences I've had at dinner with my partner. The ambience was nice--it's giving evening romance. It looked busy, but not so busy you couldn't attend a table. Nearby tables received service, check-ins, refills, and bussing. I had much higher hopes. Let's talk food. I had the Hamachi. He might have tried to talk me out of it, to his credit, but my partner had tasty hamachi elsewhere and I was excited for good fish. The flavor was good, but it was overcooked and not as tender as it could've been. The dish was unique, but I don't think the flavors blended well: a slightly sweet vinegar salad, green chili sauce underneath, and a crispy shell on the fish. Together, they didn't complement well. I should've listened. He said other dishes were more preferred and ordered, and one guest had ordered it and left unpleased. My partner's elote pasta we enjoyed. The crispy corn, the pasta texture, Parmesan, subtle flavors, and tasty sauce combined beautifully. The noodles were cooked perfectly, so that was finished. We very much enjoyed the pretzel!! It was his suggestion, and we complimented it to him, talking about how delicious and magical it was: almost crispy outside, a teeny hint of sweet but savory, and so soft inside it almost melted in your mouth. The soft whipped butter and honeycomb square were delightful. All three together were delectable! We also enjoyed the baby salad and baby radishes. The dressing was perfect, with a Caesar hint and some sweetness; the pepitas were yummy. My partner isn't a big salad fan, but tried it and said it was really good. Dinner was $116. We were mostly happy with the meal. Service brings this review down. I'd rate food 3 1/2 stars; it wasn't out of this world. I have no desire to return. I can't tell you if they offer dessert; perhaps there's another menu we weren't offered. The bar in back, 1912 - great drinks. We could've enjoyed liquid dessert but were done after being ignored. The menu has a really cool and unique concept, so I was excited to try everything. The pretzel was a little too chewy for my taste, although I really loved the honey served on the side. The steak was good, but honestly, it wasn't anything that wowed me. Also the hamachi crudo which is usually my favorite at any restaurant was not very good unfortunately. Overall, I think I was expecting more from the food because the menu sounded so interesting. Once everything arrived, I just wasn't blown away by the flavors. We're visiting the area for a few days, and had just enough time to drop in and pick up some coffee and pastries. Staff is friendly and helpful. All of their pastries look so enticing and we wanted one each, with the exception of the caramel apple kouign amann which is not ready for another half hour. The sticky bun is our favorite, it's a squash sweet roll with a delicate flavor of gooey date and crushed pistachio. We also got a cacao nib banana bread (moist cardamom spiced banana bread wrapped in banana leaves), an ojo de buey (crispy puff pastry wrapped around a eye of orange cake), and a cajeta iced latte (made with stone fruit carmel). I originally found Valentine from an instagram post over a year ago advertising an Al pastor croissant and it's been our list to come and visit when we're in the phoenix area ever since. Valentine also shares the building with Modern Manor, an antiques and mid-century furniture store, but we didn't get a chance to check that out since we were there early grabbing pastries for the ride out. For way too long Valentine was sitting on my list of places to try. We had family visiting from Cali and they know one of servers working there, so they asked if I have been, I said no but I would love to go. I always planned to go for dinner, I didn't even know they were open for brunch. Well now I do, and it was SO delicious that I would like to come back to try other menu items. The ambiance of Valentine is like being in Palm Springs at a resort enjoying brunch. It's very mid-century modern and I love the decor. They have a large outdoor patio that is probably nice when it's not summer. We sat inside and noticed there is a vintage market (Modern Manor) attached to the restaurant, we went there after eating. (A cute place with some pricey items. I'll post a separate review of the store.) Our server Pete, he was exceptional. He knows my cousins' husband and he gave us the grand tour of the menu. His recommendations were spot on, and we wanted for nothing. We started with handcrafted drinks, I really enjoyed the coffee menu options, with unique flavors. I had the iced Cajeta latte with oat milk. Cajeta is like a Mexican caramel and was very good with espresso. I also tried the chiltepin shakerato (a slight spicy mocha) and golden milk (turmeric latte). I really liked all of them. Then we had a fantastic sampler plate of pastries-- piñon croissant, morning swirl, and churro croissant roll. Baked fresh, these are really great! My fave was the morning swirl. I would come back to try the other pastries alone. Next we had the chula seafood crudo with a delicious agua chile sauce. Then onto our entrees-- avocado toast, breakfast sando, tortilla espanola, tres leche French toast, tater tots, and for good measure the Sonoran dog. I was able to try all the dishes and everything was awesome. The toast used is a thick Texas toast type of bread that is called squash brioche-- so good! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, you can tell that Valentine cares about using fresh, local, high quality/ interesting ingredients with unique flavors. I mean they add trout roe to their Sonoran dog and serve with house made allium-nori chips... how fun is that?! And mesquite-pecan butter with sorghum-sage syrup for the French toast is so rich and sweet. That's a dessert type brunch dish for sure. We had so much food, we couldn't finish so we boxed up leftovers which heated up and tasted great the next day. I fully intend to come back for the dinner menu and have cocktails at Bar 1912. I stopped in for dinner and took a seat at the bar. The dim amber lighting creates a nice calm ambiance. The dinner menu offers a nice assortment of choices. I started off with a glass of chardonnay, very refreshing. For food, I went with the Little Gem salad and the pork ribs. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our servers were absolutely wonderful. The drinks and food were both top-notch, and the ambiance was calm, atmospheric, and romantic without feeling stuffy. The food was easily a 10/10. Everything was so unique, flavorful, and made with such high-quality ingredients. You can really tell there's a lot of thought put into the menu. After dinner, we were escorted over to their lounge next door for a nightcap and listening party, which was such a fun addition to the evening. We loved the experience so much that when our waiter mentioned they also serve breakfast, we came back the very next day to try the breakfast menu for the first time! And WOW -- breakfast did not disappoint. We tried the Sonoran dog with roe, tres leches French toast, steak and eggs, and the tamale bowl. Everything was amazing, but the Sonoran dog with roe was LIFE CHANGING. I would highly recommend either the steak and eggs or the Sonoran dog. The French toast was delicious, but I was glad we had some heartier dishes to balance it out. And I can't forget the thrift store! It's absolutely adorable, and I especially loved all of the crochet blankets. Between the food, service, atmosphere, lounge experience, and all the little details, Valentine is such a special place. Huge wine list, even though I didn't order any. We ordered the olives with Mahon cheese (serves as a fabulous appetizer. We also enjoyed the Sonoran wheat pretzel (wow, it was delicious!!!!) then the elote pasta and the pork ribs. Pasta was a good portion and the meat on those ribs had delicious flavor and fell off the bone. You could ask for an additional one if you want. We then had dessert, I think they rotate them so if you want to try this unique and delicious and light corn cheesecake make sure they have it. It wasn't heave and the red corn masa crust flavors reminded me of flavors my mom used to bake. The ambience was soothing and cool. Octagon shaped bricks held wine bottles. Various types of seats for eating ...high counter seats that overlook the street and the Melrose sign, leather seats to sit comfortably with friends, the bar or various other seating options. Room for semi large groups or two seaters. Soft lighting throughout. Service was fantastic and while somewhat pricey, it was 100% worth every penny! You ever just sit down at the table, get handed the menu, glance at it for a second then look up at who you're with and have a shared look of "oh no" come across your faces? That was the experience our group had at Valentine. It's one of those places that's trendy and hip, and unless you're there to post to your instagram story, you'll leave wanting more. Our waiter explained that they recommend eating family style here, with the plate sizes getting bigger as you go down the menu. Maybe family style for like a nest of newly hatched birds. Half chicken, $42. No actual sides with that, just half a small chicken. 3 ribs? $24. That's $8 a pork rib. None of the food was out of this world flavors either to demand a premium price point. Not to be completely negative, the cocktails were all very enjoyable. We left here and went to In-N-Out as a group after since we were all still pretty hungry. I went to Valentine while I was in Arizona and had the burger, which came with tater tots covered in a really good sauce. The burger really surprised me it tasted amazing and was actually pretty affordable for this type of restaurant. The bartender even told me it's definitely their favorite item on the menu, and I can see why. I also had a couple of espresso martinis, and you can tell they use really good coffee as they use fresh espresso for them. My husband and I dined at Valentine on a Saturday evening and it was packed. I would recommend making reservations. Overall, I would rate the food 3.8 stars. It was good, but not good enough to return for dinner. I *might* consider trying the brunch menu, since there's better reviews for it. We started with a couple mocktails: I got the mango lassi and my husband ordered the matcha melon. We both enjoyed our own drinks better than each others. The mango lassi was more yogurt-y than mango, and had a hint of lime. The matcha melon was more match-y than melon. Both were refreshing. We ordered the famous pretzel which came out hot and fresh. It's sort of a cross over between a pretzel and a donut as it was on the sweeter side. It came with whipped butter and honeycomb which was a great combo. This tasted more like a dessert than an appetizer, but I enjoyed it. We also ordered the octopus, bison tartare, and elote pasta. Everything was pretty good but it was so salty, especially the octopus. Nothing was outstanding though. We ordered the charred cabbage which took so long to come out that I thought our server forgot about it. When it finally arrived, it just looked straight up burnt. The inside was a little better, but when I took a bite, it tasted like ocean water. It's as if it was brined in salt for 24+ hours which is really excessive for cabbage. We asked our server to take it back since we only had one bite each. I do not recommend ordering this. Our server took awhile to give us our check. But it turns out, she surprised us with the gulab jamun dessert, which was nice. I enjoyed the cardamom ice cream but the gulab jamun (fried dough balls) were too dense and sweet. I can't believe it's taken me so long to review but Valentine was an amazing weekend brunch spot. They have a really unique menu that features a lot of Sonoran cuisine and it's attached to a vintage antique store? Heck yeah. For brunch, we were treated to a complementary squash sticky bun. This was delish, highly recommend. I also ordered the masa almond tea cake. The flavor of this was yummy but it wasn't evenly distributed. The cake was kind of dry and flavorless on the outside and moist on the inside. For my meal, I got the Tres leches French toast. Do not get this unless you're like me and have a major sweet tooth. I think this was one of the sweetest meals I've ever had, it was basically slathered in syrup. V yummy. It was fun to explore the vintage store after. It was a great way to walk off a big brunch and discover some cool pieces. If you're looking for a brunch spot in Phoenix, highly recommend Valentine. We went for indulge in brunch I'm. We were seated as soon as we walked in very little wait. David greeted us at the table and immediately took our alcoholic beverage order. He was very attentive and prompt with the service and placed our initial order. Experience was subpar from that point. The other servers weren't as attentive and some of the food items have room for improvement. Ordered the jalapeño cheddar cornbread while aesthetically pleasing seem to be a little denser and dryer than I am used to. But to each your own. We did ask for the cornbread to be warmed twice in. It came back still the temperature at when we received it. I also ordered the steak ace eggs which the steak was very tasty and I got my eggs scrambled. My friend ordered the tres leche toast, which never arrived as we figured it out in the order was never placed. But no one ever noticed that we didn't receive the item. She ended up only having a side of the steak. She visited this location previously with no issues with speed of service but midday on the Thursday seem to be challenging. Pro-tip: Really hard to find parking, you'll have to park in the neighborhoods. Highlights: They had a very unique and creative menu. I was especially blown away by their pastry display and wish I could've tried everything. Good food experience overall. Definitely a date night spot. My favorites were the elote pasta and the octopus. These are the two I would definitely come back here for. The octopus was cooked nicely, charred but with a nice soft texture and the aioli it came with was delicious. Elote pasta was so good that I could probably eat a whole serving by myself. It was like another version of cacio e pepe--a light and cheesy sauce and had crispy corn mixed in. The other food was all good too. The trout was cooked nicely. Cabbage was flavorful. Steak was solid and the tortillas and salsa verde paired well. The smoked chicken was good but not as exciting as expected--kinda like a rotisserie chicken with tzatziki. Their gulab jamun was pretty unique, I thought the orange flavor went well with the cardamom ice cream. Place is dimly lit at night and very aesthetic. The service was fine although I didn't appreciate our server's comment after we put our order in: "Wow you guys are hungry." Kinda odd for him to say that, especially since I thought we ordered appropriately and we did finish all the food. Food was thoughtful and ingredients are well-sourced and honor arizona's food profile. The octopus and elote pasta were the stars tonight. I also liked the gulab jamun dessert, especially the cardamom ice cream and orange peel that came with it. On the other hand, the chicken was a really underwhelming plate, really simple seasoning and the sauce was just tzatziki. the steak was solid, but also pretty simple, just a salsa verde on top. The beans that came with it were also salty; tortillas were fantastic tho. The cabbage was pretty good, but the passionfruit coconut yogurt sauce was too tart and overpowering. The trout was cooked beautifully with a delicious rice under it, but was overshadowed by an excessive amount of dill. The server did make a comment which we didnt really like hearing; after we ordered he said "oh, so guys are *hungry*. We ordered 2 apps and 4 entrees for four people, and to be honest it wasn't even excessive for the four of us. He insisted we would have leftovers but we finished it just fine. Service was a little short and uninvolved, but sometimes it's a busy or hard day so I get it. The server nicely comped our dessert for my dad's birthday. What a great place to go with people and to try new things. Everything is so unique. If you are looking to try interesting desserts, drinks, and a well done meal this is perfect. It's definitely easy to spend a lot of money as you will probably want to try a few things. Its connected to a vintage furniture shop with tons of awesome things to look at. A few notes about what I tried. The best thing was the tortilla espanola; The flavors were perfect and the sauce that went with it was great. The corn cappuccino was so interesting; It tasted very much like corn in a great way that compliments coffee as much as it can. The breakfast sandwich was delicious you should definitely add avocado. The tres leches French Toast was very dark and tasted almost licorice; It was interesting I don't know how I feel about it mostly because I don't think the name matched what it was. Stopped in this morning for a late breakfast/brunch. I was dining solo and was greeted warmly and able to be seated at a table. The hostess made a pastry recommendation and my server had the same recommendation so I tried the pain suisse. 10/10! It was a beautifully flaky pastry with sweetness from the guava. So delicious. I also had the seasonal quiche which was flavorful. It came with a small salad, and I will even commend them on the crispness of the lettuce. 10/10. The coffee selection is unique. I tried the cajeta latte, which was described as their take on a salted caramel latte. So good! My only critique would be the cup in comes in. While very stylish, it didn't have a handle so I had to use my napkin to pick up my cup at first. Overall, very satisfied and would highly recommend! read more

Love coming to Valentine for a nice drink and breakfast sandwich! Any time I've had a latte here it's been good but I love my matcha lattes even more. This place has a very cool chill vibe and there's tons of seating if you wanna get some work done or just relax. I've introduced many people to this spot and so far everyone has been impressed (; the shop next door is cool too if you wanna shop around afterwards, might thrift something cool! Octopus: 5/5 The best octopus dish I've ever had. My seven-year-old son kept asking for more and more. Pretzel: 4/5 The whipped butter and honeycomb paired perfectly with the pretzel. I ordered their "featured" fried chicken and caviar. Supposedly Siberian caviar, but I wouldn't know because I couldn't taste a single thing. The eggs didn't even look good, and whatever they used must've been questionable because they hid it under a blanket of sauce. Completely smothered. Zero caviar flavor. What a waste. The fried chicken itself was fine, but the portion was so tiny that for a second I thought I'd been teleported back to Amsterdam. LOL. Hubby's steak and eggs were definitely the better choice--8oz dry-aged flank steak with two eggs, porky beans, and salsa verde. Hearty, flavorful, and exactly what I wish I'd ordered. Next time, that's the move. We grabbed a few bakery items to go, which were solid. The pain au chocolat is the standout here. Came here a second time for dinner and gotta say their dinner dishes were so good! I would say the scallop crudo threw me off a little bit because this combination was a bit odd - scallop, asparagus, melon, and radish. Some bites were a bit citrusy but some were not, which was a little confusing. But the rest of the dishes were soooo good! The steak was lean but tender, the pasta was creamy and not too heavy. And love the dessert, especially the sorbet on top - really flavorful and refreshing. I'm not a fan of cilantro, but the lime cilantro granita in the middle was acceptable to me. Came here for breakfast on a Wednesday morning for my fiancé's birthday and we were not disappointed. We have heard amazing things about Valentine and finally made the pilgrimage from Gilbert to try it. Worth the drive! I tried their jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffin--phenomenal! Savory. Loved the texture. My boyfriend tried their pineapple mezcal empanada and it seriously was mind blowing. For the pastries alone--we will be back! So much to try here!!! Valentine is an amazing culinary experience from start to finish. Service is phenomenal and extremely attentive -- my water glass was never empty. It's a vibe on a Friday night in the Merose neighborhood. They do have a parking lot but when I arrived for my 7pm reservation on a Friday night (around 6:30) the lot was full and I had to drive around and find street parking -- which wasn't too hard to find but still I like a parking lot (it's the little things LOL) -- however and thankfully it is totally worth it to have to walk a little from a semi-sketchy street parking spot. I started with an AZ lemon drop cocktail and this was so delicious I could have gulped it down in one sip. My friend had a dirty vodka martini -- they didn't have her type of vodka (which I can't recall what it was) but her martini was still good. Now on to the food -- we started with some small bites, which they kind of don't clearly define which are shareables vs. which are entrees on the menu -- the waitress told us everything below the Yuca & Potato Pave is more of an entree. We had the tomato toast (which may not be on the menu anymore?) and the Yuca & Potato Pave. The tomato toast was so incredibly flavorful but I can't recall what else was on it besides blistered cherry tomatoes -- doesn't matter it was melt in your mouth delicious. Now let's talk about the Yuca & Potato Pave -- this was so amazing! The manchego crema was so silky and rich and the root veggies were crisp yet creamy inside -- if it wasn't such a fancy restaurant I would have licked my plate, LOL. For my entree I had the trout. I don't know if I have had much trout in my life but it was calling my name and I am so glad it did because it was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The trout was light and flaky and the salsa and fresh dill and pickled onions all went together so well. I was truly amazed that I loved the fish that much! We also got a bottle of wine which complemented the dinner and went down very smoothly. Overall I was very impressed with Valentine. It was a bit pricy but well worth the cost.
