My husband and I dined at Valentine on a Saturday evening and it was packed. I would recommend making reservations. Overall, I would rate the food 3.8 stars. It was good, but not good enough to return for dinner. I *might* consider trying the brunch menu, since there's better reviews for it. We started with a couple mocktails: I got the mango lassi and my husband ordered the matcha melon. We both enjoyed our own drinks better than each others. The mango lassi was more yogurt-y than mango, and had a hint of lime. The matcha melon was more match-y than melon. Both were refreshing. We ordered the famous pretzel which came out hot and fresh. It's sort of a cross over between a pretzel and a donut as it was on the sweeter side. It came with whipped butter and honeycomb which was a great combo. This tasted more like a dessert than an appetizer, but I enjoyed it. We also ordered the octopus, bison tartare, and elote pasta. Everything was pretty good but it was so salty, especially the octopus. Nothing was outstanding though. We ordered the charred cabbage which took so long to come out that I thought our server forgot about it. When it finally arrived, it just looked straight up burnt. The inside was a little better, but when I took a bite, it tasted like ocean water. It's as if it was brined in salt for 24+ hours which is really excessive for cabbage. We asked our server to take it back since we only had one bite each. I do not recommend ordering this. Our server took awhile to give us our check. But it turns out, she surprised us with the gulab jamun dessert, which was nice. I enjoyed the cardamom ice cream but the gulab jamun (fried dough balls) were too dense and sweet. There were some hits and misses, but overall, I don't know if the hits were good enough for me to return.

Been here several times now and I'm obsessed! The pastries are always incredible and fresh, get there early on the weekend because they sell out! Coffees are unique and delicious without being too sweet. Quiche is incredible. Everyone is always so nice, casual vibe, definitely one of our fave weekend brunch spots!

Overall, food was too salty and overcome by strong sauce flavors that took over flavors rather than supporting the main ingredients. Kind service and loud atmosphere. - Best part of the meal was the hatch-yuzu lemonade as it had great balance of sweet, citrus, SMOKY, and salted margarita like flavor. - octopus: nice char and was tender, but wayyyy too much overwhelming aioli that would've been better as a side, like the charred cabbage. Would've been nice to dip the aioli as the other ingredients became smothered in it, and the aioli was too salty - charred cabbage: the sauce was on the side and had an appetizing citrus, but the cabbage itself was way too salty, like it was brined & steamed to make it tender From here on out, we asked the following dishes to be less salty, but with the trend of the previous dishes, my salty threshold was already passed - yuca & potato pave: initially tasty when warm and over time became greasy. Too much cream for me, but overall the yuca & potato was good flavor - trout: first bite was salty but subsequent flavors were less salty with overall strong flavors. Would benefit with a bit more jicama or rice to balance out

Delicious food, amazing ambience and great service! What more can you ask? We went the vegetarian route- charred cabbage and the potato pave were our stars. The lemonade is more spicy than sweet and I wish I had gotten the cooler instead. We sat outside, the weather was great yesterday and didn't need the heater. If you're in phoenix enjoy this place. Is there a speakeasy right behind ;)

It's been a while since I let out this many "WOW"s during a meal! Everything we ordered was unique and satisfying (including drinks), and I love that they seriously feature local ingredients. I'm only in town for a few days and already considering dedicating another meal here ... that's how good it was! My only minor complaint was that the elote pasta was (extremely tasty but) way too salty. I get how fancy dishes sometimes salt over the top to make the flavors pop, but this was honestly too much. I still enjoyed it regardless!

Pro-tip: Really hard to find parking, you'll have to park in the neighborhoods. Highlights: They had a very unique and creative menu. I was especially blown away by their pastry display and wish I could've tried everything. While I thought the food we ordered for brunch was just OK, there are pastries had really great texture and the drinks that my party got were all delicious and special. Lowlights: We didn't have the best service while we were here. We'd ask for something and it would never come until the second or third time we asked for it things like to go boxes or a missing setting.

Good food experience overall. Definitely a date night spot. My favorites were the elote pasta and the octopus. These are the two I would definitely come back here for. The octopus was cooked nicely, charred but with a nice soft texture and the aioli it came with was delicious. Elote pasta was so good that I could probably eat a whole serving by myself. It was like another version of cacio e pepe--a light and cheesy sauce and had crispy corn mixed in. The other food was all good too. The trout was cooked nicely. Cabbage was flavorful. Steak was solid and the tortillas and salsa verde paired well. The smoked chicken was good but not as exciting as expected--kinda like a rotisserie chicken with tzatziki. Their gulab jamun was pretty unique, I thought the orange flavor went well with the cardamom ice cream. Place is dimly lit at night and very aesthetic. The service was fine although I didn't appreciate our server's comment after we put our order in: "Wow you guys are hungry." Kinda odd for him to say that, especially since I thought we ordered appropriately and we did finish all the food. Heads up: Parking was hard since spots are limited--we luckily found a spot in the neighborhood behind.

There were so many options for coffees and food. We got empanada, squash sticky bun, and pinon croissant, empanada might be my favorite, cause the sweet pastry were all on the sweeter side, it's hard to eat a whole pastry alone. The steak and eggs was good but not too special, considering the price of food. The special latte we ordered were too sweet too. I'll say they were all pricy, but the environment and service was good.

Food was thoughtful and ingredients are well-sourced and honor arizona's food profile. The octopus and elote pasta were the stars tonight. I also liked the gulab jamun dessert, especially the cardamom ice cream and orange peel that came with it. On the other hand, the chicken was a really underwhelming plate, really simple seasoning and the sauce was just tzatziki. the steak was solid, but also pretty simple, just a salsa verde on top. The beans that came with it were also salty; tortillas were fantastic tho. The cabbage was pretty good, but the passionfruit coconut yogurt sauce was too tart and overpowering. The trout was cooked beautifully with a delicious rice under it, but was overshadowed by an excessive amount of dill. The server did make a comment which we didnt really like hearing; after we ordered he said "oh, so guys are *hungry*. We ordered 2 apps and 4 entrees for four people, and to be honest it wasn't even excessive for the four of us. He insisted we would have leftovers but we finished it just fine. Service was a little short and uninvolved, but sometimes it's a busy or hard day so I get it. The server nicely comped our dessert for my dad's birthday. Restaurant was well decorated, pretty, and dark. Love the vibe here.

This place is definitely a hit or miss. I like their pastries--especially the pain au chocolat--but the actual food menu is just okay. Unfortunately for us Phoenicians, we don't have many Resy options, and the quarterly Amex dining credit basically forces us to eat out more than we need to... which is how we ended up here again. I started with an espresso martini that was actually pretty good--real coffee flavor instead of that sugary artificial stuff. Hubby went simple with an iced tea. I ordered their "featured" fried chicken and caviar. Supposedly Siberian caviar, but I wouldn't know because I couldn't taste a single thing. The eggs didn't even look good, and whatever they used must've been questionable because they hid it under a blanket of sauce. Completely smothered. Zero caviar flavor. What a waste. The fried chicken itself was fine, but the portion was so tiny that for a second I thought I'd been teleported back to Amsterdam. LOL. Hubby's steak and eggs were definitely the better choice--8oz dry-aged flank steak with two eggs, porky beans, and salsa verde. Hearty, flavorful, and exactly what I wish I'd ordered. Next time, that's the move. We grabbed a few bakery items to go, which were solid. The pain au chocolat is the standout here. I'd skip the croissant, though--Essence Bakery & Cafe easily wins that category. Total exluding the bakery items just for the meal at the table came to $110 including tip.

This place was soooo good. Everything they make has an interesting twist and is made with good quality and care. If there's something you have to try it is their pastries. Make sure to come early and order them first because they are first come first serve. I got a matcha orange croissant and my friend got a coconut corn croissant. I didn't see them on the pastry menu, so I don't know if it's always there, but I'd highly recommend if you see it. We both preferred the coconut but both were crazy good. There aren't a lot of vegetarian or pescatarian options, but the daily quiche was vegetarian when I went so I ordered it. It was very good, but didn't stand out as anything crazy. The side salad with the quiche was also very good. Loved the watermelon radish and dressing was super yummy. The last thing I got was the Matcha Melon. When my friend and I first drank it we made the exact same reaction of just like visceral shock. It is hard to pinpoint, but it is very refreshing and a bit sour. Definitely does not taste like typical matcha and I feel like it could be a bit divisive for people, but I enjoyed it. Overall, I absolutely wanna come again, but I think I'd keep it to the pastries and a drink next time. Maybe I'd try the sweeter breakfast dishes like French toast.

Got some seats at the bar and split the breakfast Sandwhich but definitely could have gotten my own. I wish we tried a pastry, they all looked amazing! Service was on top of it, had lots of employees checking in on us. The place itself is very south western vibes. I also love the bar 1912 in the back, I've been there a few times after dinner!

Came here a second time for dinner and gotta say their dinner dishes were so good! I would say the scallop crudo threw me off a little bit because this combination was a bit odd - scallop, asparagus, melon, and radish. Some bites were a bit citrusy but some were not, which was a little confusing. But the rest of the dishes were soooo good! The steak was lean but tender, the pasta was creamy and not too heavy. And love the dessert, especially the sorbet on top - really flavorful and refreshing. I'm not a fan of cilantro, but the lime cilantro granita in the middle was acceptable to me. Also love the night vibe at the restaurant! It's a great place to hang out for a weekend night!

From the moment I walked in, the lounge had a stylish but laid-back vibe that made it easy to settle in and enjoy the evening. The interior had a modern design with soft lighting, comfortable seating, and a calm atmosphere that felt perfect for spending time with friends or simply unwinding after a busy day. The music played at a good volume, creating energy without making conversation difficult. It felt more refined than a typical crowded lounge while still remaining casual and approachable. One of the highlights of the visit was the service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to help with recommendations from the menu. Everything arrived promptly, and the overall hospitality made the experience feel welcoming rather than rushed. The food and drinks were also impressive. The menu offered a good variety of options, and everything we tried was flavorful and well presented. The cocktails were especially enjoyable, carefully prepared and balanced without being overly strong. It was clear that attention was given to both presentation and quality. What I appreciated most about Smith's on 7th Lounge was the atmosphere. Some lounges focus too much on being trendy or loud, but this place managed to create a space that felt elegant and comfortable at the same time. It worked equally well for a casual evening, a small celebration, or simply relaxing over drinks and conversation. Overall, visiting Smith's on 7th Lounge was a very pleasant experience. The soothing decor and soft lighting created a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a delightful meal, especially on an unseasonably hot day. We began our culinary journey with the Larb Mushroom appetizer, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The dish featured succulent oyster mushrooms tossed with roasted rice powder, fresh mint, shallots, cilantro, and a vibrant chili-lime dressing. Each bite was a refreshing explosion of flavors, combining the earthy richness of the mushrooms with the zesty brightness of the dressing. It was light, refreshing, and a perfect precursor to the meal ahead. For her main dish, my wife chose the Pad Z U, an outstanding selection that showcased sautéed broad noodles, crispy fried tofu, and Chinese broccoli, all enveloped in a delectable sweet soy sauce. The noodles were soft and chewy, creating a delightful texture that harmonized beautifully with the vegetable medley and tofu. The heat in the dish was skillfully balanced, providing just enough kick without overwhelming the palate. My wife couldn't stop raving about it! I opted for the Kua Kling, and it truly was a star of the evening. This spicy stir-fried minced chicken was enriched with fragrant curry paste, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves, resulting in an aromatic dish that was accompanied by tender long string beans and the unique Sadtor beans. The flavor profile was complex and enticing, with each ingredient complementing the others in a delightful dance of spice and freshness. It was a dish that not only warmed my belly but also left me craving more. What elevated our experience even further was the attentiveness of our server. With a genuine smile and a welcoming demeanor, they offered excellent recommendations and ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. Their knowledge of the menu added to our enjoyment, making the dining experience even more memorable. Overall, LeDu Thai is a culinary treasure that I cannot recommend highly enough. Each dish was exceptional, bursting with flavor and crafted with care. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and a cozy ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable Thai dining experience. GOOD! inspired by taco bell's baja blast hahahah). they TREATED us to all three of their current desserts on the menu. it was the most pleasant surprise i could've imagined. my favorite was the flourless chocolate cake! it was like a thick, rich brownie, had passion fruit cream to "lighten it up" and a caramel-like taffy on the bottom my brother and sister-in-law both said their favorite was the gulab jamun (which is basically like little fried dough balls/donuts, influenced by indian flavors and spices). the mille-feuille was also fantastic - the pastry was light and airy, cream wasn't too sweet and also very light, shaved cheese on top made it have a savory bite, and the jam alongside it was strawberry rhubarb. service is always amazing, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable; it seems like everybody working here truly enjoys it. quite literally already have a reservation booked at valentine and will be coming back here beforehand. update: came back for more drinks (fernet & coke, spaghett western, negroni) and their lamb flauta. all AMAZING! and amazing order to whet the appetite before dinner at valentine.

Regardless, we gave it another shot and we were much happier the next go around. Record players in the corner and a fireplace on the opposite side of this dimly lit bar created a cozy vibe on a chilly Saturday night. We arrived right at opening and the bar filled up quickly but the volume still made it easy to have a conversation and still have an intimate night out. The drinks, this time, well balanced and delicious. My wife had the the Pantera Rosa and I had the Last Word. Both were delicious and not overly sweet. I love a good "Last Word" but the tea added a welcome and subtle layer. A nicely created cocktail without shaming the original. Servers were attentive, constantly filling up water, and making sure we were well taken care of. We will be back!

I first came across Don Woods' Say When reading a Yelp article listing out the best rooftops in…read moreeach state. Don Woods was Arizona's pick. For quite a few months, I had it on my list to visit. I finally made things happen on a Wednesday evening for a drink. Located on the roof (of course) of a boutique hotel, I find free parking in the hotel's parking lot. While it was a busy parking lot, I was able to find a spot. Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.

Really good drinks and there are some really unique ones - the Kyoto in Winter came in a very cute teacup, for example! There's a decent mocktail selection, which I appreciated as the DD. We really loved the Knotty Boyz (Garlic Parmesan) - if we hadn't eaten recently we might've ordered more to share!

I tried the Korean BBQ pizza which was really good. They had a special pizza...The Baked Potato. So happy they offer slices to try. This was pretty tastey with the seasoned potatoes on it. I particularly appreciated that they did not over potato the slice lol. The best part about the pizza in general is that the crust is light and soft. I usually prefer heavy cheese on my pizza but their was just right. I tried the Son of a B*t@# I'm In cocktail that is on happy hour for $10. The simple yet clean ingredients caught my eye...gin, aperol, elderflower, lime l, and honey made for a very refreshing drink. Also, I've been on a kick to enjoy cocktails with no ice, so this was perfect.
