Our first time at Tesota. We loved everything about the restaurant from the beautiful atmosphere to the staff and the food. If the weather permits, there is a very nice patio but it is along Camelback and the parking lot. Just a heads up, Tesota does not take reservations so plan accordingly. We started at the bar with dirty martinis. Our bartender Taylor was pleasant and followed our instructions on how we like the martinis prepared. They were both icy cold and to the rim. The restaurant was packed and Taylor handled to orders like a true pro. Impressive. Monica the hostess escorted us to our table when available. She was very pleasant as well. We sat at Eric's table who is simply outstanding. Very friendly, efficient and walked us through the menu and answered any questions. I ordered the Salumi pizza -$15 hot coppa . calabrese salumi . serrano jamon . rosemary . calabrian chili. Finally a restaurant that makes a crispy and flavorful pizza! It was delicious. My husband ordered the Seated salmon $30. He said it was cooked perfectly. eight oz . pan seared . spiced rub . grilled lemon . romesco . seasonal vegetable. My friend ordered the Szechuan fried chicken salad. $19 w/ romaine . napa cabbage . jicama . apple . peanut chile crunch. radish . cucumber . carrot . mint . cilantro . cashew vinaigrette. Tesota is a very cool spot in a part of town that just seems to collect cool spots. After wandering the vintage joints along Melrose, digging through bins at Trax On Wax and Stinkweeds Records, we closed out the day at Tesota's bar. The bartender (her name escapes me) was terrific. I watched her build drink after drink and realized she was operating on a different level. This wasn't just a bartender. This was a mixologist, equal parts precision and subtle performance. We settled on comfort food, wings, fries, grilled eggplant, and sweet potatoes. Everything was flavorful and, more importantly, carried the consistency I've found at Tesota over my many visits. I tend to gravitate toward the older, more established parts of a city, and the restaurants that grow naturally out of them. Tesota adds another layer to the depth that's quietly unfolding in Phoenix with its big-city feel and diverse and interesting clientele. Side-note: Manager, Stephanie effortlessly solved a minor issue with our check. No drama. No fuss. Just professionalism. This was my first time eating at this restaurant, as I came here for my bookclub meetup. First, the seatings were decently spacious, but it was hot and stuffy. I think the air conditioner was probably not working around our seating area. Second, the food was mid, but it could have been my order. I ordered takeout directly and ended up having a full-blown culinary experience I was not emotionally prepared for. First of all, this place is tucked into a tiny little plaza, and finding the door felt like unlocking a hidden level in a video game. There's also a Changing Hands bookstore right there, which I did NOT expect, but fully appreciated. Bonus points for the private parking lot because I was in full "grab food and disappear" mode. Let me set the scene: I rolled up looking like I had just survived a swim lesson in 2003. Sweatpants, questionable hair, zero regard for society. And you know what? Still had a totally smooth, easy pickup experience. So if you're like me, go anyway. If you know people in the area... maybe brush your hair first. Now, the food. Grilled cabbage: What in the actual magic is this? I did not know cabbage could taste like this. It was charred, slightly crisp but still had bite, layered atop a creamy yellow sauce (I NEED to know what that is), plus something with a little heat (Harrisa?), like not spicy, just a warm background kick, and crispy bits that might've been garlic or onions. There were so many flavors happening I literally had to pause and process my life. Even after sitting in the box for a bit, it held up. I devoured it. Would 100% order again without hesitation. Lamb kofta: Okay, honesty moment, I do not usualy eat the meats and I get weird about doneness. These were dense, juicy, and packed with flavor, but a little too pink/soft/squishy for my personal comfort at first. That said, once I gave them a quick air fryer moment, they were delicious. Flavor-wise? Incredible. Dressing the pita with everythung gave this warm, almost ginger-like heat (I think from the peppers?) that hits just right. The pepperoncinis could not have been your average jar situation, something different about them. Would it be my first pick next time? Probably not. But was it good? Absolutely. Greek salad (small): Perfectly balanced. Like, every bite just worked. Olives, dates, goat cheese, farro, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, nothing overpowering, everything in harmony. The dressing leaned a little tangy, almost vinegar-forward, but it balanced beautifully with the creaminess of the goat cheese and those little hits of sweetness from the dates. And the dates weren't like "oh, here's a date," it was more like "wait... was that a date? thank you." Also held up beautifully overnight in the fridge, no soggy sadness. It felt more like a really well-done side than a full meal, I was genuinely impressed. Overall: I went in expecting "quick pickup dinner" and ended up having a full sensory experience with cabbage as the star of the show (never thought I'd say that in my life). This place has an awesome happy hour! Very reasonably priced. We tried all of the small plates they offered, which do change occasionally, so if you wanted to try a specific one, I recommend you go in sooner rather than later. The chilled Thai noodles were phenomenal. Very bright citrusy soy based sauce, complemented by mango and fresh herbs. Absolutely adored the charred cabbage. It was a bit more savory and unique. Packed full of flavored in every bite. The prosciutto and melon is very neutral to me. Nothing about it really stood out and I'm not a huge prosciutto lover myself so that makes sense for me. It was fresh though. I ordered two of their mocktails, and I wasn't terribly impressed but again I have yet to discover many mocktails in restaurants that I do like. The Mezcal Matcha drink is a must if you're drinking alcohol. Our server I believe was named Adrian and he was super helpful and personable. Overall, I would come back. I think our total bill was $60 which is kind of unheard of nowadays. It's attached to a cute little bookshop/coffee shop so you could make a whole day of visiting this place. read more

I recently visited Tesota with my girls and had a bit of a mixed experience. The location is great it's right on a busy street and conveniently next to a bookstore, which makes it an easy place to stop by. Parking in the restaurant's lot is pretty limited, but there is an overflow lot across the street which helps. The atmosphere inside was relaxing and comfortable, which I appreciated. The service was friendly as well. Our waiter was very nice, although service overall was a little slow. It seemed like they may have been short-staffed, and our waiter was also taking care of a large party at the same time, so that may have played a role. Foodwise, it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The pancake was very large, which could be great, but it arrived warm on the close side of Luke warm, rather than hot. I think it would've been much better if it had been brought out right when it was finished. The bacon was a bit inconsistent too some pieces were cooked perfectly while others were undercooked, almost as if they came from two different batches. Overall, the experience just wasn't my personal favorite, so I probably wouldn't return. That said, the location and atmosphere are nice, and others might have a better experience than I did. With a few adjustments especially getting the food out hot and keeping the cooking consistent it could easily be a much stronger visit. read more

Friends and I visited this location on Saturday, February 28, a little after 11 AM. The scenery is very nice, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming. Eric provided excellent service -- he was kind, attentive, and very helpful with drink selections and menu recommendations. They offer happy hour every day from 2 PM to 6 PM with both food and drink specials. That's definitely the best time to visit if you're looking to save and enjoy some great deals. On average, a meal with a drink ranges from about $20-$30 or more depending on what you order. We ordered the classic cheeseburger (well done) with wedge fries, the crispy fish sandwich with wedge fries, and the butter pecan pancake served with a side of bacon and a coffee drink. The drink I had that was very good was called newton's fig. Overall, the food and drinks were very good and flavorful. A small tip for future visitors: you may want to request the wedge fries cooked less crispy, as ours were a bit too hard to fully enjoy. Also, make sure the bacon is cooked thoroughly, as some pieces were slightly undercooked. The pancake was 1 big size maybe would be better to to have 2 pancakes per order w: 1 side included. In addition; to make sure all food is brought out hot not warm because all our food was just warm. The restaurant is conveniently located in our plaza and offers both a main parking lot and overflow parking across the street. There are also other nearby stores to enjoy, including a bookstore and a breakfast spot right next door. Overall, we had a good experience with delicious drinks, good food, and friendly service, and we would visit again. read more

I brought my wife here for brunch on Mother's Day and a friend of ours joined us as well. It was a nice looking establishment. Right on Camelback, in a little nook of a building with a book store/coffee shop attached. We entered and were seated immediately. If you read any of my previous reviews, you'll know that my wife loves oysters. Per usual, that where we started. We got the oyster and a bottle of prosecco. A few mimosas to start the day. My friend arrived almost exactly when the oysters and bottle came out. We chatted and perused the menu. We were in no rush as we drank through the first bottle. My wife got the pizza that was on the menu. I forgot what they called it, but it was good. Nice crust, a savory sauce, and just the right amount of cheese. My friend ordered avocado toast I believe or something very similar. She's a psycho path that runs 20 miles every morning so she was ready to take in carbs. She tore through it like a starving cheetah tears through a gazelle. I had an omelette which was pretty good, but nothing that knock me out of my seat. It could have used a bit of seasoning but in all decent. We ordered a second bottle and that is when their DJ began playing music. He played soft jazz which definitely was not the vibe we were looking for. None of the aforementioned mention brought this rating down to a three star review. It was all 4 star worthy accept the service was not great. Far from it actually. Don't worry I still tipped 20% as I feel it's a bare minimum, but he didn't deserve it. As I stated we were seated immediately, but it took our server nearly 15 minutes to even acknowledge us. I didn't know who it would be, but when he finally did all I could think is that he passed our table numerous times prior to stopping. Once he did there was a serious "I do not want to be here" vibe in his body language and tone. My friend who didn't arrive till the oysters and bottle were served missed that initial interaction but immediately noticed it. She an A type and wanted to complain to the manager. I got her to let it go. I know every has there days and this might have been his. Through out our stay here, he rarely checked in on us. As a matter of fact I believe we drank through each bottle before he checked in. This is the sole reason my rating went from a 4 to a 3. I hope the guy was ok, but I wish it could have been something he didn't bring to work with him. No pictures again. Sorry... There is plenty of seating, mostly indoors, but they also offer tables outdoors on the patio. I sat outside. I came during the week. Only a couple other parties dining. It's an interesting restaurant - so many dishes on the menu are inspired by different cuisines. I was a bit confused when I first saw the menu and didn't know what to order. I decided to go with the fish katsu sandwich, which was really good. The fish was crispy but not oily. The sauce and veggies balanced the sandwich well. The appetizers were good too. I had the cabbage, white sweet potatoes, and eggplant - everything was delicious. Seems like they like to bake/grill the food and then add sauces, which is a smart move because you can feel the texture of different ingredients coming together. The service was also good. Ive had breakfast here at least half a dozen times and every time it's been delicious. Today I was with friends and I had a glass of the fresh squeezed OJ (which was amazing, like candy almost) and the Banana Foster pancake. My friends had the Lox sandwich and Classic Cheeseburger. All three blew us away. The server(Rachel) was friendly and fast, even though she misspoke about the Lox being made in house it was still fantastic. Came in at the very last minute for happy hour and decided to fully trust the bartender best decision of the day. I asked them to pick my food so I could still catch the deal, and wow... they understood the assignment. The lemonade was refreshing and perfectly balanced (always my go-to), and the wings were so good! I just love a saucy, tangy wing and finished with sesame seeds that took them to another level. One of the standout dishes was the bread & spread plate, which was such a pleasant surprise. It came with edamame guacamole, chickpea hummus with olive tapenade, and a white bean relish topped with arugula pistachio pesto (I think I got that right). The flapjack was everything I want in a classic pancake.. definitely better than my homemade ones and absolutely worth ordering out.
