Fantastic Wood-Fired Pizza, though the patio is a bit loud. We dropped into Federal Pizza in Phoenix without a reservation with my in-laws and we all had a great time. Even though it was busy, they were able to seat us outside on the patio right away. If I make it back, I'll make reservations so I can enjoy the ambience inside the building. The food was definitely the star of the show. We tried the Federal Chop, which was fresh and delicious, but the pizza was the real standout. We went for the "Double Down" deal--the half-pizza and half-salad combo is a great way to try both. The pizza crust was amazing (perfectly chewy and charred) and the pepperoni was cooked to that ideal crispy-edged perfection. My only minor gripes were that the service was a slightly on the slow side and the traffic noise from Central Ave can be quite loud. If you're looking for a quiet conversation, try to snag a spot inside, but for the food alone, it's absolutely worth a visit! This used to be our favorite pizza spot but as of the last 3 visits (we really gave them chances) I don't think we will be back. The service from the waiters has not been the best.. on our last visit we stopped in for lunch I ordered a half pizza/salad and hubby ordered a pan pizza. Now I know they can take a while but why was my food delivered 30 minutes before his (might even be underestimating) people who came in after us ordered, got their food and left all before we got his pizza. The server seemed as if she didn't want to help us. I ordered a sprite and it was FLAT, I asked if I could switch it for a coke because it was flat. She picks it off the table and doesn't say a word. Dirty, rags on bar forever? Had to aske last 3 visits to wipe the bar top down because they were obviously not wiped down from the last customer. Did they change management ( there is obviously no team leader of manager anymore ). This place used to be so tight in terms of service and cleanliness but something definitely changed in like the last year? It's getting grundgy and not in a good way. Ugh People ( the newer faces ) seem disengaged and easily flustered. Hope they get it together.... Just doesn't feel like a special cool place anymore. I brought my girlfriend here last night for her birthday and it was one of the poorest excuses for service I've experienced in a long time and worst of all she's been in and out of the bathroom all day as a result from eating here. While we were waiting for our food we watched as one of the people behind the line stretched pizza dough around their entire forearm, which is incredibly unhygienic. Furthermore, we had to switch our sodas from Dr. Pepper to Coke because the Dr. Pepper from the tap tasted unclean and flat. We also ordered two orders of the crispy mozzarella appetizer and they were luke warm bordering on cold. We would have sent it back, but one of the many servers we had treated us like we were inconveniencing him any time we needed a sauce, a refill of a drink, or had any questions. There was no structure to the dining experience and we had to go out of our way to get anyone's attention. For our entrees we ordered the meatball pizza with added sausage and pepperoni and the other couple we were with ordered the pepperoni pizza and wings. The pizzas were extremely lackluster for what should be the highlight of this restaurant and worst of all I think it's what made my girlfriend sick. We would have been better off getting dominos or papa john's at this rate considering the terrible quality for the price we paid here. Always wanted to check this place out, so we went on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy, but we were sat immediately. Everyone, from the bartenders, to the servers, and the manager were friendly, acknowledged us as we walked in. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and the vibe was laid back. We ordered a pitcher of beer ($6 before 5pm- great deal) cheesy bread and a half/half pizza, Casanova and Big Star. Big Star is like a supreme: lots of veggies mushrooms, peppers, onions, Italian sausage and pepperonis, savory. The Casanova is the fancy choice: prosciutto, ricotta, fig, arugula and balsamic drizzle, on the sweeter side. Both were yummy. Thinner crust, wood fired, so the char is fire! Loved this restaurant! We had a party of 9 and were seated as a walk-in. They have specials that you can enjoy (the double down) & (pie pour), seating on the outside, a nice bar, clean bathroom (women) and the ambiance was on point. Since we did have a large group, the chair seating was kind of tight but the benches had no issues. Our waiter was pleasant, food was delivered on time and my wings were saucy, not dried out and fried to perfection. There is ample parking especially with another restaurant near and on a weekend. If you don't want to park, you also have the option of a drive thru. Inside temp was comfortable even with the back door open leading to the patio. This is a great place to have lunch or a family gathering. There were some families with strollers and they had no issues with space on the patio which is covered. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be back when in the area. read more

We got a mushroom pizza and it was ready on time. Let me tell you, this was the best pizza we've had in a long time. I had a cheese pizza from the newer Federal on Tatum Blvd. It was tasteless, severely undercooked, almost no sauce, and weak on the cheese. I've had much better cheap frozen pizza. After suffering through 2 slices, I added garlic, oregano, basil and black olives and heated it more until at least a little crispy and then it had some flavor. We shared a Margherita pizza, the Casanova pizza, and a classic pepperoni--each one perfectly cooked with great flavor and balance. The pasta Bolognese was hearty and satisfying, and the salad was fresh and well dressed, rounding everything out nicely. The atmosphere really stood out. The lighting is low and moody--more on the masculine side for a pizza spot--but it works beautifully with the hip, neighborhood it's in. My girlfriend and I come here 2-3 times a month and love it! The service is always top notch. All of the staff are super nice and welcoming. Always. My favorite is when we can bring our dog and sit on the patio - but right now it's just too hot in Phoenix so we sat inside. The beer was great! We got the chicken tenders as an appetizer super good. You have to try their honey hot sauce. The Cesar salad was great. The crispy potato fingerlings are a yummy side to try.
