My girlfriend and I had a great night last night at Valentine. We were seated right away for our reservation, and service throughout the night was overall excellent. Their sommelier waited on us and she was helpful, kind and funny. The only slight problem I had with the service was it took a bit longer than I would have preferred to be greeted by our waitress when we first sat down. We each had one cocktail, which were both unique and tasty. I would recommend the Fresca Negroni for fans of watermelon. We also had a bottle of white wine which was delicious and not too expensive. As far as food goes, the pretzel was a home run to start the meal. Warm, buttery, salty and sweet with the honeycomb. For entrees we split the pork ribs and elote pasta, both of which were delicious. Only complaints for them was the crunchy corn "nuts" on top of each dish, I did not mind it but my girlfriend didn't enjoy it and overall I don't think it added much. The dishes themselves were both delicious though. After our meal we split a latte which was delicious too. Salty and sweet. My favorite is coming here for brunch, a lovely slow morning with a handmade latte, a bottle of champagne for mimosas, a churro waffle, and a breakfast burger with delicious tater tots. (Or steak and eggs if I'm feeling fancy). However, I've also enjoyed coming here for dinner! The spot is chill and vibe. Was influenced by a video on the internet to try the elote pasta at Valentine and it did not disappoint. My partner and I don't usually go out to places like this because we can't afford it, but this was worth saving up for and sharing the experience together. It's a shame that while sitting there all I could think was "You and I are this restaurant's target demographic, yet we don't live the lifestyle that is needed to frequent such a place.". Even still, it was dreamy to cosplay upper-middle class folks and eat such thoughtful and delicious food. We shared 3 plates and savored every bite. At one point I teared up. Our waiter (and seemingly the other waiters too) was a mirror reflection of our local dive bartender and his chill demeanor made him both approachable and weirdly intimidating in a fun way. The space was very cute and cozy. The one star missing is for the first hostess who "welcomed" us in. She asked if we had a reservation (the place was basically empty all for 4-5 groups of people scattered around) and we said no. She said, "Well, the bar is wide open- actually never mind. Are you guys okay with outside seating?". We reluctantly agreed and after sitting on the patio for all of 3 minutes I said, "I didn't drive all the way out here and save my tip money for the week to not sit inside to enjoy my meal.". Seriously, if the patio was cute, maybe, but it was quiet and not as stimulating as the inside ambience. I got up and asked a new hostess, Adrian, if there was a long wait if we didn't have a reservation, and she said she could seat us immediately. My partner and I were both confused and decided whether or not this place would even be worth it to stay after being told originally that we couldn't sit inside without a reservation. I'm really glad we ended up staying or else we would have missed out on the fantastic food. I came here while visiting a friend in Phoenix and was really impressed by the uniqueness of the menu. They had beverages I've never seen that incorporated local Southwestern cultures and I wish I could've tried them all but chose the mesquite chai. For food, I had the Valentine dog and shared the tater tots with my friend. The tater tots were good but the hot dog really stood out with a special combination of flavors with the roe. I went here for a celebratory dinner with my team for the launch of our magazine. I've never been before, but some of my teammates have been to the bar and/or for breakfast/lunch so I took their suggestion. I walked in and I fell in love with the ambiance and low lighting, but as soon as me and the first half of my party that arrived early and were seated, our server gave me very strange vibes. This might sound stupid but when they asked us if we are celebrating anything, I excitedly told her the occasion, and the entire time they were giving me this straight faced, thousand yard stare. I don't judge a person off their facial expressions off the bat (I have RBF too lol), so although slightly unsettled, I brushed it off. Here comes the main reason why I gave this place a low rating. It was mainly a lot of miscommunication by both us and the server regarding the cake we brought in from a different establishment. This cake was custom made from a local AZ family bakery, and the design on the top had a design on it that cost me extra money as it is our organization's newest logo. Only me and one of my teammates knew what the cake looked like, and its design was gonna be a surprise for the rest of our team after dinner. As soon as the other half of my party arrived a few minutes later, they brought the cake with them, and the server came back around and offered to put it in their back fridge/freezer. They did not clarify that there would be a $20 charge once "the cake hits the table" until almost to the end of our meal. While I kind of understand there being some sort of charge for outside food, I was mostly annoyed that the server did not clarify this earlier. Also when I made the reservation online on Resy, I mentioned that we were bringing a cake. Nevermind that I also thought the price was pretty high just to cut a cake? So my team and I debated on whether on just leaving with the cake to avoid the fee, but decided to take the L and pay up in order to have the convenience. The manager walked past us right after we told the server to *bring out the WHOLE cake*, who overheard our confusion about the price and said "they'll bring it out with a candle". That was nice to hear...until I saw the server bring it out already cut into separate plates. Also there were no candles like the manager had said just minutes earlier. I really tried to be reasonable and empathetic but I still cannot comprehend how the server didn't follow our instructions, as we even said we'd like to take a picture of it. We ate our slices and ask to see the rest of the uncut cake to show the team of what the rest of it looked like. The cherry on top was the fact that we were "accidentally" charged twice for the cake cutting service ($40), so we had to request it to be fixed (later the manager found us again in the parking lot right after we left the restaurant to ask us how our service was, and she clarified that the charge was $20 because there was some sort of professional chef. Which like, okay fine I guess. My frustration was unfortunately just compounded upon from the moment I got the the establishment, despite me trying to be reasonable. The manager was pleasant but it's mostly the server and their service that made it a very weird night for me and my team. We will not be returning at all. read more

Cons: the wines by the glass are disgusting. I tried 2 and they were both foul (major wine people here). The pours were a joke (even with the crap wine worth $1 max the pours were maybe 4 oz at best). I had a limoncello for dessert and it was an ounce for $10 and completely watered down. My husband had an espresso martini (smallest we've ever seen and the most pricey and we live in north Scottsdale). Final thoughts: pricing is way off. 6 grilled oysters (the size of a pea and no clue where they were from) $32. Outrageous. Swill wine $11 for a few ounces. Outrageous. The chicken and trout were priced well for the quantity and quality and both entrees were delicious. Bottom line: we would come back but hope they will read this and not be so stingy with cheap alcohol and crap pours. We spend the same amount at Mastro's (over $300 per meal) but the wine is good and pours are generous. I'm still confused by these prices in mid-town Phx. read more

I love this place! I frequent here for breakfast during my workday. I get the corn cappuccino iced which I love the flavor and how unique it is. Along with this the pastries, they're honestly to die for. The pine nut croissant tends to be my favorite but the churro cream croissant is also delicious as well as the corn cookie and another hibiscus sugared pastry as well. I feel like you can't go wrong. Menu wise for lunch I always get the salad, my friend and I split one add on of steak, split is the perfect amount for lunch for me. For breakfast/lunch you order at the counter and dinner you are seated with servers. It can get slightly loud inside and there are patio tables outside as well. In the back is tucked away a little retro furniture store. Overall, I love this place a lot. I always want to try new things but love the things I stick to so much! Definitely worth a try! The elote pasta was recommended to me and if I can recommend anything let it be that. The steak came with like a mild salsa verde and some peppers, refried beans and 2 small flour tortillas. So yum. What a throwback! We went here to celebrate a birthday for brunch and walking up I realized this is where we used to do our dry cleaning when I was a kid. It's amazing what they have done with the place. The interior is gorgeous (I want my house to look like this) and the food was so incredibly unique and fun! The service was great too. The coffee drinks and pineapple empanada were delicious and I highly recommend the hot dog. I didn't order it but tried it and wow! When I took a look at the menu here I knew I instantly had to try this spot out, and on Valentine's day, there could be no better named place to go to for breakfast. It wasn't too busy when we came here around 9 but it did get busy as we left. The menu has a lot of delicious sounding options as well as delectable looking pastries at the counter so it was hard to pick just one thing to get so naturally I got a breakfast entree and a pastry to share. I opted for the tamale bowl and shared a passion fruit danish with lime zest. I also was intrigued by their beverage menu so I tried out a cajeta latte. The cajeta latte was lovely to behold and had very smooth coffee with the milk and caramelized goat's milk. It seems like the caramel is placed on the bottom first then the coffee with no additional mixing before it is topped off with the frothed milk because most of the caramel flavor was in the last few sips of coffee so it was quite the sugar rush! The tamale bowl was amazing. I loved the combination of ingredients and the different flavors. I especially enjoyed the carrot mole sauce. It's a vegetarian bowl and you don't miss the meat at all. The pastry was tasty and tart as passion fruit naturally is quite acidic. The passion fruit center was super runny which made it a little hard to eat but the pastry itself was flaky and rich and I used the pastry edges to dip into the passion fruit puddles that formed from the runny center dripping onto the plate. We arrived a little early for our reservation so they took us to have a drink at the back bar. The back bar is where cocktail magic truly happens and you can only have back bar drinks at the back bar (FYI). And, the restaurant cocktail menu is different. We did most of our meal as tapas and it was delicious. The mushrooms and elote pasta were fabulous. The cauliflower was a little sweet for my taste. The server promised us that the pretzel would be one of the best we've ever had and they were right. It was fabulous. The real standout was the chocolate cake with frozen sunflower seed mousse. What?! That was crazy good and the whole table was eating mine! (Definitely large enough to share.) Service was great initially but definitely slowed to a crawl towards the end. We stumbled along Valentine and decided to check it out. You order food and drinks with the cashier at the bar/coffee area. They'll give you a table number and you can choose where you want to sit. There's a lot of seating inside and outside. We both ordered the breakfast sandwich which had sausage, egg, and cheese inside. It was pretty tasty, but expensive for something I could have made at home. It was also small and didn't come with any sides. Don't expect a big portion but it held me over for a few hours. To drink, I got the matcha melon and my friend got the squash latte. The matcha melon was super refreshing and perfect for that warm Arizona weather. And we love its dedication to native and local ingredients. It was our personal experience that the menu's a little all over the place, though. There were some 10's (the Chamomile Old Fashion and the Little Gem Salad) but other things that missed the mark (avoid the Avocado toast and Sandía Negroni). The bartender made us a custom mezcal drink that was called a "Naked and Famous" that was bomb too. We'll definitely be back to drink some more and try other things on the menu. read more

Had an amazing experience at Valentine! This was super unexpected, but everything I could have hoped for in a restaurant that offered brunch dishes! The food was amazing! I think one of the best avocado toast dishes I've had in life (seriously)! The steak and eggs were amazing as well! The staff was also great!
