French onion soup & steak frites
    Rong R.

This place is not like the elevated French fine dining places in Phoenix, which are quiet and fancy. This restaurant literally makes you feel like you are in a neighborhood restaurant in France - the space is loud (in a good way), small but intimate. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were all super friendly. The food was good as well! The dishes were simple but well executed. I specifically loved their French onion soup - it was cheesy on top, but the soup was broth-based, thin and flavorful. Also, I don't really like chocolate that much, but I LOVED that chocolate fondue! It was rich, nutty and not too sweet, which went perfectly with strawberries. Highly recommend!!

Wow! I'm always on the lookout for the best croissant. Once we heard there was a new brasserie not too far away, couldn't resist checking it out and Brasserie Melrose did not disappoint in the least! Super cute spot on the corner of 7th Ave. Great ambience, get your pastries and order your coffee downstairs and then head upstairs where we sat outside in the sun on the patio. It really couldn't have been a better vibe. I can imagine having lunch of dinner up here would be perfection. Chocolate croissant, butter croissant, cappuccino, and a Parisian latte. All of it was exceptional. My other favorite pastries in the Valley are Essence and Chaccone, and this is right there. Truly. The latte was one of the best I've had in a long time and I will be back for another soon. The service was friendly, prompt to order, and someone checked in on us while we sat outside. Definitely will be back for morning coffee and croissants and dinner or lunch soon. Happy to see this place here and hoping the best for them. Highly recommended! Note: parking is tricky and only a couple spots in back so walk over if you're close by or park off 7th on a side street.

The initial impression of Brasserie Melrose had me excited. The pastry and croissants downstairs looked promising. The chocolate croissant was alright, I've had much better ones near the area. The smoked salmon and ham & gruyere was decent. Unfortunately the good ended there. All wait staff in the dining area seemed like they were new and didn't know their roles. Just to place our order, it took way too long for our waitress to understand and use the handheld device. On to the food. The French onion soup was ok at best. Seasoning was non existent, having to add salt just to make it bearable. Escargot was not bad, a little bit on the saltier side, opposite of the soup. Jambon Beurre, just think of a homemade sandwich with ham and cheese, it reminded me of school cafeteria food. Moules Frites was just ok; I've had better mussels in white wine sauce at pretty much any other places I've been to. Overall, we all left disappointed.

Fantastic pastries! We walked in on a Saturday morning and the place smelled heavenly. I love the black and white decor. The person that took our order was efficient and we ended up getting a pain au chocolat, a cheese and bacon tartine, a spinach artichoke tartine and a canele. The pastry itself was crisp, buttery perfection! Beautifully laminated and the fillings were sublime. I appreciate the slight bitterness in chocolate filling for the pain au chocolat. I see that they have French hot chocolat on the menu and I look forward to trying it next along with something off their lunch menu.

Phoenix just welcomed its newest European brasserie. This is a true European-style brasserie--where freshly baked pastries meet thoughtfully crafted lunch and dinner offerings, all made in house. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by the sounds of clinking glasses, soft music in the background, and the hum of laughter filling the room. Every dish and pastry brings its own aroma, texture, and depth of flavor, paired perfectly with expertly made coffee and drinks. The quality is undeniable, the atmosphere is inviting, and the experience feels effortlessly elevated. Whether you're stopping in for coffee and a croissant or settling in for a full meal, this is one of those places you'll want to return to again and again. Cool, new spot with a somewhat funky location. We stopped in at breakfast. Pastries and coffee were on the menu for us. Service was friendly. Ambiance is very modern and has a nice French flair to it. Savory, plain, and sweet croissants. Ours were delicious. Coffee was top notch as well. All around great experience. N*joy!

Live in the hood and decided to try on a whim. All food items we had were great. Escargot didn't have much flavor but I wouldn't know how to fairly rate it since I don't commonly eat it. Cocktails, oysters, mussels, shrimp, frites, and baguette with butters were all amazing. Atmosphere was chic and beautiful. Can't wait to try the breakfast items and coffee. I would recommend having louder music as it seemed a bit quiet. And for the one tiny table upstairs we had, recommend creating more space somehow or not seating for a full dinner as there was not enough space for our food and drinks. All other tables seemed sufficient tho.

Amazing cafe! I love the chic and cozy atmosphere. Based on their butter croissants, the technique, quality ingredients and flavor is spot on! Will look forward to trying more items!

Very friendly staff, excellent service. Great coffee and pastries. Now serving dinner, will have to come back and try it.

French transplant here, born and raised in France! I'm a tough critic on all American places that call themselves French or European because there are so many with poor execution... and I've gotta say, I'm so happy that Brasserie Melrose opened close to me. I love seeing all the authentic French dishes on the menu, made with actual French products. They have a large collection of wine and cocktails, and it warmed my heart seeing Kronenbourg 1664 beer on tap. The warm goat cheese salad is made with authentic Crottin de Champcol from the Loire Valley, and it's heavenly. The French onion soup takes them 20 hours to prepare, for a reason. Croissants made with Isigny Sainte-Mère butter, pains au chocolat with Valrhona chocolate... on those days when my soul craves the warmth of my home country's food, it's comforting to know there is a little taste of it nearby, no passport needed, no jet lag involved! They have live jazz on occasion, which is nice. Excellent service, too. The parking at the back is a bit limited, but there is street parking nearby if needed. This may not matter to everyone, but because I like supporting places representing groups that are having their voices increasingly silenced these days - it's LGBTQ+ owned! Bon appétit!

I've been wanting to stop by since they opened. Of course... parking is very limited unless you park in the community light rail, parking area right behind the restaurant, which I would recommend. We came in and looked at all the pastries behind the counter and ordered Apple Dulce Pecan tart $7.50, Chocolate Croissant $7.50. Canele $3.95, Bacon/Cheese tart $8.50. There wasn't anyone else at the counter except for us. You would think we would've been greeted or acknowledged since there were 2 employees behind the counter, but we weren't. We asked the cashier a couple questions about the pastries and decided to just take it to go. The 4 stars is for the quality of the pastries we had. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back. We love to support mom & pop places but like to feel that they actually want us there.

I had a delicious latte, and sampled the pain a chocolat, and this incredible cheesy Parmesan potato thing before taking it home to share. (I should remember what things are called before leaving reviews lol). The coffee and pastries were both very high quality and delicious. Perfect texture and balance of flavors. The staff were very sweet, it's really neat to go on the second day after they open and overhear them establish their friendships and working relationship and work through drinks and processes. The interior is absolutely gorgeously decorated. I'm in love with the black couch and zebra chair. I really felt like an underdressed American in France in my Claude the alligator t-shirt. I can't wait until they open up their dinner service so I can go back. Maybe I'll have a designated driver and will get to try the cocktails, they all look interesting. I didn't get pictures of the downstairs area because there were people there and I didn't want to make it weird but it's beautiful, there's even upstairs and downstairs patio seating.

Arrived for lunch on Sunday and was greeted by just an amazing opening of the kitchen fresh made pastries the smell of coffee and warm friendly faces. We were told it was about a 45 minute wait and decided that was fine as no one was starving. Talking with any employee asking their favorites and watching waiters walk by with delicious looking food we were definitely excited to sit and partake. The bar is open seating and a few couples left getting us the ability to sit much faster than originally anticipated, and ordered some coffee and water. We then got the charcuterie board to share and then ordered after getting to know the bartenders a little better. Here's what I will say as a possible reason for everyone else's high marks for reviews is that we didn't order any pastries, however when it came to the food when we ordered French Onion soup, the Steak and fries and the Mussels nothing was exceptional or mind blowing and it was all good. Being the old BELLY restaurant location which is extremely unique. I think the beauty of the space definitely helps which is great I wish them well and I'm sure my wife will be back for some coffee and pastries but as far as what we felt we got for lunch today it was okay.

The second one tasted "clean" or like it was supposed to taste. The Burger & Fish Tacos were full of flavor & freshness! I loved their fries b/c crispy on outside & soft on the outside. Missing their Guac & Chips Starter that was on former menu tho. We gotta commend the F&B Manager here! He overheard us talking to the waiter about the differences in the Charred Beet Salads & told us why: one was on the grill too long & he only knew that b/c he was in the kitchen watching them make it. He appreciated us sharing about the nuanced difference in how salads tasted & comped one. Wow - this is really going above & beyond: caring enough to have a convo w/ diners, acknowledging their palates detecting the difference AND making it right, b/c as he said "both should taste the same, like the second one." A commitment to excellence and consistency is a rarity. Overall, Lylo Swim Club outdoor bar/restaurant is a little oasis tucked away amongst so much greenery and beauty! Yes they have the pool nearby, but we didn't take a dip. Something to look forward to! P.S. Can the tile pattern on the bar be any more gorgeous?!

You would think being outside they would have someone buss since there were bugs swarming everywhere. The Dole Whip drinks you would assume the alcohol would be mixed in but just poured on top. Service was honestly extremely disappointing usually I can give them some grace but this was just... wow! Then I go to pay and there were several items on my bill that were never ordered. Mind you never got silverware or napkins so we were using the towels. 25 minutes for a can of beer mind you. Place could have potential but would need several more servers and maybe individuals that are equipped to even do the job in the first place. $300 for actually a slap in the face and no sunburn because are seats were in the shade with dirty dishes damn near on top of us. Gross, waste of money, and just disturbing. Could not pay me to come back. In addition the pool looked so alarmed I was surprised individuals were even in it, I barely let my feet in. Update : I tried to contact the hotel yesterday to get in touch with the manager, was given 3 emails all wrong. The emails never got delivered. Call the Lylo Swim Club this morning and spoke with Paul Epstein.... oh my actual god good luck. So extremely rude not helpful at all no wonder on his LinkedIn he switches jobs every few months. Some things he told me on the phone.... 1. That the dishwasher/busser was going around every 20 minutes and grabbing dishes... Wrong I saw him once 2. Explained to him that the drinks tasted like they were poisoned. He said what do you expect when you order alcohol. 3. he asked why I didn't grab a server. There were two and I saw them maybe three times only when they were delivering wrong food. He then told me that they were overstaffed yesterday pathetic. On top of that he said everyone was going there to get the dole whip drinks because of TikTok. I'm glad other people could enjoy them, but you would think since he works in the restaurant industry he would have grace for others when its impossible to please everyone. That I understand but with all of these things that went wrong a discount should have been applied. I've never experienced someone so rude and uptight. I can't even imagine someone having a bachelorette party or a birthday there I would be embarrassed to have my friends or anyone I know being in contact with this place or Paul. good luck to him.

Right on Camelback, in a little nook of a building with a book store/coffee shop attached. We entered and were seated immediately. If you read any of my previous reviews, you'll know that my wife loves oysters. Per usual, that where we started. We got the oyster and a bottle of prosecco. A few mimosas to start the day. My friend arrived almost exactly when the oysters and bottle came out. We chatted and perused the menu. We were in no rush as we drank through the first bottle. My wife got the pizza that was on the menu. I forgot what they called it, but it was good. Nice crust, a savory sauce, and just the right amount of cheese. My friend ordered avocado toast I believe or something very similar. She's a psycho path that runs 20 miles every morning so she was ready to take in carbs. She tore through it like a starving cheetah tears through a gazelle. I had an omelette which was pretty good, but nothing that knock me out of my seat. It could have used a bit of seasoning but in all decent. We ordered a second bottle and that is when their DJ began playing music. He played soft jazz which definitely was not the vibe we were looking for. None of the aforementioned mention brought this rating down to a three star review. It was all 4 star worthy accept the service was not great. Far from it actually. Don't worry I still tipped 20% as I feel it's a bare minimum, but he didn't deserve it. As I stated we were seated immediately, but it took our server nearly 15 minutes to even acknowledge us. I didn't know who it would be, but when he finally did all I could think is that he passed our table numerous times prior to stopping. Once he did there was a serious "I do not want to be here" vibe in his body language and tone. My friend who didn't arrive till the oysters and bottle were served missed that initial interaction but immediately noticed it. She an A type and wanted to complain to the manager. I got her to let it go. I know every has there days and this might have been his. Through out our stay here, he rarely checked in on us. As a matter of fact I believe we drank through each bottle before he checked in. This is the sole reason my rating went from a 4 to a 3. I hope the guy was ok, but I wish it could have been something he didn't bring to work with him. No pictures again. Sorry... I really just like to enjoy the moments with the people I am with and forget to take pictures.

The soothing decor and soft lighting created a cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a delightful meal, especially on an unseasonably hot day. We began our culinary journey with the Larb Mushroom appetizer, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The dish featured succulent oyster mushrooms tossed with roasted rice powder, fresh mint, shallots, cilantro, and a vibrant chili-lime dressing. Each bite was a refreshing explosion of flavors, combining the earthy richness of the mushrooms with the zesty brightness of the dressing. It was light, refreshing, and a perfect precursor to the meal ahead. For her main dish, my wife chose the Pad Z U, an outstanding selection that showcased sautéed broad noodles, crispy fried tofu, and Chinese broccoli, all enveloped in a delectable sweet soy sauce. The noodles were soft and chewy, creating a delightful texture that harmonized beautifully with the vegetable medley and tofu. The heat in the dish was skillfully balanced, providing just enough kick without overwhelming the palate. My wife couldn't stop raving about it! I opted for the Kua Kling, and it truly was a star of the evening. This spicy stir-fried minced chicken was enriched with fragrant curry paste, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves, resulting in an aromatic dish that was accompanied by tender long string beans and the unique Sadtor beans. The flavor profile was complex and enticing, with each ingredient complementing the others in a delightful dance of spice and freshness. It was a dish that not only warmed my belly but also left me craving more. What elevated our experience even further was the attentiveness of our server. With a genuine smile and a welcoming demeanor, they offered excellent recommendations and ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. Their knowledge of the menu added to our enjoyment, making the dining experience even more memorable. Overall, LeDu Thai is a culinary treasure that I cannot recommend highly enough. Each dish was exceptional, bursting with flavor and crafted with care. The combination of delicious food, attentive service, and a cozy ambiance makes it a must-visit for anyone seeking an unforgettable Thai dining experience. We can't wait to return and explore more of what their menu has to offer!

GOOD! inspired by taco bell's baja blast hahahah). they TREATED us to all three of their current desserts on the menu. it was the most pleasant surprise i could've imagined. my favorite was the flourless chocolate cake! it was like a thick, rich brownie, had passion fruit cream to "lighten it up" and a caramel-like taffy on the bottom my brother and sister-in-law both said their favorite was the gulab jamun (which is basically like little fried dough balls/donuts, influenced by indian flavors and spices). the mille-feuille was also fantastic - the pastry was light and airy, cream wasn't too sweet and also very light, shaved cheese on top made it have a savory bite, and the jam alongside it was strawberry rhubarb. service is always amazing, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable; it seems like everybody working here truly enjoys it. quite literally already have a reservation booked at valentine and will be coming back here beforehand. update: came back for more drinks (fernet & coke, spaghett western, negroni) and their lamb flauta. all AMAZING! and amazing order to whet the appetite before dinner at valentine.

Regardless, we gave it another shot and we were much happier the next go around. Record players in the corner and a fireplace on the opposite side of this dimly lit bar created a cozy vibe on a chilly Saturday night. We arrived right at opening and the bar filled up quickly but the volume still made it easy to have a conversation and still have an intimate night out. The drinks, this time, well balanced and delicious. My wife had the the Pantera Rosa and I had the Last Word. Both were delicious and not overly sweet. I love a good "Last Word" but the tea added a welcome and subtle layer. A nicely created cocktail without shaming the original. Servers were attentive, constantly filling up water, and making sure we were well taken care of. We will be back!

We arrived without a reservation and were told the wait would be about 25 minutes, which was totally reasonable. We waited the full time and checked in once, only to find the wait continuing to extend while several outdoor tables sat open. When we politely asked about our table, the host (a woman with glasses) responded with a noticeably rude and dismissive attitude. At one point, she muttered under her breath something along the lines of, "If you guys are so anxious... you can head over there," which multiple people in our group heard. It felt completely unnecessary and unprofessional. We were eventually seated at a table that was partially in direct sun, and when we asked about moving to one of the shaded tables, we were told they were unavailable and "reserved". However, those tables remained empty for over 30 minutes, which was frustrating given the situation. To be fair, there was another older woman on staff who was warm, attentive, and fantastic, and the food itself continues to be a highlight. The menu is creative, thoughtful, and one of the reasons we've come back multiple times. That said, this isn't the first time we've experienced service issues here, and it often feels like the restaurant is understaffed, which may be contributing to the inconsistency. I really want to love this place and continue recommending it, but experiences like this make it hard. Great food can only carry things so far when the hospitality side feels off. It's one thing to occasionally be understaffed (I understand people call off in this business) but there's a consistency here which points towards management issues and then on top of it, when your hostess is unnecessarily rude, that's a real bummer. We live in the Willo nearby and I don't think we're going to keep coming here if this restaurant allows the constant service issues and the rude staff like this.

Gem Salad: 5/5 Fresh, bright, and lightly dressed with a subtle mustard flavor. Elote Pasta: If you love Mexican street corn, this playful pasta dish is a fun take on it. Charcoal Cabbage: 10/5 Incredible. The flavors were so unique. It tasted kind of like black garlic. Absolutely unforgettable. Pesto Sundae Dessert: 5/5 So creative and innovative. Fun play on pesto. I've never had ice cream made with pine nuts before and loved it. The basil granita was incredibly refreshing. I first came across Don Woods' Say When reading a Yelp article listing out the best rooftops in…read moreeach state. Don Woods was Arizona's pick. For quite a few months, I had it on my list to visit. I finally made things happen on a Wednesday evening for a drink. Located on the roof (of course) of a boutique hotel, I find free parking in the hotel's parking lot. While it was a busy parking lot, I was able to find a spot. Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.
