Found this spot which was walking distance to my hotel. In this crazy heat, anything more than 10 minute walk is brutal. Stopped here for dinner on Labor Day at around 515 so it wasn't too busy but great ambiance. I love the decor it's very inviting! My waiter was so friendly and helpful. I originally came cuz I saw this lobster tagliatelle dish but I actually wasn't too hungry and was going to the Drunk Pirates show after so I didn't want to be weighed down. The catch of the day was a sea bass which sounded great and over a succotash with a pork gastrique with corn nut crunch. And OMG when I say this was prob the best succotash I've ever had. Super crunchy fresh corn, asparagus, snap peas and bell peppers. The sea bass was also cooked great, very crispy skin and glaze. I'm literally thinking about it now. I also ended up getting the Lost in the Woods dessert which was a delicate chocolate mousse on shortbread with like a candied hazelnut and cookie dust. Every bite was heavenly. I wish I could've tried the other desserts too. I would literally come back to Phoenix just to eat here again. Wren & Wolf was only about a 5-minute walk from our hotel, so we decided to stop in for brunch and I'm so glad we did! Even the walk over was a win because we stumbled across the cutest little cuban coffee shop and had the best cortadito before continuing on. First, the vibe at Wren & Wolf is gorgeous. Such a cool, moody atmosphere, and I loved all the little details, including the faux wolf fur on the seats. Definitely a place that feels like an experience and not just somewhere to eat. Our server was amazing. I could have sworn her name was Dominique, but she was fantastic and gave us some great recommendations. What stood out even more was how everyone worked together. The young guy delivering our food was so friendly, another server grabbed our plates as she walked by, and every single person we interacted with was welcoming. You could really tell it was a team effort rather than everyone only worrying about their own tables. We tried several of the recommended brunch items and everything was delicious. I also asked for a cocktail similar to a margarita, and our server recommended the Shishito out of luck-loved it! Came here on a Thursday night for a friends birthday. We arrived a couple minutes after the rest of the party and there were no table settings for us, no menus or waters. We were never given silverware until we asked for it while ordering our entrees. The service was incredibly slow and our server had a weird attitude the entire time. The restaurant was beautifully decorated but so loud and there was no music playing. Our server took drink orders from everyone except me. Another guest asked her a question about the menu, she disappeared for over 10 minutes came back and took my order for a drink. My friend asked about mocktails and she just said you can make any drink a mocktail. The espresso martini was delicious. However our waters never got refilled and the server did not ask anyone if they wanted another cocktail. The best part of the evening was the avocado Caesar salad. It was fresh and I liked the crunchy bread pieces. The shrimp was horrible!!! I should've said something in the moment but I didn't want to be that person at another persons birthday. They were SO tough, I had to saw through it with my knife. They were incredibly tough and rubbery. The sauce it came with was straight garlic. The beef Wellington was lackluster. Had a client lunch at Wren & Wolf in downtown Phoenix, and what a fantastic lodge-inspired, highly decorated venue. The taxidermy, rich materials, and striking design give it an incredible, moody atmosphere that stands completely apart from the standard downtown lunch spot.  The staff was professional, attentive, and kept everything running smoothly. Located in downtown next to the Renaissance Hotel, Wren & Wolf is an absolute gem in the Phoenix food scene. The interior design is unmatched and looks like the interior of a decadent cabin. As it is located in downtown, parking is abysmal, but there is cheap/paid curbside parking all around if you can find a close spot. The food made in their scratch kitchen speaks for itself. The first time I visted we sat at the bar and were cared for by Dominique. We absolutely love her!!! I wanted a sweet, fruity cocktail for which she recommended the raspberry baray (raspberry infused vodka, bianco vermouth, crème de flora, passionfruit cava, pineapple, lemon, tonka bean). We also got an order of the truffled manchego fries with lemon aioli to share. It was so crispy and flavorful! Last but not least, I ordered the 16oz Ribeye served with whipped parmesan potatoes, roasted baby carrots. WOW! The steak's texture and flavor was out of this world. Dominique told us it's dry-aged!! Truly artisan crafts happening in the scratch kitchen. We went to Wren & Wolf after our Carry On experience. Our "flight" was at 3:30 p.m., so it worked out perfectly to have dinner at Wren & Wolf afterward. It was Sunday and before 5 p.m., so the place was pretty empty. The restaurant is huge and decorated with wolf statues and paintings. They also have a lounge area, bar area, regular tables, and plenty of booths. There were a few other groups there who had also come from the 3:30 Carry On flight. Even though it wasn't busy, they seated us right next to another group. It felt a bit cramped, and since the tables were so close together, we could hear their entire conversation, and I'm sure they could hear ours too. Since we had already been snacking during Carry On, we weren't very hungry. We ordered a couple of appetizers, the Brussels sprouts and truffle fries, and then we also ordered the spaghetti, duck breast, halibut, and chicken for our mains. The food was decent, but everything leaned a little salty. If you park at the Renaissance Square Parking Garage, they'll validate your parking for up to three hours. This is a pretty cool place. The ambience is nice and the decor is quite interesting, but definitely fits the theme of the restaurant. Our server was wonderful! We enjoyed talking to him about his travels and life plans. I ordered a drink that I didn't like very much, so he brought me another another one of his choice, which was much better. The food has a Mediterranean flair and was definitely flavorful, but there were a few dishes that were too salty. We tried the zaa'tar man'ouche and the concept was great, but there wasn't enough cheese inside and too much spice/salt on top. The grilled oysters were excellent and had a tasty smoked tomato flavor. For entrees, the lobster tagliatelle had such a delicious smoky flavored sauce, but unfortunately it was way too salty and the lobster was overcooked. We let the manager know about that one and he tasted the sauce and agreed. The herb crusted halibut was very good, with yummy snap peas and beets. We decided to try the black walnut affagato for dessert. It was a bit disappointing because it comes with vanilla ice cream and a black walnut bitter, which is super strong if you taste it alone, but mixed with the ice cream and espresso loses its walnutty flavor. We overpaid for that one. The food is quite overpriced, but if done right I think it's worth it. Just expect that you'll be paying a lot for this dinner. We had a chance to check out the trophy room after dinner; our server was nice enough to make a reservation, likely because it was not too busy that night. They make you lock your phone in a locker. The room is quite small but has unique decor that fits the theme of the restaurant. The bartender did not smile or make eye contact the whole time, but was very knowledgeable about the drinks and different liquers they use. The drink menu is also very unique and has some interesting drink options. I had one with balsamic, strawberry, and marscapone which was different than any drink I've tried before. I had pretty high expectations given the reviews of this place. We came here the other night to celebrate our anniversary. We were seated immediately at our reservation time at 5:30 pm. Park in the Renaissance Two garage and you can have the hostess validate it for a few hours. The ambiance is lovely -- very moody, intimate and dimly lit which would be perfect for a date night. To start, our server brought out champagne once she knew we were celebrating our anniversary. This was a nice beginning to our evening! We ordered the Noble bread with truffle butter to start -- the bread was grilled quite a bit which I enjoyed but my partner did not. We also ordered the Crudo -- the sauce was delicate and had great, novel flavors however I was very disappointed in the serving size. For our entree, we shared the beef Wellington -- this is a special treat with the chef coming out to present it to us. It came with an order of mashed potatoes, duck confit and we also ordered the asparagus. Our daughter had a filet which came either mashed potatoes and carrots. The beef Wellington was tasty and cooked perfectly. The filet is covered in chimichurri and wrapped in a puff pastry. Best practice is to reserve it in advance to guarantee it as your entree. It was very rich and very filling -- I'm glad I tried it but I wouldn't order it again. The mashed potatoes were delicious and super creamy but the star of the show for me was definitely the asparagus -- perfectly cooked with the rich béarnaise sauce. Our service was not as great as I would have liked unfortunately. I noticed she was serving a larger party as well but I felt like given the price point for this restaurant, it was not acceptable. I always love coming to Wren & Wolf. I decor is kind of cool with taxidermy wildlife and large paintings of animals throughout the dining room. There is a little lounge seating area with sofas and a huge painting of an outdoor scene. It's kind of cool. I also love the lighting which feels like little balls floating over the tables. Our server was fantastic - very attentive and friendly and cute as a bug's ear. We started by ordering drinks. Hubby just ordered a beer, and I got the Raspberry Baray. I've ordered a different cocktail from their menu every time I've come and this has been my favorite. It was delish! For starter we got the meatballs served on creamy polenta. They were fantastic and quite large. I love them! For entrees, hubby got the Atlantic salmon with fingerling potatoes and I got the center cut filet with mashed potatoes and baby carrots. Both were so yummy. My filet was cooked exactly the way I love it. For dessert, hubby had the lemon cake with Bavarian cream and I had the butter cake with strawberries and whipped cream. They were both heavenly! If you come, make sure that you have a reservation. We saw many people trying to drop in without a reservation. I first tried this restaurant on a date night, and loved their ambience as well as their bone marrow so much, that I planned a dinner with 6 other of my ladies for a girls night out soon after. It was perfect because we also ended up in trophy room at the end of the night, which is a speakeasy connected to Wren & Wolf. Their food: their bone marrow is one of the best I've ever had. I'd honestly come back for a good glass of wine, and bone marrow with a few other apps. The truth is, I'm not all that crazy about their entrees, especially for the price -- flavor could be better but I gave 5 stars because the restaurant really is one of the nicest I've tried in Phx/Scottsdale area. First off this place is super hard to find. It took us calling a restaurant a couple times to re-get a different address to redirect us to a parking garage that took us to the restaurant. Two days ago I came here with my husband and then yesterday I went again with my friend that lives in the area. I am visiting from out of town and this place was very close to our hotel so we decided to give it a shot and I gave it a shot two times because it was very good and I wanted to try some different things on the menu. The second time we went. It was a cool little cigar room, feel with a lot of taxidermy and when I say taxidermy, I say it in the most tasteful of ways. Service was good. I remember trying the wild boar bolognese my cousin ordered last time and it was good so I got it this time. However, after trying the braised oxtail pappardelle my friend ordered this time, I would say the braised oxtail pappardelle had better flavor! I've been to one of their other restaurants in Tempe and loved that as well. Still need to try their newest restaurant in DT Phx as well as a few of their other bars. Came in for the WMPO and saw this place across the street from the hotel. First off the vibe of this place is on point, but the downside being it is extremely dark and it's hard to see your food or even the menu. We started with the bone marrow with bread which was really good, but the bread cuts your gums and lips given the rustic nature. The beef carpaccio wasn't very good as the amount of grated Parmesan cheese they cover it with over powers anything else and just ruins it. The Za'atar bread is the star of the show. Flavorful, soft, and crispy all in one. I didn't feel like eating a big meal and opted for the avacado caesar with a NY strip. The dressing and flavor was superb, but the steak isn't the best I have ever had and was mediocre at best. Service was super friendly and prompt but overall this place is average. read more

We had a very nice dinner before a show downtown, and it was a very fun spot for a special night out. I want to note right out of the gate that I really waffled between four and five stars, because I felt the food and drink were five star, and our server was five star, but the hosts at the front and some elements of the ambience didn't rate as highly. We started by treating ourselves to some seasonal cocktails, which a bit higher-priced but were lovely. Mine was bourbon-based with gingerbread spices, and tasted very cozy. For our entrees, we got the Spaghetti al Pesto and the Duck Breast a la Orange. The spaghetti was divine! It was luscious, with a smooth sauce, heaps of rich feta, and touches of acid and herbs to cut through all the unctuousness. I would order this and devour it over and over again. It was a big serving, too! The plating is deceptively compact -- I started eating and realized very quickly how generous the portion was. The duck was also a winner! The plating on it was beautiful, and it had a spicy-sweet flavor that melded the citrus and harissa well. We stayed simple with dessert -- some bright, fresh fruit sorbets -- mainly because we were so wonderfully stuffed by the time we got there. Our server was great! When we alerted her that we needed to make a show, she made sure to keep our service moving without ever making us feel rushed. Also, we let her know of an allergy that one of us has, and she was amazing about not just flagging the allergen, but proactively telling us what was either already allergen-free or could easily be made that way. It was really helpful to be able to zone in on what worked, rather than just ruling things out. The elements that kept this from being a five star experience: - The staff at the host stand did not manage entering patrons well, resulting in a massive clump of people that were all being ignored by the three hosts who were all conferring about something else without so much as a "We'll be right with you" to the ever-increasing crowd. It was messy and made a poor first impression. - The restaurant was very dark and very loud. There's a fine line between "lively and buzzy" and "just loud", and unfortunately it landed on the latter for me. - The tables in the area in which we sat were so close together that diners were bumping against their own and/or their neighbors' tables anytime they had to get up. After being sat down, the host asked if we preferred bottled water, sparkling or still. We chose still and never received this during our meal. I can only assume this wasn't relayed to our server. For appetizers, we both were intrigued by the "Caviar Bump." This is brought out on a trolly, and the server scoops then places a quarter sized amount of caviar on opposite side of your ball of thumb. He instructs us the best way to enjoy this caviar is to gently press it against the roof of your mouth with your tongue. Both of us are in agreeance that compared to the other times we've had caviar; this was a bit fishy and tasted passed it prime. Onto mains, my partner opted in for the double smash burger which was great. Our server/kitchen was kind enough to upgrade her side to one of their special salads which was great. As for me, I opted in for their eggs benedict, upgrading to their king crab. I found this tasty, but I found the overall flavours overpowered the taste of the crab. Both dishes were beautifully presented, and our server was casual and was a pleasure. One of my friend had the espresso martini and the other a cocktail that had popping boba on top. It was a little too sweet for her drink. Entrees. I had some appetizers as my meal. I ordered the : King crab with oysters - it only came with 3 for $28. A little pricy for what I had. They were stuffed with a lot of cheese, I didn't taste any crab or oysters in it. I will start with what I believe went well. The service here was prompt, friendly, attentive , and had lots of recommendations for us as first timers. The place was beautiful inside and everyone comes dressed nicely so it's very classy. You can come here with friends and family but I don't think it's appropriate for small children. Hands down one of the best solo date nights I've had. The oxtail pappardelle with horseradish ricotta was absolutely unforgettable. Rich, deeply savory, and beautifully balanced, with just the right bite from the horseradish ricotta. It was so good I went home inspired to recreate it. I'm a self proclaimed chef with a wicked palate, and this dish truly impressed me. The bread with truffle butter was equally indulgent and set the tone immediately. The crab stuffed oysters served over hot coals were another standout. Warm, smoky, and incredibly flavorful, they added such a unique and memorable element to the meal and were beautifully executed. Service was wonderful from start to finish. My server was attentive, warm, and perfectly paced, which made dining alone feel intentional and relaxing rather than rushed or awkward. I also really appreciated the reasonably priced sparkling wine by the glass, and the $12 caviar bumps were such a fun, elevated touch that made the night feel special without being over the top. This is the perfect place for ANY meal while visiting Phoenix. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this restaurant is excellent and delivers on all levels. Gorgeous trendy decor, spacious booths and tables, and delicious menu. We absolutely love visiting Phoenix and Wren & Wolf is a huge incentive! Can't wait to come back! The food is absolutely fantastic. I can eat the strawberry arugula and ricotta salad every day and sometimes twice a day. The fish whether it's the halibut or salmon is incredible! The duck is amazing. The spaghetti pesto is great. The breakfast burrito is THE BEST we've ever had ever! Dessert is still just a maybe here. Celebrated a birthday at Wren & Wolf. Overall I would say it was an amazing experience. From the quality of the food, the ambiance being a dark and cozy feel, and the service being attentive and quick. We ordered oysters to start off and then cleansed our pallet with some caviar bumps. The entree I ordered was a steak and it was perfectly cooked. Be prepared to spend but for the special occasion I thought it was completely worth it. We didn't try the beef Wellington but the table next to us did, and it looks so good. I recommend Wren & Wolf for a date night or special occasion where you want an elevated and elegant experience. read more
