I understand that not every meal is going to be perfect ,however, the quality of food and customer service by the new management has declined significantly. I have probably spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant, as being a regular customer. Tonight a manager named Chris S. Was extremely condescending and patronizing. I would go back. The atmosphere is interesting, they have license plates hung up around the restaurant as well as taxidermy animals. It makes you want to order a beer. The server was a really nice lady. We ordered Mac and Cheese and she informed us that they put gravy in the Mac and cheese, which I found odd but ordered it anyway. After eating it, I wouldn't mind ordering it again. The chicken fried chicken was juicy. The mash potatoes are not mashed all the way, and had chunks of potatoes in it. This restaurant was smaller than expected but we loved the Texas license plate and memorabilia that covers the walls. Our server, Abby, was efficient, friendly, and had a sense of humor. We left the restaurant stuffed. From the warm biscuits to the nicely made salad (no wilted or brown pieces!) and the perfectly smoked prime rib, we enjoyed everything and finished our plates. I would have given a 5 but the silverware was a major frustration. The blunt tines on the forks made picking up the meat difficult and the dull knives just shredded the beef. Such a Phoenix staple! We love TexAZ Grill! If you sit at the bar, Missy is such a a rockstar, she'll take excellent care of you. In the dining room, be sure to have Cheryl wait on you! These ladies know hospitality. Of course, you MUST have chicken fried steak as your entree. And DO NOT say no to the homemade biscuits. I love them doused with butter and honey. So good! We usually start with the fried shrimp. It is perfectly fried, the breading is crunchy and not too heavy. The shrimp are jumbo sized and super fresh! The food was absolutely horrible. The mashed potatoes were so gummy and seems like they were on a steam table for a long time, corn and green beans had no flavor whatsoever do ever. And the supposed "best chicken fried steak" was almost inedible. So greasy that the breading didn't even stick to the meat. For as long as I've known my husband, he's liked chicken fried steak. (Chicken fried anything, frankly.) He even made it at home once and it was pretty ehhh mediocre despite the fact he's a really good cook. So the thought of finally driving out to try Texaz Grill didn't have me too excited. Fun fact: it was actually the night of our twenty fifth anniversary, but we had a fancy dinner scheduled for the weekend. Marriage is about compromise, so... This place was great! I ordered the chicken fried steak because you have to order their specialty. The meat was tender, (something I did not expect) the breading was crispy, hot and expertly fried. I loved that it didn't taste greasy or heavy. Loved the light spice of the gravy. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. Even the Little Tex with just one steak was ginormous- I had to take half home along with half of the mashed potatoes. They bring out a salad or slaw plus biscuits with your meal so you will be full. The restaurant has a nice roadhouse charm to it and the service is very friendly. Moral of the story: Step out of your comfort zone and try that place your spouse likes. We've wanted to try this restaurant for years. Unfortunately, it didn't meet our expectations. I had the burger, which was huge and pretty good. The salad, though, was just iceberg lettuce with a few bits of tomato and some green olives -- definitely not what I was hoping for. I also had the coleslaw, but it was drenched in some kind of mayo and didn't have much flavor. I usually love a good coleslaw, but this just wasn't it. My husband ordered the ribeye. It didn't look good at all, and he only ate a couple of bites because he was really hungry and though he took it home, tossed in the trash immediately . He said the gravy on the mashed potatoes was "super weird," although he did like the corn. We've eaten in a lot of different parts of Texas and have never had food quite like this (thankfully). The service was great, though. Our server checked in several times and was very friendly. I'm sorry we didn't say anything while we were there -- I didn't think it would make a difference with the food at the time. Also, just a heads-up: I'd really prefer if the beer bottle wasn't placed inside the chilled glass. It's not very appealing to drink from a glass that's had a bottle sitting in it. I'm a lover of Texas foods and their smoke prime rib was some of the best I've had. I'd have liked a creamy horseradish sauce in addition to the ground but also didn't ask for either so can't really complain. My daughter got the chicken fried steak. It was all insanely good. I have been coming to this restaurant since it was originally called the Lonestar... It is still a fantastic place to eat. We always order a cup of chili with onions and cheese, and usually split of plates of chicken, fried chicken or chicken fried steak. My tip is to make sure to ask for biscuits only and no rolls... I'm sure the rolls are fine but the biscuits are where it's at with a big part of butter and honey! Waitresses are always hopping around and very friendly! Joey was AWESOME! I had not been here in many years. Way too many years. Not because I don't like it, but because it is so far from where I've lived in the valley. We wanted something different and my wife had never been, so I suggested this place. The parking is a little challenging: the lot is small and so are the spaces. People from Texas like their trucks. If you do that math, you understand: get there early or plan to park somewhere and walk. We found the last space in the lot (which I argue is more of a "little"), Anyway, you open the door and it's all Texas. I don't know if I heard a "y'all," but it would not have been out of place at all. We were greeted immediately and shown to a booth. The place was nearly at capacity and all tables were filled within a few minutes of us sitting down. The waitstaff were hopping, but our drink order was taken quickly. Their soda machine was broken, but real sweet tea and lemonade don't come from a machine :) The sweet tea is not as sweet as I'm accustomed to, but it was good. My wife and I ordered the small portion of the chicken fried steak with the salad and mashed potatoes+gravy. The salad was ok -- my wife doesn't like green olives and it comes with minced green olives on top -- but a nice way to get started. I had the house dressing, which is a kind of yellow mustard vinaigrette that I haven't seen before. The main meal was a good-sized portion of fresh battered and fried beef, covered in cream gravy with a little spice. It was crispy and cooked well. I don't know if I could have cut it with a fork, but my knife made short work of it and the smaller size was just right for me. Out drinks were kept full, despite the deluge of customers that arrived - the waitress couldn't understand why they were getting slammed mid-week, but I guess it's good to be popular! The place is small while not really feeling cramped. There is not much room inside to wait for a table, so if you can walk in like we did, it's easy. It was fun to look around the place and see all of the Texas artifacts like road signs and brands like Shiner in addition to some older pieces like a practically ancient Visa/Mastercard sign and a Blazing Saddles poster. read more
