We were in the area having come to the Fiesta Bowl Parade and just happened to drive by. Go in; it's a great vibe! Just as cool looking on the inside as it looks from the outside. Driving through Phoenix (from LA) on our way to a hike in the middle of the night, so we used Yelp to find us a 24-hr diner and this location seemed to be the only show in town at 4am, so we set the GPS and arrived shortly afterwards. Despite it being 4am and they were empty, the staff were all busy working and cleaning and the spotless restaurant was a result of their hard work. There's a long bar with swivel chairs facing the mirrored wall with fun, 50's style murals painted along the wall and a specials menu board displayed. Exterior looks like a huge silver Airstream with colorful lettering advertising menu specials & classics. Service is very friendly and attentive. This is a casual and friendly spot. We ordered: - Diner Wings with ranch and blue cheese (nice big bowls of dipping sauce, wings a little dry but ok) - Guacamole Burger with Fries (very delicious and juicy according to Hubs. We are dwindling as our septuagenerians and centenarians depart. November 26, 2024 We branched on a veggie omelet, hash browns, a fruit bowl, coffee and orange juice, accompanied by Elvis, Otis Redding, the Supremes, etc from the juke box. The hash browns alone were enough to keep me coming back 40 more years. Brown and crispy - a hash brown model. The omelettw was chock full of veggies, oh and coffee just fine. Not feeling too hot came in today for some soup. Never been. Italian wedding soup was quite lovely, nothing extraordinary but definitely got what I came for. Really like the aesthetic of this place and being open 24hrs has the full Diner feel to it. My girlfriend was pleasantly surprised with her meal. Ruben with a side of fried pickles and a banana carmel milkshake. Ruben was good but not great, "pastrami needs some work", fried pickles were very good and had good light breading. Ate the Garlic Mushroom burger so quickly, that I missed the photo. Sorry. But it was tasty! Nice to have the option to trade fries for a small salad. The chocolate cherry shake was probably too much for the meal size, but yea, I went there and not sorry. And a nice surprise with bits of cherries in the bottom as well. Love the 50's motif. Parking 5/5 There is a Large private parking lot that wraps around the Diner. Atmosphere 5/5 This restaurant is a tribute to the 50's & 60's when America youth hung out in their Cars looking to meet up. This restaurant is a wonderful replication of that Era. Booth seating, music boxes at the tables, bar counter for those who prefer hi-top seating to chat with the waitresses. Service 5/5 We always had friendly attentive service which understandably was a bit slower on the patio. Food 5/5 We did breakfasts and special event evening meal here. Classic eggs, hash browns toast or their Burgers Special events 5/5 The Resturant occasionally hosts car shows, and Movie nights on an outdoor big screen to give the parking lot that drive-in move atmosphere! I took our oldest son to see Bob Dole when his campaign tour bus stopped at the 5 & diner to do a stump speech to a large crowd. My son wrote a book report on his experience for school. However, we were quickly disappointed by the core elements that you come to a diner for--the food, the ambiance, and the service. Let's review. The food was subpar. My sister ordered a hamburger and I had mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was initially appealing, until I realized that it was practically on fire. It took about 30 minutes to cool down enough to eat it. My sister's burger was just alright. The ambiance was subpar. We were excited to be seated at a table that had a jukebox, that is, until the host informed us that none of the jukeboxes worked, and ours was no exception. It was about 10 pm when we dined and the restaurant was oddly dark. Not in a cozy kind of way, but rather in a "it's too dark to read the menu" kind of way. The service is where 5 & Diner truly let us down. Our waitress appeared only to bring our drinks and food out and to cash us out at the end of the meal. There were no refills or check ins throughout the meal. Strangely, another waitress was very engaged with her table, to the point of loudly and vulgarly chatting with them. It was....odd. Stopped by the 5 & Diner after searching for a cool retro diner all over Phoenix. I LOVEDDDD this place and I will definitely be back! The outside is reminiscent of a food truck with a chrome coating. There is both outdoor patio and indoor seating. I was pleasantly surprised to find the diner was mostly clear at lunch on a Wednesday. I was greeted by a lovely gentleman a couple of minutes after arriving , and was sat down in a lovely red booth with a cool vintage jukebox. I had the Big Texan (as I am a native Texan and love a good BBQ burger) and was blown away by the quality of the good! My onion rings were cooked to crispy perfection! The service was amazing, and my waitress Delia did a great job of checking in on me frequently and refilling my soda. I topped off my meal with a vanilla milkshake that was to die for. I even got to chomp on the leftovers of the milkshake in the actual shake dish! I have never experienced such a cool place before and will definitely be back :) I'd say the 5 & Diner is a hidden gem in Phoenix! read more

First time eating at this diner. Upon walking in I really liked the ambiance and the retro atmosphere. Would have loved to have eaten our late lunch outside but it was 98 degrees. A/C inside was working great. We were quickly greeted and seated by a lovely hostess who was also our server. Very nice and friendly. Like some other people who have given reviews for here, I was a little disappointed that the table jukebox was not working, or just turned off, or simply didn't work at all because they are decorative only. No big deal. Other retro music was being played over the loud speaker throughout the diner which was fine. On to the food. My wife ordered the turkey club which she absolutely loved. Plenty of turkey and fresh ingredients. The fries were very tasty too. I decided to order what is advertised as one of their signature dishes, the meatloaf. I was excited because I absolutely love a good meatloaf paired with mashed potatoes and gravy and sautéed vegetables. Nothing here could have been further from what anyone would expect from a good meatloaf. On the contrary. It was the worst meatloaf I've ever had, ever. Dry, overcooked, the sauce was burnt onto it, probably from overheating it in the salamander or whatever oven they use. All being hid by a tasteless gravy. I'll be honest, I don't have the stones to send food back. I just suffered in silence, sipping lots of sweetened coffee to get it down. I'm really glad it was me who ordered this and not the wife or there would have been a scene potentially. I'm sure they have other good food to serve here, but the meatloaf today was horrible. Our party of 5 was disagreeing on where to grab brunch after church, so we chose 5 & Diner to accommodate the breakfast cravings and the burger cravings. The inside is very cute. Looks like a typical old fashioned diner. Cute booths, cushions, artwork; everything! Perfect for a ladies lunch gathering or just for vintage vibes. There was no wait when we got there at 12pm!! We were sat quickly by a friendly server. He was so on top of things, always refilled our drinks, brought us everything we needed. Even offered to get me a to-go cup for my ranch dressing (it's really good ranch, trust me!!) We all enjoyed our food so much. I got the wings under "appetizers," it's 12 traditional for $15.99! The top ones were a bit dry but there was sauce on the underneath layer and pooled on the bottom of my plate so I wasn't mad. I also had a heaping bowl of ranch dressing! No complaints from any of us. Our server was incredible! He made a joke to one of our friends and we all died laughing, he earns 5 stars from me! I wish I remembered his name. The server also offered to refill my diet soda but I declined because honestly the diet soda fountain drink tasted funky. The turkey sandwich was okay. There wasn't a lot of turkey in the sandwich but the bacon and the bread was decent. The French fries were plenty and fresh, so that was good. Hi! I came in on February 13th at around 8pm to do a school project at this diner. I found it very enjoyable as the waiters and staff were very welcoming and friendly. I had the sour dough French toast with a banana milkshake on the side. I got my food in roughly 10 minutes which comes with no complain as it all came out warm and ready to eat! The atmosphere is neat and a true diner experience. I wanted lunch so I had a plain ole cheeseburger which was 1/2 lb and juiced and cooked medium which I requested. The fries are good but there could have been more seasoning added. Everything came out hot. My bf had hungry diner and it was good. The pancakes aren't fluffy but they are still good. Overall i was skeptical since I had read the reviews but it was good. Only thing I didn't like was hearing the employees bitch about each other but our server Cindy was nice. What I love about this particular place is their chicken fried steak. Breading is crispy and meat is tender just the way I like it.
