Been meaning to try this since we pass it often. The diner is smaller, but we were able to immediately get seated and service is quick. The highlights are the large coffee mugs, the portion sizes, and that they menu items are made with thought, so the only customization made was no butter on the bread. Tried both the protein breakfast and the build your own omelette. The protein breakfast was perfect as at came with cottage cheese and avocado included, and there was salsa verde on the side. I dumped that over the top and let everything absorb. zit was the right amount of food and great flavor. The build you own omelette is a customization in itself, but the fruit cup made it stand out as it was larger and included bananas at the bottom with enough blueberries and strawberries. They do have a ~$2 card fee, but for the cost of breakfast that wasn't enough to drop it a star. The 4.8 Google review is on the nose. We will be back! read more

I had some coworkers visiting from out of town so I wanted to find a solid breakfast spot to visit near our office. We LOVED our visit to Diner 50 and this is now my go-to breakfast spot downtown. Everything was perfection. We loved the art inside and outside, music, and vibe. Our server was warm, enthusiastic, and had immaculate timing. We appreciated how playful and passionate she was. I swear she knew the name of every guest who walked through the door, and asked them thoughtful questions about their loved ones or travels. This is obviously a place that people return to and become regulars at. An excellent sign. What we were not expecting (and SO DELIGHTED WITH) was the cat rescue space through the adjoining wall. We are all cat-obsessed, so walking in and seeing a room full of absolute sweeties playing around added 100,000 points to the experience. The coffee? Epic. Served in a nearly soup bowl sized cup (hot) or gigantic mason jar (iced). Diner coffee can sometimes leave much to be desired but this coffee was soooo delicious and strong. The food? So awesome. I went with a classic breakfast plate - eggs, sausage, potatoes, blueberry pancakes. I added a biscuit because the menu said they were homemade and I had to try it. It was exceptional, I would go back just for the sausage and biscuit and coffee. My coworker got the huevos rancheros with red and green sauce and I was massively jealous. Everyone left over-caffeinated with bellies full of delicious food and hearts warm from being so well taken care of by our lovely server and getting to play with kitties. The prices are fair, the food and coffee are delicious and homemade, and the service is exceptional. I am someone who really values being involved with my community, so I feel great about spending my money somewhere that is clearly beloved by my neighbors and pours back into them. Everything about this place is great--the design is really cool and the staff were very friendly. I ordered the ribeye steak and eggs. When it came out, the steak was smaller than I expected and pretty chewy. It also seemed much leaner than what I usually expect from a ribeye, with very little marbling. Because of that, it didn't have the tenderness or flavor I normally associate with that cut. I'd still recommend this place overall since my friends enjoyed their food and everything else was good. The 50s diner theme was super cute!! Even the staff were dressed adorably in their 50s style dresses. The customer service was very accommodating and super friendly. The food portions were large and came out hot and delicious. ( My ice latte was delicious also! Yum! ) The owner is a total Earth Angel! She owns a cat rescue that is next-door. Completely separate from the restaurant, but you're able to go through and look at all of the rescues she has up for adoption. The world could use more people like her! Don't be an idiot. Come and eat here and leave in a happier place. Every part of this place hits the mark and then there's this added benefit of a kitty petting zone where you can go and pet them. The pancakes were AMAZING as were the burgers. The staff literally could not be nicer and the decor is retro fun. Great place for a date or a big family outing. I wish I didn't live 1500 miles away. I pass by Diner 50 every weekend after grocery shopping for months now and I've always wanted to stop there. I finally went there today with my friend Angelica and we had a wonderful experience. I ordered the chicken fried steak with sausage gravy and eggs and she ordered an omelette with mushrooms, onions, steak, and Swiss cheese, and both were delicious. Service was great, we were seated immediately and the staff was very friendly and attentive. A special shout out to Adriana for having a space for cat adoptions where you can actually go in and interact and play with all the kittens she has available for adoption. I'm not a big cat person, but I spent about an hour in the room playing with the cats and just having a good time with my friend. I asked Adriana about donations she needs most and said cat litter and cat food. If you do donate cat litter, please donate ONLY Purina Tidy Cat Multi-cat Clumping litter. 11/16/24 - Short version: the ratings for Diner 50 are spot on. We finally popped in this morning, around 9-ish. Had no trouble with parking, the staff was friendly and quick, the cooks know how to flavor their meat, and the menu is pretty large for such a small place. The decor inside takes you back years, to when times were simpler, movie stars didn't dress like tramps, and the music was heartfelt. Breakfast was great, would like to go back and try something else, or sample their lunch menu. I bet their milkshakes are pretty awesome. Longer version: Don't make the same two mistakes I did about Diner 50; 1) that the business is closed, and 2) that it's a dive with crap food. We have lived in this area for years, and I also worked in the area for about five years. Every time I drove by Diner 50 it looked empty. Well, that's because I just learned today it is only a breakfast / lunch joint. They close at 1 or 2 pm, depending on the weekday. The large juke box in the corner was only 10 cents (I remember paying a quarter, so this was old for sure!). Unfortunately, the only working thing was the flashing lights. There was one 45 vinyl, of Luther Vandross. :-) It took a trip to the restroom for me to notice their countertop was covered in old LPs. There was an old stove in the back near said restrooms, I almost opened it but was afraid of breaking something so old. Ha! The decor is old-time signage, and plenty of pictures of the great actors/singers: Elvis, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean. I ordered the steak and potato bowl with over-easy eggs, sans onions and peppers; my sister ordered the combo (eggs, taters, bacon, toast), plus OJ. The green sauce that came with my bowl was too spicy for me, but let me tell you, even without the onions and peppers, the meat and mushroom mixture so well seasoned and juicy it did not need anything else. It tasted wonderful just the way it was. They did forget my two eggs but then they came out quickly once I pointed that out. My only critique is the parking lot lines. They need to be repainted because they are very faint. If you have not tried Diner 50, give it a go. I do not think you'll be disappointed. read more
