Brought out of town friends and once again Richardsons never disappoints. I had the chorizo stuffed pork chop and it was excellent and a big enough portion to have a full meal the next day. One of my favorites breakfasts in Phoenix. This place has excellent southwestern style food. For breakfast I highly recommend Vic's meatloaf and eggs. It is ridiculous. Service is always top notch. I usually sit at the bar but I've also sat at a table and it's been flawless every time. Coffee is good. Even the water is great; comes in an ice cold carafe for the table. The vibe is quintessential uptown Phoenix. It's southwest (New Mexican) but slightly upscale. It would be great for a date, a group meal, and drinks. The bar is fully stocked and fairly social. Friendly vibes all around. And, as is typical on Sunday morning, people are drinking mimosas my 8:30am . Also, the lighting is perfect. Lighting makes such a huge difference. OK, I'm coming in hard. I usually judge Mexican restaurant by it in a new Mexican restaurant especially a new Mexican restaurant by green chili enchiladas with an easy egg on top which should consist of a garnishment of shredded lettuce and tomatoes as well. Onions is optional generally, I don't do the onion, but I don't mind if they put them on there but anyway that's what I considered to be a enchilada for whatever reason, I don't know the enchilada I have just didn't take me back to New Mexico. It didn't remind me of that Southwest 505 vibe. My wife come to understand is this is actually New Mexico food from the 575 which is closer to Las Cruces and El Paso Ruidoso and of course they have a different way of doing enchiladas there. I understood that that's when I realize why the chicken was so chunky it just seemed under prepared to me to enroll in. I don't know what I expect from the chicken but not just a chicken thrown into a tortilla and rolled up with some sauce over it. I'm not saying that's what I got the food. Here was excellent. It was very good for southern New Mexican food. I will go back for a special occasion. Maybe if I have a driver for some beverages I wasn't able to try a cocktail but that look like an excellent area bar and a cocktail area. Oh yeah, that's where it was jumping and the seating area was cozy and personal. I really love the way the table set up was it's very comfortable in homie feeling as far as I'll be on so yeah it's 120% on ambience. I'll just have to take a trip to Southern New Mexico and get used to the enchiladas out that way, but it was delicious. My Dad is visiting from California and LOVES southwestern food so I took him to Richardson's for brunch. They serve brunch everyday till 4pm, which is awesome. We both had a Bloody Mary that comes with all the fixings and side of beer. My Dad ordered the Richardson's combo which was one Jalapeño Benedict & 2 Chicken Enchiladas with a side of asparagus. The asparagus was cooked perfect. It was crisp, bright green, and complimented the meal and sauces. I ordered a vegetarian Jalepeno Benedict with pinto beans and hash browns which was delicious! The portions are huge! My Dad loved it so much he was like John Candy in the Great Outdoors trying to finish the Old 96er! We ended up bringing left overs home, ha! I've been dining at Richardson's since it opened in the late 1980s, and for decades it has been my go-to recommendation whenever friends or family visit Phoenix. The food has always been outstanding, the atmosphere is great, and for brunch, one thing that truly set Richardson's apart was its Bloody Mary (with beer back). It wasn't just good--it was, without question, the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. Yesterday, for the first time in all these years, I left genuinely disappointed. Richardson's has changed its signature Bloody Mary. Not only has the price increased, but the drink is now served in a tall, skinny glass that holds noticeably less than before. The presentation is uninspired and it now feels like another example of paying more and getting less. I understand that restaurants have to deal with rising costs, but when you change something that has become part of your identity--especially something that loyal customers have loved for decades--you risk losing what made people come back in the first place. I'll continue to enjoy Richardson's incredible food, but it's sad to see an iconic cocktail that was once a signature experience become just another overpriced drink. After nearly 40 years of enthusiastically recommending Richardson's to everyone who visits Phoenix, this is the first time I've felt let down. We met friends for dinner on a Thursday in Feb. 2026. One of our friends made the reservation for the patio. It was cool but they have heaters. Which made it ok. Parking was so limited that they only had valet parking. Not sure if that's the case all the time. I am not a fan of a stranger driving and parking my brand new car, but all went well. Our server was very pleasant, knowledgeable and efficient. She made sure everyone's beverage was always full, even the cocktails. Wish I could be as positive about the food. My husband had the pulled pork meal and I had chile rellenos, which I usually love, but these were the worst chile rellenos I ever had. Neither of us could finish our meal because it was so salty, especially the rice. One person in our party had scallops and he said they were very salty too. He also had the breaded fried asparagus, which he said was excellent. His wife had the enchiladas mole. She did not comment on her meal. You can take that however you want! The person who made the reservation eats often at Richardson's, which is one of his favorite restaurants in the valley. He had sausages and said they're the best. Wish I had ordered that too! I was the only one who ordered dessert. I had flan, which was very good. The bar is fully stocked and they have a good selection of draft beer. We finally got to try this place out. We arrived on a Sunday and decided to go for lunch because we didn't have reservations. We needed up sitting at the bar. The restaurant is dark, but it was super cozy and the patio was beautiful. The food was good, but I will say everything was on the spicy side. We ordered the onion rings(get them if you are a OR fan), the Meatloaf and Chili Relleno. The portions are huge, the beans taste and the food very hot. They serve the same food, you'll just get a little different ambiance each area you go to. The food overall is decent. We had several things from what I posted in photos to the jalapeno poppers and a few other apps. They serve the food extremely hot, which I can appreciate. We ate here on a Thursday evening and it was packed, yet we didn't feel crowded or that we had to wait for service. Our booth was comfortable and private. It is very dark so we used our phone flashlights to see the menu. We all ordered enchiladas which were very tasty. I had the red and green sauce and there was a good spice kick. One other had the habernaro sauce and he said it was hot but not as hot as he had expected. The portions are huge. We had leftovers. The margaritas were just ok but the old fashioned was great. I have dined here multiple times over the years and last weekend was one my least favorite times here. Service was poor, the server talked me into adding blacken shrimp and chicken to pasta Heidi. When I got it was shrimp only and not blackened. I would have sent it back but would have taken to long to get a server back. My wife's sangria was so bad that she almost couldn't drink it. When mentioned to our server he said it was because he didn't make it. We sat on the patio and they had both the ac and heaters on and it was a cool evening. I will think twice about going back. I'm so torn on Richardson's. Wanted to love it but there are clearly some issues. Location/parking/ambiance: 5 stars Valet parking is fantastic and prompt. We appreciated not having to search for parking. The place looks really small from the outside but looks are deceiving. It's actually pretty large with patio dining, "garden" dining and indoor dining....but they're all kind of indoors. We chose to sit in the fire pit and the host lit the fireplace for us. I should have stopped him because it was 85 freakin' degrees yesterday but whatever, it made the ambiance really nice. Service: 1 star The host that we encountered definitely had an air about him. An air of snootiness that we didn't appreciate. He really didn't seem to care about the patrons. The one positive is mentioned above - lighting the fireplace. Our server was horrible. Upon sitting down the host said he would let the server know we were there. Now I don't know if he failed to do that or what but it took 15 minutes for a server to appear. Thankfully, we had asked the host for water. We ordered adult beverages and 3 different appetizers. Drinks came in a decent amount of time however the apps took forever. When she brought them, she said she would bring the bacon wrapped shrimp out in a minute when they were done. Said server swung back by 30 minutes later and we had to ask about the shrimp so I can't help but wonder if she forgot to put that in to the kitchen. When we ordered a 2nd drink and told her we wanted to order shots. I placed my order and when my husband asked for 2 different things they don't have so he hesitated for a moment to figure out what he might order instead, she started walking away! I feel that for the prices, they could make their drinks a bit more pleasing to the eye - both were served with a lime wedge in the drink and that's it. My guy had rum and cokes - can't mess that up, right? Food - we ordered Grilled Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, New Mexican Con Queso and New Mexican Sausages. The queso was good and different - kind of a cross between queso, spinach dip and a chorizo dip - served with regular and blue corn tortilla chips. The New Mexican Sausages were very tasty and tender. We enjoyed those quite a bit. Once we got the shrimp, they were good although overdone - the shrimp was kind of hard and the bacon was very charred. What was kind of offputting is the way the food is served/displayed. Pretty messy. The sausages and the grilled shrimp were both laid on a plate that had a flour tortilla down first, then pinto beans were layered on top along with onions and the sausages were on top of that. For the shrimp, it was the same but apparently there were four dipping sauces on top of the beans. We could only detect three but it was such a mess, there could have been six for all we know. Pricing: 2 stars For what they serve, the prices were pretty high. We managed to get HH prices. Queso Dip: $14 2 sausages: $14 3 bacon wrapped shrimp: $14 Paloma: $14 Ranch Water: $12 Captain & coke: $11 2 shots of Hornitos: $12 each But for the regular menu, we felt the prices were really high. One thing we cracked up over was the "Kids Menu" - Tomahawk Steak for $90, Steak & Lobster for $65, Charcuterie Board for $55 and Foi Gras for $85. Surely that was a joke??? We ate inside, which is nice and dark. Our service this trip was very slow. Secondly, we were charged for 3 glasses of wine we did not order. 3/26 Sunday reservations 5. We had not been there for a couple of years but always enjoyed always the food. Not today. Service was very slow, more than hour wait to be served after giving our orders. Had to send one order back, eggs were burnt. Hash browns were burnt on all the orders. Unfortunately, we ordered take out and when we open the enchiladas at home that was burnt and it was chicken but we had ordered cheese. Huevos Rancheros with hatch chilies, beans and 3 eggs any way you want them is fantastic. The pan seared salmon appetizer with dip, also fantastic. Came here for dinner and was quite annoyed by the aggressive attitude from one of the bartender's when he approached our server. It was very unprofessional on his part to yell when others around are just trying to enjoy a nice night out after work. The matter made the environment/Mood a bit sour... I ate my food in an awkward silence looking around in second hand embarrassment trying to justify to my date how it's usually "always nice here". To add-on to this, our server (considering she was scolded) was fast and helpful and overall very cheerful she continued to work with us and our picky appetite and brought everything to our liking. an overall great service in the business end of things. However that bartender should be taken to anger management as he continued bickering after the fact.
