Our waiter was incredibly friendly and sweet, despite him being busy and serving so many tables. The dry Ford's gin martini was a great deal for $5 Sip Sessions on Thursdays. The Kumamoto oysters were served on ice with a delicious mignonette sauce on the side. The Belgian fries were nothing special and pretty overpriced at $9. The prime rib sliders were flavorful but very oily and fatty. They forgot to serve the au jus sauce with it but gave it to us once we asked. The sushi hand rolls were below average. I wouldn't get them again. The lobster roll had an odd taste to it, all the rolls had way too much rice, and the fish was kind of warm. They were, however, very generous with the amount of fish they put on them. The French onion soup was served warm and not hot but, other than that, the cheese was gooey and crispy, the onions were caramelized, and the broth was flavorful. The chocolate pistachio cake had a nice crunch to it with a fudge-like consistency. The interior of the restaurant is a vibe, with comfortable booth seating and low lighting.
We went in for restaurant week. First of all our server was fantastic! This review does not reflect on him. Started out with some cocktails, which were very tasty. However, they were out of a couple of things, including one of the cocktails I wanted to order and the Cabernet. Definitely kind of odd they're out of the wine, especially because then it forced us to go up to the next bottles which were $20 more not a huge deal but kind of annoying. But the food. The French onion soup was fine. Nothing to write home about. the appetizers were definitely the best thing I did really enjoyed the pigs in a blanket, and the Hamachi Crudo was good however very small. Now the mains is where it really fell apart. I had the short rib, but you literally could barely cut. It was so overdone. They offered to bring me another, but then he came back and he said honestly, they're all gonna come out like that they did offer to get something else, but with doing restaurant week it seemed a little odd to order something else off the menu and so he ended up pumping our bottle of wine. Which was nice. My friend had the burger and I tried to bite and it was not the best and it had a ton of raw onion! desserts were good, but they honestly tasted like a dessert you could get anywhere. Overall, I would maybe come back for appetizers and a cocktail, but it really did not wow me
I came after work longing for a good old fashion. Came to the Mercer and ordered one. It came in a martini class, which looked like an espresso martini so a little confused. Tasted it and it was an espresso martini. On the menu it shows that it is made with espresso, chocolate bitters and vodka. The old fashions I'm used too are made with burbon, but this might be a unique take on it from the Mercer. I've also noticed a lot of type-o's on this menu. But Luzette told us it was a misprint and made sure the right drink was ordered and offered a dessert to make things up. Was going to give 1.5 starts but Luzette made it a 4.2 stars
The original Merc Bar, now The Mercer, I always loved this space. Small, dark wood, very intimate. With a party of 6, everyone seemed to enjoy their food. As did I. Some of the best prime rib sandwich I have had. Only gripe, for the money, it was very small. An unnamed restaurant not very far away is definitely a rival and you get a full size as oppose to this one that I got. Still, I enjoyed it and would come back to try other items. It was very cold inside the restaurant, I am sure causing the food to get cold. I think our server was the only one so he wasn't always there but I appreciated his hard work. Ultimately, I am a fan of the Mercer:)
I stopped here with a friend for happy hour Thursday and so glad I did. Staff is super friendly. We sat at the bar, love the zebra chairs. I tried to get the sparkling rose but they were out so I ended up getting the other sparkling choice from the happy hour menu. For appetizers we had the lobster roll and some beef sliders. The beef sliders were great and I loved the horseradish. I wasn't impressed with the lobster mini rolls I think it was the mixture. I did order the prime rib to go with the mashed potatoes and that was great. Next time I will try the French onion soup. Loved the decor and atmosphere here will stop again soon.
I really loved the space when it was the MercBar, and I'm so happy that it still has the same personality. The dark wood and stained glass bricks really give this place personality. It's dimy lit, which I think always makes a better dinner atmosphere. Our server was a dream. She was so nice and so knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive as well. We started with a couple of drinks - I got the Summer breeze, and have you just got a beer. The Summer breeze was so yummy and refreshing. We ordered the calamari which came with a garlic aioli and marinara sauce. I can't decide which is better - - the aioli or the zesty marinara sauce (which makes me want to try the pasta). Hubby ordered the Greek salad with a side of grilled salmon. This is only the second place I have seen in the valley that serves authentic Greek salad - that means no lettuce, just tomato, cucumber, olives, green peppers, and red onion topped with of hunk of feta. It was delicious! Also delicious was my crispy skin grilled salmon with forbidden (black) rice and a citrus beurre blanc. So, so, delish. This is a great place to come for dinner even just cocktails. In fact, Martini's are their specialty, so if you are a martini person, this is your place. Seems like it's a great place for groups, as well as just dinner for two.
We had dinner reservations for my friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday at 8:45. It was busy. Our server was nice but overwhelmed so we didn't see much of him. The cocktails we ordered were good. I don't remember the name of them. My friend and I both got lobster rolls which were good. We also got a side of mashed potatoes and side of Mac & cheese. The mashed potatoes were gummy which means they overprocessed them. The Mac & cheese tasted like pasta water and nothing else. Even adding salt and pepper didn't help. It was flavorless. My other friend got French onion soup, which she said was good. My other friend got the Cesar salad which was just an average salad, nothing special. Gratuity is automatically included in the bill. We didn't know that and almost tipped the waiter additionally although we barely saw him. The decor is beautiful. My recommendation is to come here for nice pictures and cocktails. Go elsewhere if you want good food. Also, the menus are not all the same so some of them have cocktails listed and some don't. The should be a sign about lack of consistency and quality here.
Fabulous restaurant, menu and bar!! Elegant, comfortable, beautifully decorated restaurant that has the best "old vibe" feel of anything that I've been to in a long time! Not to mention the amazing food and drinks. You would be remiss if you didn't get the lobster rolls with caviar appetizer. Stuffed and so delicious, topped with decadent caviar!!! The country roasted chicken over the best mashed potatoes, just melts in your mouth!! The branzino was cooked to perfection!!! And definitely don't miss the cheesecake (or honestly any of their desserts!), it's the best around!! Hopefully, you'll be lucky enough to get Jeremy as your waiter. He was so great and helpful. Overall, the best dining experience!!
Food: went here for restaurant week and it did not disappoint. It was 4 courses for $55! They gave you full size portions too. For the first course I ordered the French onion soup and it was delicious!! Second I ordered the hamachi crudo and honestly was not the best, fish didn't taste very fresh. Next I had the rigatoni pomodoro and it was delicious, simple yet tasty. Lastly, I ordered the Yule log for dessert and it was delicious. Service: I wish I remembered the servers name but he was very kind, professional and attentive Ambiance: such a fun vibe and great for date night
The Mercer had a really nice atmosphere and some great starters. The lollipop wings were definitely the highlight of the meal -- perfectly sized, flavorful, and easy to eat in one bite. The appetizers overall were well done and probably the best part of the experience. Unfortunately, the steak didn't live up to expectations. For a restaurant at this level, I expected better quality and flavor, but it just wasn't up to par for me. Service and ambiance were good, but the main course fell short compared to how strong the appetizers started off.
Being a native New Yorker, This is one of my fave spots for a drink, quick bites, and a vibe ! It gives you the feel like you're in swanky nyc. The staff is sweet and the cocktails are amazing. Plan to spend money but it's an experience ! The pigs in a blanket are crack
On arriving to Phoenix from the frozen Midwest, I had a delightful lunch on the patio in the sunshine! I started, as all sunshiny meals should, with a lovely French rosé. From there, I had the lunch special with the Onion Soup Gratinée and french dip sliders all for $20. The soup was delicious enough that I burned my tongue several times trying to eat it too early. The french dip sliders were also great- piled high with tender roast beef. The au jus could have used a bit more flavor but that is a minor quibble. My server was personable and quick with recommendations. I'd plan to return for happy hour or lunch!
Finding this restaurant is a little tricky. We had to use valet to park our car. The restaurant is dark and cozy. We got a cozy quiet booth in the bar area. Our waitress Summer came quickly and got our drink order. Very friendly and gave us information on drinks and sizes. We ordered appetizers-lobster mini sandwiches on a delicious brioche type bun. Mini hotdog bites were also good. Service is great there very attentive. My friend had a ceasar salad which he said was good. Whole pieces of romaine. So be prepared to have to slice it up. I had a greek salad. Pieces of tomato and cucumber were huge. Fresh and dressing was good. But did not enjoy having to slice everything up. Did love the nice size feta. Also had to slice up. For entrees I had the Grilled Branzino with a side of delicious mashed potatoes. The branzino was delicious, loved the herby salsa on top. Mashed potatoes were perfect and good sized. My friend had the House prime rib. He loved it and enjoyed every bite. Summer our waitress was great and made sure everything was perfect. Loved the atmosphere here. We'll be back very soon
One of the cutest finds in Phoenix. This place feels like a speakeasy with dim lighting and chill vibes. They had a great happy hour and plenty of choices. My colleagues and I were there for the drinks so we seemed to unanimously get the sushi hand rolls and French dip sliders. The service was great because our server had a big personality and was very attentive. We stopped in a few minutes before Happy Hour was ending and he let order a few minutes after it was over. read more

The Mercer was only a short walk from our hotel, The Camby, so of course we had to try it out for dinner. The vibe is very dim, almost like a speakeasy. Sexy, but hard to read the menu. Our server was Parker. He was pretty chill, he even made us a free drink to taste. They don't have amaretto (what in the world), so he made a similar style of drink. It was decent. The food was a mixed bag. We started with the Calamari. It was pretty good, the Aioli and Marinara complimented it well. I had the Wedge Salad for my entree and while it was beautiful, I wish it had more of a sweetness to it. It was very one-note (salty). My Mom liked her Salmon but noted that the Forbidden Rice tasted a bit underdone. Would we come back? Not sure. Did Parker do a good job taking care of us, and was the food decent? Yes! read more
We went to The Mercer for happy hour and made the reservation on OpenTable, which was quite easy and convenient. We got a booth, and our server, Gatsby, was really friendly. The place had a nice romantic vibe but still felt chill and relaxed. For drinks, we had the Pickle Tiny Tini and the Vesper Tini. Both were good, but I liked the Pickle Tiny Tini better. For food, we started with the French onion soup and got the salmon and yellowtail hand rolls. We also wanted to try the spicy lobster hand roll, but they were out of lobster. We also ordered the French dip sliders, mini lobster rolls, and the pastrami Reuben egg roll. The sliders were really flavorful, and the mini lobster rolls were tasty. The only thing that we don't really like was the Reuben egg roll; the filling was good, but the wrapper wasn't crispy and was kind of soggy. It was nice and quiet while we were there, and free parking was a nice bonus. I try, I review, glad we came to give it a try. read more

We stopped in for a drink and immediately loved the slightly squanky, old-school atmosphere: quirky, fun, and full of character. We did try the sushi and weren't overwhelmed by it. They did have a few items on their happy hour menu that looked tempting. The place definitely has potential, though it leans a bit on the pricey side. Our happy hour martinis were delicious, but since they were the "mini-tini" version, they disappeared quickly. Overall, a charming spot for a quick drink with a nostalgic vibe. read more

Had the best service from Kieren while the server from the entire room tried to close the entire location. He kept it open and made us feel like VIP customers which is top-notch and nothing I've ever seen in Scottsdale so because of his reaction tonight and support tonight I will come back to this bar, but if it was up to the manager, who tried to close early before the hours located, I would never come back read more

Stopped by for restaurant week and had a great experience. The restaurant is broken into 3 sections, a bar area, a dining area to the right and another dining area on the left. Definitely recommend making reservations as it can fill up quickly. Service here is great. The restaurant week menu featured a 4 course menu, so we got to try a little of everything. Everything came out full portion which was unexpected but great. The mini lobster rolls were so good and filled generously. The French onion soup was delicious and had a really great broth. The branzino was huge and the chicken melted in your mouth. Dessert ended on a high with a creamy cheesecake and a chocolate yodel. Definitely a must try spot read more

With a newborn at home, getting a sitter and going out for a date night felt like a big deal, and The Mercer was the perfect choice. Tucked away on the non-shopping side of the Biltmore, the restaurant feels like a fancy secret. The ambiance is immediately striking: intimate, fun, and very Gatsby. We didn't have a reservation, so the staff offered us service on the patio while we waited for an inside table. Despite it raining all day, the area was surprisingly comfortable, completely dry, and offered a quiet, lovely spot for us to chat and have a drink before dinner. The standout on the menu is, without a doubt, their martini selections. Our waitress was awesome! I'm not a martini expert, and she expertly guided me to the espresso martini. My husband loved his bartender's concoction mocktail, which was a delicious key lime flavor. Our dinner was so much fun and truly felt like the special date night we'd hoped for. We were seated in a cozy, private-feeling booth, and it was nice to see others around us celebrating special occasions, too. We love getting our server's recommendations, and their insight led us to a great sequence of dishes: the lobster rolls, filet, wedge salad, and two desserts. The highlight for me was the wedge salad. It was served in a circular shape (not a traditional wedge), which I actually loved because it eliminated the awkward cutting and helped with every bite being the perfect bite. It was SO delicious I may come back just to order the wedge salad, lobster rolls, and drinks! The entire meal was exceptional, with just one small note: the macaroni and cheese could have been much saucier... some bites felt a bit dry. But honestly, the rest of the meal was so good, that small detail is barely worth mentioning! Highly recommend The Mercer for an intimate, upscale date night. read more

Elevated and indulgent. We started with all the fancy things: caviar and blinis, bone marrow, and a hamachi crudo that was literally a flavor bomb -- melt-in-your-mouth level delicious. For mains, we went all in. The branzino had perfectly crispy skin, flaky fish, and chimichurri on top that tied it all together. The steak and frites? A solid classic. But the surprise favorite? The Mercer Burger. Dry-aged, massive, packed with flavor -- and only $24?? That's a steal for the quality. Dessert was the cheesecake, and I'm still dreaming about it. Light and creamy with a buttery CAKE crust (yes, cake!), fresh strawberries, and graham cracker crumbles on the side. So simple, so good. Mercer is a whole vibe. Dark, sexy ambiance, great music, and genuinely great food. Run -- don't walk. read more

Somewhere between disappointment and mediocrity. Think "fine dining" promises but delivered in a sports bar package. I think there's a front and back area - front being more of the bar area - where we were seated. We made dinner reservations - two birthdays between the three of us. Chipped glassware. Pool tournament playing on the tv above the bar. Just weird vibes given what we were expecting. We maybe insulted the waiter when we asked about the difference in the beef between the prime rib and the Au Jus sandwich - asking if the sandwich was today's prime rib or the leftover. He said "sir - really?" before regaining his composure. He did get more fun as the meal went on but set an "off tone" for the evening. Now - the food was overall ok. The hand rolls were decent - so were the oysters. We ordered champagne and fries and the fries arrived 15 minutes after everything else and were just ok. For dinner, one of us had the brick chicken which was THE STAR of the night. Very tasty and the roasted potatoes and broccolini was delicious. Two of us had the prime rib - served the way we ordered it (medium and medium rare) but it was only lukewarm at best. It was also pretty tough - maybe lower grade. I get it - tricky to serve, but holding it at 125 keeps it both warm and rare. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm. The macaroni and cheese was also lukewarm on top but pretty hot an inch in - making me think that it (like most of the meal) sat for several hot minutes before it was served. Back to the birthdays - they served a nice cheesecake and a chocolate raspberry roll (complimentary) for a treat. It was nice. All in all, at this price point ($360+) we were disappointed by the experience and suggest trying somewhere else if you're looking for a nicer place for dinner. read more

After a long day at work, my girlfriend and I decided to finally check out The Mercer--and wow, what a treat. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was spot-on: dimly lit, modern, and just the right amount of sexy. The service was genuinely fantastic--warm, attentive, but not overbearing--which always sets the tone for me. We didn't realize it was restaurant week until we got there, but that made it even more fun since we could mix and match dishes. Between the two of us, we covered a lot of ground: French onion soup, lobster rolls with caviar, short rib with Gorgonzola-stuffed agnolotti, and their playfully named "Yo de Lee Hee Ho" dessert. Everything came out beautifully presented and full of flavor. I'd highly recommend going this route so you can sample a little of everything. We couldn't resist adding on a few extra bites--tuna poke handroll, pigs in a blanket (elevated but nostalgic), and their French dip. Let me pause here: the French dip was phenomenal. I'm a self-proclaimed French dip connoisseur, and this was easily one of the best I've had--perfectly tender meat, crunchy bread, and au jus that actually had depth. If you go, order this. Trust me. The only miss for us were the fries (a bit stale, which stood out given how great the rest was). But honestly, that was such a small blip in an otherwise stellar experience. Cocktails? We both ordered Old Fashioneds, and they were balanced, strong, and delicious--the kind of drink you sip slowly and don't want to end. Overall, The Mercer nailed it for me: great for a romantic date night, but also the kind of place you'd want to bring a friend just to enjoy a good cocktail and a few bites. Can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu. read more
