One of the cutest finds in Phoenix. This place feels like a speakeasy with dim lighting and chill vibes. They had a great happy hour and plenty of choices. My colleagues and I were there for the drinks so we seemed to unanimously get the sushi hand rolls and French dip sliders. The service was great because our server had a big personality and was very attentive. We went to The Mercer for happy hour and made the reservation on OpenTable, which was quite easy and convenient. We got a booth, and our server, Gatsby, was really friendly. The place had a nice romantic vibe but still felt chill and relaxed. For drinks, we had the Pickle Tiny Tini and the Vesper Tini. Both were good, but I liked the Pickle Tiny Tini better. For food, we started with the French onion soup and got the salmon and yellowtail hand rolls. We also wanted to try the spicy lobster hand roll, but they were out of lobster. We also ordered the French dip sliders, mini lobster rolls, and the pastrami Reuben egg roll. The sliders were really flavorful, and the mini lobster rolls were tasty. The only thing that we don't really like was the Reuben egg roll; the filling was good, but the wrapper wasn't crispy and was kind of soggy. We went in for restaurant week. First of all our server was fantastic! This review does not reflect on him. Started out with some cocktails, which were very tasty. However, they were out of a couple of things, including one of the cocktails I wanted to order and the Cabernet. Definitely kind of odd they're out of the wine, especially because then it forced us to go up to the next bottles which were $20 more not a huge deal but kind of annoying. But the food. The French onion soup was fine. Nothing to write home about. the appetizers were definitely the best thing I did really enjoyed the pigs in a blanket, and the Hamachi Crudo was good however very small. Now the mains is where it really fell apart. I had the short rib, but you literally could barely cut. It was so overdone. They offered to bring me another, but then he came back and he said honestly, they're all gonna come out like that they did offer to get something else, but with doing restaurant week it seemed a little odd to order something else off the menu and so he ended up pumping our bottle of wine. Which was nice. My friend had the burger and I tried to bite and it was not the best and it had a ton of raw onion! desserts were good, but they honestly tasted like a dessert you could get anywhere. The original Merc Bar, now The Mercer, I always loved this space. Small, dark wood, very intimate. With a party of 6, everyone seemed to enjoy their food. As did I. Some of the best prime rib sandwich I have had. Only gripe, for the money, it was very small. An unnamed restaurant not very far away is definitely a rival and you get a full size as oppose to this one that I got. Still, I enjoyed it and would come back to try other items. It was very cold inside the restaurant, I am sure causing the food to get cold. I think our server was the only one so he wasn't always there but I appreciated his hard work. I stopped here with a friend for happy hour Thursday and so glad I did. Staff is super friendly. We sat at the bar, love the zebra chairs. I tried to get the sparkling rose but they were out so I ended up getting the other sparkling choice from the happy hour menu. For appetizers we had the lobster roll and some beef sliders. The beef sliders were great and I loved the horseradish. I wasn't impressed with the lobster mini rolls I think it was the mixture. I did order the prime rib to go with the mashed potatoes and that was great. Next time I will try the French onion soup. Loved the decor and atmosphere here will stop again soon. read more

We had dinner reservations for my friend's birthday dinner on a Saturday at 8:45. It was busy. Our server was nice but overwhelmed so we didn't see much of him. The cocktails we ordered were good. I don't remember the name of them. My friend and I both got lobster rolls which were good. We also got a side of mashed potatoes and side of Mac & cheese. The mashed potatoes were gummy which means they overprocessed them. The Mac & cheese tasted like pasta water and nothing else. Even adding salt and pepper didn't help. It was flavorless. My other friend got French onion soup, which she said was good. My other friend got the Cesar salad which was just an average salad, nothing special. Gratuity is automatically included in the bill. We didn't know that and almost tipped the waiter additionally although we barely saw him. The decor is beautiful. My recommendation is to come here for nice pictures and cocktails. Go elsewhere if you want good food. Also, the menus are not all the same so some of them have cocktails listed and some don't. I really loved the space when it was the MercBar, and I'm so happy that it still has the same personality. The dark wood and stained glass bricks really give this place personality. It's dimy lit, which I think always makes a better dinner atmosphere. Our server was a dream. She was so nice and so knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive as well. We started with a couple of drinks - I got the Summer breeze, and have you just got a beer. The Summer breeze was so yummy and refreshing. We ordered the calamari which came with a garlic aioli and marinara sauce. I can't decide which is better - - the aioli or the zesty marinara sauce (which makes me want to try the pasta). Hubby ordered the Greek salad with a side of grilled salmon. This is only the second place I have seen in the valley that serves authentic Greek salad - that means no lettuce, just tomato, cucumber, olives, green peppers, and red onion topped with of hunk of feta. It was delicious! Also delicious was my crispy skin grilled salmon with forbidden (black) rice and a citrus beurre blanc. So, so, delish. This is a great place to come for dinner even just cocktails. The appetizers overall were well done and probably the best part of the experience. Unfortunately, the steak didn't live up to expectations. Friday night was me and GF 2nd time at the Mercer in about 3 month span. The first experience was ok but came without expectations. We were seated right away and our server was very pleasant at first. Food was slow to come and just ok for the price point. As the dinner progressed the server went from pleasant to what seemed to be annoyed with being a server. I try to never judge a place by a ingle visit. The 2nd time will be the last time. We met to good friends for HH to enjoy some cocktails and food. We were seated right away and quickly recognized that we had the same server and just like the 1st time his attitude went from over friendly to having an attitude. Our friends noticed it right away. Service aside, we order a few apps including a dozen oysters. As the food came out via a food runner, he explained that they had run out of oysters and could only serve us a1/2 dozen. A Few minutes later the manager stopped by the table to apologize for being out of oysters and said that they had 3 left and was going to bring them out to us at no cost. We said great and thanked him. Long story short, we never saw the oysters or the manager again. The rest of the food was subpar and the server was just himself, annoyed at being there. read more

On arriving to Phoenix from the frozen Midwest, I had a delightful lunch on the patio in the sunshine! I started, as all sunshiny meals should, with a lovely French rosé. From there, I had the lunch special with the Onion Soup Gratinée and french dip sliders all for $20. The soup was delicious enough that I burned my tongue several times trying to eat it too early. The french dip sliders were also great- piled high with tender roast beef. The au jus could have used a bit more flavor but that is a minor quibble. Finding this restaurant is a little tricky. We had to use valet to park our car. The restaurant is dark and cozy. We got a cozy quiet booth in the bar area. Our waitress Summer came quickly and got our drink order. Very friendly and gave us information on drinks and sizes. We ordered appetizers-lobster mini sandwiches on a delicious brioche type bun. Mini hotdog bites were also good. Service is great there very attentive. My friend had a ceasar salad which he said was good. Whole pieces of romaine. So be prepared to have to slice it up. I had a greek salad. Pieces of tomato and cucumber were huge. Fresh and dressing was good. But did not enjoy having to slice everything up. Did love the nice size feta. Also had to slice up. All of the food was incredibly bland and tasted like it had just been defrosted in the microwave from the back of a Sysco food truck. With the exception of the chocolate cake that was included as dessert. We're pretty sure that came from the local QT gas station from down the street... Everything came out full portion which was unexpected but great. The mini lobster rolls were so good and filled generously. The French onion soup was delicious and had a really great broth. The standout on the menu is, without a doubt, their martini selections. Our waitress was awesome! I'm not a martini expert, and she expertly guided me to the espresso martini. My husband loved his bartender's concoction mocktail, which was a delicious key lime flavor. Our dinner was so much fun and truly felt like the special date night we'd hoped for. We were seated in a cozy, private-feeling booth, and it was nice to see others around us celebrating special occasions, too. We love getting our server's recommendations, and their insight led us to a great sequence of dishes: the lobster rolls, filet, wedge salad, and two desserts. The highlight for me was the wedge salad. It was served in a circular shape (not a traditional wedge), which I actually loved because it eliminated the awkward cutting and helped with every bite being the perfect bite. Somewhere between disappointment and mediocrity. Think "fine dining" promises but delivered in a sports bar package. I think there's a front and back area - front being more of the bar area - where we were seated. We made dinner reservations - two birthdays between the three of us. Chipped glassware. Pool tournament playing on the tv above the bar. Just weird vibes given what we were expecting. We maybe insulted the waiter when we asked about the difference in the beef between the prime rib and the Au Jus sandwich - asking if the sandwich was today's prime rib or the leftover. He said "sir - really?" before regaining his composure. He did get more fun as the meal went on but set an "off tone" for the evening. Now - the food was overall ok. The hand rolls were decent - so were the oysters. We ordered champagne and fries and the fries arrived 15 minutes after everything else and were just ok. For dinner, one of us had the brick chicken which was THE STAR of the night. Very tasty and the roasted potatoes and broccolini was delicious. Two of us had the prime rib - served the way we ordered it (medium and medium rare) but it was only lukewarm at best. It was also pretty tough - maybe lower grade. I get it - tricky to serve, but holding it at 125 keeps it both warm and rare. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm. The macaroni and cheese was also lukewarm on top but pretty hot an inch in - making me think that it (like most of the meal) sat for several hot minutes before it was served. Back to the birthdays - they served a nice cheesecake and a chocolate raspberry roll (complimentary) for a treat. It was nice. All in all, at this price point ($360+) we were disappointed by the experience and suggest trying somewhere else if you're looking for a nicer place for dinner. read more

Special, unique wine list, all eclectic brands. Fun spirits labels and delicious cocktails that are aromatic, fresh fruits, and tooooo smooth. Try the Martini program with gin! Love all the stemware, barware and cool bar itself. Awesome food. We did a bunch of small plays to share, good portions, fresh seafood and nice different varieties vs all the other typical menus. The place looks great. Went in tonight because I've been dying to try the French onion soup. So thought I'd go for dinner and a cocktail. It was short lived. In the end my guess is they were understaffed. But even if that was the case it was no reason to take it out on me as a customer. I walk in and let him know it's for 1. He offered the bar and I said I would prefer a table. He seemed annoyed but told me yes and I sat at a smaller booth/table 2 top. He gave me a menu and I waited. He came with a menu and went off for a bit. Eventually he came back with a water and told me quickly he'd be back. By this time I was already ready to order. So I waited and watched him go to the 3 tables in front of me. Ask them how they were, stop to chat a little then serviced someone in the other room and bus tables. Then go back out some where. So at this point it I decided to leave since it had been a while. So I went to the bar and asked for a stamp for my parking. The bartender snapped back clearly annoyed one moment please and went off. After a long day at work, my girlfriend and I decided to finally check out The Mercer--and wow, what a treat. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was spot-on: dimly lit, modern, and just the right amount of sexy. The service was genuinely fantastic--warm, attentive, but not overbearing--which always sets the tone for me. We didn't realize it was restaurant week until we got there, but that made it even more fun since we could mix and match dishes. Between the two of us, we covered a lot of ground: French onion soup, lobster rolls with caviar, short rib with Gorgonzola-stuffed agnolotti, and their playfully named "Yo de Lee Hee Ho" dessert. Everything came out beautifully presented and full of flavor. I'd highly recommend going this route so you can sample a little of everything. We couldn't resist adding on a few extra bites--tuna poke handroll, pigs in a blanket (elevated but nostalgic), and their French dip. Let me pause here: the French dip was phenomenal. I'm a self-proclaimed French dip connoisseur, and this was easily one of the best I've had--perfectly tender meat, crunchy bread, and au jus that actually had depth. If you go, order this. Trust me. The only miss for us were the fries (a bit stale, which stood out given how great the rest was). But honestly, that was such a small blip in an otherwise stellar experience. Cocktails? Customer service is terribly lacking, let's start with the reservation for our table for 2, we were 30 minutes early and we got told there are no other tables open or high tops or outside. Oddly their own online reservation showed high tops being available. I noticed the hostess didn't even check the system she was just dismissive so we end up at the bar. The bartender wanted to charge extra for changing the fries that come with the $24 burger to coleslaw. In my entire experience in the restaurant business I've never seen that. Fair enough, we order our food. They were busy that night and at showed ad we kept getting the wrong orders, then finally food started arriving. They were out of all hand rolls except the lobster ones which took 30 minutes to be exact to come out. And we had to remind the bartender and the server who brought the other food about the rolls. Finally the side of fries that they said they would bring never came. Place has potential but the service is an after thought. Being a regular at camelback east fine establishments , this place is a miss.
