Hubby ordered the grilled salmon with a Caesar salad, and that was also fantastic-- perfectly cooked (medium). We had already started with a Cider Corps cider and an amaretto sour. This is my favorite of all the Common Ground Culinary restaurant group (The Collins, The Neighborly, etc). The decor is casual with a touch of rustic--right up my aesthetic alley. The bartender was our server, and she was a delight. We sat at a highschool near the bar with a perfect view of the World Cup game between Switzerland and Argentina. It made for a great evening. I grabbed a quick lunch here at The Macintosh after shopping at the nearby Trader Joe's. This place is located in the Town and Country Shopping Center. Even though my time here was brief, I had a nice visit here. Service was great and food was delicious. I enjoyed the atmosphere in the dining room. I didn't have time for drinks, but I hear they have a nice selection of drinks in their bar and a great happy hour. The Macintosh is described as a neighborhood restaurant that serves modern American and Southern cuisine. It was once called Grassroots Kitchen & Tap before it got rebranded. They have a diverse menu with a lot of different choices. Shrimp and Grits, Barbecued Beef Ribs, a Chicken Salad and Po Boy Sandwiches are some of the standouts. I settled on the Rotisserie Chicken which came with a side of onion rings. I'm a big pesto fan and love the buttermilk pesto for dipping. I had a nice time and look forward to a return visit. Stumbled upon this restaurant while in the area on a girls shopping day with friends. Upon entering it was a cute vibe. Loved all the different foods on the menu. Think American food which sprinkles or creole/New Orleans flavors. We barely hit happy hour and tried the sliders (we did one of each chicken and brisket). Both were delicious, the brisket was tender, we were pleasantly surprised at how good the brisket ones were. Our waitress Brooklyn suggested the brussel sprouts and when I say they are amazing it is no joke!! They were so flavor with a great balsamic glaze with roasted garlic and a maple bacon in them ...again absolutely delicious. We picked a smoke salmon and a risotto maybe, one of us thought it was good, I didn't like the flavor but it was a preference. We had the hummingbird drinks which were again delicious and one ordered off the cocktail menu and had a Hugo spritz which was not great(there's a reason to stay on menu)! Another had the Paloma and she said it was really good. Brooklyn, our waitress, provided great service, our order got a little mixed up but Brooklyn was quick to correct and was great. We enjoyed our time and asked for the bill. We were brought the wrong bill, which we didn't notice because again we were laughing and chatting enjoying being with friends and just put our card down to pay. Another server was checking us out and he noticed it wasn't our bill. This is when the visit turned bizarre, a manager, Ella, came over and grilled us on how did we get our chicken sliders, who brought them to our table and we felt attacked. Frankly, we had no clue who brought them, we were just happy it was quickly rectified and we were having a great visit. We don't give the mix up a second thought! But, Ella kept pushing on how we got chicken sliders and not the chicken and biscuit which was in our bill. By this point there were 3 of them at our table: Ella grilling us, Brooklyn walked up to make sure everything was ok and the other server just trying to do his job. Brooklyn obviously seeing we were being grilled about the mixup by Ella, and said they ordered the chicken sliders, we brought out the chicken and biscuit but fixed it. Ella put her hand up in Brooklyn's face and was so incredibly rude and disrespectful to Brooklyn, and told her enough and stop talking!! By this point the other waiter had already left and Brooklyn walked away. We were appalled at this managers behavior in front of us (we are all in leadership roles) and then it brought concern if this is how Ella treated staff in front of customers what is happening behind the scenes! Again, food atmosphere was all great and Brooklyn was great, along with the other waiter. We paid and finished our drinks, we decided to speak to management to ensure our experience was communicated to ensure there was no backlash to Brooklyn. The manager was so great! We were offered a desert or something else which we declined, we just wanted someone to know what the experience was. Great recovery to this manager(I can't remember her name). I've been here twice now, once for a girls night dinner and another for a large group event and both times the service was very slow. It took like 20 min before they ordered drinks and 30 min plus before drinks were delivered! Crazy right? The first visit I got the burger and fries and it was delicious. The second time I got a steak medium well and loaded baked potato and the potato was very dry (like an older potato that was on its way out) and although I loved the overall flavor of the steak I had to eat around the edges only and avoided the center because not only wasn't it medium w no pink it was red! Also it had gristle and fat. For $44 it was a waste of good meat and I'm not one to ask a cook to throw it back in the grill when they should know how to produce different levels of cooked steak. The ambiance is a chill dim lit vibe and easy for conversations so that was great! The bathrooms are clean and smell good. Great mirror lighting too. But the front layout is odd, the hostess stand is right there so everyone crams in front of door and there's no barrier to the first large table so you're like staring at the poor people eating at that first long table lol! I think they need to switch up the entry layout and put up a half wall or decorative situation to tuck away that table a bit too. Just my two cents. Overall, I'd go again but it would be really nice if management saw this and trained staff on how to greet table sooner, take drink orders, and deliver said drinks timely for a more pleasant dining experience. read more

I reviewed the menu before coming in and stuck with what I originally wanted: the Brussels sprouts to start and the chicken Waldorf salad as my entree. Wow! The Brussels sprouts were so good -- balsamic glaze, bacon and garlic all came together for an addicting appetizer. I probably could have eaten another portion by myself. For my entree, the salad was absolutely delicious and everything I love in a salad: fresh arugula tossed in a perfect amount of dressing and cheese with dried cranberry, red onion, radish and their rotisserie chicken. It was so exceptional that I came back soon after for a pick up order of the same salad while I was passing by. Everything here is fresh and very well done! Happy hour is a great opportunity as well. Stopped on our way to see a show at the Madison center. Let the waitress know that we are on a schedule. Atmosphere was nice and the place seemed well organized. We were there early so it wasn't crowded, but by the time we left it was. Food was excellent and the drinks were okay. My wife had the negroni and was very happy, I had an old fashioned and it was just average. My biggest issue is that the waitress was MIA more than she should have been knowing that we were on a schedule. She ended up recommending the key lime pie which was good, but by the time we got it we had to gulp and run. Sadly this took away from the whole experience and this might have been a five-star had that not happen. read more

The cocktails at The Macintosh were absolutely on point. Their margarita was delicious and refreshing, and the New York Sour was super unique -- hands down one of the best I've had. If you're coming here for drinks, it's a solid 5-star experience. I came in with a plan, but got tempted by the BBQ platter special -- and I love trying a variety of things. The plate included pulled pork, smoked pork sausage, and pork ribs. I swear the server mentioned brisket was part of it, but it ended up being all pork. Still good, but a little disappointing. For sides, I went with the biscuit and honey butter (amazing), bacon mac and cheese (added the bacon -- no regrets), and coleslaw. I also ordered a Caesar salad without realizing the platter already came with slaw. That said, the Caesar was actually fantastic -- pro tip: get the large and share it to make it worth the price. This review is a little tricky because I loved all the sides but was just okay on the mains. The bacon mac was creamy and rich, the biscuit with honey butter was insanely good, and the coleslaw was next-level. The meats weren't bad -- they just didn't wow me. And with all three options being pork, it felt a little repetitive. I wish I had asked if I could sub in chicken or brisket instead of sausage. Still giving this 4 stars -- mainly because I didn't clarify the order and the service and cocktails were great. As we entered it wasn't too busy and we were greeted right away and sat at a high top for 4. The staff was friendly. Opted for the Brussels sprouts and biscuits to share. Loved this place when it was previously Grassroots, the name has changed to Macintosh, but the food is still the strong staple it use to be. Reservations were a must on Saturday night and the joint was hopping. We were seated and a server explained the specials. We ordered the Halibut fish and chips, twisted noodle salad with steak, cowboy baby back ribs, onion rings and an order of dirty rice. The staff were on point with service and piping hot plates. The halibut was moist, lightly battered and tasty. The dirty orzo was as flavorful as ever and had a great flavor profile. Our twisted noodle salad was unique, great combinations not found in a normal salad and the steak was tender. It could of used a bit more dressing. Our ribs were lightly sauced, fall off the bone tender and a light bit of smoke. The rings were good with a crunch, but not over battered. If you are hankering for a good, solid meal without the pretentious environment, give Macintosh a call. The aura here is upbeat with good food. The portions are a bit light for the price, but it is always a solid for dinner. Good job Macintosh and we will be back. read more
