Stopped by this super-cute gastropub with a friend for a bite to eat, and what a pleasant surprise. It's tucked away in The Strip at Highland and 12th St., and has that cozy feel that makes you want to linger. Had the polenta fries and the mac and cheese, and both were delicious. Capped it off with a slice of the key lime pie for dessert. Yum. Service was excellent. Christy (apologies if I'm misspelling her name) was so friendly and genuinely welcoming. Loved the overall decor. Beautiful photography on the walls, and the fact that the space is woman-owned is a big plus in my book. There's also a charming little patio out back. Plenty of parking right outside, which is always appreciated. I think diners looking for a safe, basic gastropub might find Original Gravity to be adequate. While it may not sport any memorable signature dishes, or have an iota of atmosphere, I have to hand it to them for quality ingredients and stellar service. They have the most amazing Parmesan Fries I've tried in quite some time, and I think the steak frites will make a decent meal. There are also quite a few sandwiches, and I had The Bee's Knees (chicken, citrus honey, maple butter). A bit stickier and sweeter than I anticipated, and probably something one should relegate to brunch, but I appreciate the chicken cutlet itself. I don't think anything on this menu is really out of this world, but you'll find something that works. The cocktails are not very enticing. I had a Pear Cucumber Martini and I thought I was simply served a double of cucumber vodka. Overall, I don't hate it, but there's not much of a return factor either. read more

Our bar man was very lovely. We asked about the beer selection and got recommended ones that we enjoyed. The food is not bad. Bees knees is soaked in butter/honey sauce which I personally not a big fan of that but the chicken is fried to very crispy and it is seasoned very well. Mussels are not the freshest so all of them is very small and chewy but the butter wine sauce is lovely with the bread that come with it. Finally made it to Original Gravity a few weeks ago and loved it! I saw their menu ages ago and wanted to try the Bee's Knees sandwich and Mac Daddy mac & cheese. Great vibe inside. Service was great, I can't remember her name but she treated us well and made several recommendations for our table and they were all a smashing hit! Celebrated a birthday on Wednesday 9/17 after work during happy hour! Joined late after most of the party was already settled in, but we were seated at the large high table. Happy hour deals from an Instagram ad: Tuesday-Saturday from 3-6PM and all day Sunday for unbeatable deals: + $10 Polenta Fries, Egg Rolls & Roasted Garlic Hummus, $6 OG House Margaritas, Sangria & Well Cocktails, $1 Off All Local Drafts & Wine on Tap Ordered a margarita that was sweet but not strong, overall satisfying. I tried the polenta fries and roasted garlic hummus ordered for the table, and I was not impressed with either. Honestly, I didn't really like either. I've never had polenta fries before, but I later learned that they're made with cornmeal, which explains why they tasted like potato and flour. I found the toppings of pickled red onions and jalapenos to be strange. I usually enjoy most hummus, including roasted garlic hummus, but this one was too sour, as in too garlicky and lemony. At the end of the dinner, our server brought out a cheesecake for our beloved birthday girl! Not sure if this was complimentary for birthdays, as I wasn't the one who asked for it or potentially paid for it. Patrick was amazing, very friendly and detail oriented when it came to recommendations in the menu. Being that it was my first time it made it easier to choose something from the menu. To the cook making the food good job on the fried because I normally stay away from fries but they were so good that I finished the whole thing ‍ the drinks were amazing, I think it was the white sangria my favorite. The margaritas weren't to bad either the OG margarita wasn't so strong perfectly balanced with the alcohol. Definitely loved that they have a a cute back door patio, not overly crowded comfortable sitting. Perfect to do some remote work if you work work from home...oh and they got fast WiFi. Came with friends after work for a drink and some food. I got the mushroom po' boy and the French 75. The drink was very well mixed and got a nice buzz going for me to enjoy a deep fried mushroom and some sweet potato fries. I feel like since it was a po' boy it should've been on a french loaf, but the sandwhich was still good. The mushroom was super crunch but also super juicy on the inside. The bread was still good despite making this sandwhich a burger rather than a po' boy. I'm interested in coming again to see what their happy hour specials are. read more

Food was amazing and from what we saw, there was one server handling every table. Apparently he was still fairly new there, but he was killing it! Friendly, personable, and efficiently. You rock Patrick! My wife got the grilled caprese sandwich and loved it, and she normally doesn't even like tomatoes! I got the Hot AF burger and it was one of the tastiest burgers I've had in a good while. It was cooked perfectly, the blue cheese added a nice, funky, richness and the sauce added a hell of a heat that was nothing short of heavenly. The burger was a bit of a messy eat, but that's not going to stop me from ordering it again in a heartbeat. On our way back from Sedona to Phoenix for our flight back home, My husband asked for me to find a good burger with draft beers on tap for late lunch. After narrowing it down to 3, we ultimately chose Original Gravity. The place seems to have a good vibe. Probably better for late night with box table games and cards to keep busy while having a few. Our server was super nice and took our orders. I had the carnitas, my husband and daughter had the regular cheeseburgers with fries, and son had the large pretzel sticks. The burgers were huge. Neither of them could finish them. My son enjoyed the pretzels, and my carnitas were ok. Nothing over the top great. My husband thought the burgers were overly sauced and we're drippy/messy. I don't want to give a negative review. I just think things could have been better executed. Being that we were passing through to go to the airport, I don't think I would come back. If we happen to for some reason, I would try the other 2 places I bookmarked. In all honesty, we have only had 1 GREAT meal in Arizona over the 3 trips we have been here. What a great little space. My goodness. It's been here since 2017 I think is what the bartender said. A hidden gem I would say. Reasonable prices. Super nice staff. Super efficient. The pork belly was delicious but wasn't what I had in mind when I read pork belly. This was more like thick cut bacon and trust me, I'm not mad at this. Would recommend this to anyone! We tried out Original Gravity for an early Friday night dinner and were surprised the restaurant wasn't packed! It's a spacious neighborhood joint with a small outdoor patio space and a large bar. We ordered the polenta fries to start and were pleasantly surprised. While the texture is a bit grainy, the seasoning and sauce add a punch of flavor. For mains, we ordered the vegetarian tacos and the Beef on Weck. The veggie tacos were on the smaller end but had a nice balance of flavor. The Beef on Weck was well seasoned and tasted great. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, however, given the number of diners and size of the space she would have benefited from some help. We'd definitely check this place out again. read more

Stopped into this place on a whim and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's not an overly large space but it's comfortable and clean and everything you'd expect in a pub with a scratch kitchen. When asked if we had reservations I was nervous (we didn't have reservations) but we found a place at the bar without an issue and there appeared to be one or two tables available. The folks working were very friendly, only caught the name of Mike or Michael behind the bar and he was very conversational and attentive while we sat at the bar. Great beer selection on tap. I had the two darker beers on tap and they were great. They have monitors with the beer selection that's tied into Untappd. The menu has a good variety. I opted for the Beef on Weck and talked to the bartender before ordering, since I'm originally from Upstate New York. The horseradish isn't as hot as you'd get in Buffalo, N.Y. but the roll was right where it was suppose to be and the entire dish was very good. The pork belly appetizer was also excellent. I love a good scratch kitchen restaurant, but I wasn't impressed with Original Gravity. I came here with a group of 5. We shared a few appetizers and my bf and I split 2 burgers together. -Polenta Fries: It had a gritty texture on the inside. It tastes better with all the fixings like cotija cheese, jalapeños, and pickled red onions. But overall, I thought it was alright. -IPA Glazed Pork Belly: This sounded so unique but it was just pork belly smothered in a sweet sauce. It wasn't anything to write home about. -Hot AF Burger: This was a beef brisket patty with pork belly, onions, bleu cheese, and all the veggie fixings. It was supposed to be spicy but it didn't taste spicy at all. This was pretty good, but not amazing. -Mushroom Po'Boy: This was under seasoned. The fried portobello was okay. I feel like it could have tasted better if there was cheese or something. Very meh. -Fries: I tried both the sweet potato and regular fries. They were good! Our server was nice and attentive. This is a bit of a late entry as my wife and I went here for Valentine's Day lunch 2025 because I wanted to try their Beef on Weck. During my career, I traveled all over the country and was fortunate enough to try a lot of different local foods. One of my favorites was beef on weck from Western New York. I've only been able to find it at three locations around the Phoenix area this being one of them. Original Gravity gives a clean, modern vibe. It's in a crowded business/retail building with limited parking and seems to be more of a locals place. Since we were here for lunch on Valentine's Day, the place was almost empty before the crowds arrived. Bartender was very helpful describing their eclectic menu and wide craft beer selection. The beef on weck was very good and took me back to my travel days. The kemmelweck bun was wonderful, the beef was tender, juicy and very tasty, the onions were nicely prepared, the horseradish sauce had good flavor and heat, and the au juis was very good! The onion rings I ordered with the sandwich had a nice golden, crunchy coating, sweet, tender onion inside, and a bite did not pull the entire ring out of the coating. My only complaint is the pricing. The other two places in the valley that offered Beef on weck are priced about 1/3 lower than here. My guess is because it's in Phoenix proper in what appears to be a younger up-and-coming area things just cost more. My wife and I would definitely come back here and recommend Original Gravity. read more

Walked in and was assaulted by too load music. I like to talk to my date not yell at her. The service was great, the beer fantastic. Egg rolls, meh. Hummus came in a great portion with plenty of pita, great ratio, not many times you finish the hummus the same time as the pita. I had a small over cooked piece of meat on top of a snowstorm of parmesan with fries underneath. Once I exhumed the fries, they were crispy and flavorful. My Wife had the carnitas tacos and said they were really good. With only 2 things on happy hour menu, we probably won't be back. But you should definitely go in and have a local beer. read more

I had such a great lunch today at Original Gravity @ogphx in Phoenix, where I met @redheaded_foodie_in_az for the first time in person! She recommended the spot, and I am so glad that she did! I peeked at the menu on @yelp @yelpphoenix and already had my heart set on The Bee's Knees Sandwich. I got a mix of OG and Sweet Potato Fries as my side and requested some ranch (it was the good kind). These fries were amazing. I'm happy with my sandwich choice. It looks like a very simple sandwich, but the fried chicken breast is so tender and juicy inside that it goes perfectly with the crunch of the fried batter and the sweet citrusy warmed honey dripping off the bun. It was so warm today and we both ordered Coca-Cola that came in a fancy glass with the good kind of ice. We sat and chatted for over a few hours, and the service kept coming. We felt very comfortable and welcome. The is plenty of table and booth seating inside, as well as a shaded patio at the front of the restaurant. This is a woman-owned business! read more

My husband and I do date nights on Friday's and are trying to venture out of our comfort zone. A quick Yelp search brought us to OG. Parking was tight in this small strip mall at 5:30. That's a very good sign. Walk in and are immediately greeted. We sat in one of the two unoccupied tables. A very attentive man brought menus, bottled water, cocktail plates and took our drink order. Loads of craft beer selections, in order to view you must scan a code. He opted for soda, I a white sangria. Drinks brought right away. Sangria only had one orange slice and really tasted like a cocktail, not like any sangria I'd had before and it was very strong. Food orders taken. One Bee's Knees and one Hot AF. Vibe is for a younger, casual crowd. Unisex restrooms. Food took about 15 minutes. At first glance I thought our sandwiches were over cooked. Dark coating on chicken, buns slightly charred with glossy tops. First bite told me otherwise. That maple butter on the chicken made this sandwich, I wish it would have had a little more. Didn't really get the hot citrus that was in the description. Fries hot sprinkled with pepper served with a small cup of chili dipping sauce. My husband's Hot AF spicy with awesome homemade pickles. He liked his sandwich. He opted for a small spring mix salad. Baby tomatoes not very fresh with two cucumber slices. He did not like the dressing. A very earthy pesto tasting blend. The last time I came in, I was scoffed at by the barkeep for ordering a vodka tonic. Huh?! Me: "Could I have a vodka tonic with lime please?" Barkeep: "Pfft..." Cue judgmental glance from the barkeep, and thus commenced awkward silence, and a deep sense that my drink choices were unwelcome in the establishment. Major buzzkill, before even I had a buzz. Last minute changes to our itinerary brought us here for the 49ers game and we definitely don't have any regrets. There was no way of getting a seat at the bar or a table anywhere near our hotel, so we yelped and ventured out on a 10-minute drive and ended up at Original Gravity. The food, drinks and service were good. Best part? We had first class seats to the game. We came early at 6pm on a Saturday night, so it was a little slow, but shortly after we settled in, it got busy. Michael was our server, and he was great; super attentive and friendly. Food/drinks were good, and you get some bang for your buck here; everything you see in my photos with tip was $140. Portions are big so we took half of it to-go. They serve beer here and have a full bar. We Ubered so parking wasn't a problem but when I looked around, appeared to have lots of street parking. Would definitely go back. read more

We stopped in for our first time today on a rainy Sunday afternoon, about 4pm. I was hoping they'd have some afternoon NFL football games on, and they were showing games on both TVs! Great music and patio doors were open- great ambiance! We were promptly greeted with ice water and menus, and our waitress (also the bartender) was delightful! We ordered the soft pretzel appetizer with warm cheese, and would highly recommend. I ordered the hot AF chicken sandwich- the perfect spice level and served with fries (I chose sweet potato). The only good thing about our meal was the fries and ranch. Even the grilled cheese is just regular bread and American cheese for $15. The actual space was lively and fun, with cool art installations on the walls. The drinks (the red Sangria and the Spicy Rita) were wonderful and not watered down. I especially appreciated how they froze the stainless steel martini glass so that the drink remained cold throughout the night. The service was fine for a place like this. After we were seated and given water, the menus, food and touch ups came from the Manager on Duty. While he was personable, he didn't wipe down the tables, offer more water or bring things over like extra napkins unless specifically requested. Now for the food, which was... lacking. The polenta fries came out crispy, but very cold in the middle. I thought the dressings that came on it (the roasted corn, chipotle aioli, cotija cheese, etc) were superfluous, but eating it, they turned out to be necessary to add flavor to an otherwise bland dish. The Bee's Knees was practically SOAKED in honey. Though the sandwich was wet and juicy, the chicken itself was sparse - just one chicken breast, which was covered by the very large bun. The parm fries were a big disappointment. Rather than toss the fries in a mixture of cheese and oil for full coverage, the fries were plopped on the plate and everything was spread on top, to the point of nearly covering the sandwich. The mushroom "po'boy" (as it was made on a bun instead of a French bread roll), was dry - and that was with the roasted garlic aioli included. Overall, if you're going to come to Original Gravity, come for the atmosphere and bring friends. Be sure to eat beforehand. read more

I had the one of the best prime rib sandwiches of my life here. They call it Beef on Weck and it was absolutely delicious! Prime rib can sometimes be too fatty for me but the cut of prime rib they used was trimmed & seasoned perfectly. And they offer you the option to do a half & half of regular fries & sweet potato fries that were crisped perfectly! And great service all around. Came here for drinks and dinner a few days ago - great vibes, there is an awesome patio with greenery that blocks off the view of the street (though we did not partake due to the current heat). Drink selection was great - some fun cans and drafts that aren't often seen. For food, I got the bee's knees. Loved the concept, but wish there was more heat in the hot honey and less sweet (I think there was too much maple butter). The sweet potato fries were incredible, as all sweet potato fries are. My partner got the steak frites - seemed a bit overpriced for the amount/quality of steak, though the meal was still filling given the mountain of fries. Loved the pieces of garlic confit though. This was the most disgusting food I have ever been served. The steak was freezer burned. The fries where clearly cooked in cold oil. The chicken sandwich was burned and raw all at the same time, don't know how they managed that. The burgers were the only thing appropriate for human consumption. Everything was flavorless. Out of the 7 plates we ordered none of it was edible. We left everything on the table. The service was also very slow. There was a total of 8 people in the building including my party.
